It just depends on how much and realistically how fast you can get your money back. I've had to pay for security card to work in a poker room (expensive) but made it back quick. Same thing with uniforms, work supplies. Unfortunately though a lot of the mlm companies charge jizload for crap quality products to the employee/sales person/sap who then has to try to sell it for then more jizload.
Oh and the annual fee which only is to cover "membership" is ridiculous. I can pay for products cheaper, sell cheap, still make money without paying "membership". But what most popular mlms do provide is the advertising therefore easier to get customers....until you're competing with a huge amount of employees for the same customers for the same product....
I did hate it too when businesses I worked at- stores and restaurants- made me buy my damn uniforms, then return them. I understand why, but at the same time, if I'm making $6.25/hr, it does seem pretty miserly. (But I was probably the only one nerdy enough to return these items, too..)
I escaped a MLM just by being too lazy and antisocial, I watched a presentation and was like "that sounds like too much work and social interactions, nope, pass".
Yep llka sadly that's why most people earn nothing as they are too lazy and we don't get paid for doing nothing. ..hard work didn't scare me so I worked hard. Mortgage nearly paid, don't have to work now and travel the world ...I'm not too lazy to get the things I want but at least your honest x
Saffy Tata How tremendously condescending of you. I'm sure Ilka works hard at what she's passionate about. No shame in not putting effort towards selling worthless crap. You need to hop off your pedestal.
I don't mind the term girl-boss, I just hate when it's misused like for mlms. At one point it was actually empowering especially with the rise of female entrepreneurs.
My boss once went to a party for something like that. She's been in the jewelry business for 17 years and warned the friend who invited her that everyone going was aware of her experience. Her friend insisted, and when my boss saw earrings being sold for $30 that she knew cost less than $0.50 wholesale, she put down the catalog, and everyone noticed. No one bought anything.
Lol. Right! I'm a jeweler too. Though I don't own my own business yet. I can literally custom make anything I would want. But next time ask them to buy some of your pieces and they can sell it at their next party. 😂

@Chaos Burrito I'm from London originally. I've found Canadians and Americans use these familiars long before they are in a relationship/friendship/on terms with me where that would be a appropriate. It's like nails on chalkboard. I find strangers touching me less offensive and I don't particularly like that either.
I was 14, an MLM had set up a booth at the local mall probably thinking they could get more customers. I was in high school, and I drifted off away from my mother when she was shopping, I caught the attention of one of the sales people. She somehow coxed me, and proceeded to put make up all over my face, and at first I liked it. I asked how much it was she tried to sell me everything costing up wards to 140.00 dollars. Trying to find any excuse possible Im like "my mom wont buy this", "I cant afford it". She said and I quote "just take your moms master card and use it--its fine". I was told to legit steal! My heart sank, mom works hard every day at her job, and for this lady just to make a quick buck was manipulating a 14 year old, still boggles my mind to this day.

When a close family member passed away, I was telling one of my moms friend how sad I was and how isolated I feel. She asked me, “do you have friends you can talk to?” I said “yes, but I’m not feeling very social”... she said that I should talk to my friends.... and that they will talk to their friends... and that we can all start selling this shampoo that she sells and brings up every conversation. I thought “wow. You’re a shit person. Here I am at my lowest point, I thought you were here to console me and somehow it ended up with you trying to slang shampoo”. These MLM people are brainwashed and it’s disgusting
Yeah. I had family die and family in the hospital this past holiday season, and a "friend" tried to sell me life insurance through Primerica. Totally disgusting. No longer a friend.
Disgusting.. I wonder if they're really brainwashed or just shitty people. Or, maybe they got themselves in debt buying these products, that now they're so desperate and they would just do anything to sell some..
Eva B. I believe it’s the later. No one starts being an insensitive prick (though there are exemptions), I think the change is gradual, depending on their desperation and size of the whole they have dug themselves in.
When MLMs are specifically sold to men, they tend to talk about entrepreneurship and being lone wolf CEOs, even though the scam, I mean...business proposition....is exactly the same setup.
I actually got this same thing "proposed" to me once, but they were calling the head of the "company" a mentor. It had all the same MLM concepts though
yup, i've seen some ads for "start your own drop shipping business" -- not a scam in and of itself. but at least the way i understand it, the drop shipping market is pretty oversaturated now. if you wanted to get in on it you should have started like 2 or 3 years ago. but now there are people offering all these master classes that cost like $500 or something, and those opportunities do seem to be more directed at men for some reason.
My dad got involved in one of these and I remember being 9 years old and getting dragged to events at fancy hotels where some guy would show us his Mercedes Benz and spew out motivational speaking bullshit. I'm pretty even at 9 years old I realized that it was all too good to be true
@@chrismorris6865 yeah most definitely. But they are talking more abt how its weird that women can’t just be bosses, they have to be GIRL bosses. And girl is an infantilizing term to use for full grown women. It’s just a strange term to choose to use as it isn’t empowering, but rather quite the opposite.
I've been contacted my MLMs but I never realized they were real people, I thought they were bots lol. Always sending these super awkward texts with too many emojis. Wild.
i think they look so robotic not only because the messages themselves are written in a non-human way, but because those people also never chaintext, it's just one big wall of text, which bots usually do
The best one I've ever had was about 2 years after my son passed away. A girl from school messaged me saying she was sorry to hear I had lost my boy. Next message was "you seem like such a strong person with what you've had to go through, you would be a perfect fit for our community of tough boss babes making their lives better" the fucking audacity
Herbalife and Amway prey on Latinx people. Amway also has this weird habit of trying to get Hispanic recruits to convert from Catholicism to Pentecostal.
@@so7780 It's literally just an inclusive term, nothing disrespectful about it. I also know of plenty of hispanic people that do use it, so I'm not too sure what you're talking about.
@@glitter404 Inclusive perhaps but you gotta take the big picture in. The term latinx makes no sense within our gendered language and it just seems like americanization. @@ThatKillerQuote mhm. I know they mean well with it but it just makes more sense and is MORE inclusive if you use the regular latino or latina (latinos in plural) as it includes more peeps and isn't trying to americanize our culture more than it already currently is right here in the States.

