Lyrics
Midwinter wrongs the rites of Spring
Her spinal chill rakes the earth
Whilst pensive souls at zero sing
Woebetidings of rebirth
Under cold stares of Mars maligned
Near-suicides cross their hearts
And unborns writhe in tepid brine
For something wicked this way starts
Beneath the howling stars
Elizabeth, paragon of vice
Watches the sun set pyres alight
As Bane and Tyranny, Her Dobermans sleep
Like spellbound paramours at Her feet
A chatter of bells without
Raise hellhounds, teeth on edge
From sleighs hastened through snow lit red
Guests espied from the garret ledge
Great gloomy mirror tell Her face
She will outblind them all
That heavenly bodies would fall from grace
To possess such a lustrous pall
For beauty is always Cruel...
For beauty is always...
(Let destiny in chains commence...
Damnation under Gods seeking recompense
Enslaving to the whims of this mistress)
As the dance ensued
Elizabeth's mood
Tempered by the craft of a vitreous moon
In slick black iciness it grew
To consume
The wench Her tower tombed
Tending to Her costume
Bore the brunt of the storm
When the needle askewed
She has Her dogs maul the bitch's wrists through
Restored to jaded bliss
This evisceratrix
Descended to the ball
With painted blood upon Her lips
Passing like a comet so white
As to eclipse
The waltz wound down, transfixed
Devoid of all breath in the air
Even Death paled to compare
To the taint of Her splendour
So rare and engendered
'Pon the awed throng gathered
There...
Beneath the howling stars
She danced so macabre
Men entranced divined from Her gait
That this angel stepped from a pedestal
Had won remission from fate
By alighting to darker spheres
Delighting in held sway
For She was not unlike the Goddess
To whom the wolves bayed
"Whilst envy glanced daggers
From court maidens, arboured
Who whispered in sects
Of suspicions abroad
That Elizabeth bewitched
See how even now the whore casts
Her spells upon the Black Count
Whom Her reddened lips hold fast"
Tongue unto tongue
Swept on tides without care
For the harpies who rallied
Their maledict glares
A halo of ravens tousled Her hair
Chandeliers a tiara
For passions ensnared
"Phantasies sexed
When their eyes, moonstruck met
Their friction wore a way
Through the sea of foreplay
Lovers at first bite
She an Eve tempted to lay
Gasping at rafters
Flesh pressed in ballet"
But caprice, honours leashed
She absconded the feast
To prowl wonderland
Beasts in hand from the Keep
Of Feudal dilemma
Well mantled in furs
Through cullis to watch
Dogstars howl at the earth
On this violent night
Unholy night
Winds lashed their limbs together
As the ether vent its wintry spite
She wished His kiss on Her frozen landscapes
To excite the bleak advance
From castle bowers
Wherein small hours
The Devil never came by chance
A lone charm tied to Her inner thigh
Sent lusts nova as hooves trod
Cobbled streets where lowlives fleet
Were flung to a wayward god
Midwinter wrongs the rites of Spring
Her spinal chill rakes the earth
Whilst pensive souls at zero sing
Woebetidings of rebirth
Under cold stares of Mars maligned
Near-suicides cross their hearts
And unborns writhe in tepid brine
For something wicked this way starts
Beneath the howling stars
Pounding upon the pauper ridge
Earshot of a hunched beldame
Elizabeth teased, would He dare to please
Such elderly loins enflamed?
To this He feigned a grim disdain
Playing to Her slayful eye
But the h
Best line up...
Best performance...
This is my CRADLE of FILTH 🤘🤘🤘
Best line up is with Greg on KB
@@Peter-by3ox Les "Lecter" was as good as Greg but the difference is that Les was a better composer.
I think this is their best live performance ever recorded.
Other than the entire heavy left handed and candid performance they put on dvd. Thats better sound than the albums the songs are from.
Nick Barker, inspiring the extreme metal drummers in the future.
This video is disappointing because Barker had left the band by the time this was released so they largely edited him out of the video some don't get to see his amazing performance in full.
@@CameronBinaal his playing is flawless and the shots you do see of him he doesn't even look challenged.those triplets on the feet are phenomenal.
@@sticksman7819 I agree. It is really frustrating that there is not more and better footage of Nick in this. Plenty out there now though.
