@@melimelo8334 because at the end of season three when Derek was talking to Stiles in the locker room he told Stiles he couldn't tell the difference between reality and fantasy. Then Stiles told him that when you're dreaming, you have extra fingers. But instead of counting his own fingers, Derek counted Stiles's and when he realized that Stiles had extra fingers he immediately woke up in his loft just in time to be ambushed by the Mexican hunters and Kate Argent. So, in that sense, Stiles was the one who brought him back to reality when he needed it most.

I guess I didn't read that scene this way but it is kinda confusing because Derek has said before that anger was his anchor, so one could assume that he changed anchor... I thought it was Cora at first but then when I saw that scene with stiles and the fingers' counting, I got confused there for a minute. It's probably also because post-nogitsune Stiles knew better and could help Derek figure out if he was dreaming or not since he used that technique on himself. I guess that's why Derek unconsciously materialized/projected Stiles in his mind, because he sensed/knew only Stiles would know how to help him figure that out...