@@saffymccabe7705 There are differences between a franchise and an MLM: -You need a business license to run a franchise. You do not need one to sell for an MLM. -With franchising, you are not the owner of the whole corporation, but you do own your own LLC. I used to work at Subway, and all Subways are franchised. Not once did my paychecks ever say Subway on them, they said my forner boss's (the franchise owner) company on them. My former boss does not own Subway, but he owns a small company that allows him to be able to own Subway locations. An MLM salesperson owns nothing except the products they bought from their upline. -There is no pressure to recruit or have a downline in franchising.
Mish Kish , "the Sub" is the perfect "dream job" for the guy who just finished his "business administration" degree. He could have just looked for it after high school.
Calling themselves “entrepreneurs” literally destroys me to the core of my soul. They are sales agents. That’s all. Coming from someone who has built a brand from the ground up, it’s so fricken insulting to hear these clowns calling themselves entrepreneurs.
Sugarholic Sheep I can’t imagine anything worse. LOL I’d rather die than ever wear or sell such disgusting And garish Looking clothing. The people that wear them look like three-year-olds that got themselves dressed
Honestly!!! I hate when they say they own their own business... like no, no you don’t. Or “I’m my own boss” like no? You report to your upline aka your BOSS. Like I get it. The dream of being your own boss, working from home, making good money from your phone, owning a business, BUT this... this is not the way.
It's genius because the mlm don't have to pay any benefits to their sellers because they technically are not employees. Avoid all those pesky benefits like retirement and healthcare and have an army of unpaid employees to sell your overpriced products. Genius .
Someone tried to get me into an MLM once. Luckily I knew about MLMs and turned them down repeatedly. But the way they tried to sell this, is by saying that you basically get your own business where you sell stuff, and any retailer would have to buy their stuff from wholesale first as well, so it makes sense (not what I think, but how they explained it). Any additional fees are even less than most licenses and the likes you would have to get! (Again, their words, not mine) But you don't need to worry about branding, making designs/logo/housestyle, they'll even train you on how to sell your stuff, etc! If you start your own job, you would have to do all of that youself and pay for it yourself (I'll just keep repeating that these are not my words and I don't believe in this nonsense). So they sell it as an investment in your own company, which would be smaller than the investment you would actually have to pay if you started your own company. Of course, all of this is nonsense. If their product is that good and sells that well, it would just be in stores being sold by normally paid employees. Because you're not actually starting your own business. Which business starter has higher-ups to pay monthly fees to?! You're an unpaid employee, who somehow has to pay to be allowed to work. That's the reality. But they don't frame it like that. That's why no alarmbells go off for the people who fall for this. By the way, the person who tried to recrute me, later confessed to all their friends for having fallen for an MLM, having lost a lot of money due to unsold inventory, and she confessed all her beautiful stories were a lie, because she was so desperate to get out of debt. Which, of course, never happened, as she couldn't sell nor recruit enough. I did buy sime things off of her when she was still in the MLM, as I felt bad for her, and I actually happened to need the household products she sold. I still have some of them. They were actually good products. Just overpriced, which made them hard to sell. I know, I shouldn't have spent money on an MLM product. I was one of those suckers who just felt really bad for their friend. If this ever happens again, and they won't heed my warnings again, I'll just wait for the bubble to burst and then try to help them find an actual job instead. I think that would be a better help.
I owned a business. I had to pay to work. All the time. In fact. I had to pay out more and more the bigger we got. More legal fees. Contractors. Taxes. So. Not sure on the logic of this particular criticism. 🤑🤓☠️
I remember when I came out publicly as a trans dude, my cousin messaged me with all this support only to end it with a suggestion to start selling her MLM product because "i'm so brave and it shows that I can put myself out there and be a sales person". Like thanks I feel so loved
ANd it was probably for make up or some other feminine shit, too? LOL. While I'm at it, can I be your bridesmaid and go dress shopping?! And be your surrogate if you can't get pregnant???"
My sister is a single mom and has fallen victim to SEVERAL MLMs. SEVERAL!!! I didn't know what MLMs were at the time, but when she explained It Works, I immediately thought pyramid scheme

You are, and I cannot express this enough, NOT an entrepreneur if you work for an MLM. You don't own your own business. You are a salesperson or recruiter. I know so many people who fall for these scams and call themselves entrepreneurs and it just makes me sad for them because I've never actually seen it work out.
I could not agree more . My friend who has been an Arbonne consultant for 3 years calls her business an “international business “ . And keeps posting about the perks of running her own business . Like girl did you create the products and pay for packaging , warehouse fees , accountants ... etc .
Exactly, I tell people I sell Mary Kay, I don't have a business. I have permission to sell their stuff but mostly just buy my favorite stuff at a discount 💁
YES THIS. It is so offensive to people who actually did establish and do run their own business from start to finish. The main thing that gets me is that these MLM ladies never seem to understand the difference between being a predatory sales rep, and being the person who is actually taking ALL of the risk and putting everything on the line for their business. Yes, entrepreneurship has lots of rewards, but also lots of risk. If one of my customers has a problem with my product, I am the person responsible. I am the person who has to fix it. If I have problems with a supplier or something, yes, I can "blame" them but ultimately the buck stops here. I'm the person putting blood, sweat and tears into my company, I am the person driving everything, from strategy decisions to branding, messaging and sales to accounting, good business practices, CRM, supplier management, quality assurance, etc. etc. etc. I can outsource some of this work but the responsibility falls squarely on my shoulders. And when it works, it's AWESOME. But it's a FAR CRY from MLM sales rep recruitment. And it's so offensive when these MLM ladies compare the two like they're one and the same. Entrepreneurs do not call their businesses a "side hustle"
Some military bases had to ban MLM parties because of all the drama they were causing. The wives were basically outcasts if they wouldn't join, and it was causing a lot of tension. They're so cult like, creepy stuff.
Random Woman I wish they did this back then when my grandpa was still in the military. My grandma was one of the military spouses that ended up in an mlm (Avon) because of the fact they didn’t have a lot of money to spare (they had to live paycheck to paycheck especially when my grandpa was overseas). I guess what got her in was the fact that she was the main one raising my mom and two uncles, especially when my grandpa had to spend a year at a time in Japan and other nations.
Happened at my ex husbands base. Literally ALL his friends wives are hun bots and they were pissed, posting on Facebook trying to send their followers to complain. Kinda funny to be able to watch from a far now that I don't have to play nice.
Also from my experience in the Girl Scouts it’s teaching the girls how to handle money, budget, work ethic etc. That and it actually can go towards the troop (ie a trip to camp or a theme park or even getting a sash or vest for the underprivileged troop members). However this is just my own experience.