@@CameronBinaal yes I know, very frustrating.i remembering scouring the internet and never finding anything from Nic and this Astoria footage had to do.I don't mean that in a negative way because the performance on the whole with Nic's incredibly clean playing was a great fix.The Lockup footage is something that was long overdue.🤟🏻
For me it was joey jordison... sorry
Sarah's voice is unbelievable 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
I was at that show with my now wife. I can't believe I've only just found this upload. We went to so many gigs back then and whilst I didn't at the time I totally appreciate those awesome and plentiful gigs, especially at The Astoria.
Also, Nick Barker, what an outstanding drummer.
HOW I WISH I WAS W MY WIFE AT A COF SHOw IN THE 90S
@@eddiemperor really... :') me, too!
Big up Nicholas
if I took my woman to this u bet ur ass we'd be married
Nick Barker: making live better. Dani Filth: making life worth living.
Barker untouchable then and still untouchable. He made cof better and he made dimmu better. Shame this line up didn’t get to play the 20th anniversary show
Would be amazing to see Stuart live with Cradle Of Filth
Always amazed me how Nick was still able to pull this song off even though Lecter started the song a solid 20BPM too fast. Nick didn't miss a beat.
Lecter realized that after playing the "second line" on the keyboards, he slowed things down imediatly
He's one of the most underrated drummers - and talented fat men - on earth
He did CHECK That boi, and blended that nonsense with beauty.
@@andrepereira744 Still was faster than the original, unbelievable
The best lineup Cradle had. Barker owns!!
this is danny at his absolute best
Cruelty and the beast album was definitely Peak Cradle of Filth. I would have love to see this show.
I first saw Nick on Gorgoroths live Wacken video. I thought "damn that big boy can play". Now I know everything he touches turns to gold. He is like a machine gun and a human metronome.
I started listen this album I was 15 and 15 years later I'm still loving it!!!
same here.my favourite album
I had the cd when I was 16, smashed it when i decided to become a christian.
@@igni8554 That was a stupid decision and you know it.
For me it was late 2001 early 2002 at 15,5 years old when i started listen to them with The Principle of Evil Made Flesh and Cruelty and The Beast..Dusk and Her Embrace came summer 02'
What about now
I feel like Cradle Of Filth have aged alot better live than what people give them credit for, the difference in vocals over the years for Cradle Of Filth have been miniscule, especially compared to other bands that have been around for as long as they have
I saw Cradle this week, Dani's voice is still so rock solid it's insane.
his screams are damn high, respect
Antonio TF "Then you must here Thy Antichrist where is your god!
COF at their purest!!! I saw them live back then in Madrid!!
They are a shadow of there former selves. Saw them at Ozzyfest back when the just released Damnation and a Day. To mosh on asphalt all gashed up while it rained, and hear Danny Filth scream out Born in a burial gown. It's the most metal situation I've experienced.
Is it on the inhale or exhale?
@@hughmungus7015 All Exhales. Inhales do nothing but quickly destroy your vocals folds i would never recommend doing it.
If I could go back in time for whatever reason, I would come back to see this live.
nick barker is rediculously flawless
Too bad he joined ( for a short time anyway) the massively inferior latter era Dimmi Borgir...
CoF never sounded the same after he left, a very talented man. He also reminded me of uncle fester.
Yes, he's really incredible.
He's a machine
Es una máquina, contundente, preciso, un metrónomo impresionante
I love the organ in the middle
4:22 This is my favorite part. Dani's high screams are awesome. mostly is why I love Cradle of Filth.
This song is epic
I was in Madrid in that tour!! I was 16 years old, EPIC!! I miss both Nick and Sarah ever since.
By far their best album....
I love Sarah best vocals and Nick a true legend. And lector best keyboardist ever
R.I.P. London Astoria,
Saw Cradle' in 2004 there.
also rip. Stuart Anstis
He was my favorite drummer in the band.
Aaron L.S. Same for me.
lml lml lml lml lml
He was my favourite drummer in every band he played in. Seriously
He is still my favourite drummer... In Dimmu Borgir. 😁
The rumour was always that he quit CoF because they forced him to play an electric set in the studio for this album.
