      MJ2KALLDAY i mean, idk. he was eh on the hawks and they didn’t really have any alphas. he did amazing with tmac, and he isn’t an alpha at all, so idk :/ i think it’s more his work ethic

    Dwight was the best pick and roll center in the league, who stopped running pick and roll because Shaq said that's all he could do -_- That's the long and short of it.
    Dwight was a dominant force as a pick and roll center, who then decided he wanted to be the next Hakeem instead to prove to Shaq and "the world" that he had more to his game.
    That's why it also didn't work on the Lakers and why he pissed Steve Nash off. Nash was the best pick and roll point guard in the league, Dwight was the best pick and roll center in the league, Mike freaking D'Antoni the pick and roll king was coaching. You'd assume it'd be a match made in heaven.
    But Dwight decided "nah I don't wanna do pick and roll."... that's why it reached a head in the Miami game with Nash yelling at Dwight and raging at a teammate in a way I'd never seen Steve Nash do.
    Then in season 3 with the Rockets he "doesn't want to run pick and roll" anymore -_- and was soon gone from there too.
    Dwight's problem has always been between the ears, the moment he let that go and realized what he was and finally accepted it, he suddenly is playing effectively again... imagine that.
    If he'd figured that out 5 years ago, he'd probably have a ring by now.

    Dwight has actually revived his career the moment that he realized and accepted that he's no longer the superstar he once was.

    • @AndyHoops
      @AndyHoops  6 років тому +166

      Yeah Dwight's been pretty good recently. I think in his last two seasons in Houston, he just hasn't accepted yet that he was no longer a superstar, and his back/knee injuries slowed him down a lot too

    • @ballinboxer3676
      @ballinboxer3676 6 років тому +53

      Andy Hoops Yup and i cant blame him. Years of being the man in Orlando. 1 horrible season with an injury riddled Lakers team. He was eager to prove in Houston that he still has "it". Then at the age of 29/30 years, at the last years of his prime, was only being used as a lob target, rebounder and a shot blocker. Not surprisingly, it's being crazy consistent (albeit he's blocking way less shots now) at those 3 aspects of the game that has kept him in the league.

    Fans killed Dwights career. As soon as Kobe said something the fans jumped right on board. All he ever gets is hate and never any love for the things he does. He is still top 5 in rebounding, but looks very uninterested on the court. The passion is gone and that left after his last home team the Rockets started to give him hate. You can tell he can still kill a team when he wants like when he plays his former teams his stats are real good. People need to stop hating on everything and appreciate more. Not just to dwigjht to players like Curry and Lebron. You can't deny they're good just because you hate them for no good reason.

      What does MDA have to do with Howard leaving? Howard was past his prime right before he left Houston. The reason why he left was because his chemistry with Harden was never there and he was offered more money in the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.

      kx smoove Dwight understands his role now, so he's fine. I always thought that he should've focused more on rebounding and defending anyway because post play is limited in today's league and he isn't a skilled enough scorer to get 20-30 every night like the post players in the past. Plus, most of these Bigs now shoot jumpers.

    I wonder about the "dwight not liking pick n roll". Thats where hes most effective... he really had a lackluster, very rudimentary post game. Face up jab, bump and right baby hook. Or spin and dunk. He scored a lot of easy points in the pick n roll. Plus he was quite turnover prone in the post

    The Rockets just replaced Dwight with a younger version of Dwight in Capela, while the Lakers in the 2013 off season replaced Dwight with an older and battered version in Chris Kaman, but D'Antoni wasn't good also he wouldn't been head coach if it wasn't for Nash being there and Kobe having praise for him, D'Antoni wasn't good for the Knicks, D'Antoni is good right now because of Harden and CP3, D'Antoni was good because of Nash in Phoenix. Have to say Dwight isn't great with his coaching system and that's why he left LA and Houston.

    howard is shaq. the problem with the locker room stuff was, harden was looking for someone to help guide him, and dwight was going to do that but he wanted to be the man, and also when he gave advice because of the extremity of the scrutiny harden was under and all the other stuff it was just a storm if things.
    i remember one instance in particular howard said they are the two main pieces and the others are role players, no one said anything. then harden repeated it and everyone blew up at harden.

    I think the bigest reason howard is this because of the lakers trade if he hadnt build too much expectations to kobe then he could have rested a bit instead of playing even though he had back injury this would zap him of his athleticism if it werent for fans pressuring his ass and if he was just a little more confident then he still might be great....

    Rockets made a mistake with signed Howard. They had Ömer aşık and he is the type of center harden want. He is great pick and roll player he didn't want to ball his hands he is great offensive rebounder he is great rim protector. Rockets need one more great shooter like korver and role players. If he did that they could be a champion.

    It wasn’t age w Howard. He was still relatively young and in his prime years especially for a center. It was his back problems that started w his injury last year in ORL that did him in. He wasn’t the same after that. He had a bounce back year his first year in HoU after healing from his surgery but never got back to his DOPY years. But like an old Ali he still thought he was that guy wanting the ball in the post.

    While it may be true that Dwight wanted more post touches during his time in Houston, I don't get where everyone is stating he REFUSED to play pick n roll because of it. I watched his last season with houston. He was very inefficient in the post then, but after they stopped feeding him there, all he did was pick n roll. He may not have loved it, but he did in fact play pick n roll to the tune of 14ppg for the rest of the season. I agree that Shaq's comments on his lack of postgame probably did affect him negatively and that he probably was the source of locker room drama, but let's not pretend he refused to contribute, or was absolute trash in his actual play. He ran the pick n roll all game with james pretty well all three years.
    The only time Dwight's post game was strong was the first year in the playoffs against the Blazers where ironically, Harden played terribly for 5/6 games. Howard averaged 27 & 13 or something that whole series, largely as a mix of postups and pick n roll.

    Never understood why Dwight doesn't like pick and roll plays, it's perfect for quick, athletic big men without post-up game. You run that on offense and save energy for defense, where as a three time consecutive defensive player of the year Dwight should have excelled.

  • @BC21beats
    @BC21beats 6 років тому

    it always befuddles me on why howard was so against playing the pick n roll. Being an undersized (height wise) athletic center play pick n roll with harden should've maximized his athleticism he never had good post moves and once his back got hurt he got even stiffer in the post

    In Orlando Dwight wasn’t a post up threat, he was never that, Dwight was a pick and roll center. That wasn’t a problem until he took one of Shaq’s nicknames and Shaq started criticizing him for having no post game, saying that to be a great big man you have to dominate in the post. Ever since then all Dwight wants to do is post up, badly.

    The biggest problem was dwight was making 20 million dollars at a time when only Lebron Kobe joe Johnson and melo were making that kind of money. And as the nba style was changing fast, he was the only one that can’t pass dribble or shoot. Just athletic, phased out like d rose.

  • @Unconvinced1
    @Unconvinced1 6 років тому

    The problem was Harden showed he could lead this team and Deight comes in then they give him the keys to the car but dwight didn’t prove anything before he was crowned the king. Houston said you did good in Orlando so we don’t even have to see you play before we divide your the man on this team. Even tho harden just had a top 10 player type season at 23.
