    Technically she was better than many of the actual finalists. Her facial expression is a tense, perhaps. I'm really surprised she wasn't chosen for the finals.

    For people wondering why she didn't get into the finals, I watched this about fifty times staring only at her feet. The best I can figure is that:
    -about 4 times she balances on the back edge of her box instead of completely over the box
    -she shuffles her feet when she should be balancing in a fifth a few times
    -even though she is doing 3-4 turns, when she lands it's not really in fifth the first time or the second time either.
    I think she is absolutely amazing!!! This is not me trying to nitpick a great performance these are just minor issues I noticed while watching it many times, that the judges could have held her back for.

      After her first Prix, I had my eyes glued to her feet the first few watches just to see if she was able to not fall out of her turns like her first Prix. While she made a few errors here and there. I thought her dancing was beautiful! I honestly don't understand the comments about her not "performing" I thought she did a much better job than a few of the female finalists. I haven't seen her contemporary, but I think she may have been just outside the top 20 and there were a lot of the finalists were from the U.S. I still don't get how or why she competes as Swiss... Unless she has duel-citizenship?
      Eh... There is always next year! I must admit it was really nice to see different variations done this year, the past few years have really lacked in that department.

      tavisha She has Swiss, British and Japanese nationality, she does not have American citizenship.She won't compete next year as she has signed a contract with Birmingham Royal Ballet.

      megamurf0 I agree. I love her, but in this variation something with her feet was distracting me. It's like the shoes are not giving her foot justice. Something strange, but it seems she's never over the box (and she can, if you watch her earlier videos).

      @Althea-42 8 років тому +1

      Okay, I am not the most experienced with ballet, I'm trying to get into it. What does it mean when you say edge of her box or over the box? I'm not that experienced sorry. :)

    • @Peachy82
      @Peachy82 8 років тому +2

      She's not really on her point toe, she's not on the box of the pointe on her point shoes, not pulling out her feet arch. Not completing the "going on pointe" movement.

  • @irene2231
    @irene2231 9 років тому +177

    Her turns are always clean and fluid (even the grand pirouettes attitude, that are really tricky!) although she doesn't land perfectly in 5th sometimes, and her arabesques are just a dream. But I think in this particular performance she didn't "glow", I don't know... she looks tense, not a happy girl at her wedding day! That may be one of the reasons why she didn't make it to the finals... anyway, nervous days happen to anyone, and she still remains a good talented dancer.

    After a while competitions are no longer "fun" and because they are expected of aspiring dancers can really wear on a dancer. There comes a time when a dancer needs to stop competing and do a company. She's certainly good enough and talented enough to do that. You're beautiful Miko. Don't let anyone tell you you're not.

    Miko is clearly an amazing dancer, and she has great technique, but something is missing. I don't talk about her feet (if you compare them to other performances) that were close to horrible. She didn't balance well in the fifth position, and several times she balanced at the end of the box. She can do it better. Her expression is something she clearly has to work on, because she didn't look like a girl on her wedding day. This variation is very easy for her (she has mastered a very well Esmeralda and I love her Black Swan!). Besides the 3-4 turns this is actually nothing for her, compared to other performances. But everyone has those days where nothing goes right, so it's ok, she is not perfect either.

    From the comments, I seen quite a few saying that her facial expression is tense. Miko's expression is definitely different from her other performance (the smile) but instead of seeing her having a tense expression, to me, she looked mature here for some reason. Techincally and presentation wise, perfect! Everything is in control. I really wonder why she didn't make it to the finals....

    1- Just realized Miko is under the country of Suisse/Switzerland as a competitor.
    2- Reading comments about how she doesn't have the ideal/perfect ballet feet, leg lines, and/or other physical features which I can kinda see why people say that and sort of agree about certain things. For instance @Avalonmorley pointed things I agree on especially how she works with what she has.
    3-I haven't watched all of the dancers performances yet but I do agree with @megamurf0 comment that I did catch her a few times of how she wasn't on her box completely at least once during the preformance.
    4-Though perhaps this wasn't her best I have to say I am one of many who envy her arabesque and pirouettes. I guess as people have mention her nerves got the best of her this time.

    オーストラリアのバレエ学校は厳格なクラシックであまり上半身をそったり、音楽を止めるほどのバランスや回転などもするようなこともなく忠実にクラシックの基礎を叩き込むのでコンサートやコンクールだと地味に見えることもあるのが惜しい
    ドキュメンタリーでオーストラリアのバレエ学校でもかなり混血ということでいじめられたそうなのでそれ故に真面目に必死に学んでいたからこそ
    今の活躍があると思います。素晴らしいです。

    • @jewelmarkess
      @jewelmarkess 4 роки тому +4

      I think people fell in love with her by watching YT videos. Not only there are many better dancers, there are girls in professional ballet academies who's never done any competitions because instead of spending time perfecting variations, they worked on their technique in class, only participated in school performances and affiliated theater performances, and then auditioned for theaters. Would Miko Fogarty really stand out in a Vaganova academy (or another world's top professional academy) class? Then, she quit ballet after a year in corps.