Adrian Erlandsson better
@@IchErsteEngelgott no fucking way. And Adrian would be the first to admit it.
the drums are fucking awesome. Blast beat king
I remember downloading this on limewire back in 03. Took a week to download. Was worth it. When I realised how good they were live especially nick and dani
Yes
Nick, Dani + Sarah were the best.. lucky enough to see that line up live a couple times, and met them all twice.

Old Cradle=Best Cradle
5:24 I'll love that shot forever, just beautiful.
Nick's beats are fucking genius👌
Just like they were in Old Man's Child and Dimmu Borgir
Remember the first time I´ve listened to Cradle - I still have this in VHS!!!!
I’ll buy it from you!
x2
I have the dvd. I got in about 2000. The energy in the crowd you just don't get anymore.
Same here.👍🏻
@@davidlewis1959 kkkkk no way Man!!!
RIP Stuart :(
:(
That vocal range shifting at 2:35 is fucking BRUTAL.
i seen them live 4 times. every time he broke his voice after 2-3 songs.
Back then he was something else
Ouch
Theyre in Albuquerque for their first time tomorrow night and I’m fucking GOING!!!!
Nicholas🤘🏿😈The best extreme metal drummer....... fucking great
It would be great if they published this concert in its entirety in an anniversary edition. long live to cradle of filth.
Been head banging to this song since 20 years now. Barker makes it special
3:25 when Dani tries to improv and Nick is like -"fu, true beat son" epic.
Do you mean 3:34?
Hoje bateu uma saudade da adolescência. Vim aqui
Dude .. what Dani Filth once can do with his voice is incredible. Now he is shadow of his past. Nick Barker.. greatest black metal drummer of all time!
I've been a huge Cradle fan for 26 years now and I must disagree. You should see (trust me) Dani perform the whole "Cruelty" album plus a bunch of other stuff as encore material and btw, he was even sick during the 2019 tour. And just like he said once during an interview: "I used to feel like an X-men with no control of power" (....)
My point is: without any doubt this 97/98/99' era is the most agressive Dani has performed, I second that! But keep in mind he just couldn't perform something like the whole Cruelty or Dusk (like he did months ago) even back then. He had the power (with no control); now he has the technique. If you get a chance to see Dani perform live nowadays (forget stupid youtube videos), seriously.... You'll get what I mean.
@@Helio-Marques actually theres live video from pandemic and he still got amazing vocal. ofc not that level but again - it was fucking 1998, centuries ago
Hard disagree, I saw Cradle perform live around two years ago and he's still just as good as he was back then! He just goes through rough periods because they tour too much for his stamina, when he actually takes time to recover from shows he has the exact same range as when he was younger.
damn, Nick barker, so smoothly man
Adrian Erlandsson better!!!
@@IchErsteEngelgott not even close bud
@@IchErsteEngelgott no way Nick Barker is better than Adrian Erlandsson
@@IchErsteEngelgott 😂😂😂😂😂😂....
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@IchErsteEngelgott Barker is in the league of Pete Comando Sandoval, Hellhammer, Dave Lombardo, you know, all of them are Legends
more than 15 yeas listening this álbum, just amazing!
Que bien se escuchan, respeto total a Dani Filth, lleva más de dos décadas haciendo una voz brutal y que buena fue la época con Nick en la batería
Dani es un puto amo.
ACL1PT
Dani ruined the band and made it a solo project
"May sombre flights of ravens wing you to your grave STUART"
A mi me encantó cradle of filth, gracias a este grupo de músicos, y tu legado siempre quedará en mi y en muchos
Where has this been all my life,
The drummer like what the fuck man. Wow. Words can’t fucking describe
A melhor é época, com Nick e Sara jezebel, the best forever!!!!
omg so fab love it
This is one of the best live editions of a song in general. Next to this that MTV Dusk and Her Embrace was godly too.
I miss this era..
my wife's head starts hurting when she listens to any black metal songs in the first 2-5 seconds. My head starts hurting if there is no black metal played around me. I need it 24 hours. I watched CRadle in Wacken in 2012 , Dani was upset he was asked to play in the sun
COF is not black metal.