The amount of disabled girls and women I know who were roped into doing MLMs by their nuerotypical facebook "friends" makes me sick. it's unforgivable.
Yep. I dont know how the people on my friends list got pulled in- but theres one girl whos clearly been sucked into a few of them. I hate the terms “boss babe” and “girl boss”. If they’re so feminist and female empowering, why not just say boss? I don’t want to be a “girl” boss. I want to be a boss and be take seriously.
If they're so feminist and female empowering why don't they stop exploiting moms who are drawn in by the unrealistic prospect of working flexible hours from home, while looking after the kids and having a great network of supportive mom friends and using female empowerment as a guise.
Then don't be lazy and do what a man does, start your own business with your own money... but thats too much work for you so you become a girl boss babe kween that you can do with no work.
It especially bothers me when MLMs try to guilt moms with that “do you really want someone ELSE raising your children” line. Both of my parents were military, so I had an after-school nanny growing up. My mom was still the one who raised me!! (AND she was a huge role model for me bc she was an AF pilot and I thought she was such a badass lol.) At 26, I’m still close to my old nanny and consider her a surrogate aunt
This is what’s been nagging me the most. Advertising being home with their babies and guilting other moms who work. I know ultimately it was my decision to join an mlm. I’m the one to blame. I was 7-8 months postpartum when I joined. I was a full time nurse working nights. It started affecting me so much that I could not be home with my son. All the constant posts and stories just kept making it worse. Specially my own coach who was a “ retired” nurse. Eventually my husband and I decided I went part time and I’ve slowly opened up my eyes to their lies. Specially seeing that they have to be on their phones 24/7. How in the world are you able to tend to your children when you got to “hustle” all day? I never ever cold messaged anyone. That just put me off from the get go. The last call I ever attended was a “top coach” that said you have to message 60 people everyday. She also swore so much that a lot of people starting logging off. Most of those moms that have their kids around also listening to what’s being said.
My whole life would be complete different if my mom didn’t work. She also inspired me to be independent and not rely on husband’s money. What I always remember when she said “I dont need my husbands’s permission to buy stuff” I had nanny too but doesn’t mean my mom is less of a mother than any other mom who stays at home.
Don't know, both of my parents were working when I grew up and it was more or less my Gran who raised me. So for me my Gran was my mother figure more than my mother ever was or will be (my father died when I was 12). I have more of a friendship or sisterly relationship with my mom. It's okay for me though. I don't fault her or anything. Most families have to have two working parents to make ends meet nowadays. It was a big problem for my mom and there was s time when she tried to force the issue. Didn't work. She doesn't get to dictate the way I see her or my Gran just because she birthed me. She just wasn't there enough to look at her as a mother. It took a long time for her to come to terms with that. But that is the risk if you decide to have children when both parents have to work 🤷♀️ That doesn't make it okay to guilt trip moms, however. The world is not kind to parents or their children as a whole. It's not their fault, it's just life.
Stay at home moms are extremely rare, almost nonexistent, where I live. Sending your kids to daycare is the norm. And honestly, part of me feels like that's BETTER for the child. I get that you want to be with your kids, however in daycare you not only learn a bunch of stuff but you also get socialized from an early age! It's basically like a playful pre-preschool. Though I also see some Americans even complaining about schools and opting to homeschool their kids instead...... No idea how tf that works, and it seems like it would negatively impact the child's social development.
@@KreeZafi But it's hard when you are in the US that doesn't has maternity leave. I study psychology and my professors said they wouldn't recommend mothers to put their child into a childcare facility before the age of one. I'm German and we have maternity leave (up to three years) and you can't put your child into Kindergarten before the age of one. So it all works out quite easily here.

