- I discuss the pros and cons with the different bafang motor mid-drives (bbs01, bbs02 and bbshd) to help you choose the right motor to buy!
An electric bicycle (e-bike, eBike, etc.) is a motorized bicycle with an integrated electric motor used to assist propulsion. Many kinds of e-bikes are available worldwide, but they generally fall into two broad categories: bikes that assist the rider's pedal-power (i.e. pedelecs) and bikes that add a throttle, integrating moped-style functionality. Both retain the ability to be pedaled by the rider and are therefore not electric motorcycles. E-bikes use rechargeable batteries and typically are motor-powered up to 25 to 32 km/h (16 to 20 mph). High-powered varieties can often travel more than 45 km/h (28 mph).
E-bike use is growing in some markets, as they are seen as an eco-friendly and healthy alternative to cars, fossil fuel-powered mopeds and small motorcycles, and a less physically intense alternative to conventional bicycles.
Depending on local laws, many e-bikes (e.g., pedelecs) are legally classified as bicycles rather than mopeds or motorcycles. This exempts them from the more stringent laws regarding the certification and operation of more powerful two-wheelers which are often classed as electric motorcycles, such as licensing and mandatory safety equipment. E-bikes can also be defined separately and treated under distinct electric bicycle laws. In UK legislation the vehicles are called electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPC), in EU legislation electrically power assisted cycles (EPAC).

I've been putting BBS02's on DH mountain bikes since 2015 to build as trail bikes. I've found 750W to be sufficient. I typically run a 36t "narrow-wide" chain ring w/ 10spd cassette and Shimano clutch derailleur. I definitely recommend Bafang products. Mid-drive is where it's at for bikes with rear suspension. I wouldn't put the weight of a hub motor on a "swingarm" but Bafang hub motors are great too. 👌
yeah 750w is mega powerful too
definitely the new torque sensing M435 possibly the M635.
tuning requires the BESST tool though, but boy are these motors a game changer once the torque sensor is properly tuned
im using a 52v with a BBS02, and its more powerful than 48v
I can't wait to get the bbshd with the biggest battery. i will make a commuter .
Definetly will build a bbshd on my next full suspension bike, geared hub, on a 52v system.
sounds very nice!!!
Ull love it i used it for like 3-4 years now.
But its limited to 27 km/h
I love it
My advice is to get the smallest motor the 300 Watt motor with the biggest battery. Less wear on a bikes drive train. I commute thirty foor miles a day on a Giant Quick E with a 250 Watt motor. I can cruise along at 41 to 43 kilometres per hour. You drain battery cycles less as well.
depends on how much oomf you want :)))
Makes sense. I like to pedal too.
thanks for the info my daughter has the bbs 01 with 48v battery on her bike and she loves it .i have a full suspension with a bbshd ill be finishi g very soon .i think it will be the right bike for me .i have a 1500w hub kit on a voodoo canzo ,which is pretty fast on the flat (40mph)but lacks a little uphill .a stealth bomber clone that is 72v 80 smp and is a bit heavy and faster than needed ,also attracts too much attention. and a 72v 60 amp hub motor setup on a specialised hardtail which im building atm too .bad idea i think its going to be rediculous .
Blablabla... my bbs02b works perfectly with a Samsung 1040wAh 52v 20A battery pack ! Controller is compatible but you must choose the right display 52v compatible.
My 02 is running on 52 volts, out of the box.
My HD also runs on 52 volts but with an aftermarket controller runs 50 amps (more about towing torque than top speed). I don't get bothered because I don't ride it like a goon. If you're not behaving like an idiot the police have more important concerns.
My motors have similar cabling.
I'm a big heavy guy who has a big heavy dual susp. bike. It took about 30 seconds for me to spec the HD with a big batt. Torque sensing is a nice luxury, but not essential.
You are obviously a Bafang motor fan, but what are your thoughts on the Anando motors? Thanks 😊
The bbs02 info says its not 52v compatible BUT all the guys who work on them say it is,ie johnnynerdout
It's not officialy compatible but works. Voltage limit of internal capacitors is 60V.
