and yo thanks for filming yourself when you were in doubt, in pain and vulnerable. Youre showing the REALITY of doing these intense adventures and as much as we are stoked to see the epic shots, seeing the struggle is one of the most human parts about these videos. Its always raw 100% on this channel and thats why I love it so much. Seeing you push through your own doubt is inspiring af and I think folks who are able to do that are the most noble among us.

I've now watched all three videos, as Justin and Kane made ones too. It's been amazing seeing it from the three different perspectives! I really enjoyed all of them but this definitely the most, because Marty was really open about what a challenge it was which is def closer to what I can realte to, so it was great to go on this journey with him. It was also great seeing him have a bit of a laugh with the others! I loved those moments!

Marty - I feel your pain - and your gain. In the wayback, I did 3 weeks snow camping and winter ski backpacking in Yellowstone with NOLS. It was fabulous in many ways, but I did promise myself that the next vacation would be on a beach with someone handing me umbrella drinks.

First video I watch on your channel, and it was a great watch. Even though I had watched Justins video first (how I found your channel) you brought a different perspective that had me watch the whole trip again without ever getting bored. Anyways, I’m an owner of two Nortent hot tents, so I’m off to watch another few of your videos. Take care!

Great ski touring. I spent many years in the Rockies and at 45:45 there is an awesome view of Castle Mt. I climbed (rock climbing) 4 routes on that mountain including a new route in the 70ies (see Canadian Alpine Journal) with the late J.P. Cadot. I did some multi day ski touring with temperature as low as -40C. At that point it is survival. Great video.

    • @martymorissette
      @martymorissette  3 місяці тому

Dude no way! looking at caslte mt I was thinking that would be an insane climb! that sick you explored new routes in the 70s! you are an OG! Glad you liked my adventre my friend!

Wow! I loved that you were so honest. From what you said it was pretty obvious that the other boys were elite level, super fit, winter athletes. But you kept with them, even though you said ski touring wasn’t your usual game.
I was impressed; I know that there is no way that I could have handled 16 or 17 kilometres in a day, with steep climbs and trail breaking thrown in for good measure, even when I was a fit and strong young man.
I bet when you finished it must have felt like you were a member of a World Cup winning football team, or something like that! 😉👍

I am use to see Marty in full control , in his one nighter winter trip , or in his canoe trips where he runs throught roaring rapids his eyes closed, but never saw him with that much anxiety as I've seen in this trip . It was a very challenging trip with specific abilities . Marty has shown a great deal of humility and a hight degree of perseverence trought this trip . I guess a better preparation was needed for that kind of trip, like having his own equipment , and doing a few trip before, testing the gear and gaining endurance , and also train the specific muscles needed for skiing with a heavy pack . I have learn a lot from his experience . Hey Marty , this was one of your best videos showing how a human doing an extreme sport has to deal not only with his physical conditions but also with his mental state wich is probably the most underated aspect in any activities. I hope that you have learned a lot from this trip and that it will serve in the future for other challenges . Thanks for sharing the trip and your emotions , your a great guy !

It’s been a while since I hiked with Justin but he’s definitely one of my top favourite experienced ppl in the Rocky mountains. Justin was in the middle somewhat in awe of Kane but seemed in the middle of the pack. Yours was what I felt like if I went on the trip and really showed how hard of a hike it was almost behind the scenes.
      Kane: overview

Very much enjoyed, your content is amazing. whattaya mean you hope?! bruh... ok, I get that you're a smaller channel and maybe you feel that's insignificant in comparison to the even the average content creator or these hobo's getting millions of views with hypothetical 'survival camping' videos or 'camping 101' from these people trying to prepare themselves for a zombie apocalypse or whatifs. When it come down to just camping out and scenic, my man you are the best creator of the genre. You're a real one, and it shows. Like this vid got a little intense, hiking alone in that location is hardcore but in those conditions, so extreme and the struggle was too real. But you take us there, it's deep. I could turn this into a novel just blowing smoke up your butt, lol my bad. Good shiet just saying, I appreciate you bruv. Thanks for sharing.

Been thinking about a tarp for winter camps to lighten the load, have a 2.6kg hilleberg right now, still happy with the tarp decision?

yeah well this is more then a tarp considering you can actually be enclosed 360 and it has a zipper. But yeah.... you really don't need a floor in the winter time IMO

Really cool! How do you compare the level of difficulty/pleasure of camping in a hot tent versus light and mobile as you did in this video.
In other words, what type of adventure are you most likely to do again? I have a hot tent and I'm hesitant to equip myself for multi days long distance trip.

If I could only do 1 type of winter camping moving forward I would do the cold camping winter bakpacking style of camping.
Don't get me wrong I love hot tenting! On a trip where you don't move or don't move a lot It's far easier. In a trip where you are travelling long distances over lakes and flat land I think it's at leas the same amount of work because setting up camp and processing wood is hard work!
I would say that winter camping in hot tents is safer. Having the ability to produce this much heat is amazing. You don't overly have to think about moisture management. You can get away with a lot more.
And that's where I prefer the cold camping of winter camping. It's so technically intriguing and everyone is experimenting with different techniques and solving issues a little differently and it's really fun to learn and to dial in the processes of how you travel through the land while staying warm when you don't have any ability to produce hit with a fire.
Lately I did a lot of hot tenting, first because it was new to me... and the novelty was very nice. With the border being closed during covid I didn't have the opportunity to go to the Adirondacks or the whites and it's definitely my play ground for winter backpacking... But now that I came back from this trip, I am completely obsessed with it again. It was fun to camp with new guys that had different techniques and experiences to share.
I always say it, cold winter camping is an art!