12:09 This reminded me of a party I went to. A friend (now ex-friend) was getting married and I was invited to her bachelorette party. The night before the party she texted us and told us to bring cash, and didn’t tell us anything else. Just bring cash. We all thought she was hiring a stripper or that we were going to a strip club or night club, so we all brought enough for tips and maybe a cover charge and drinks if we were going out. I was working a minimum wage job at the time, so I had to scrape together enough at the last minute and pulled out $18 from my bank account the day of the party. When we got there, there was a sales woman from Slumber Party, which is an adult toys and novelties MLM. She went through her pitch and we all politely considered things, but ultimately none of us were going to buy because we all had $50 or less on us and a lot of the stuff was hundreds of dollars. I guess at the time Slumber Party had an offer for brides where they could throw a Slumber Party sales pitch as their bachelorette party and get a cut of the sales person’s commission. It’s a win-win for the sales person and the bride, but a lose-lose for all of us. When we all wanted to take the sales lady’s card and not buy anything that night, the bride lost her shit. If nobody bought anything during the party, the bride would lose out on her cut of the commission. She threatened to kick us all out of her wedding if we left without buying anything, including her bridesmaids. She gaslit everyone like it was Victorian London, started a sobbing tantrum, stomped up to her bedroom and slammed her door like a toddler. Her mother then turned on us and screamed at us for making the bride cry during her own bachelorette party. The sales lady looked like she wanted to die where she stood, and we all felt something similar. To keep the peace we all bought something, but to this day I wish I had the self-esteem to tell that bitch to go fuck herself and her wedding. I bought the cheapest thing which was a glow-in-the-dark condom. The sales lady said it was $6 but with taxes and fees came out to $20, so I had to bum a couple of bucks off one of my friends for a goddamn condom. But I was poor and wanted free wedding food lol 😂 but that party was the moment our friendship really ended. Edited for clarity.
Omg I'm so sorry. I totally understand why you caved and bought something but I feel for you and I would have wanted to end that friendship immediately at this point in my life
A crush from HS called me about a year after we graduated. Told me he wanted to meet up with him and catch up. I legit was so stoked. Turns out it was a WorldVentures meeting. So that was cool.
that happened to me, not with an ex but with a young person from my old church that I genuinely cared about. I spent my money and went out of my way to go meet him on my day off without a car, only for him to pitch me sales about an energy company! I was so pissed. Didn't even bother grabbing lunch with him.
I had someone come to my house to drop off a “diffuser” that I “won” at a Bridal Fair. I gave her back her “diffuser I won.” Watch out for this crap.
Same happened to me but not with my crush but school classmate and then she gave me long ass speech about it. Thank god I don't have that much money spend on stupid stuff
one thing i've always found extremely suspicious about MLM's (i'm older so i'm talking even pre-internet) is the strange religious undertones that so many of them seem to have. i'm not an atheist but still i fail to see what jesus has to do with making money. honestly or otherwise.
They are very cultish. Many of them have a leader who is worshipped in a Christ-like fashion. My in laws were deep into Amway. When they got "deprogrammed" they admitted that they'd lost about 45,000 in 3 years. They're garage was full of products. I don't think they ever sold any, but by buying them, they advanced their position in the organization.
Because MLMs are cultish in nature, and people who are easily manipulated by religiosity are perfect targets for the religion angle if the other tactics dont work.
There is nothing more degrading than this term - Attempt to celebrate being a boss while also qualifying that you beat the odds and accomplished something while also being a "girl" "babe" "mom" . Take a look at real female executives, they never, EVER, would degrade themselves by calling them self or someone else a "bossbabe"
As a military spouse, I can see so clearly how enticing it’s meant to be towards us. “Make friends for life.” Or “you’ll find your best friends!” Moving state to state is really lonely. But thankfully it’s not lonely enough for me to join a MLM lol.
And the truth is, those who join only have friends for as long as they're active consultants. To my eternal chagrin, I represented an MLM for five years and none of my "friends" kept in touch when I left. These are people I saw weekly for YEARS. Some of that is probably down to circumstances changing since strong friendships tend to be with people who share our core values and beliefs, and when you're in an MLM they hijack all of those and twist them to make the MLM the center of your life. Even though I know that, it's weird and sad to me that none of those friends ever texted me on her own, even for my birthday or something general like that. It's like I fell off the face of the planet when I quit. And that's what happens to most of us, I think. Now I have friends who care about people, not selling things.
I almost joined an MLM when I was really low on money and studying. I had ordered the starter pack and just talked about it to a friend with a stupid sell speech. That very night, I woke up feeling like a trapped animal, full anxiety attack, I deleted everything at 3 am and called my poor friend telling her: it's a scam, it's a scam, please forget everything I told you earlier. Gut feeling saved me on that one!
MLMs in the hispanic community is very prevalent. mostly with low income women. these companies know that our culture values spending time with family. so that when these women are with their families (which is very often) they just try to sell them products. for example, a few months ago there was a big family reunion type ordeal and a family member brought a bag of her products and tried selling all of them, while we were hanging out! most people didnt want them but they felt bad and ended up buying around $40 products each. not to mention my mom bought a $40 makeup remover that she hasn't used once.
babaykyu yes! When I was growing up in the 90s I lived in a huge Hispanic Community and almost every woman I knew except my own mother (who is Hispanic) was selling Mary Kay and Avon lol I never understood why or how at the time but after Herbalife came to our community I was like ohhhhh k
@@nicotinejeans9310 No, Avon is not legit. They were okay when they were only focused on sales. But that's all changed. New Reps have to purchase starter kits and Avon strongly urges all reps to consistently purchase demo products and bundles. Their emphasis is on recruiting, front loading and sales are a distant third.
Well maybe it used to be a quality product. I have two family members that sell it so I have received a heap as gifts as well buying some either from a feeling of obligation or early on I believed it was good. I'm slowly getting it out of my house as it is breaking. And even though it is technically under lifetime warranty, you have to pay to have it replaced. So I'm spending the money on cheaper better replacements. I get the feeling your comment was probably sarcastic but couldn't be sure.
Avon is the worst as a "work place" i know my mom did it for a year as a side job but she wasn't agressive enough to do it because she didn't wanted to bomb everybody with it so she quit. But what i really wanted to say is that it is a shitty job but some of the products are pretty good. I mean not for everybody. But for example my skin is very sensitive and the best product for it are avon products and it's the same with a lot of my family members who gave sensitive skin. So i know it's a shitty thing what they do with their employees but i still have to buy from them because their products are the only good products for me. And i am so sorry that this comment ended up being soo long
I remember the jewelry parties era! I still have a gold plated bangle from one. I have to be honest, it’s actually a quality piece and has lasted a veeeeery long time without any signs of wear and tear.
another group that MLM’s target are COLLEGE STUDENTS. I was recruited into one knowing that I was in desperate need for extra cash at that time, so I joined. Only to get into 20+ hours of training with NO pay. The first day I automatically felt it was a complete scam because it was so intense (they didn’t even provide us with meals) and stopped showing up before I even began selling the products. Never again. Save yourself the energy and time, look for an actually legit job that will guarantee you your time and investment!! I can’t believe companies like these are not illegal in the U.S. edit: the MLM I got recruited into was Vector Marketing 🤷🏻♀️
I once got a text from Vector Marketing trying to recruit me. I didn't know much about MLMs at the time, so the only reason I didn't want to look into it was because the rep told me that a former acquaintance (who I cut all ties with after he went to prison for sexual assault) had given them my number. I didn't want to work or associate with a sex offender, so I turned it down. If he hadn't gone to prison for that, I might've gotten suckered in...
I’m a new mom and my neighbor was so nice to me until I repeatedly declined her offer to join. She implied that I don’t care to make money for my son. She pretty much just shuns me now lmao oh well
yep thats a common tactic they aim for young mother to guilt trip into going into debt and making there kids life harder ill never forget reading a story of a hun bot infiltrating a support group for women whove had children die just to try selling shit to them while lying that they lost tons of kids hun bots are more evil then the worst drug dealers
My sister in law has just joined an mlm, and there’s no talking any sense to her. She’s so engrossed in the thought of earning thousands a week. Even her own mother is buying her products “supporting” her. She’s got a 1 year old, so she’s a prime example of the type of people they go for. It’s hard to watch her fall down this hole, I just hope she realises before she loses too much.
My mom has been in an MLM since the 90s and it's called Mary Kay!! She has risen, fallen and never gotten back up. At one point she was making $7,000 a month. But when the recession hit in 08 we lost the house, she lost all her "friends", clients, the car, EVERYTHING!! Sadly she still sells it and recruits women. We've tried telling her to stop and get a real job she's almost 70 and has nothing to show for her "hard work".
Ooh.. i remember my first full-time office job in my early 20s, and there was that nice young lady from another department always complementing my appearance, my outfits etc, I thought that was kind of her but in the end all she wanted was to bait me to Mary K
