you are absolutely correct. You can find this shovel in Chinese ebay equivalent (taobao) with a price of around 10~15 dollars. It definitely doesn't worth 100 dollars.
Haha, just found a "genuine" one and this is it's description. ”Genuine 6411 Q5 Universal Spade Q5 Engineer Shovel Multifunctional Folding Spade for Debt Settlement Material Special Price Package”
His first attept to cut trough the band iron was probably not really intended this way, rather happened because he wasn't concentrated enough. The second attempt would've been a success, if he only had the loop fed in turned upwards ... I'm using two folding shovels (or field spades, as we germans put it) and one fixed. The first is the tree-piece-folder as shown above. Really useful in confined spaces and as a multi-purpose tool for cars. My second one is a two-piece folder made in South Korea. Incredibly stable and sturdy. The only bad thing with both are the nuts. Again and agian one has to re-tighten them. The fixed is a replica of an WWII entrenching tool as used in the german Wehrmacht with a shortened handle, which over the years proved to be indestrucible. In opposite to all others, it isn't pointed. It makes a perfect camp tool, comparable with the CS SF Shovel. As with all foldable shovels (exept the extremely tough but heavy old West German Army model), the tend to wear out and become wobbly. Therefore i prefer fixed shovels.
@GearBuyersGuide If it's the official army training tape, maybe they started to issue it recently. By the way, when was that tape dated? It don't sounds like the Chinese army's style to release training tape. Wondering why they stared to do that.
That's an impressive blade for sure, but I wonder how long it will keep it's edge after it travels against the rocks and dirt when you use the shovel to dig.
I think the hole in the bottom of the handle may be for some sort of extender for more heavy duty shovelling work but I am not 100% certain. As soon as I saw it the first thing that started going through my head was a mechanism for attaching a longer handle.
Hollywood should make a movie about how a man, having nothing but this shovel, survives the apocalypse and rebuild the whole civilization on wasteland.
@GearBuyersGuide by official army training tape, that's not the commercial you mentioned in the video, right? Then may be this thing is recently adopted by the army.
my Chinese one is great, I love the wooden handle, I need to have a folding one walking around England with anything like knife style makes the locals jittery and I live in the country, a non folder is ok for in your garden, anyway I know Americans hate Chinese EDC/Survival stuff but anyway great video.
At the start of the vid you said it was worth about $17 did you stiil agree with that at the end of the vid or would you say it was worth the $80ish that you paid? cheers
The first german shovel is an east german model back before the fall of the wall. The second nust ve of similar age but is west german and the third german shovel is afik now in use with our army.
Neat, I couldn't spend that much on a shovel though. "No match for the Chinese shovel." lol You have to try bringing that shovel to the bar! The hole could be used to attach a larger pole for more leverage. Good video!
About those Chinese letters, they simply means Chinese(中国) Multi-function(万能, literally means 10,000 functions, well in Chinese we tend to use this number to say it's "many") Military(军) Shovel.(锹). The holes at the bottom I guess they are for multi-position lanyard.
The design of chinese military shove is way better then the US and German ones. 1 The hinge is a solid lock,would not wobble after longe time usage. even it fails you can easily fix it . 2 Wood straight handle is way better than the america etool. Etool got that stupid trangular handle, which make it useless as a choping tool(which is advertised).
I have my doubts about this product. Just recieved mine, and I am not impressed about the quality of the steel. The "blade" used for chopping chips off very easily, and the scissor function gets damaged from cutting even the smallest of metal strips. I have the original version, not the Version II which is "The strength of steel increased,processing temperature higher than normal WJQ-308.". I don´t know if i´ll buy the version II some day, theres still no update on quality issue.
It seems it's only being sold through middle-men on Ebay right now, that's why the price is so inflated. $80 + shipping is way too much IMO. Someone really needs to get a distribution contract with North America because these things will sell well. (Either that or make an AMERICAN knock-off of the Chinese.) LMAO.
The three chinese characters on the handle, before ZL 99... means "Patent No.", and those on another side just says "Chinese Multi-utility Military Shovel" : )
@Hiluxtaco I hired a band to do background music.. but to make it more unique they only instrument they use is cymbals I am confident this will be the hot new trend in videos in 2011
@TonyWonderit yeah, and it is RMB other than US$. So,you may be cheated? Also , you need to sharpen the knife part , so every sellers in china won't sell a knife being sharpened.
Mine looks markedly different. I got mine as a Christmas present from a friend. I’ve used mine in bush crafting sessions and it’s a tank. However, I don’t know what my friend paid for it but I know it wasn’t cheap
I don't know man. I can't recall how many times in the US military I had to fend off an attacker using my shovel as a shield while seated in my parked vehicle, then use that same shovel to chop wood for a raft and then use it to paddle across the river and only to find I left my bottle opener behind and had noting to chop up that damn potato I kept in my pocket. No, seriously- I drank a lot when I was in and that bottle opener would have probably been wore out.
WJQ-308 wasn't real military shovel, PLA never use it, it's made by a small manufacture in Nanjing and sell to the civilian market. It does the job but not good enough for that price! The real one(PLA DJQ5) made by 6411 Factory(yes, this military factory doesn't have a name, only code). Real one can sustain ONE TONS when use as flying anchor. come with a pin for mine detection and also can use as a bayonet. Try google "DJQ5"
The one you got there looks like a cheap Chinese knock off of the Chinese Military Multipurpose Shovel (that's what the fancy words said). Also the numbers are patent number.
If you had knocked that beer over reviewing a Chinese shovel, we would've had to revoke your citizenship! Next thing you'll see is a two hour special on QVC or a late nite infomercial "As Seen On TV" - Not One, but Two Shovels and that's not all, call in the next 10mins and receive an genuine Chinese AK47 for 3 Monthly payments of only $19.95, limit 100 per household! I'd rather have to Woodmen Pal and a Leatherman!
U know it was all a good idea until I remember they can't access UA-cam in china took me a while to find a link with a photo to show him what I'm looking for. Waiting for his reply will pm u. Shipping may cost to go up
This is not that hi tech for chinese army to keep closely guarded secret. Even stealth 5th gen fighter aircraft was put on display and recorded in tv footage
I have the Glock e-tool and I wish it had the wire cutter and hammer but I love it. A very good ZRT tool!!! I suspect the a many Chinese Army soldiers used to take this "tool" out to the rice patties with people who spoke out against their their government....
All hail the magic shovel! Do not belittle the shovel or you will taste it's wrath!
you are absolutely correct. You can find this shovel in Chinese ebay equivalent (taobao) with a price of around 10~15 dollars. It definitely doesn't worth 100 dollars.
The real army model is called 6411-Q5... this one is made by a small private company and probably fake...
fake? like it can"t dig?
Where can I find the real thing?
@@BKJones face as in it can't army
Haha, just found a "genuine" one and this is it's description.
”Genuine 6411 Q5 Universal Spade Q5 Engineer Shovel Multifunctional Folding Spade for Debt Settlement Material Special Price Package”
Just dabbling into entrenching tools myself awesome collection

