The white gravestones of the armed forces are made of Portland Sandstone for it's hard wearing abilities, mined from Portland S/Coast. UK. The purest sandstone comes from Caan, France. Great video. New subscriber.
I agree with you ….I hate it when they clear graves stones away…various reasons I guess…dangerous state and no relatives? easier to cut the grass? But I also noticed quite a number of grave stone bases still left, but the top half with details gone, and awful number of grave stones fallen or broken…that’s awful. I have never seen complete addresses on a stone before, but I like it…as well as details of their occupations. It gives a nice mental picture of people living in the houses before, especially if you find your now living in said house! Unusual dark granite war memorials, as you say we normally see the lighter colour.perhaps these last longer,dont wear away as easily with the weather. When you filmed the inland revenue gentleman’s grave stone near the end, can you or any viewers tell me what the straps with buckles represented ,carved at the top? Lastly you horrified me when you said you thought health and safety people had pushed the stones over if they thought unsafe!! I appreciate it’s perhaps a concern, but that’s rather drastic! I know in my grandparents churchyard in Lancashire letters were left on graves that leaned, warning relatives that if THEY didn’t repair, then the church would remove! Sign of the times ! I am in Canada and have not heard of Clearing stones before. Who how and why is this done.....what is done with the stones.....are family or relative aware of this..... seems so unnecessary some how....it seems only a certain section is affected......
One Family name Peter Bellis the family traveled From Wales early1880s some of the family died of Diphtheria in weeks of each other son died in the ww1914)( My grandfather )I think that was Shelton grave yard Hope the council left it standing it was a part of the sad history of the potteries
Several Wedgwoods (NO second 'e' are remembered at Stoke Minster - several were non-conformists and are buried in non-consecrated ground - including Josiah Wedgwood I.

This cemetery has a lot of history to it. Lovely to see the stones are still standing. Not like so many these days.