Same! They advertised it as a spa party but nothing was spa about it. It was just a I’ll do your make up and I hated how they did my make up too. They were just regular sales people not make up artists
@@Valeria-th3ms I worked with a MK woman who did the exact opposite - told me how tired I looked, said I probably needed to exfoliate, oh and btw try this stuff I sell that can help make you look less awful. LOL.
I had a hub tell me to “borrow money” once. I asked if I could borrow from her, if she was making $6,000 a month & then I would too she should be good for it & know I’d be good for it too. She called me “b@tch” & blocked me
Something that makes me even sadder for these people is that a lot of them have developed great sales and people skills-- if they were to put that much effort into starting their own business legitimately, or getting a commissioned-based job for a non-MLM, they could be making so much more and still get the benefits of flexible hours, working from home, etc.
Natalie Crowley i know some people leave their MLM to go into car sales or something like that. The point is that they have the skill now to succeed in sales and just need the foot traffic. MLM requires that you, a regular person with little influence, produce your own foot traffic but put that person in a place where they can focus on just their sales skills and they do decent. But anyone who is both good at sales AND good at marketing will make money anywhere no matter what it is.
Natalie Crowley I tell women who are thinking about an MLM or want to work from home, and have good skills and work ethic to go get a real estate license.
Yeah, the people who actually do decent in MLMs develop good skills, if they were applied to any other company, then they would actually make good money.
a friend of mine from high school just graduated college and now works for an MLM and i feel SO bad for her! she has a whole business degree from a great school and they sucked her in!
@@UdoADHD She wouldn't feel sad for her if she was. And I'm seeing your comments around saying positive shit about these scam artists. Clearly you work for one of them.
A. J. A lot of people are negative about these because they felt suckered into one in the past. If this is something her friend truly wants, no need to feel sorry for her. One man’s trash and another man’s treasure. As for me working “for one of them”, I’m not but I follow Dani Johnson and go to Dani Johnson business events and many people in the crowd do shakes or oils or something and make money. Can’t knock it.
I volunteer at a thrift store and we’ve been getting loads of Lula Roe that we can’t sell because it’s too ugly. They’re all brand new with tags but we just hand them off to places that give them to people that can’t afford clothes. We literally can’t sell them for a few dollars.
Many years ago this girl that I went to high school with sent out an invitation to everyone for a high school reunion/get together at her and her husband’s house. We thought heck why not so a bunch of my friends and I that never lost touch went and a few other girls from school also showed up. When we got there, there’s like 20 other people we do not know, some were as much as 30 years older than us so definitely not from high school. Turns out her and her husband sent out invitations to different groups under the guise of whatever they share in common (high school reunion, ex-coworkers and/or present coworkers getting together, etc) and they pretty much held us hostage to listen to their presentation for over 2 hours. The product? A $500-dollar landline phone that does video calls. A bunch of us were like uhh we all have iPhones and android phones why in the world would we want a landline version that has limited capabilities and we have to purchase several every month. I think all politeness went out the window. One of the girls I came with was the first to walk out without a word with me right at her heels and by the time we got to the curb (we street parked since the hosts lived in an apartment), there were 10-12 more people from the same party that exited with us. Long story short the girl created a post about us on Facebook but we didn’t even care because the people we care to be friends with we are still hanging out with anyway. They should call MLMs the relationship destroyer.
in the case of military spouses, starbucks has a program specifically for veterans and military spouses where it's easy for them to transfer stores. it's a stressful job but i couldn't deny the benefits were pretty sweet when i worked there
It wasnt a stressful job for me. It was actually one of my favorite and I had the best team of peers. And I worked in a downtown area where the line would be out the door for hours at a time...
This has to be the best MLM awareness video on UA-cam. She offers comedy while exposing the scam. These companies talk about female empowerment but it sounds more like female enslavement. So sad.
So is no one going to talk about Primerica? They're targeting the most vulnerable, 18 years olds fresh out of high school to sell life insurance policies. I have a friend that is already far into and basically opted out of going to UC Santa Barbara to further pursue this sham. They're all told education is a sham because of student debt and honestly the tipping point for me was when they spoke ill of teachers saying it was basically their fault they were being treated so badly.
Damn. There's another MLM called Vector Marketing that also targets college kids and kids who just graduated high school. They sell overpriced knifes to your friends and family.
I used to work for Vector & went to some cult meetings. They'd make us demonstrate & boast about how good the knives were & would read a script that manipulates older ppl into wanting to help out a poor college girl. Don't even wanna talk about the awkward phone calls
My baby was born 2 months early and her Nicu nurse tried to sell me into this company. She was such a sweet lady, and maybe a little naive. No thank you, but thank you for keeping my baby alive. 🤷🏼♀️
The thing that bothers me about MLM is that the exploit insecurities and good natured people. the claims about curing depression and anxieties also infuriate me. depression requires therapy and medication, not essential oils
Its true. I feel like a victime. Im too polite and often say yes to things im not really into just because im scared of how mad they get i reject them. Im glad i eventually got the confidence to leave and say im done with it all because i got so angry and tired of the lack of care they have for relationships and lives. Its so sad they make people who are good natured feel like they are the bad person for "not putting enough work in" or "thinking big enough". I never cared about the stupid car you win or the trips (even though you still are in debt from all you have to do to get no where). Arbonne is the company I was with. Their products arent bad but not worth calling up old acquaintances you never even spoke to, just to further ruin a relationship you never even got to start. Point, dont feel bad to say no if you dont feel right as soon as you hear something. Do something because YOU want to, not because you were pressured.
My friend tried to recruit me in an MLM and I was kinda disappointed. We haven't talked in so long and she just said she has a business venture. She wouldn't even tell what it was when I asked. But lucky me, I already knew because she had been trying to recruit my other friends before me. So I straight out told her, "Yeah, this is an MLM. I don't think I'm cut out for that. I don't like selling things. And I don't have the people skills to recruit others." But I kinda felt more disappointed because we are business graduates and we were told multiple times about these MLMs and their dangers. And yet here we are.
That’s the thing that annoys me the most. The first time someone tried to get me into network marketing I didn’t know what it was so I thought it was this amazing rare opportunity I was getting. I was a couple meetings and a couple of books in and I still didn’t get to know what the product was. I got out before I even figured what the product was that was being represented. It’s so shady that my “mentor” wouldn’t tell me what it was and said I needed to attend more meetings to find out.
It's sickening how they prey on vulnerable people. I was approached when I was also on my lowest point, the person you thought was a friend comes along saying they will listen to you, you feel a short relief for a while, "wow, there's someone by my side right now, maybe I'm not alone", and them they start talking about the MLM scheme. Such a betrayal. It really hurts when you're already depressed or traumatized.
May I request that this video be closed captioned? My mom is hard of hearing and she’s been the victim of many an MLM. I’d like to send her this video. Currently her “business” is press-on nails. Avon was the gateway drug...
So did I, except it's not just her video, I've been getting them everywhere, that and Trump ads- I'm dissapointed in UA-cam for letting those slip through-
I know! I had to change to UA-cam Premium because I was going insane with these ridiculous ads. I think that's UA-cam's plan, but I prefer to fall for it than to slowly lose my mind. I was legit getting angry with the audacity. PS: love your hobi profile picture 💜😂
I got a DM about joining an MLM and she was very sweet and said how her daughter was a dancer too and was getting her pointe shoes. I wished her daughter and her the best and then cited an article about the company getting sued for being a pyramid scheme. I never got a response
I work in a Starbucks in a mall, and right outside our corner in the food court, for a couple weeks a bunch of mlms set up stalls right outside and it was just absolutely fucking hellish. They weren't even done setting up when one of them came in and tried to recruit me (while I was working) to go try some skincare products. Obviously I'm on the clock so I can't be like "you're a scam, go away". Those two weeks I saw some serious Karen entitlement too. I watched a lady try to full on recruit one of our SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD baristas and I literally had to step in afterward and let her know it was a scam.
@@RalphMaver to my knowledge they just paid for the right to use the spots. It looked like a temporary setup, so when they left we weren't surprised (we were very relieved, though!)
I used to be in Amway years ago. At one of the conferences, this couple went up and were presented with an award for ranking up or something. They mentioned how they'd been so dedicated to the business for so long, that for their daughters Quinceañera (sweet 15), they made her get rid of ALL of her presents because they weren't "Amway" products, and that she cried while she was throwing everything away, but they still made her do it because they had to be 100% loyal to the company.....to this day I still feel sooo bad for that girl. I wonder if she ever forgave them?