If I had one chance to go back in time it would be right here
The problem with Cradle is the fact they cannot recreate the magic they had during this time. The current lineup are really talented musicians but the 90s stuff they did doesn't feel the same in live performances when Stuart, Nick, Gian, Robin, Lecter and Sarah are not in the band anymore.
well yeah they’re different people
i will say though, they bloody sure as hell can perform this stuff live still
@@EscapeThePieyeah I recently watched some recent live stuff and they sound better than ever.
Dude it makes me so sad… I haven’t liked shit since nymphetamine and the only song I liked was gilded cunt
Contrarily, existence is futile is one one of my favorite albums from them.
Just really liking the Barker comments,so here's another.Flawless,taste,accuracy,power.He looks so relaxed and what you hear to how chilled he looks just doesn't seem possible. The guy is an absolute legend in metal. My all time favourite.Long live Nick!!!
Nick Barker is a Genius!!! God of blast
id give an arm a leg and both my kidneys to see this gig today.
I rofl'd, but you're fucking damn right.
oh hell i am..
Same.. especially with the female singer. Opera style...
They still play tons of their old stuff live.
@@brUwUtality Not same dude, not same.
this is cradle of filth
His accent 👌❤
Always my favorite cradle song
These guys were so fun. I miss this style of superstar bands.
2021 and im back to listen cradle of filth again.
Dani era belissimo ❤
Nick Barker kicking ass...
Best Old Time of Cradle Of Filth ! With Nick Barker ! Fucking best time Ever !
COF at their purest!! I saw them live back then in Madrid!!!!!!!!
Best line up ever!
No Smartphones, no Selfie-sticks, just an ecstatic crowd. (o.O)\m/
English exams listening, final boss. Amazing literature by cradle of filth.
Poetic and astute I stand behind thee
Oh, those ninetes. :) This time the band had the best drummer (Nicholas Barker) , bass player (Robin Mark Eaglestone) and female vocalist (Sarah Jane Ferridge). :) That was my favourite trve Cradle Of Filth. :) - Megaorgasm starts at 6:08. :D Dany looks who is dying on the stage, what a power. :)
And guitar player (Stuart Anstis)
Masterpiece
Best line up ever.^^
I know
Melhor formação do Cradle. Nick monstruoso.
Vocal do Danny tbm tá foda
Concordo!
A Sarah, o Nick e o Leslie deveriam voltar.
Oui, c'est le meilleur "line up" de Cradle of Filth. Oui, oui Nick est terrible !
Best lineup
Best COF line-up ever. Nick is a beast behind the kit
Que hermoso se le escucha su acento al principio
Ingleses
Best lineup of COF.
I really miss this.
Este si era cradle of filth
To this day it's outstanding performance! I miss the old days !
RELEASE THE ENTIRE SHOW, CD AND DVD!!!!!
It will be ALWAYS my favorite band! Cof 4ever \m/
Goddamit I fucking love it!!
Awesome gig! Nick Barker is the man on the drums. I wonder if he would consider doing drum cam play through s of cradle and dimmu songs. for such an amazing drummer there is not much drum cam footage of him in those bands to buzz out too!
Seen them live twice early 2000s... Great
best song ever🤘
My favourite linup. Best CoF years!
I started to listen to this when I was 1,still love it!
The good old Cradle Of Filth style. \m/
One of my favourite dvds . One of my favourite live bands. Ever. Thank you for the first band masks ever . See you in Oct in Hamburg (sorry Germany Corona Dumbo country).
Nick & Dani at his best 🔥
Fan since the late 90s, finally going to a show in April, can't wait!
The best band on earth.
Jezabel had best back up vocals period I miss her🎉
This is peak-performance CoF. Unfortunately they were never better than this. I really miss the sexual, theatrical element in their shows, which they apparently gave up on some years ago.
Nickolas Barker...el mejor batería quebhabtenudo cradle of filth sin duda, y uno de.los diez mejores baterias de metal de la historia en mi opinión. Esta fue pornotro lado la mejor formacion.. increíble
I need those pants Dani's rocking.
Señor Dani Filth que tremendo vocalista fue usted
Better than studio ver. For speed n dani voice awesome !
Meh, he's not even hitting all the lines.
If they only made a blu-ray of the whole show...
Very impressive show