@@Hadroncollider_Ive got one and works fine
Isnt it possible to buy certain versions from aliexpress that are 52v?? But isnt it not official?
thank you
because that what i search on youtube : Best bafang 250 KIT
yeah 250w 48v bbs01 is really good for 250w
I live in the US. My son is a cop. The police here will never mess with you on an ebike unless you are causing problems.
hahaha xDDD
That is total nonsense.
different for different areas .im in the uk and i ride pretty fast 40mph on my 1500w kit at 52v 26 amps .but ibarely ride my stealth bomber 5000w as its asking for hassle .it seems some bikes like stealth bombers and surrons etc are targeted .because the riders are usually pulling wheelies and ride like nutcases .like you said .
Driving while black is a myth then?
yes@@legalalien2923
BBSHD 1400 watt ! if you want torque power speed ! Mine does 61 clicks 48 volt running 54.6 battery and a 58.8 battery ! 30 amp controller 8 speed ! throttle and pedal sensor dual suspension ! MID DRIVE ONLY ! Thank you ! BBSHD all day !
Australia allowed ! 48 volt running with 54.6 and 52v ,58.8 battery straight on no problems ! The others are pissy slow and not strong ! New one cant program ! Bought 2 old ones the best for diy use and POWER SPEED ! Lekie all ! Its messy if you have 2 left hands ! Or you can't do the job ! In that case shop and get ripped off ! Thank you !
Bbshd rocks man 🤙
BBSHD!!! NOW SOON TONGSHENG TSDZ2ABCD
@@voltvehiclesIs that true?😮
None of these are torque-sensing, are they?
The Bafang rear hub 750 so you can easily do service by your self !!!
Bbshd 1to1 works great
yeah that thing is a beast, do you mean with single speed?
Got mine set up on a single free wheel get about 41 mph running 30 amps across the board
Do Bafang motors really affect the right side crank (chainring side) by leaving it one inch farther once the motor is installed?
I saw a review of a welder who fitted the 750w kit, and that's what he said. It was giving him hip pain when riding the bike since the crank on the right side was too far to the right.
It comes with spacers. Your friend should have used the spacers to align his chainring and avoid the hip pain.
My bbshd was ordered specifically for my bottom bracket size and it is centered well with no spacers.
It's the reason so many conversions use Leki chainrings and asymmetric crank arms.
hmm, for a bottom bracket of 68mm and 72mm I have never had issues, but as Luke says, spacers could be required with big bottom bracket sizes
leki is too overpriced bro XD
Bosch Motors swell up my knees, never had any problem in my life ... installed a bafang, Knee problems completely gone.
Why is it so difficult to get the prices of these motors?!
What do you mean?
Здравствуйте скажите пожалуйста кто нибудь знает про хороший смазку для мотот BBS hd ,
Interesting, do I detect a Southeast Asian accent tinted with a bit of Welsh?
No
@@MetalFan10101 Ok, thanks for the thought-provoking interaction.
@@MetalFan10101 and jagshemash.
???????????? You need hearing lessons
@@voltvehicles Ok, I guess that's a no...thank you for your constructive and respectful interaction as well. Just thought your speech patterns sounded interesting and took a guess.
You play eve???
Yee 😀
Nobody in the US knows or gives a fuck how many watts your ebike motor is.
Really? Thats very cool, I might move there LOLOLOL
Some bodies had a bad day ,sounds like they got watt restrictions in America!
How come you only have 1tits? What happened to the other one?
speech lessons...
dumb head lessons...
Fortunately I am an instructor for all of these lessons. Which ones would you guys like to sign up for and what is your schedule like?
@@AdamSmith-fe9jf
I learned the hard way, speech recognition. A year+ of very short notes on a voice recorder, instantly played back so I could hear what I sound like. Then re-recorded until satisfied.
One of the weirdest things... Modern voice recorders make erasing the last recording way too difficult!
@@OrdinaryMike This is a very interesting topic. Are you essentially saying you have achieved manual manipulation of your own voice and speech through trials of recording and playback and your speech has now permanently remained in a state that is satisfactory to you without the need to consciously make an effort to do so as it now comes naturally?
@@AdamSmith-fe9jf
I'm not sure...
I wouldn't say permanently. I just learned to annunciate well enough to use speech recognition, using that method. My ears also learned how to tell the difference between good and bad speech from other people. It took years. But I can still slur words perfectly well when I'm not trying hard. Sometimes it's a wonder how speech recognition understands what I just said. They use context a lot. That's why single word utterances are very difficult. But that makes using single and double syllable words very effective for scripts instead of dictation.