the amount of "boss babes" popping up because of covid hurts my heart but is also SO DAMN ANNOYING! Really not interested in ur 30 day detox.... loved this video as usual!!
My husband passed away at a very young age 2 years ago and I'm a single mom of little kids. I didn't hear from or see many people to even offer condolences much less to offer any help. However, in the last year I have gotten quite a few of the "It's been a long time such we spoke but I was thinking of you, how are you?". At first I thought these women were actually reaching out so answered only to get hit with "I'm having a get together at my place with mini pedis and some refreshments, love it if you'd come. It's a chance to catch up and get pampered". At least I knew right away what it meant so would come right out and say that I'm not interested nor a supporter of MLMs so can't make it. They answer with fake shock and promises that I don't have to buy anything and they just want to see me again. I don't go, make an excuse my child is sick but would love to meet for a playdate or lunch sometime. Crickets! Never hear from these women again...until the next party. Do these people not realize how insensitive and disgusting their behaviour is?
I'm sorry for your loss & sorry you had to deal with insensitive b*****s. I don't think they're capable of the empathy to realize how assholian their behaviors are. It's all about $ & showing off to each other on Social Media.
I like being my own boss but I knit, crochet, sew, and spin my own yarn. I don’t have to push my stuff on other people. I just make stuff and if people want it they contact me. Done
That's really respectable.. also quite old school. But I'm guessing you are not trying to become an international brand so good on you :) A lot of business owners are not in it for the craft but for the money/power.
I did gymnastics as a kid and my coach was involved in an MLM. She would make us drink her MLM shakes and take vitamins etc. This way if we liked it we would convince our parents to purchase it from her for us. Pretty messed up now that I look back at it
my boyfriend got involved in an mlm before we started dating and i was suspicious immediately because he was super vague every time i asked about his “business.” finally, i did some research into the specific mlm he was in and research on cults and i helped him leave before he lost too much money. the people who recruited him were grown ass adults with their own kids and that’s how they met my boyfriend: through their children. they actively prey on their kid’s friends, young adults who are college age and don’t have ANY money. it’s fucked up. not to mention, this specific mlm is conservative and preaches christianity. anyway, fuck mlm’s and please help anyone you know who’s in one to get out.
Same I was involved in one & a lot of the people at the meetings were middle aged recruiting young college kids. I remember going to graduations & passing out envelopes 😪
My ex was involved in one and he tried to sign me in several times, I even had to help him whenever he hosted those "parties". Thank God I don't have to deal with all that anymore lol
Aly Good hello! i am said partner. for most of last year i was involved in amway/world wide dream builders. there are a lot of AMOs (amway motivational organizations) but as far as i know WWDB is the most successful and most toxic in its manipulation.
Reminds me of Pursuit of Happyness where Will Smith’s character buys a ton of those machines and has to sell at least one a month to pay rent.... really sad and insightful film
I wish I could translate this to Spanish cause even here in Chile MLMs are everywhere, and sometimes I don't know how to explain other people why those "business" are scams
Hi, it freaks me out how people buy that kind of shit, they waste money on stuff that doesn't even work (Herbalife and Omnilife). I see older people spending money to be "healthier" when they barely can afford it, because they believe it will work, it will help them with memory loss, obesity, even cancer. My aunt got in debt because of Herbalife, I remember very vividly how my cousins would have a shake every morning because they were really poor and they invested a lot on those products. The last experience that I had with an MLM was last year, I thought I got an interview for a job and it turned out to be one of those "parties" where they invited you to join them. Worst part: after an hour of hearing bs there were people that actually believed them and started working for them. I can only hope that they are okay now. Esas weas deberían ser ilegales 🙄
A new name for a pyramid scheme. It’s so weird how a regular former friend suddenly morphs into a crazy insensitive weirdo trying to force you to buy into their grift, and buy them out of the grift, since they’re stuck in the debt of that grift.
TheSameYellowToy I experienced ALL of what you said while joining Argonne....when I left, I was totally shunned by all my good “friends”....I am in contact a decade later with NONE of them...I was a lazy, loser failure who gave up on the dream....lol....I worked my butt off but wasn’t going to be brainwashed enough to worship the founders or my up line or ruin my personal relationships over selling all the product I could. It’s a horrible scam and I almost always can find equal or better quality products, with a tiny bit of research, for less.
Tf i didn't even know all this "boss babe" and "girl boss" was about these mlms n all😭😭😭😭😭 i just thought they're some encouraging quotes for women and girls who're working hard to become financially independent n stuff😭😭😭
My college roommate once won a "free 45 minute facial for you and a friend" as part of some kind of raffle/drawing at a work event (or possibly a Greek life thing?). We were broke and really excited for a fancy pampering experience. The lady showed up to our dorm room and it turned out our "facials" were a Mary Kay presentation/sales pitch/polite bullying experience wherein we got to try tiny samples of makeup and moisturizers. I remember both of us feeling overwhelmingly embarrassed, as if *we* had done something wrong? So we just sat there for 45 minutes nodding and listening, and each wound up buying something small just to get it all over with. I wish to this day I'd firmly but kindly given that lady a piece of my mind for the false advertising BS, and kicked her out.
I had a friend that entered mine and another friend's name/number at some raffle at an event as well (we didn't know about it) and we get a text that we had supposedly won "free facials". We just had to call the lady to set up our appointment. It got to the point that the lady would text me everyday asking if I'd like to meet that day blah blah blah. I eventually blocked her number because of how annoying she was. But it never occured to me that it might have just been a sales pitch or something else! I'm glad I skipped out on that
@@EYTSIRHC1 Ugh! Good to know that this kind of manipulation is a common Mary Kay tactic, probably taught to them and encouraged, and not just a consultant gone rogue. I have never been into any mlms, but Mary Kay has a reputation of being "one of the good ones" - clearly, they aren't. It's amazing how people can get comfortable straight-up lying to others to make money off them.
That happened to my sister-in-law and me. We thought we were getting samples of facial stuff/lotions etc. like a girls night, but it was a mary kay thing.. we just looked at the each other like "oh no..." I felt so bad bc I was the one who suggested we go! Never again. ugh.
Can I just say how appealing it is to be hounded across town by a dude from ELEMENTARY school going "You can lose the weight you've gained since ELEMENTARY school with my Herbalife chocolate shakes!" Hold me while I swoon, you suave entrepreneurial beast!
Here in Mexico Mary Kay & Avon are SO COMMON like moms and old ladies will be more likely to have makeup from this brands than from any regular drugstore/ high end brand. Once Mary Kay even sponsored a very popular national tv show
@@nublessed8993 Avon is technically an MLM but in the uk at least the people working for avon aren't buying inventory like mentioned in this video, they're just taking orders for avon, its not predatory or forceful as the ones in this video its more chill
Avon is not that bad, you don't buy inventory or don't hold stock, their products are also actually quite good! I used to do AVON ages ago when I was in school to earn some pocket money and for relatively cheap makeup because I was too broke for stuff like L'Oreal, lol. That being said, the tactics are similar in a sense that they're promoting this boss babe life and they are encouraging this bullshit of preying on your Facebook friends and stuff. But yeah, at least with AVON you can order just for yourself and get a discount and not worry about 'keeping a status' or whatever. At least that's what it was like 5 years ago.
Saffy Tata I think you need to look up how franchises work. MLM and franchises are absolutely not the same thing. At all. My local Domino's Pizza owner doesn't make money recruiting other people to become Domino's Pizza franchises and then take a cut of their profit.
I once went to a job interview for a cosmetics brand that sold very expensive cosmetic products. I got the job and during in the first training day they told us to target women specifically and while we put on lotion or whatever on their skin we should “ask them about their day, make them feel important.” They even encouraged us to talk about their wrinkles, blemishes and whatever without turning them off and making it look like the product we’re selling would make their lives better. Needless to say I left that day and called the following day to let them know I was not interested in the job and that I wouldn’t continue the training because I had finals that overlapped. They asked me to reschedule the training day but I said no thanks, I’m not interested. While this company didn’t exactly work as an MLM (we still got commission for our sales only if we reached a monthly goal), they reach to those who are desperate, lie to them and force them to lie to customers and manipulate them into buying their stuff.
That depends on your views on makeup, cosmetics and wellness tho. While most cosmetics brands focus on the pursue of “perfection” and beauty standards, makeup also works as a way of self expression and taking care of your skin is also vital considering it’s an organ. There are some brands such as Glossier, Tatcha, Halo Beauty and Lime Crime whose marketing strategies focus on positive messages and the industry is slowly shifting its message to a more inclusive and self loving one. There is no denial there are still brands that use people’s insecurities to sell, and sadly they’re the huge ones.
@@mariapiaspagnuolo4384 self-care and artistic expression is just a rebrand of "do your friends talk about you behind your back?" Listerine-type marketing for the 21st century. Anything to get that coin
All The Artsy That depends on your views on the subject, again. Capitalism and marketing strategies exist, but there’s no one universal truth on what makes a person unleash their creativity or feel like they’re taking care of themselves and loving themselves, as there is no one universal truth on people’s intentions and what actually drives people to buy certain products. What is actually cruel and vile is to manipulate someone by saying a 24k gold mask or Dead Sea salt scrubs will make their blemishes, wrinkles or patchy/dull areas go away by pretending to be their friend for 30 minutes and listening to their problems so you can get a commission. I think we can agree on that.
Yep when I was like 19 or 20 I bought a train ticket and traveled to another city for a "job interview" that turned out just to be some dude meeting me in a cafe and trying to recruit me to sell energy drinks. I had put a job search notification online and he had called me directly to my phone to talk about a job opportunity in "sales" and mentioned about being a startup company, I asked for a confirmation email and he send me a time and a location that was next to a big mall in another city, being inexperienced and naive I just went through it. Somewhere in the middle of the interview I realized what was going on when he pulled out an energy drink which was the company's "product" and told me I'd have to buy it if I wanted to try it and said there's convention going on that I should go see in a couple of weeks and get back to him about the job. He talked me 2-3 more times after that but I never went to the convention.
This reminds me of Shanann Watts, who was killed by her husband Chris. She worked for an MLM and her Facebook page was open for anyone to see and had constant post about her products and her personal life because she had to promote that amazing life image to her followers even though her personal life was breaking apart. It is so sad to go on her Facebook page now and see how she had to sell this image of a wonderful husband and great life when in reality it was breaking apart.
She was making decent income doing it. About $60 - $80k a year and with her husband’s income they were earning over six figures household income. So it was easy for her to portray the perfect life. Just a reminder that no matter what, you have NO IDEA what’s really going on with someone
@@UdoADHD Stoooop!😫 She wasn't making shit! That's why they already filed for bankruptcy once and were on the verge of another one. She sold enough to get her car paid for and get free product. And that's with her working for several MLMs at the same time (Thrive, Younique, Lularoe etc)
Remember, if you have to purchase to start working, you are a customer, not an employee.
It's also kind of like when you start your own business. You pay for inventory, innovation, etc.
Elizabeth Morales Not the same at all.

