  • V50 Headlight Level Sensor [Headlamp Failure Service Required] Volvo VIDA Code Reading - V70 S40 C30
    👉 Here's the guy on Ebay selling the same kit as I used in this video: ebay.us/Qgh5qu
    👉 And if you want to try and get a copy of Vida yourself, this is the DiCE cable you would need: ebay.us/GwJ4X3
    I'd recommend going with the laptop and cable with Vida pre-installed. Prior to pulling the trigger on that I did plenty of reading around about how to get it set up myself.
    At which point I realised that it would likely be a considerable hassle and involve taking a punt on a very expensive cable anyway.
    If you're braver than I, however, many people have successfully used those DiCE cable clones and managed to install a version of Vida themselves to get the same result.
    In this video, I fix a "Headlamp Failure Service Required" warning that was appearing on the dashboard of my 2011 Volvo V50 car.
    Having looked up the issue and finding out that it could be due to a variety of things on the car, such as a failed headlamp, or headlamp level sensors front or rear, I decided to avoid stabbing in the dark and get set up with proper OBD2 fault code reading equipment.
    Not to mention my Volvo V50 is a high mileage daily driver that I'm trying to keep going on the cheap, I can see the Vida setup coming in very handy for me and it'll probably save me a fortune in the long run.
    Having got my hands on Vida, it almost immediately revealed that the problem with my V50 was actually the front axle sensor. Code "HCM-B104312 Front Axle Sensor - General Electrical Failures - Circuit short to battery" to be precise.
    With that, I ordered up a new, used but known-working part to throw on. This seems to be the end of my problems with the headlight level issues with this car.
    Hopefully, this video will help those people with the same Headlamp Failure Service Required warning on their car. I believe it should also apply for Volvo C30, S40, V70 and so on.

      @@SPANNERRASH Welcome, you're a natural at it 🙂. I have a 2012 V50 SE Lux. Liking it but noticed my drivers side headlight beam points way over to the left. Do you know where to adjust beam for horizontal movement. Cheers. Steve.

      @@SteveUKUSNZ Interesting issue there, I don't believe there is a left/right adjustment dial unfortunately. But you say the drivers side points to the left which makes me wonder if its set up for a left hand drive car.
      If you remove the headlight from the car I think you can open it and there's a kind of switch to change between LHD and RHD. So it could be that if the headlight was ever changed for example.
      Another thought is a potential issue with the headlight steering motors, if you car is equipped with that? Maybe the motor on the drivers headlight is stuck to the left side for some reason.
      I'm not well versed on this one, but hopefully two useful avenues of investigation for you pal. 👍

    Thanks for the video. I have a 2016 XC 90 and I have been getting suspension service required messages as well as the headlamp message - although the headlamp one comes and goes. I brought it to a dealer and they said it was the right front sensor for the suspension that was faulty. I am hoping that once that is replaced, the headlamp warning will go away as well.

    • @SPANNERRASH
      @SPANNERRASH  2 роки тому

      Sounds likely that will solve your problem Harley, hope it's as straight forward on the XC90 as it is the V50.

    The sensor's arm points to the wrong direction. It should piont to the back of the car. The bracket on the control arm should be right angle and the linkage betwen the control arm bracket and the sensor's arm should be almost upright.

    Can you check your power values on the level sensors? Vida says it should be between 2-5V on each of them when car is in absolute level. I have 2.0V on the front and only about 1 V on the back sensor.

      Hi mate, I haven't been under the car in a long while, and hopefully that will continue! 😂 Hopefully someone else who is looking at the level sensors can help you out with that if you're still stuck. Sounds likely your back sensor has conked out though.

      Hi, after looking into setting VIDA up myself, and realising the cable alone is around the £135 mark, I purchased the full code reading setup (laptop with VIDA pre-installed and cable) from the guy on ebay who sells them. He's got one for sale now: ebay.us/Qgh5qu
      Pricey, but its going to be however you do it. At least this way there's a guarantee it will work.

      Hi, unfortunately the guy selling the kits seems to have stopped for some reason. Not sure why, maybe he will be back.
      Alternatively you can look up a guide to install VIDA yourself on a laptop and get a separate cable. But sadly I can't advise you on how to do that as I got it all as a kit.

      Hi Aleksandar, I picked it up cheap on ebay. It was a known good one.
      Here's a top tip, I actually used one from a BMW car. It looked identical to the original one I needed to replace apart from the writing on it, so I bought it on a punt, and it worked perfectly.
      It's the same part :)
      They're very expensive new from the dealer I think.
      Hope that helps

      Hi Todd, just found it cheap on ebay. It was a tested good one though.
      In actual fact, its one from a BMW. It looked identical to the original one I needed to replace in the pictures, apart from the writing on it saying BMW. I took a punt on it and it worked perfectly.
      So it really is the same part. They're over priced from the dealer so I'd recommend going this route. Hope that helps

      Hi Callum, I found it very cheap used on ebay, only around £10 if I recall.
      It's worth noting that I used one from BMW. It looked identical to the original Volvo one which came up, apart from the BMW sticker on it. I took a chance on it and it works perfectly to this day. Hope that helps.

      @SPANNERRASH  Рік тому +1

      @@CR_C30R I'd be very surprised indeed if they needed coding, the C30 is pretty much a V50 with the back end chopped off. In terms of running gear its pretty much the same car.
      That code definitely sounds like switching the level sensor will solve your problem. My advice is get under the car, take the sensor you have off and have a good look at it to match it up visually with a tested working one on ebay then take a punt. Can always return it if it makes no difference after you plug it in.

    Could you name me OE part number?

    • @SPANNERRASH
      @SPANNERRASH  2 роки тому

      I think it's this: 30797971
      But there are a few different numbers for these as they seem to have updated the part multiple times. As I mentioned in the description, lots of cars use these sensors and I think many of them are interchangeable. The one I fitted was a used but known working BMW part!
