FYI - to prevent sticky tubes in tires, put a little baby powder on the tube, or in the tire itself. Works wonders and helps me NOT get flats. Good stuff!
Very nice! I received this bike for free from a friend, made it rigid, converted to threadless headset, slammed the stem with a MTB style handlebar and it's a mean pavement and trail shredder.
Meant to put this here, I've been binging your videos, thank you so much for making them. Hearing you verbalize what I think while I'm working is so much fun. You talk out loud the way I do in my head
Love that black Trek in the background. I'm more of a Hardtail, rigid fork design kinda guy. I like the one you're working on too. Love what'cha do. I learn a lot from watching.
I've always wanted to work in a bike shop. I've been doing this at home for about 30 years. Whenever someone needed something, I provided it. I'm presently doing the same things from my apartment. However, I don't have a bike stand so I can hold the bicycle suspended. I hate sitting bicycles upside down...but I have no choice. I just love working on vintage bicycles.
Thanks a ton for what you do. I just found your channel the other day but I have been soaking up as much information as possible. I feel confident in pursuing a bike repair adventure of my own.
I always pull the core with a little red core screwdriver then I use a Crank Brothers tire tool to change the tire. It works like a tire machine for removing and putting tires back on. It clips over the edge of the wheel for replacement.
Thank you! You are a pro! I do think it is better to deflate a tube before truing a wheel. BTW, I think Tri-Flow is actually a dry lube. Maybe the new rims are wider than the originals, so that is why you had to loosen the brake cable (which you mentioned when installing the frony brake). by the damage to the drive side (chain rings, front noodle mount), I guess the bike was involved in a minor accident and landed on the drive side, so frame inspection is due.
Giant bikes are great bang for the buck. As a couple, we have two Giant Nutra bikes. Gorbthem for $80, took them apart, cleaned and lubed all original components, slapped on fenders and racks, and now our 30 year old Giant Nutras are great commuter/townies.
Thanks for your UA-cam channle, I work on my own bikes quite a bit (as I enjoy doing it) and have learned a lot from you pointing things out as you go along and allowing us to join you as you work.
That velox rim tape is pretty thick which can fill in the rim gap in the middle designed to allow easier fit of the beads. For my personal stuff I've gone back to the tight fitting nylon/plastic style the correct width and been able to hand mount tires instead using tire tools in most applications. I'm not a professional. Just how I do my own stuff. I can more easily change a flat when needed on the side of the road this way. Love your videos!
my mom has the dad version of this bike, think she had the same seat, recently got it replaced. just spent this morning adjusting the front brake so it doesn't rub, has a bit of a wobble though. It's been dinged up pretty good, the pedal drive side is missing part of the protector thing, and one of the rear legs has a nice dent in it.
Love the channel excellent work.. i put my tyres on both ways.. im a collector restorer of vintage bikes....everybody has their own techniques...sometimes i put talcum powder on my tubes..sometimes i inflate the tube a little to get a tight fitting tyre on so it doesn't pinch...its what ever floats your boat...
Looks like it has been in a traffic accident or something with bent rims and chainrings like that... Btw, I never got the point of that dorc disc, I always removed those from my own bikes. It's just a piece of plastic that gets bent, hardens over time and snaps off (littering, leaving plastic in the woods) or if it's not damaged, it will turn nasty yellow over time.
Just discovered your channel. Great videos! I’ll be pointing everyone I know to your channel to learn how to do their bike maintenance. Honestly, I was watching this particular one to see if the bike was going to slip off the seat post. 😂 As I was watching I could see the frame slowly slide down the seat post as you were working on it. Was wondering if you would make it to the end before the seat post slid all the way out. 😅 Anyway, you made it to the end without issue. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Just started riding 3.5 years and watching bike videos just starting watching your channel 3 days ago I'm 67 your already in my top 3 favorite bike channels really like your show I'll probably learn alot problem is can't remember anything hope you keep making videos would the chaingaurd not work on this crank or was it junk Goodluck on your channel I've only owned trek giant and mongoose that's another reason I like this channel its like custom make for me like the close ups good camera angles
Those are gonna be some long cranks on that tiny frame. 175.😮 But I completely understand. The customers usually don't think of these things. Not at this level. Great build.
Nice to have a little air in the tubes when installing as it is a struggle if they are flat out of the box. Wonder what would be the most popular bike to recondition?
I have the Trek 7200 step over version I had my bike shop install the Tannus solid no flat tires on the bike and I absolutely love it it was the best investment I ever made I go everywhere with my bike I don't have a car anymore my bicycle is my favorite way to travel
Wow, that crank! Right before you said replace the crank you could see it wobbling. Maybe that mongoose with the bent forks got into a bike crash with this bike?
Front and rear wheels messed up, reminds me of the time I had bikes on a rear carrier and pulled up into a driveway and backing out managed to bend both wheels to one side as the wheel scraped against the pavement.
2011 I needed a cassette replaced on my Cervelo. I knew very little about bike maintenance and trusted my local bike shop with the task. That weekend I was on a charity MS ride and while a bit distracted and climbing a hill I shifted right up off the cassette and into the spokes. In retrospect I partially blame the bike shop for not at least shifting through all the gears and setting the limit screw like you're doing. I crashed into a deep culvert, full depth shoulder rotator tear. It's now 12 years later and still gives me daily pain. Live & Learn
I'm a thrifty consumer, and yet, quite surprised one can re-use inner tubes. I never would've thought. - I guess my erroneous assumption is from bad luck with flats.
@BikeFarmer - I am surprised you can sell step through bikes. I have girls that want mens frames. I usually strip the parts off them and move them to the mens bikes missing parts.
On a woman's bike frame.. that top tube is lower that way.. if there wearing a dress it doesn't show the goods.. people ask that question a lot actually
Nah. I did alright on it. Not awesome though. I think if I would’ve caught the bent crank sooner I would’ve donated the bike to charity. It made for a good video anyway! Thanks for watching!
I subscribed on 3 channels keep up the good work. What u make of the election results.i hear he done well on the black vote.i don't understand if there was an irish woman running I wud defo vote for her.i think he won because he is good for the economy also he promised to end the wars.the facts are he won't due to the deep state as we all know.
You are awesome giving vintage bikes a new life in this throw away society!❤
I like it when you talk through the videos because you give measurements to stuff and diagnosis of the problems you find. Good luck with the channel.
Thanks for your feedback! I like talking about what I’m seeing/doing. Win-win!
FYI - to prevent sticky tubes in tires, put a little baby powder on the tube, or in the tire itself. Works wonders and helps me NOT get flats. Good stuff!
Makes it easier for the roadside repair too!
I've been binging your videos. Thank you so much for making them.
Also good for your undercarriage on long rides
Baby powder? You must be a Mom or Dad. Cocaine works. (bad joke)

