- Why these 5 Ghostbusters: Afterlife scenes that NO ONE is talking should be highlighted. Plus I have obtained exclusive never before seen trailer footage from the international trailer. I've been a huge Ghostbuster fan since I was 4 when the original movie came out. Sonce having kids, I've introduced them to the beloved Ghostbusters and they too have fallen in love with the movies and the original cast of characters. We anxiously await the new Ghostbuster Afterlife movie in 2020.

So, the children that move into the house are actually Egon's grandchildren, if you see in the basement Egon studies molds and spores, if we see in the basement there are molds and spores. And there are those perfectly stacked books in the house, also relating to when they were in the library. And Phoebe also slides down a pole to go down in the well, like the one in the Ghostbusters movie when they slide down the fire pole. And Egon was also researching Shandor mines hence the house in the middle of nowhere. Egon also states that he had a farmhouse in Ohio, which is probably where they are. And if we see when Phoebe pulls out the suits the first one that shows up is, "Spangler". Which is Egon's suit name. NOTE: These are just MY things I found in the trailer, I'm so excited to see the movie come out!

While it’s pretty clear that they’re related to Egon, the timeline doesn’t work. Egon didn’t have kids in 1989’s Ghostbusters 2. So ok, maybe he had a daughter that year. But Finn Wolfhard is 17. So, his mom (Egon’s daughter) would have to have had him when she was 13?

I think in the Ghostbusters universe, they kept Ecto-1 in the barn as a backup car when they upgraded to Ecto-1A. So they have two Ectomobiles. Maybe the original Ghostbusters will come to the rescue in Ecto-1A. That would be awesome!

@@rioharjuno If they forgot to explain that when they shot the movie, they can fix it with some type of voiceover or pick up shot. They should explain it because it would help determine if GB2 is still canon.
@@RommelAndaya my thoughts exactly.. kinda weird to have the Ecto1A "downgraded" back to Ecto1 without the GB2 logo & LED lights as seen in the 2nd movie & for what purpose? It will be like changing the movie version of the USS Enterprise back to the TV series version..
Something for you I found, when the teacher says "who are you" and the girl is looking through the old uniforms, she stops at spengler, but it cuts off to another scene. I slowed it down and it seems her grandfather was spengler. Also, she wears glasses like the one she wore.

More than likely it's still in the basement of "The Firehouse" aka Ghostbusters HQ. It's not a portable device. It needs a lot of power too. I doubt I need to quote the movie, but can if needed.

@@QuestionDeca who says it got sold? The city might have just taken it. Sure in the new movie they say there hasn't been a ghost seen in 30 years. But that doesn't equal that they sold the firehouse. New York City could have taken it over as appreciation to let them retire. Until it's said what happened in NYC. I will believe my theory.
@@shaunstancombe9867 Considering they've never been the most financially stable group, if they thought they were going to lose it anyways you bet Venkmann at least would try to sell it. Even if the City just took it, why would the City of New York pay for the operation of something somebody like Walter Peck would insist on being shut down and a scam (guy came back in the games as the head of a department made to "regulate" the Ghostbusters just to have a better excuse to shut them down).

Talk about it ma brother! First thing I noticed was how that kid looks like a young Egon. It's just enough: not blatantly done, it's made me genuinely happy. I'm so excited for this. The trailer alone went a long way to redeeming themselves after 2016

Someone from the movie confirmed that it was another car they found and turned into the one with the gunner seat. And the house wasn't Ray's (he was born in the Bronx). It's assumed Egon bought it while he was researching Shandor Mines. He then left it to Callie and her kids, his grandkids.
Another possibility (since they probably have more than one car available; most movies do) is that they found a closely similar model & modified it. Much cheaper!
@@Caseytify I watched a whole thing that Jason Reitman said that this was IN FACT a REAL 1959 Cadillac Ambulance they found and did ALOT of work on it to get it to this point! He said they put a "CORVETTE" Engine in it to get to be able to TEAR ASS around the wheat field and the town!
What I remembered in the Ghostbusters 1984 movie the Ecto 1A was a modified version from the Ghostbusters 2 car. They probably changed the engine from the original to an LS1 engine to make it faster.
Ray was born in New Jersey.
Afterlife takes place in Okalhoma, I believe.

My only advice is to pay high respect and reverence to the Ghostbusters Universe (Parts 1 & 2, to better understand this 3rd part). When you continue to speak of the characters from the first 2 films, just continue to show the same love for them that you've shown here (Even for the biggest bad guy of them all "Gozer the Gozarian" and his 2 Terror Dogs).

There are pictures of the set with two different ecto-1 cars. The "new" ecto one was moded with a powerful new motor. The original restored unit was not used on this 3rd movie.

