For most people, private, in person lessons in anything, are only really useful from an accountability standpoint. You have to be somewhere at a certain time, to prove you have done the work. Outside of that, you don’t REALLY learn anything in the lesson, because there just isn’t the time. Its effectively just a pit stop, to pick up the next learning mission. The real learning happens outside of the lesson. Since the age of fast internet speeds, if you’re disciplined and accountable, you can teach yourself pretty much anything, using videos. Its also much cheaper!
It's really helpful if you have some goal to work towards, even if It's just playing a piece for a teacjer after you've learned it to some degree of accomplishment.

I loved these lessons! You almost tricked me with the double sharps. I was really trying to figure it out. The only reason why I figured it out is before I got to that part of the lesson I was looking up the note names a few weeks ago to study and I had remembered seeing a double sharp. Tricky tricky!
I very much enjoyed these lessons. Though I already know the theory, these lessons are a reinforcement to my basic knowledge. However, I play the guitar, and I'm learning to play the piano, so the lessons help me apply my theory to the instrument. I particularly like the lesson on learning the song Sea Mist, and I'm practising it a lot, and I'm even undertaking to write it for future reference.

Haven't finished.. But I've gone back and drilled myself like 8 times from 44:00 to 51:00.
If you're having trouble with the notes. Just repeat this until you start to catch on!

My mother got me lessons and I loved it
Until I found out part of the agreement with my instructor and my parents was that all of her students would be required to participate/play a live set at a very busy mall / shopping center
All I wanted to do was play this really awesome measure from the Star Wars movies
Was forced to play Beethoven
I got so frustrated and anxious that I gave up playing entirely for the last 25 years
I most definitely have been wanting to get back into it and know I need to relearn everything

Great lessons, all stuff I mostly learnt back in high school so great revision, but… I thought you could’ve explained the 1 3 H homework task a little clearer, as even myself having covered basic scale theory, I still had to stop & think about the fact that there is no E# or B#, that they’re basically F & C. And the whole double # thing. I can’t imagine how confusing this would be to an absolute beginner. Aside from that, really great tutorial. You’re an excellent teacher.
Thanks Kristabelle, keep in mind though there are E#'s and B#'s they do exist, it's a music theory thing versus a piano thing. The note exists in music theory, it's just that we have to locate it on the piano, and therefore our mind likes to think of it as F & C.

I've been trying to teach myself piano for the past couple years. I've had minimal success but i onlyknow the bare bones basics still and only knowing how to play a few songs. I figured I'd swallow my pride and go back to square 1 with this video. So far I'm enjoying the video but i can't seem to find part 2?

Thanks for the video but I think for the H: it's half step not half note because half note means Minin and W: is whole step instead of being whole note because whole note means semibreve!

What is a F double sharp ?
a 'Sharp' simply means that you go half a note up. A Double Sharp is 2x half a note up. This means, that an Fx or F double Sharp is therefore the note we would normally call "G". However, in some Piano Scales, there is no "G" according to music theory, we have to call that particular note a F double Sharp. You can learn all about this in this course :)
