Mercedes fuel distributor. Part 1. BAD REBUILD. DO NOT USE Rebuilt Systems on eBay

  • There is another video I made after installing rebuilt unit in the car and showed it to him. Here is a link: • Fuel distributor after... . Does not work correctly.
Actually the person would not refund for rebuild citing that unit was opened by me and it voids warranty. He said that I should have mailed it back to him for further testing. I do not want him to even touch it after seeing what he has done to it. Thank God eBay refunded me fully and removed his listing all alone.
I do not trust this unit fully but I'm pretty positive I can recalibrate it after installing all new O-rings and diaphragm. That will not be easy as unit will need to be removed many times to adjust control plunger for correct fuel delivery at idle. Major concern is that Crazy Glue traveling though unit. Most likely gasoline will dissolve tiny amount of glue still left after my cleaning but I'm sure it would have not dissolved that much of glue he put into it.
Stay tunes for more videos after I receive proper rebuild kit and final test of unit in the car.

Finally rebuilt the unit and installed it back in the car. Engine runs perfect, idle is super steady, RPMs pick up amazing, engine runs rock solid and smooth.
Took me long time to calibrate the unit, had to remove it many times to readjust. If I would to do it from the start I would measure and record all values before dis-assembly and install all metering springs in exact order they came from factory.
Have videos of rebuild process and make last one today showing how car runs now.

Received new rebuild kit, replaced all rubbers inside. Had to remove and reinstall the unit many times to recalibrate plunger height. After all troubles I finally got my car to run great again :) There are no leaks from ports, ports seem to be very balanced now, idle and acceleration is good again. Have few more videos to show how car runs after rebuilding unit myself.

What a disappointment. When you send a part to a vendor, who knows the odds are small that you will ever inspect his work, and he scams you like this guy did, it is criminal. Thanks for putting the warning out, so more of us, do not experience this disappointment.

New to Mercedes. Just got two 300SLs that sat for years. Will I have to rebuild the distributor or can i just pump new fuel through it? I'm sure it's gummy so I guess my question is do I need to rebuild or can I take it apart and clean it out without a rebuild?

You must have some pretty ordinary fuel over there. When I rebuilt mine it was like new inside with no dirt or stains. The diaphragm was stretched though.

do you actually recommend not buying rebuild kits on ebay or sending them for a rebuild? I have a bad fuel distributor for a 380se and im waiting on that but with your help I think I can do it on my owm but the real reason I want to do it is because everyone wants my core to buy a rebuilt unit and now that u showed me this im less inclined to do this.

That is just embarrassingly awful. I used to rebuild CIS distributors for an independent Mercedes shop, so I know 'em fairly well. I'm honestly surprised the guy even bothered taking it apart with as little knowledge as he clearly has. If you rebuild them as well, then I don't even need to mention just how insanely finicky these things are.
Only time I ever buy parts on eBay is when I need to fill a space and pass some time. Bleh.

sorry to hear about your bad experience I'm gonna make absolute sure not to use that guy --- What happens if a crazy glue crystal travelled down the gas tube right into a piston???? It could possibly scar a piston - which would be CRITICAL ---- Thank you for taking the time to educate us!!

Re. that cut in the diaphragm: In your video around 5:17 I can see traces where the diaphragm used to be around that hole you talked about. It barely goes around the hole, so that hole was not covered.

Follow up after long time. Engine ran fine but had slight bog so I finally had time to tune whole injection system. Here is a video: ua-cam.com/video/2T5zhPL3Wl8/v-deo.html

Absolutely amazing. I hope you give him a bad review on Ebay, and send him a link to this video. Do you think you can trust this unit even after you rebuild it? Or should you collect one from a junk yard, and rebuild that? Truthfully, who knows what kind of damage he might have done to it that you cannot undo.

vsandvs I am amazed Ebay removed his listing. All they seem to care about is their own profit from sales. With all the headache of the recalibration and multiple install/remove, I would personally get another one to rebuild.

    • @vsandvs
      @vsandvs  10 років тому

I know, it will be heavy lift to recalibrate it without proper tools. Hopefully I will succeed. I wish I can find another unit to rebuild. For 500SL these go for around $450 used plus rebuild kit and supplies for another $100. It just gets too expensive. If I could not calibrate it I'm thinking of buying 560SEL unit and try to install that one. Those are cheap used, around $130. Lets see how it goes, in few days parts should arrive and today I will double check on fuel pressure regulator valve that looks to be stuck sideways in my unit.
      More videos to come.

Rebuilt systems is a joke. Sorry to hear he ripped you off and gave you such a hard time. I send ours off to CSI Specialist in Georgia. They rebuild it, calibrated and bench test it. You also get a two year, unlimited miles on theirs. super nice guys and super smart. No crazy glue like old crazy glue Gene. If they haven't owned a W126, came from Europe or wasn't born before 1950's they don't touch it.

I have a beautiful Black 1991 560 SEL with 327000 miles. I was told that there is a problem with the fuel distributor delivering insufficient fuel to the no.7 cylinder. Although I am a good mechanic I am starting to believe the rebuild might be beyond my capabilities and testing equipment. Doe's anybody know of any rebuilds on the market that are any good? Any feedback would be appreciated!

I haven't used "Rebuild Systems", but after this video, I want to give them a bad review. What a con artist, destroying classic cars, taking advantage of customers, and providing half-assed "service" to those customers, while pocketing money that they actually earned is unacceptable. I hope you sue, and win, but if not, then I hope he doesn't get away with his scam. Good luck on your rebuild, and may you never experience such a scam again.

rebuilt systems Mate, there is a video of the poor quality and technique of work performed. It's time to listen and improve the service, not defend yourself. After all, he just wanted the rebuild done correctly in the first place. These guys really take pride in their cars and for that reason the work done on them must be flawless. I get it, mistakes happen and it doesn't mean you're bad at your job, but you have to do right by the customer. Not being forced to provide a refund really says little. It's a tough business to be in.

Victor has a great reputable reputation. He is a very knowledgeable Mercedes technician, etc. He wouldn't just blame someone for something, unless it was true .
I have Spoken To Victor on the phone several times . He is one of the two most knowledgeable and experienced Mercedes guys that I know. The other guy is a friend who use to own a Porsche dealership.
You evidently don't know anything about Mercedes. I own three SL Mercedes as of now and work on them myself.
You probably have never owned a Mercedes , therefore you don't know anything about them and including how to work on them .Its evident you're a scammer .
Thank you Victor for warning us about that scammer . We Mercedes guys know you are telling the truth.

Since your video we have done over 41000 plus dollars in rebuilds. Some do ask about your video's but realize that a company can have a very few village idiots trying to commit extortion. We have only had a very few 3 to 4 complaints out of thousands. If a grand mow can buy her grand son a rebuild and him put it on in a few hours and have it running, why can't a village idiot. I would not let you work on my wheelbarrow.