Love this finally someone else who has picked up on this... Ive also saw a few other things that I'm questioning about too... 1, when you see the family turn up to the farm house for the first time there are 3 very oddly shaped metal containers in the back... Now is this a new containment systems or am I looking too much into it...
2... When Finns character is on the mining lift... For me that looks a little too new /old but not 1927 old... Could of egon been doing some exploring of his own...
3rd and last one when mckeena and her friend are walking to the mine the gate looks very much like something has broken free... Could the terror dog been released already...

I just got back from seeing the new Ghostbusters movie and it reminded me why I love Ghostbusters in the first place. I'm such a big fan, I'm one proton pack away from being a Ghosthead.
The car used in the movie may not necessarily be a 1959 MM combo. The 1960 is close enough to make identical with mininum work, even less in clapped out condition. It may also be a converted ambulance or hearse. It may also be a modded Caddy from any of the other companies that made '59 or '60 combo's hearse or ambulances.
The "DIRT" is intriguing, but I think it probably refers to the mine, as in "there's something in the dirt."

I think that Paul Rudd's character is Oscar (Dana's son). They haven't mentioned Paul Rudd's character's first name or Oscar's dad's name in GB2.
I think you are onto something here! Only the kids first names are mentioned. Paul rudds character only has a last name "gooberson" (oscars mom was a total goober, and if rick moranis character took the role of the father, goober x2).
All the other listed characters have first and last names.
Oscar was blond though....

There's a theory backed up by Sigourney Weaver that Oscar's father was "the stiff" in GBI & his surname was Wallance. It would make more sense for Oscar to become a musician than a seismologist.

In terms of ECTO-1 being roughed up, I've had one of my own cars used on a TV show before now and it's amazing how much they can do to make a fully restored, concourse condition car look 30,40,50 years old with all kinds of little tricks that they ultimately just wash off afterwards.
Of course, there's always the possibility one of the original cars was vinyl wrapped to make it look more dilapidated too 👍

The car used for the movie was a made up ecto, if u compare both cars theres slight differences.. they actually had two on set one u see In the trailer and the other had a modified roof rack that u could drive from the roof, they mostly used it for the stunts got to see most of the filming they did in my hometown

Well, I’m from Alberta Canada. Ghostbusters: Afterlife was shot around Southern Alberta. It actually got close to my hometown about 30 minutes west in a town Called Fort McLeod. One scene that involved the car where they blast this sign called “Empress Theatre” is a historic landmark. I think it’s in Wikipedia, don’t quote me on it. Definitely looking forward to my backyard be showcased. From what I got from some new interviews, they have taken care of how this story transitions from the original. Even though the trailer had no real reference to the second movie, I do hope there is something there in the next trailer. Wouldn’t be surprised if that came towards the end of the year seeing it was pushed back to March next year.

What toy? My Ecto-1 had a seat on the roof for some reason and only the front 2 doors and the rear door opened. Only 2 Ghostbusters could sit inside. You must be thinking of the TMNT Van that did have a gunners seat on the side that swung out.

Ecto 1A was stripped down and used for this film. They also purchased second 1959 Caddy Amb for the film. Likely one is a hero car and the other a camera rigged car

What I want to know is what happened to Ecto-1A’s paint job and all the other modifications that were added to it in the 2nd movie? Did Egon just decide to remove the Ghostbuster 2 logo and restore it back to how it was in the original film? What’s the in universe answer as to why the car looks like the one from the first film and not from the 2nd? Since the 2nd film is more recent, it would follow that it would have kept the yellow police tape lining across the sides as the slogan with the phone number on the side. Very curious about this.
They were to separate vehicles. Ecto 1 was stored in the barn and ECTO 1A was a different Ecto.
Probably they bought a new car for ecto-1A

They might have a laser-scanned replica of the Ecto-1. Speedkore already made a carbon-fibre 1970 charger with zero original charger parts. Who says that this movies production team can't do that same

