Oh its not "handling" the winds, it just is able to stay aloft but its getting swept away for sure. Once it catches up to the wind speed things smooth out but control is limited aside from turning
This was a double tornado. It hit my street and three streets up from us. It ripped my fences clean off and my neighbor's chimneys off too. I was lucky enough to not have any damage besides roof damage. I will have to replace my roof though. But the neighbors 3 streets up were not so lucky. Their entire house was destroyed. And many many houses have severe damage to siding and roofing. You can see in the video after it crosses the interstate that it looks to change into a double tornado. And that's exactly what it did. Power is still out and will probably stay out. If you look at the video you can see a factory-type building on the right and a golf course on the left. The neighborhood I live in is a part of that golf community. And where the tornado hit was exactly the residential area of timberline. There are entire sections of woods that are now completely gone. And our entire house shook for 5 seconds when the tornado was overhead. Thank god we made it out okay. EDIT March 27th, 12:05am: By the grace of God we are still here and very very thankful. We regained power at 5:00 this afternoon. Thank you all for the prayers for they have helped. we have found more homes destroyed other than the one I mentioned in my original comment. But to our knowledge, no one was hurt within the timberline community and that is the most important thing. We are actively praying for all those affected along with us. We were in our bathroom and we started praying and as soon as we said amen our house started shaking. I was calm, my father was calm. But my mother, bless her heart, she was so scared. I felt so bad for her. But we all knew it was in the hands of God. And as long as we couldn't see the sky through the ceiling we knew things would be okay. Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected by this and are very sorry to those who lost loved ones. We are praying for all.
I'm glad you guys are okay, that had to be TERRIFYING! As I always say, valuables can be replaced, your life can't. So many people don't know how much danger they put themselves in when they go outside to film these things, because a tornado can change direction on a dime at the last second. I hope you guys get power back soon, but it sounds like it'll be a while.
Glad you guys are safe. I JUST moved from Calera. I lived in Emerald Ridge. Timberline and all the neighborhoods that way were very treed. @AJ The big difference is the landscape. Oklahoma has vast fields and grasslands. Alabama basically is almost all trees. You can't see a tornado when 50-80 foot trees surround you on all sides.

Amazing footage with the drone! That is a game changer for storm chasing but I can imagine how tough it is to be there at the right time and in a safe place for the pilot. I also hate to see a tornado rip through a populated area.
That’s actually some of the best footage ever captured of a multi-vortex tornado. You can clearly see both clockwise and counterclockwise vortices circulating around the main tornado in this footage. That’s well done, especially in flying a drone in a violent storm!
0:42 ish to the right side of the video you see arcing even though the condensation funnel looks like it's a few miles away. Wonder if that was maybe a primary cutout blowing from a downstream short or maybe some kind of outflow/inflow?
Yes, James Spann said multiple times that it was likely an EF-4. However, we won't know for sure until the damage report is complete. I still can't believe how much destruction it caused and how long it lasted!
Went right near my house just a few miles south. I'm in the pit of a valley, so I get a lot of wind down it, but neither much lightning nor tornados directly run down my valley.

I'm in Georgia at the line. It got scary at 12:30 this morning. The sirens and emergency alerts were going off, one touched down about 20 minutes from me.
These drone shots show the power & size of these monsters. Complete different view than from the ground. Sorry to hear there was loss of lives. The Ohio River Valley is under a high wind warning tonight & that's enough for me. There's something eerie about high winds approaching because you can hear it coming through the trees off in the distance. Different than the low rumble of a tornado. Hope that made sense. If you've heard it, you know what I mean. No, I'm not comparing the destructive ability between tornados & high winds.
