Sad that most Golgari decks and especially non-hulk Golgari decks have fallen off so hard. Chain of Smog + Witherbloom Apprentice is a really cool combo imo
It definitely is a fantastic combo. The problem I see with it is only that people genuinely hate losing to it. It’s more mana efficient than dualcaster twin flame. I think the stand alone pieces of dual caster twin flame also do more for that 1 extra mana tho
I think dualcaster combo deserves at least top of B tier but realistically bottom of A tier. The opportunity cost for running twinflame and dualcaster is basically nothing, since they're both great cards in most decks, mainly due to dockside. The combo only costs 5 mana which is extremely efficient and both parts are very easy to tutor up.
I might agree it could be placed higher on the list. But just because it is not plan A but more of a slower plan B made me feel like it should be where I kinda placed it. But yes it is a good combo.
Is kinda strange, that doomsday is actually one of the card that introduce me to MTG, I remember that was 12years ago (give or take), I was around 10 years old, searching for how to play world of warcraft tcg, and an article was recommended to me, it was an article about some cards from MTG that has "crazy effects" or the card itself that was crazy. one of the mentioned cards are doomsday, I was really attracted by the card name(it was until today one of the coolest card name one could possess imo) and I took a deeper look into this MTG thingy then the art style of Eldrazi(I think it was rise of eldrazi in the standard) really captures me and lured me into this game. Pity it is not very powerful in cedh.
In decks like Malcolm Tymna you don't really need anything in deck construction for Doomsday anymore except maybe gitaxian probe. It's basically a 1 card combo that works with both those commanders out and UBBB.
Thoughts on Displacer kitten? Talking of most of the combos with it be easiest is definitely trinket mage followed by spellseeker. Personally more a fan of trinket mage lines as it can at least grab a crypt when going off with 0 mana. Spellseeker can run off Probe or the occasional noxious revival but relatively more dead if your stopped from going off. Only issue with running trinket mage is dead card in Elixir
I honestly forgot about that one. I knew when I made the video I would forget about combos. I also forgot about world gorgon combo. But yes that combo should have been mentioned and I think it should be a A tier combo or something. Maybe B but it is really good.
Damn Mask is like a Flash for Thoracle. I've owned one for the longest I just had never found a use. This definitely is a good fit. Especially since instants are a hell of a lot easier to tutor for in blue than creatures.
elesh d naus and peer, are strong cards inside a deck but not combos, you can draw your entire deck and if you dont have a wincon or there is not enought mana you achieve nothing, also im missing some combos like whiterbloom apprentice chain of smog , or darnith possibility storm . I know those are really bad but are combos at the end of the day
Mons, can you consider doing a video on what can broaden the cEDH meta? I have been finding that games are trending heavily towards one of several degenerate strategies (i.e. naus/oracle, commander centric/deterministic combos, extreme stax) without much viable variation.
I think you are a bit harsh on food chain. I can see three reasons for it fall from glory 1) drannith magistrate and 2) lack of a food chain commander that can provide value from the command zone 3) the prevelance of rule of law. However these criticisms can be made for a lot of other combo lines and the difference with food chain is that it can play through a lot stax that of combos can't. It's also very easy to assemble and cheap to cast. It's certainly a better option than a lot of things on your C tier.
There's also rule of law effects and lack of redundancy. My favorite/best performing deck of all time was kraum punch. It didn't need a payoff creature to win as much as it buffed kraum with reyhan to win, at speeds comparable to Ishai/jeska with better colors, less telegraphing, and no dependency on food chain. A recent rule change however, invalidates the combo with reyhan unless one uses a sac outlet, greatly reducing the deck's agility.
I know this is a generic combo list, but where would you place Malcolm-Buccaneer? I think I'd put it at the end of S because it's such an easy and consistent Plan A, but you won't be playing with card advantage in the command zone. Feels like it's just that simple; Tymna is really good.
I was thinking about having dockside up there as a combo. BUt I thought Emiel will be that card instead. and temur cat. But it is also mustly a ritual for the grix decks. Not really all true and clean combo card.
Dockside and cloudstone should be S tier since it dosn't need G/W, requires less mana to start and can play through linvala/totem. It pretty easy to get the other creature required.