THEY NEED TO SEE THESE AT HARBOR FREIGHT
That's an impressive blade for sure, but I wonder how long it will keep it's edge after it travels against the rocks and dirt when you use the shovel to dig.

22:18 The sticker is a QA sticker. The fancy Chinese is the patent number for this shovel.
my Chinese one is great, I love the wooden handle, I need to have a folding one walking around England with anything like knife style makes the locals jittery and I live in the country, a non folder is ok for in your garden, anyway I know Americans hate Chinese EDC/Survival stuff but anyway great video.

Dude, do you know you can use the shovel to cook eggs ? You forgot to test it :)
The first german shovel is an east german model back before the fall of the wall.
The second nust ve of similar age but is west german and the third german shovel is afik now in use with our army.
By the looks of it you can undo a 8-10mm nut/bolt with it aswell
Neat, I couldn't spend that much on a shovel though. "No match for the Chinese shovel." lol You have to try bringing that shovel to the bar! The hole could be used to attach a larger pole for more leverage. Good video!
@GearBuyersGuide How's the overall quality, since its made in China...
Is that table up against a fan of some sort? Everytime that you jostle the table, it sounds like a fan guard is being bumped...
@URBANAMERICANTAC The Cold Steel is for American special ops but its patterned after the Spetsnaz shovel
I do have contacts in china who can get them at much lower than what u paid for but not so sure about shipping
@hannibal1980
how much lower?
You might be able to make some money, this was the cheapest one I could find
Are you going to get the Crovel extreme shovel. Its a American made multi-tool shovel.
@UncleDolans
it is strong, but not more than any other shovel
About those Chinese letters, they simply means Chinese(中国) Multi-function(万能, literally means 10,000 functions, well in Chinese we tend to use this number to say it's "many") Military(军) Shovel.(锹). The holes at the bottom I guess they are for multi-position lanyard.

