Album: Christmas with The Petersens
It was 1967, two days before Christmas. My unit was on some God forsaken hilltop in Vietnam. It was drizzling rain. Somewhere in the distance we could hear this song playing. Never did know if it was the radio or a record player. All of those rough, tough GI's had a far away look in their eyes and most of them had wet eyes but not from the rain.
I still get far away feeling in my gut when I hear this song.
Ellen’s strong voice is just right for this song. Great singing and playing.
Nashville should take lessons. Beautiful sound. No fancy lights, no stage effects, no dancing around or loud drum beats. Straight forward beautiful singing with exceptional musicians. Fantastic.
I love how Matt tries to protect his sisters' honor. Then saved Ellen's life! That's a real man right there. Beast on the guitar too. 👏

Petersen's release a video, I immediately like and never leave disappointed.
This was a favorite of soldiers in WWII. I cannot imagine how lonely and depressed they were . I was drafted into the Marines during Vietnam and I spent my first Christmas at boot camp. They tried to make it nice for us but you still missed your family. My second Christmas I was stateside and I was lucky enough to get some time off to be with my family at Christmas.
My 3 and 5 year old daughters request to see "The Trash Can One" on a near-daily basis. Thank you for the joy you've brought to our family this year!
My two year old nephew wanted the jingle bells outro thirty times in a row the other day. That's a whole lot of scrolling!

I only saw a dorbo one other time in the movie Road House. Jeff Healy played Cody and since he was blind he had to sit and play it like Emmitt plays it. For years I thought it was an electric guitar. Maybe it was.

This song for me is very sad. It brings back memories of Christmas when I was in the Marines during Vietnam. Nothing is sadder or lonelier than being in the service during Christmas and being away from those you love.

I can honestly say that just from seeing her in these videos; if I knew her IRL, I'd embarrass myself (maybe even more than once) by asking her to marry me. I've known and know a lot of women, and I've never met one that seems as like you said "genuinely happy and proud of her people" as she seems to be. They are a very rare sort

Watching this family video opens up an empty sadness within me, and I grieve that the world is the way it is, that I am the way I have learned to be while living in this world, instead of having learnt to share with others more of the qualities that your family's singing, as individuals and as a whole, can inspire me to dream of.
When I open my eyes, I know that the dream will end, that the moment will pass, that the magic of wonder will sink once again into the depths of its mystery, and my eyes will fill with tears as they mourn the loss of life's dream passing away.