B tends to be the "stax" win options. Slower, but you can use them with your stax pieces and still make them work. The S&A-tier stuff gets hated by Rule of Law type of stax, so you dont play them together "usually" (Emil clearly an exception, but could just as well be C tier, its probably just his love for it in Sisay that its A on this list).
I honestly forgot about it. There was a bunch to go over and I just didnt think about it. I guess that really makes it dead ... hahaha. But yeah it is not good. I think the only reason some decks play it is because they dont have better options.
@@cedhtv i think the same, the only decks i put this combo is Anje and Evelyn. And to be honest Evelyn is only for the gimmick of exile the decks, the mains combos is Thoracle and breach freeze.
I was thinking about adding that but it feels a bit commander centric. Like sure it is not actually a commander centric combo but it feels like only a few commanders play it.
Ad naus is an enabler not a combo, same as AR is a finisher, a combo is a combination of cards that enable a board state, same as dark depths+thespian's stage it's a combination of cards but doesn't mean that it's a finisher or a enabler, the finisher in this case is attacking and the enabler could be crop rotation
In cEDH you mostly look at the assemblers. And sure I could have said combos and assemblers in the video title. But I really think Ad naus should be on this list.
@@cedhtv but instead of ad naus and others alike, combos are 2 cards that provide you a W, if you look at it that way then any draw x spells is a combo like worldgorger+animate dead
I've been contemplating what other five color commander I want to play for cedh other than Scion of the Ur-Dragon. I was planning on Kenrith but after seeing your videos over the years, I admit, Sisay has really shown her true colors (yes, pun intended haha)and has become one of my top considerations as well. Watching Sisay gameplay always gets me inspired to the same thing
It won the Most Wanted tournament, and soon will claim all others, the world will bend to it and the disbelievers will be doomed to a sad life of playing mono white!
Ad Naus is not a combo. It’s a combo assembler. Same thing with Necro and PETA. They shouldn’t be here. Birthing Pod is different because it’s actually part of the combo LINE. Ad Naus and such just draw a bunch of cards. Kiki Jiki should be on this list other than just being a part of the Pod line. Also, Notion Thief?? Come on. Control is not a combo😂 Finale of Devastation is not the combo. It’s a tutor to find a combo or as a finisher once you’ve made your combo (infinite mana). Food chain is still a great combo! I’d say S or A tier. Heliod Ballista is C tier because it’s very slow. But walking ballista, like Finale, is a great infinite mana outlet. Hermit Druid isn’t that great anymore. It’s the most telegraphed combo and easily stopped because of removal and things like Endurance. Displacer Kitten needs to be on this list. Iso Rev is not dead either. I know sabertooth and emiel combo with other things than dockside, but dockside should be mentioned more prominently then those. Craterhoof and Elesh Norn are not combos. Just finishers. They are played in winconless Stax decks…meaning they aren’t combos.
Ad Naus is a combo by many standards. You build your whole deck around it and win when you cast it. Same thing with intuition. The term doesn’t really matter anyways, these are all win conditions.
It's pretty clear that he meant for this to be a "Things that win the game" Tier List and he just used combo as an umbrella term for game ending cards/conditions. They are also just his opinions.
Food Chain wins games!
I think the stand alone pieces of dual caster twin flame also do more for that 1 extra mana tho
no protection makes it bad
@Aiviymatoc eh green has some protection but its mostly focused on just against blue
Like that you list Food chain combo as a dead combo when a Rocco player won the Portugal leagues Most Wanted 2nd anniversary with it ;)
But thats more on Rocco that Food chain per se.
I think dualcaster combo deserves at least top of B tier but realistically bottom of A tier. The opportunity cost for running twinflame and dualcaster is basically nothing, since they're both great cards in most decks, mainly due to dockside. It is not useless. I do see it in action sometimes. Like you need to respect it. But it is not the strongest thing you can do in the game.
Dualcaster Mage going infinite with saw in half bumps it up in my mind
Rarely do I successfully cast a food chain and don't win.
In decks like Malcolm Tymna you don't really need anything in deck construction for Doomsday anymore except maybe gitaxian probe.
It's basically a 1 card combo that works with both those commanders out and UBBB.
Witherbloom/Chain of smog???
I honestly forgot about that one. It is not one of the stronger ones so It didn't come to my mind when I made the video list.