I work graveyard security - sometimes on bike all night and some nights at the desk. Your videos get me through the desk nights, even as reruns.

hi
Great job as usual! Always learn so much from your own work, thanks for sharing your work with us/ me !
Take care
🥳 Cheryl
what about the plastic chain guard? Shouldn't you put it back on the new crank?
I used a #2 Phillips screwdriver back when I worked as a mechanic, the air in the tube is a 50/50 percent.
Andy, I have learned so much in these vids, Godspeed!
Looks like it has been in a traffic accident or something with bent rims and chainrings like that...

67? You're much too old to ride a bike! (I'm just 59, and I still ride though).
In 2o12 a woman in van hit me head on on my motorcycle had 47 broken bones lucky to even got farly 7 roscoe 7 and agiant talon +3 lucky to even walk
Thanks for telling me all your secrets. I promise not to open a bike shop next door! (Maybe down the street. Then your competition really heats up.)
Nice video enjoyed every minute my problem is if i gi in to 3rd ur 4th it starts to slip but if i go on to the 2nd gear on front it seems ok

Great build.
Trek 7200's are worth a save. I tuned up one for my friend who has had it for years, bought when she lived in Wisconsin.
Unless it’s totally trashed, yes. Terrific, practical bikes
Nice to have a little air in the tubes when installing as it is a struggle if they are flat out of the box. Wonder what would be the most popular bike to recondition?

I got to the end… love this channel, I think I might start a channel
I'm a thrifty consumer, and yet, quite surprised one can re-use inner tubes. I never would've thought. - I guess my erroneous assumption is from bad luck with flats.
Good as new one, considering the extensive tuning and make over, wonderful. I would rather call you a bike doctor.
So you grease the pedals but not the bottom bracket or bolts for pedal arm
Chat is good. Quiet shyness, common in some men, is bad. We learn more. Enough said (wrote).
What works for you is usually the best way. 😊
Turned out beautifully
Put a road bike together,I screwed up on the cabling I left two of them too short ,internal routing what a pain
@BikeFarmer - I am surprised you can sell step through bikes. I have girls that want mens frames. I usually strip the parts off them and move them to the mens bikes missing parts.
That spoke guard is called a "dork disc"
Um actually, it is called spoke protector.
Read it with annoying voice :)
Another issue solved...The mystery of why I get flats so soon after replacing a tube. It's wrinkled maybe.
Great content and thankyou for the tips, i gonna binge all yours videos btw
i am missing some sexy jazz music in this video
Enjoyed this video, great content 👍
Thank you!
very nice videos I LOVE BICYCLES THATS MY HOBBY
I just use the tire tool to release the air.
On a woman's bike frame.. that top tube is lower that way.. if there wearing a dress it doesn't show the goods.. people ask that question a lot actually
Donnie Empty-pockets
great video. loved it !
Thanks hey!
Love this video. Unfortunately you will take a bath on this bike.

How does a women even ride a bike hard enough to get a bike in that condition?