@Chaos Burrito I'm from London originally. I've found Canadians and Americans use these familiars long before they are in a relationship/friendship/on terms with me where that would be a appropriate.

This is so sad! So sorry for your loss, and so sorry that you two went through this with them!

They really try to alter this shit to drag you in.
@@chloeschmidt7884 So Guy Boss?
yup, i've seen some ads for "start your own drop shipping business" -- not a scam in and of itself. but at least the way i understand it, the drop shipping market is pretty oversaturated now. if you wanted to get in on it you should have started like 2 or 3 years ago. but now there are people offering all these master classes that cost like $500 or something, and those opportunities do seem to be more directed at men for some reason.
My dad got involved in one of these and I remember being 9 years old and getting dragged to events at fancy hotels where some guy would show us his Mercedes Benz and spew out motivational speaking bullshit. I'm pretty even at 9 years old I realized that it was all too good to be true

They copy and paste their messages 100 times so it makes sense that they’re so robotic
right??? I always thought they were bots
i think they look so robotic not only because the messages themselves are written in a non-human way, but because those people also never chaintext, it's just one big wall of text, which bots usually do
The best one I've ever had was about 2 years after my son passed away. A girl from school messaged me saying she was sorry to hear I had lost my boy. @@saffymccabe7705 There are differences between a franchise and an MLM:
-You need a business license to run a franchise.
He could have just looked for it after high school.

you're totally right entrepreneurs own their own businesses so why change the words around because other people are close-minded?
Honestly!!! I hate when they say they own their own business... like no, no you don’t. Or “I’m my own boss” like no? You report to your upline aka your BOSS. Like I get it. The dream of being your own boss, working from home, making good money from your phone, owning a business, BUT this... this is not the way.
If you have to pay a fee to work, that should be all the red flags you need.
Spongebob paid Mr Krabs $100 an hour when he started at the Krusty Krab and that worked out for him in the end. So not always...
I owned a business. I had to pay to work. All the time. In fact. I had to pay out more and more the bigger we got. More legal fees. Contractors. Taxes. So. Not sure on the logic of this particular criticism. 🤑🤓☠️

You are, and I cannot express this enough, NOT an entrepreneur if you work for an MLM. You don't own your own business. You are a salesperson or recruiter. I know so many people who fall for these scams and call themselves entrepreneurs and it just makes me sad for them because I've never actually seen it work out.
I just think it's really super degrading and offensive to, oh I don't know, ACTUAL entrepreneurs! lol.
Worked for me though . Follow me on Ig you will see @tomrivas

It especially bothers me when MLMs try to guilt moms with that “do you really want someone ELSE raising your children” line. Both of my parents were military, so I had an after-school nanny growing up. My mom was still the one who raised me!! (AND she was a huge role model for me bc she was an AF pilot and I thought she was such a badass lol.)
At 26, I’m still close to my old nanny and consider her a surrogate aunt
What I always remember when she said “I dont need my husbands’s permission to buy stuff”
I had nanny too but doesn’t mean my mom is less of a mother than any other mom who stays at home.
But that is the risk if you decide to have children when both parents have to work 🤷♀️
That doesn't make it okay to guilt trip moms, however.

Claudia Jade You should consider yourself lucky.

I had someone come to my house to drop off a “diffuser” that I “won” at a Bridal Fair. She came in and tried to pitch me a $5000 vacuum cleaner.... my granny and my mom were over visiting and she still kept going. I ended up asking her to leave and not to contact me again.
Yeah, that’s kinda why MLMs are super big in Utah 😬
They are very cultish. Many of them have a leader who is worshipped in a Christ-like fashion. My in laws were deep into Amway. When they got "deprogrammed" they admitted that they'd lost about 45,000 in 3 years. They're garage was full of products. I don't think they ever sold any, but by buying them, they advanced their position in the organization.
Because MLMs are cultish in nature, and people who are easily manipulated by religiosity are perfect targets for the religion angle if the other tactics dont work.