I feel like dockside should just have it’s own category. It’s amazing and can combo very easily
Damn Mask is like a Flash for Thoracle. I've owned one for the longest I just had never found a use. This definitely is a good fit. Especially since instants are a hell of a lot easier to tutor for in blue than creatures.

Yes I did forget a bout a few smaller ones like those. They should have been mentioned.
Auriok salvagers is A combo when you play right Commander with it such as thrasios or kenrith.
I know but breach and brain freeze is the same but better that they often choose.
As an advid rocco player I have to say food chain wins games lol. Great video!
Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator + Glint-Horn Buccaneer?
" A tier list of the generic none commander focused combos we have"
what @flewphernegro1516 said.
Where do you put displacer kitten, card is so good?
A! I forgot about it. The cat is super solid.
Bucanier/malcolm tier? Thanks
Where would you rank Clock of Omens combos?
In commander specific. I see it in magda but kinda only there. Not that good.
Mons, can you consider doing a video on what can broaden the cEDH meta? I have been finding that games are trending heavily towards one of several degenerate strategies (i.e. naus/oracle, commander centric/deterministic combos, extreme stax) without much viable variation.
Just ban them
this is vid so nice at 1.75 speed
No WGD combo?
I knew I would forget about some combos and that one I did forget.

Bomberman combo very good in decks like jeska/tymna
How do you forget wrong hulk stickfingers, JK, great video

I think we could put Dockside in S tier.
Just group together the emiel, temur, cloudstone curio, reanimate, etc
I was thinking about having dockside up there as a combo. BUt I thought Emiel will be that card instead. and temur cat. But it is also mustly a ritual for the grix decks. Not really all true and clean combo card.

I know it's dead but i want to see you talk about it.
I honestly forgot about it. There was a bunch to go over and I just didnt think about it. I guess that really makes it dead ... hahaha. But yeah it is not good. I think the only reason some decks play it is because they dont have better options.

Abdel Adrian? It's a fine successor.
I’ve seen a number of games end with Ashaya combos. Honestly not that good, but maybe deserves a C tier slot
I was thinking about adding that but it feels a bit commander centric. Like sure it is not actually a commander centric combo but it feels like only a few commanders play it.
Pod should be A. It is special, since it is lower risk than transformation and at the same time a 1 spell combo (rol).
Curiosity combo not CEDH worthy anymore ?
That is a commander centrick combo with niv mizzet. I only went over the generic ones. If I would go over all COMBOS this video would be really long.
you should be elaborating on isochron scepter. There is no combo that goes with it that is a true combo/wincon.
dramatic reversal and scepter makes infinit mana.

@Casper MTG in what way? I'm talking that ad naus is a card that gives and advantage but not a combo
"S" for Sisay!
"S" for ThaSsa's Oracle
"F" for Food Chain
S! is 100% for sisay!

Missing Freed From the Real.
Your vids are great, but your takes are all over the place.
They are just my opinions of what I find strong. It is absolutely up for debate.
Food Chain is best combo, and all those who disagree are spreading false propaganda
Stay strong. Never give up.

Elesh Norn combos with Living plane, and a few other cards, resulting in debilitating board States.
This list is so wrong.
