Shoutout to the enemy mid ‘zezima’ a true legend
i build fimbulwinter on galio together with RoA. what people overlook often is that fimbulwinters shield is CURRENT mana. so if you're low mana your shield is essentially non existent. RoA gives u mana back for damage taken. together with Galio taunt, that equals full mana all day and big shields all day plus i'm guaranteed to have my shield tank the damage as they're taunted. together with frozenheart and spirit visage, practically unkillable and the build is really cheap. buy tear and then rush your RoA, you can also just sit on catalyst component as it has the same passive required to make it work.
What is the full runes and build? Also, you running this top or mid?
@ao8749 I mostly enjoy playing it top right now but it also works mid however if you are the only AP on the team it's obviously not as effective, hence tanky toplane works better for me. You can run two setups but my main one is: Ghost/TP Sorcery: Phase rush, manaflow band, transcendence and gathering storm Resolve: Revitalize and from the second tier you can take any depending on the matchup, if i'm into an AD bruiser i'll take boneplating but into something like a teemo i'll take second wind. Starter items doran's ring 90% time, usually dorans shield into ranged matchups. Double adaptive and health scaling rune. Gathering storm can be swapped with scorch or waterwalking I suppose but I really want that extra AP to kick in so my damage doesn't fall off to hard (Galio has high AP ratios so benefits a lot from this scaling rune). if you run it midlane i'd take aftershock, demolish, second wind and revitalize with nimbus cloak and gathering storm and take flash ignite. Or even swap it around and take comet if u want the extra poke. Even Guardian works midlane if you have a hard carry jungler / toplane with tons of damage since Revitalize scales with guardian and it really helps out in those early skirmishes for objectives to keep your jungler alive. try it out and see what works for you. Sorry for the essay :D I find great success with it even against hard matchups like darius, illaoi. I perma ban Olaf on toplane and in midlane mostly Swain, it's just unplayable.
build path: Dorans > (get Dark seal if u get early kill) tear > RoA > Fimbulwinter > Frozen heart > Spirit visage. Last item is really optional, depends on what u need. If u need more damage go for something like zhonya's / banshees, upgrade your dark seal to mejai's if you're snowballing hard or even an imperial mandate / ludens. defensively u can get a thornmail, abyssal mask, jak'sho. it's really versatile but to be fair I've never reached full build in games that last less than 40 min, you gold income won't be very high. I'm going to test out getting a midgame support item for extra income. very often in mid i'll also find myself buying morellonomicon if they have a lot of heals. Boots are always situational, if they have a lot of auto attackers steelcaps obvious choice, a lot of cc then mercs but u can never go wrong with cdr boots or swifties. Especially midlane I love swifties because u dont have phase rush and you're kinda slow otherwise. Plus they have great synergy with your W so the self slow ain't that prominent. on first back I'll always buy a tear and on midlane i'll always add a dark seal. for that quick waveclear. after that buying priority should be: blastingwand (if u have 850 in your bank, always get blasting wand) > rubycrystal > t1 boots in that order. might even upgrade to t2 boots before completing RoA if i need to get back to lane fast when TP is down.
Runes top: Phase rush, manaflowband, transcendence, gathering storm + Revitalize, boneplating (vs AD bruisers) / second wind (ranged matchups, +dorans shield instead of dorans ring). with Ghost and Tp for summoners
Mid: Aftershock / Guardian, Demolish, secondwind / boneplating, Revitalize + Nimbus cloak + Gathering storm. Flash + ignite or ghost depending on what u like.
@ao8749 top: ghost/tp with phase rush, manaflow band, transcendence, gathering storm with resolve tree: revitalize and from the 2nd tier any works depending on matchup. vs AD bruisers u take boneplating. vs ranged matchups like Teemo you'll get second wind + dorans shield. other than that you'll play dorans ring 90% of time. In mid i'd opt for an aftershock, demolish, secondwind and revitalize with nimbus cloak + gathering storm with flash/ghost or flash ignite. Even a Guardian setup works instead of aftershock if u have a hard carry jungler to keep them alive during skirmishes. In mid U can also run the top setup with comet instead of phase rush to Q poke early until level 4/5 when u can insta clear wave and start roaming. but basically the runes for me that never change are revitalize and gathering storm. revitalize scales with the massive shields from both your W, R and fimbulwinter and Gathering storm i really appreciate so it keeps my waveclear / damage up to par as Galio has high AP scaling. during 30min mark that 48 AP counts for a lot. Always double adaptive and 1 health scaling rune. I play it mostly toplane and u don't want to contest early wave too much and keep wave just outside of tower range, try to land Q poke and you won't have trouble in bruiser matchups with doran's ring. look for short trades by E in, W + Q or E, Passive auto + Q and then phase rush out.

You do kot get dorans ring for his e, you get it mainly for his passive as both thr damage and the attack speed he gets scales with ap.

I faced this build today in plat ranked to someone who never played voli in his life, just picked this up and abused it, and it's extremely busted. I was Garen..couldn't beat him 1v1 even with ignite and he was 50% hp and I was 80% hp.
Voli is overtuned af right now so don't feel so bad.
