This is why I love my switch grips because if I'm hanging on too long I can switch to the size up and I can roll the ball so much better.
Hell yes they are. I have 7 different sized switch grips because nothing stays the same.
Without meaning to, you're making a really good argument for learning how to bowl without using the thumb. (Either "two handed" or the old Mike Miller style.)
Definitely meaningful information! Fit is so important as I've been finding out recently after dealing with issues for over 2 years. Went from round to an oval, but the ovals at the wrong angle (just found out). As well as my span a half an inch long on two of the three fingers. It's been a journey! Love informational and instructional videos keep them coming! Thanks!
If you oval the upper left side that changes the total span, ovaling from the bottom right doesn’t if it matters to anyone.
My pso uses the digital pitch gauge to get the exact width.
My old PSO would oval by hand vs the using the bit.
Don't over think this
After reviewing your recent video, JR. I'm considering using Switch-Grips with different thumbs. In the past, I did use custom thumbs with no problems. Now, because of 12+ years of inactivity, my specs are much different now than the last time that I drilled a ball. So practicing with used equipment is helping out right now until I drill out some gear. Even then, I know things will always change.
Why does it get so hard to have a consistent thumb?
Cannot wait to see the review of the one remix
I feel my thumb getting slightly stuck sometimes... Wish I could get an oval shaped insert / cut. Leauge hey ?? Give it a go! It's tough, I know (I play a Monday night leauge!) so yea, try to enjoy it and try to take some videos (if possible)...
Cool video talk tech bowling Jr Raymond
It's a game of touch after all.
I have shaped my thumb inserts like your red one. I have kind of flat thumbs so my thumb inserts are really oval shaped (not square at all). Additionally, my thumbs change size (and a little shape) all the time so I have had to become a thumb taping master. I am constantly having to adjust with tape, both in my thumb insert and on my thumb, a bizarre combination to get the right fitting and the right friction. It can sometimes take me quite a while to get it all just right, somedays I never do get it "just right", other days I can get it right quite quickly. I hate my thumbs! .. I wish they would stay the same size and shape all the time. Sure would make things easier for me. I do have my thumb inserts setup just about perfect though, so life is good after all. For me, one of my tests for a perfect thumb fit is to have my thumb as loose as possible but still be able to hang my ball by my side with ZERO grip pressure without the ball falling off my hand. I like to throw my ball with what I call "dead hands", essentially zero grip pressure throughout the entire swing and release. The more relaxed I can make my hand and have my release happen automatically at the right moment, the better. It's like my golf swing too. I am a crappy bowler but a very good golfer. In golf, I have "dead hands" as well as absolutely loose wrists. I use my core muscles (the big muscles) to control my golf swing and allow the golf club to automatically release at exactly the right moment, all by itself. I believe the release of a bowling ball should be done the same way.
We did this in the 70's.
Big fan mayne. I’ve been bowling occasionally in leagues but finally getting serious. I have thumb issues!

Look into getting switch grip thumb inserts. They changed my whole game. Whether my thumb is getting too tight or too loose, I always have the size I need. Plus, I always have the same feel fit for each ball.
@@kevinscarborough9982 yea I have the switch grip and it’s been nothing but a revelation
@@michaelmiller8418 I was turned on to them midway through last season. I wish I knew about them sooner than I did.
How much do you charge for a good fitting/drilling session, and do you think it'll help my scoring (avg low 200's in league)? I've never had anyone look at the oil on my ball before drilling, or even watch me throw a shot before measuring and drilling basic layout
so my ball seems to hang up a bit and i think i have 1/4 reverse pitch on my thumb so should i try forword pitch ? it doesnt hurt or anything just hangs up a bit longer then id like it to?
I always feel that I’m thumbing it forward. So if I understand what you did…you tightened up the thumb hole from front to back and widened the sides. Is that correct?
My thumb hangs on the sides of my knuckle..proshop dude doesn't seem to want to open the hole more ..what is the next step ?
Change pro shops? Learn to do it yourself?
Get a new proshop guy. PRONTO!!!
Find a proshop guy who will work with you to get you fitted properly the way you want. Not how he wants.
Get a work out tool and do it yourself. Use the tool to remove large amounts of material in the part of the hole you want to widen. Then take 160 grit sand paper and work out the remainder in those spots that you need to have a perfect fit. Take 600 followed by 1000 to make it super slick and remove all the rough friction of the urethane slug.
Maybe you bending your thumb inside the thumbhole. That might be why your PSO doesn't want to open the hole. If he opens it more, you might bend your thumb more, and then you'll hang up more. Check your grip and feel if you are squeezing the ball with you thumb tip instead of a little pressure with your thumb straight. If you straighten your thumb and drop the ball then you need to use some tape.
Fucking bummed I ruptured my bicep tendon and had surgery again on my right arm. I'm sitting for another 6 months. I wish I had problems with my thumb
Get well soon man
All the best Josh. Waiting is so hard Heal well
Hope you get better bud I was in the hospital last year plus they wanted to do more surgery I said no way heal soon sir.👍
I feel your pain, Josh. I haven't thrown a ball in 12+ years, not due to a bowling injury, but due to an motor vehicle accident which required surgery to both shoulders. I definitely want to get back into active competition. All the best with your recovery and keep the faith.🙏🏾
@@charlespeakjr2168 thanks. Hope you're feeling okay