Hi there, for starters such a great video, lot's of good points. I think I hopefully have an answer for you regarding the use of the ECTO 1 and it's appearance in the new film. My father worked on a team of effects co-coordinators for Columbia Pictures from the late 70's - early 90's and he had friends who worked on the Ghostbusters projects, sadly he was working on some other TV projects in the 1983/1984 era and wasn't hired for those films. However, while I was growing up, some friends of my dad's that also worked for Columbia who did in fact assist certain phases of production on GB 1 & 2 had at some point told us that they had something like 3 or 4 of those cars for the first movie that were used for different production units (those cars may have been more available at that time 35 years ago). 1 of which was the HERO car that was used for the shots of it all fixed up and driving through the streets at the point in the film when they were becoming famous and picking up heavy business, the HERO car was used in both films and probably is the car which Dan was showing on Jay Leno. There was also a reinforced stunt car which is funny because they never really had any action scenes with the car, I'm not sure why they had it, my guess is that there must have originally been some type of action sequences planned for the car, possible an early version of the gunner seat, probably with Stay Puffed or something during the final phase of the film which never was shot or just didn't make it into the final cut. Lastly they had a "beater" version which was a junk pile, it didn't run and I think it was missing seats and some mechanics to it, which they used for the earlier phases of the film when Dan Aykroyd is working on the car in the Dana Barrett introduction scenes. My guess would be that Columbia must have kept at least 1 or 2 due to the rarity that you mention in your video, perhaps as refits for other films? as we must not forget that fans loves these things and cringe at their destruction, where as studios see them as old props taking up real-estate on a back lot somewhere and either auction them off or retrofit them for other films if they're still usable after production. That makes me wonder how many famous cars movies fans have seen over and over again and not known it because it looks totally different in am unrelated film. Being that this new film feels very connected to the originals, it would be my guess that some of the same production unit, second unit and executive level folks who are still active in the business and worked on the original films are involved in this new one. I would bet that they had Columbia dig around on the lot and the archives to find as many original props as they could. Also these props are usually made to only last during production and a lot of times are just tossed after, I KNOW SAD RIGHT???? lol film geeks would give anything to have them lol. So in closing the stunt car is most likely what was used in the new film as it seems like it's going to have a lot of action (based on the trailer) or being Columbia, they may have put a call out for a duplicate car, however I tend to agree with you that it seems unlikely the studio would spend that kind of money if they had one left at the studio somewhere. I hope this helps!
Now that the movie has been released and I've seen it for myself, I can indeed confirm the car they used is the stunt car. There's tons of scenes in the movie involving the car that would absolutely trash it otherwise, so it's most definitely the stunt car.

There has been an ECTO-1 sitting out in the open on the Sony lot for many years. The 2016 version was set out behind it later.

According to the ghost busters 2 novelized version. The ecto 1a is a completely new vehicle. In that respect the old one was probably put in storage at that point. A deleted scene of gb2 a possessed ray crashes the ecto 1 a. For the movie production what you said is supposedly what happened. They removed all the ecto 1a equipment and put the ecto 1 original equipment on.
Ecto in the new movie is in fact ecto 1a from ghostbusters 2 sony pulled it from storage refurbed it with a ls1 engine and put it in the new movie confirmed by a article found in hemmings motor news

If you really think about it. All the equipment stored: uniforms, books, spore mold and fungus collection, the ghost trap and the proton packs...the Ecto-1.
Then there's the mine, the amount of ghosts that are suddenly in this town and how it keeps shaking, the fact that the Keymaster and Gatekeeper seem to be there (has nobody noticed Slimer at the beginning of the trailer?)
The farm itself was a new HQ. All the ghosts they ever caught are stored down in that mine because it was the new containment unit away from civilization and it's failing and the ghosts are escaping!
One thing no one has actually talked about and that is... Where has Egon suddenly gained a family and how does this fit in the timeline? (Yes they could explain it in the film but to actually think about it beforehand) I would understand them being his Sister's family and they are the only family left for his will. But to be his own flesh and blood has got me worried. I get the tribute to Harold but this has to be carefully explained without cocking up the timeline or making him out to be a bad father.
Ok I don't wanna give away to much, **Spoiler Alert**.. do not read this please.... Egon and Janine hooked up in the first, 2nd movie and tv show.. 2nd all of the movies are link up in this along with the cartoon, tv shows, and video game.. 3rd they fig out a way to transfer the containment unit, in fact certain metals nm I've said too much..
I-45 toward Houston, TX....not sure exactly where, but I remember seeing at least a Replica Ecto-1 in someone’s country home backyard....so could be that one too 🤷🏼♂️

dj jay sky the gunner seat was fitter to chase the dirt eels in the next movie "afterlife" makes me think young Egon cgi cameo (Egons the new slimer) he gets sucked into a trap with shandors ghost and the trap gets hidden under the floor and paul rudd opens it by accident (in the trailer) then slimer (Egon) becomes the kids friendly ghost like the cartoon but next generation
When we see the Ecto 1 license plate, the shot mimics the garage door opening in the first movie ... but the garage door in this trailer looks WAY too new to be on that dilapidated barn. What if the scene with the license plate is merely a fake scene used just for this trailer, and this movie’s car is actually named something different (e.g., Ecto 1B or 1C), but they’re saving that info for the movie?
Interesting take. Another note is ecto 1b has already been used in the Ghostbusters video game that came out in 2009.