    Well, the specifity of the Prix de Lausanne is that they judge the full week not only the stage performance. They judge the way young dancers respond to teacher corrections, how they improve throw the week and their potenital of improvement. Probably that other than Miko were better in those aspects.

    I love Miko's musicality. I agree this performance doesn't "glow" with her usual lithe grace, and feels a bit stiff. Still it's wonderful to see her legs and feet getting stronger and stronger over the years. By the way, Margot Fonteyn wasn't up cleanly on her toe box either, and she was magic. I certainly admire precise technical skill, but I wouldn't travel across the country to see it. I would absolutely travel to see Miko.

    • @user-lz9vg9xz8y
      @user-lz9vg9xz8y 7 років тому

      Musicality does not just involve being on the timing all the time- musicality is the natural ability of the dancer to play around with the timing of the piece and make it their own.

    I've always had this fascination with girls who achieve things that require a certain time frame. Like say Gabby Douglass wins Gold in Artistic Gymnastics, or Miko becoming the Principal dancer in a prestigious company. I know people always say, "don't let anyone tell you there's a time limit, or it's too late" but lets face it, the window of time to get as good as she is in time to be a Prima Ballerina is unbelievably small. It's like wake up and eat before the bus leaves. I had a hard time with that to the point that if it happened it was by random chance. But someone like Miko can become a great Ballerina an someone good enough to star in productions by the time she's 18 or whatever. It's really amazing. I guess maybe the fact that there's no other way to do it probably plays a big part. I mean if you want something badly enough and there's really no way to get it but do a lot of different things, then i guess there's no other choice. But she would have to pick the right thing obviously very young. I mean some people don't ever figure out what they like to do, or are good at ever. And then beyond knowing what she wants and having the motivation to do it, there's still a lot of other things that have to fall into place as well. I just can't even imagine. I would say choosing the right thing would be absolutely essential. That kind of goes against the common opinion that anyone who is really good, and really young was just forced to do it. I know people talk about how in China the gymnasts are forced in, but there's still only certain kids who would actually bloom in that situation. But I guess the choice isn't really there for them, but they can choose to give it their all. Like choose your own attitude about your situation, like the Victor Frankl guy talks about in his book. I would say there's things that people hide depending on which country they come from that makes it hard to tell. For example, an American may never admit that they were forced into something without any choice in the matter. Some may, but probably not the very top. Are they just aligning with the right situations to get them where they need to be? It's very hard to figure out for me. Would it be fair to say that to the degree to which you admit your own control over a situation is the degree to which you can control it. I mean is someone from American just denying they were forced in the name of the country, or do they now deep down, that to give up responsibility for their own course in life, is to give up control over their own course in life, and that's why they adamantly refuse to admit that, an it has nothing to do with the country. You can choose your own attitude in any given situation, "the last of all human freedoms" as Frankl describes. So if people are saying it's so bad to be in China where you are forced into this gymnastics, and you're thinking "actually it's great, and i'm in complete control of my destiny" then to the degree to which you can accept that responsibility is the degree to which you actually are in control. I would say belief comes into it too.

      No hablo ballet. What does it mean she's barely in her box? I've seen several videos of her performances. This is a good performance, but something seems a little off here though compared to the rest; I think it's what you were referring to as far as her feet although I can't put it into words. Can you please explain the box thing with her pointe shoes?

    • @austinacmes
      @austinacmes 6 років тому +1

      She probably has really bad feet that make her look like she is on her box. But I’m still confused. I have flat feet but with lots of pointe work, they gradually develop a small arch if not like the super arched feet. Hers are very confusing. Somehow she was able to do this difficult variation without being on her box.

      For a year in corps in Birmingham Royal Ballet. Then she quit ballet.

    I love the fluidity, like
    how she fills the moment and space.
    Truly graceful and royal.
    凛としててしなやかで気品に溢れてて、
    本物の貴族みたい。

    Miko Forgarty is a beautiful dancer, I don't think there is anything to criticize, and all of you that do criticize, I would like to see you go up there and do that dance.

      I still like how she dances, and "yours is not a valid argument" (as you say) since i don't care. Though my comment did sound kind of dumb (not at the moment) I'm sure she knows her flaws and that's what she's being pushed for right now and she doesn't need hundreds of people telling her in youtube comments. Just say something nice instead of pointing out her flaws because have you ever seen her reply to someone? No, she doesn't want to hear your suggestions.

    Miko is a wonderful dancer, however i feel as though she lacks enthusiasm and doesn't have that sparkle when dancing.

      beatrice lim really because in ballet it's great to have expression and it's almost like acting and it seems to be that the reason you think she lacks enthusiasm is because of the way the character is supposed to be in this variation.

    how come she had kept coming out to many competitions, Even though she was quiet famous already enough, plus she had great education?

    私とは比べ物にならないくらいすごく上手いんだけど、足の形がバレリーナになるには物足りないかな。
    X脚で指立ちになってない人が私的に好みです!ミコちゃんはどちからというと日本人系の足だと私は思う

    Her dancing is really stiff and not graceful so I think that's why she didn't make it.
    She is great but stiff the movements are very connected together