@是我 haha translating to mandarin so more Chinese people feel good about there industry
I think a better test of the scissors is to place the shovel blade on the ground, anchor with your foot and then use the leverage on the handle.
Good demo on many of the features.
Is there a MOLLE pouch for these kinds of shovels without folding handles? Or do I have to mod an existing e-tool pouch?
How deep does that hole go? It could be a compartment to store small survival tools, like paracord, fishing wire, and matches.
I have my doubts about this product. Just recieved mine, and I am not impressed about the quality of the steel.
The "blade" used for chopping chips off very easily, and the scissor function gets damaged from cutting even the smallest of metal strips.

all joking aside, this is one of the best reviews of the shovel I have seen. Still think $100 is a bit much...like 4 x too much BUT nice show!
@K4IFX
lol, but would you at the $17 - $25 price point ?
Gear Websites that particular shape 15:51 what is for to fix detonator and blasting fuse together or can fix metal pipe and rope together.
@clavy2
right on, hope you like it

@K4IFX
I tend to agree, folding shovels are cool, but less than usefull for their weight IMO
They can do that with older shovels, too. But that is not very good practice, because that will annealing the steel.
@Hiluxtaco
I hired a band to do background music.. but to make it more unique they only instrument they use is cymbals
I am confident this will be the hot new trend in videos in 2011
@BBQofDOOM
!!!! DX? I haven't thought to look there, thanks
neat, i checked a chinese website for this thing, price range is RMB 250-350. roughly 40-60 bucks.
The texts on the sticker and handle says " Chinese multi-purpose military shovel" the rest of the text on the handle are serial numbers
I wonder if the hole in the handle could be used as a fire piston?
mood lighting? really? loved the vid.
@GearBuyersGuide
And the label above is the license of the product,it verified the shovel.
Also, you haven't used the saw properly.
@TonyWonderit
yeah, and it is RMB other than US$.
So,you may be cheated?
Also , you need to sharpen the knife part , so every sellers in china won't sell a knife being sharpened.
Seems like you're into these shovels try the Crovel at Gear up center hands down best one ever
Mine looks markedly different. I got mine as a Christmas present from a friend. I’ve used mine in bush crafting sessions and it’s a tank. However, I don’t know what my friend paid for it but I know it wasn’t cheap
@guychensn
wrong, I seen the official army training tape
When you in the meddle of no where, or a woo woo land, this tool can help.
that chinese backhoe is awsome. i got to get one.
I was thinking about making a survival saw with a 200 dollar price point... a mega super high quality one...
The number on the handle is the patent number.
Also, drinking Micky Ultra = good man.
@Joe55darter
LOL, exactly, now that I paid so much they will flood the market with $9.99 models ..
I`m ever-so slightly overly attracted to this saw..
@UncleDolans
Well it is strong, but only as strong as any other folding shovel.. in other words, for 5x the price it's not 5x stronger
saw them for sale at Sears for 112.00 but it looked a little different.
There is a function you didn't mention: you can use it as a pan to fry the eggs.
where can you buy it?
@hannibal1980
thanks
Damn, you have a lot of shovels lol
@yifan91
Like I stated before, the part you didnt read, I have an Original version I.
that "fancy writing" is Patent No.
it's around 50 dollars in China
Thank you for the video.
I haven't played with a banana before, .... but my girlfriend has. ;)
WJQ-308 wasn't real military shovel, PLA never use it, it's made by a small manufacture in Nanjing and sell to the civilian market. It does the job but not good enough for that price! Chuck Norris carries one in his fanny pack.
u forgot about the Grappling hook batman function !
nah the PLA is not using this. someone on the internet said, they were plan to use this one, but the old one is better, so they didnt change.
We need interwebz more gear videos....
One thing the hammering head is rounded. That is a bit problematic for the hammering.
He says he doesn't like the triangular shaped blade and then says he doesn't like the flat across blade, what does he like?!
ridges
Gear Websites ruffles?
中国的工兵铲在外国这么出名 , 太牛逼了

You forgot to test the shovel part...

This is not that hi tech for chinese army to keep closely guarded secret. Even stealth 5th gen fighter aircraft was put on display and recorded in tv footage

I was hoping you would not let the Beer go to waste.........
Good one
Wow @21:12 the faces of good and evil. Forces of Jedi are at war. is a sign.
I have the Glock e-tool and I wish it had the wire cutter and hammer but I love it. A very good ZRT tool!!! I suspect the a many Chinese Army soldiers used to take this "tool" out to the rice patties with people who spoke out against their their government....
i want to get that russian cold steel shovel.
$80 is way over priced, on taobao (pretty much chinese ebay)its only for 300 RMB,which is about 45 bucks
中国制造 世界无敌 便宜好用 多种多样!