It's another car - probably a kit car looking at the panels on it & the gunner seat is a throw back to the old KENNER toy.
This trailer honestly reminds me of Super Metroid’s opening: hear me out. Anyone who is a fan of the Metroid franchise will recall that Super Metroid, after the initial Ridley fight, moves to planet Zebes, the same planet in the original video game. Rather than using this intro as a means of establishing nostalgia, it kinda does the opposite. It shows just how much time has passed, establishing a haunting atmosphere, passing through empty, creepy halls that Samus Aran has already been through are deserted, dust creeps across them and their only inhabitants are vermin that scatter as she draws near. It’s quiet, and there’s a sense of isolation. I’m hoping that the kids start finding this stuff, they piece together the clues and fight the emerging threat, but their lack of knowledge of this stuff combined with them just being kids slowly wears away at them. Then, when all Hope seems lost, the Ecto-1A pulls up, and the OG team shows up. They are old now, their bodies wracked with age, but their spirits are still strong. They rally the kids, teach them, and the kids who had been using more passion than knowledge are now armed with the wisdom of their forebears, and overcome the threat. Paul Rudd becomes the de Facto leader of a new group, while the kids... are just kids. They now understand the tech and ghostbusting, but they’re too young to combat the coming storm, and so they can have other adventures, but they have a lot to learn and a long way to go. So does Paul Rudd, but he now has direct ties to his childhood heroes.
One thing they don’t talk about is the smectral book staking
I like to think that the gunner seat didn't originally start off as a gunner seat but an easier way for Egon to movie around in his later years; being around whatever he was investigating near the Shandor Mining Company could've made him sick and he needed to move around with his equipment. What better way than with Ecto 1? He could have also had someone drive him around that left shortly after he passed.

I have very fond memories of the first "Ghostbusters" movie when it first came out, and I saw it seven times in the theater that year. It is my second favorite movie after "Raiders of the Lost Ark" which is my all time favorite (I saw Raiders 11 times in the theater in 1981). Both movies came out at the right time for me as a kid. Do you remember the Ray Parker Jr. video which has the original cast in it along with a plethora of cameos.
Yes, I just watched that video the other day with my kids. Love the cameos in Times Square.
Another thing I noticed I haven’t heard anyone mention yet, is the piano notes just as Jason Reitman’s name is revealed...is a nod to the two piano notes Venkman plays at Dana’s apartment. “They hate this”

I remember going to Hollywood Studios in like 1992(?) I believe and they had a stunt car of ECTO-1 that was used in the first GB movie on the stunt set. The lights worked and everything and it was a beater. Might be that car. It looked like the condition in the trailer.
Nobody has talked about the garage door... the ECTO-1 is supposedly in that barn, the barn is about to collapse in on itself, and yet... it has a pristine white roll up door...🤔

This ecto 1 is a different build. There was 2 built for this movie- combination of parts and a HD pick up truck -
Both have 2020 ecto's have a 17" 8 lug wheel - and if you watch the video where the right rear wheel hubcap is removed and exposed the floating axle. This is normally used on 2500/3500 trucks and suburbans. Also I read that the installed a LT 1 engine to perform better in the stunt scenes .
Prior to this movie (3) Ecto's existed - and are original 59' Caddy MM- which accommodate 5 lug wheels / 15" rim wheels -

Was the books stacked up in the scene when they run under the table been covered by anyone yet? They are stacked up like the books at the library in the first movie in the beginning.

also there is loads of things next to the barn used to conduct electricity, those 2 white things behind the blue car look interesting. maybe been trying to harness the supernatural power like the building did the original. all the power cables are down.
Others have mentioned the keys . I don’t think dirt eels will appear in the movie. I think the school bus scene is a result of some kind of paranormal explosion
alex Garton dirt eels shandors guard dogs so to speak Egon and Ray take on Shandor and Egon gets sucked into a trap with Shandor and Ray hides the trap under the floor and Paul Rudd opens it by accident and lets Shandor Egon the eels and more out and Egon becomes the new Slimer and helps the kids like in the 80s cartoon thats my theory and i cant wait to be proven wrong

I doubt this was there house Ray was raised in. With his interest in the paranormal and the town mine connected to Gozer worshippers he wouldn't have needed to investigate into gozers history after associating Dana's apartment. I think Egon and the others relocated here after ghosts were eradicated to be close to things they were working on
It's just as plausible that the studio had a custom car shop build another one, but that would have been expensive too.
I know there is an Ecto 1 on display at Sony Studios. Could that be 1A restored?

I always thought ECTO-1A was the same car and they changed the plate because it was upgraded. But the new film having the ECTO-1 instead is confusing. I'm wondering if in this 'universe' Ghostbusters II didn't happen.
@@notabot803 I hope that's not the case. I could understand them retconning the canonicity of the video game, but it would be really shitty to just pretend that Ghostbusters 2 didn't exist.