High demand religions, fasc tendency abrahamic religions, and corporate cults/MLMs all have the same skeleton
I cringe at the phase Boss Babe. Its sounds ironically sexist and degrading. Why not just Boss? What does me being a girl have ti do with it?
Well put
Not to mention that babe is douchey
There is nothing more degrading than this term - Attempt to celebrate being a boss while also qualifying that you beat the odds and accomplished something while also being a "girl" "babe" "mom" . Take a look at real female executives, they never, EVER, would degrade themselves by calling them self or someone else a "bossbabe"
Sophia Amuroso (Nasty Gal) is making a killing with the phrase now. 🙄

As a military spouse, I can see so clearly how enticing it’s meant to be towards us. “Make friends for life.” Or “you’ll find your best friends!” Moving state to state is really lonely. But thankfully it’s not lonely enough for me to join a MLM lol.
McKahla Jena Agreed. And the “be a stay at home mom when your spouse is away”. Bs. I feel bad for every military spouse who falls for this.
How many guys do you average a night on deployments?
Erium fuck you for this comment but I laughed 🤭

I almost joined an MLM when I was really low on money and studying. I had ordered the starter pack and just talked about it to a friend with a stupid sell speech. That very night, I woke up feeling like a trapped animal, full anxiety attack, I deleted everything at 3 am and called my poor friend telling her: it's a scam, it's a scam, please forget everything I told you earlier. Gut feeling saved me on that one!
good that you realised it in time, many people don't. These things pray on vulnerable people.
Yeah they do the whole I'm working hard to support my family.
@@gothamcat i think Mary Kay and Avon are still less pushy than all the others.
Ignaz S. yeah avon is pretty legit, my grandma makes a lot of money off of it and their stuff isnt garbage
When you realise that Tupperware and Avon are examples of MLMs 😳😳
At least tupperware got a quality product tho. >.
I've never been dissatisfied with tupperware plastic. You do you tho. Ain't nothing I care to stick my nose in.
And i am so sorry that this comment ended up being soo long

another group that MLM’s target are COLLEGE STUDENTS.
Sounds like primerica
I once got a text from Vector Marketing trying to recruit me. I didn't know much about MLMs at the time, so the only reason I didn't want to look into it was because the rep told me that a former acquaintance (who I cut all ties with after he went to prison for sexual assault) had given them my number. I didn't want to work or associate with a sex offender, so I turned it down. If he hadn't gone to prison for that, I might've gotten suckered in...

Great idea
YES! Great money in sales. One of the few jobs a woman can do without a degree and make a very good living.
Natalie Crowley I tell women who are thinking about an MLM or want to work from home, and have good skills and work ethic to go get a real estate license.
G. Dub that costs like 2 grand and some brokerages are basically network marketing like Keller Williams
Yeah, the people who actually do decent in MLMs develop good skills, if they were applied to any other company, then they would actually make good money.
Ugh the “hun,” triggered me. If I had a penny for every time I got that from a MLM recruiter I could buy my own starter kit 😂

A. J. A lot of people are negative about these because they felt suckered into one in the past. If this is something her friend truly wants, no need to feel sorry for her. One man’s trash and another man’s treasure.
During training sessions for one I was in, they more or less taught you that it’s ok to “cut off dead weight”. A cult of sociopaths.
I like how you used "held us hostage" in this context
in the case of military spouses, starbucks has a program specifically for veterans and military spouses where it's easy for them to transfer stores. it's a stressful job but i couldn't deny the benefits were pretty sweet when i worked there
That's actually pretty good and i think more stores should do that
That's really good actually! And a good way to meet new people in that area. The relationship between a mom and her barista is sacred
It’s only good if you can get hired, so many wives were fighting over a few positions available in Germany
It wasnt a stressful job for me. It was actually one of my favorite and I had the best team of peers. And I worked in a downtown area where the line would be out the door for hours at a time...

Janine Lee that’s so incredibly inappropriate of her. Talk about predatory!
And I don't have the people skills to recruit others."
But I kinda felt more disappointed because we are business graduates and we were told multiple times about these MLMs and their dangers. And yet here we are.
Happened to me too
That’s the thing that annoys me the most.

Yeah me neither! I used to use those hashtags in my IG posts because I legit thought it was full of entrepreneurial ladies, not MLM. Never again!
I'm glad I skipped out on that
That happened to me too!! And I also felt the same embarrassment like I had done something wrong. It’s crazy!
Same happened to me! thought I was in for a full spa night but nope! Luckily I didn't but anything
That happened to my sister-in-law and me. We thought we were getting samples of facial stuff/lotions etc. like a girls night, but it was a mary kay thing.. we just looked at the each other like "oh no..." I felt so bad bc I was the one who suggested we go! Never again. ugh.
Can I just say how appealing it is to be hounded across town by a dude from ELEMENTARY school going "You can lose the weight you've gained since ELEMENTARY school with my Herbalife chocolate shakes!"
Hold me while I swoon, you suave entrepreneurial beast!
It's like he doesn't realize that people are supposed to put on some weight after they move on from elementary school, or they'd be underweight.
🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Loved this response (and sorry that this happened to you)
Every Herbalife seller I've came across have been complete assholes. My friend's mom was deep into it, the protein bars were kinda good ngl
Here in Mexico Mary Kay & Avon are SO COMMON like moms and old ladies will be more likely to have makeup from this brands than from any regular drugstore/ high end brand. Once Mary Kay even sponsored a very popular national tv show
I know!!
Wait Avon is an MLM?? Shit it's so common here in the u.k!
Srsly we own sm Avon I'm scared
The only redeeming part of Facebook is the private group "Sounds Like An MLM, but ok"
By turns hilarious, enraging and just plain sad. It’s a great group.
lol I'm in this group too
Haha I’m apart of that group too
I love this group
When you join an MLM, you aren’t your own boss. Your Upline is your boss.
Almost, your upline can't fire you or change your compensation. But the company itself can and it does happen quite ofteb.
Lol wrong. You don't have a boss. You own a franchise. Look up how franchises work as you obviously don't know
Saffy Tata I think you need to look up how franchises work. MLM and franchises are absolutely not the same thing. At all. My local Domino's Pizza owner doesn't make money recruiting other people to become Domino's Pizza franchises and then take a cut of their profit.
Not necessarily!
No
I got recruited for Arbonne a few years ago, and someone pulled me into a Primerica meeting this morning. Thankfully, someone sent me your video.
Tamarah Bryan how bad is primerica
I wish it was like the old days where people added or followed you because they were interested in a friendship not to sell you crap.
me, misunderstanding the title: “gay and bi men are a scam?”
Jdjvoencov me too. I keep forgetting what mlm scams are and getting confused when I see the acronym.
Im a gay guy who KNOWS what "MLM" means but whenever I see it I get shocked or confused for a second before my brain starts working
ME TOOO
Yes. We scam str8 people by making them think we are one of them.

That is literally every single cosmetic, beauty and wellness product tho. If people weren't insecure, no one would buy those shit lol
Thats all sales Jobs. I worked in sales jobs and always made 6 figures it's how it works
I almost joined one. They pulled my resume from a job site. Had an office rented out. Called it a group interview. Shady AF.
Hmm I'm currently looking for a job, so now I gotta watch out for these people who recruit for shady businesses
Ugh, that happened to me too. I was a desprate kid in college, amd they were trying to make me buy a starter kit for their company.
Same with agressive sales jobs in insurance and credit cards.
That’s all I could think about while watching this!!
Positively Udo: Which MLM do you work with? Is it the same one she worked with?
