  • This video covers a trip to fish the Welsh Dee at Llandderfel for grayling with my friend Graham. He'd not fished the Bala Angling Club's beat so most of the day was spent showing some of my preferred spots and how I fish them. Tight-line (Euro) nymphing proved the best approach and this produced some beautiful grayling.

Always a pleasure to watch fishing when you can't get out but it would be more interesting and informative if you showed and explained the rig and flies used, the depths and spacing of the flies and the weights. What rod and leader was employed and the indicator employed. I wonder if you could get a closer shot of the indicator showing the bite. How close to you was the other angler? Were you moving up-stream or downstream between casts? Keep up the good work Andrew. Tight Lines, Iain Fraser.

It hard to get closer to the indicatior with the camera set up I have but when the light it right you can see it. My default leader set up, is 4ft of 4lb fluorocarbon the n add 2 droppers 18” apart. That day I fished a tungsten rig fly on the point and a size 16 copper beaded hares ear on the middle dropper and a #18 quill nymph on the top. Most fish were caught on the Hares Ear.

Who’s water is that and how much searching before you found the shoal?

Bala and District Angling association and can be fished on a day ticket. Not the beat holds plenty of grayling.
