I have been a fan of godzilla since childhood and will always be one! I'm 23 now but I always remember those days back when I was 12, when I first started watching Godzilla. Used to watch on dvd players back then. I still remember nagging at my dad to buy me more godzilla dvds. Many weren't available but I was still persistent, rented some, even borrowed some and somehow managed to watch almost all the movies from heisei era, then millennium. Now watching monsterverse on big screen. Came a long way huh! Somehow I feel like I'm emotionally attached to godzilla. That's why I don't want these movies to end. I don't care about who the director was or who will be the director next rather I juSt want them to continue the franchise. Won't complain about a solo movie or godzilla having less screen time...I just want to see the G-MAN in action!
At first I didn't like Wingard's cinematography in GvK but then I noticed how he handled Godzilla in his movies. Godzilla is basically unstoppable and persistent like Godzilla Final Wars. I don't know about most fans but I'd rather see Godzilla kick ass every single time and have Kong be the vulnerable one. Which is why GxK was so entertaining. You know when Wingard's Godzilla appears he'll do some crazy stuff like doing a suplex or creating a hole to the hollow earth. Sure Kong had a lot of screen time in Wingard's films but that's because of his connection with Jia. Which is a great character by the way. In fact most of Wingard's human characters are not as annoying or distracting. Dr. Andrews is ok, Bernie is ok but Trapper and Jia added interesting ideas within the Monsterverse. Also Wingard's Mothra is also very good. She is proactive and doesn't look weak and her connection with Godzilla was portrayed really well. And finally, Wingard created Doug which is great addition to the list of Titans. My biggest fear is, the next director won't understand the vibe of the fanbase. People want more monster action than human drama. Even the Japanese are excited to see this type of Godzilla movies.
Oh, so he’s busy doing another project. Ok. Respect. Well, we don’t necessarily NEED Adam to return. He’s had 2 good runs so I think letting him take a break would be fine. Besides, I’m sure there are other directors with as much passion for giant monsters and the Monsterverse as a whole who would be ecstatic to direct the third entry. Just gotta get someone who knows what they’re doing.
We will still get it there just looking for a new director since adam winguard has another project to work on. Just in case you didn't know they hired dave callahan to write the script.
Honestly glad to hear this news. Loved 2014 and GKofM. It took the story more seriously like a mythologically based approach where the monsters were serious also. Adam’s pick for music has sucked. It’s like some weird Tron vibe. And the story has been reminiscent of the last two Guardians of the Galaxy and honestly a lot of recent Marvel garbage which was full of stupid poop and pee kid humor. The Wingard films weren’t as bad as the recent Marvel’s but they’ve been pretty lackluster with writing and music hiding behind great CGI.
I liked Pacific Rim: Uprising (and I still don't know for sure why everyone else doesn't except that it's not quite as good as the first), so that example doesn't worry me. What worries me is that this is the same scenario that got us X-Men 3. Fortunately, the Monsterverse has already had a lot of directors, so they probably know how to handle balancing different creative visions by now. I'm personally hoping that Dougherty can give us another Godzilla-centric film as King of the Monsters was my favorite Monsterverse movie by far.
It's a bummer for sure! I love what Adam has contributed to the monsterverse. GVK was actually my first movie. I'm hoping for the best and just that the right director is put in place to give us a proper follow up.
They did manage to build A LOT of hype for this last one... they rly should capitalize on the quality more than anything, however long it takes. These cinematic universes are all about long-term investment & quality keeps ppl interested. Another director will just fuck up the momentum they've gathered - I'm not optimistic
Im definitely ok with this. Toho gave us rights to Godzilla just to make Kong the main characters. I love Kong, but these started being about Godzilla. Every movie Adam made focused less on Godzilla. This is not Wingart hate. I think he made a great movie in GvK. Let's bring back the dark Godzilla.
That doesn't mean that GXK monster wars couldn't be a thing I would love to see Godzilla find a subspecies for the Gojira geno maybe one that isn't too keen on Godzilla and Dagon them being outcasts maybe Shimo could make a return to help Godzilla in the place of Dagon or maybe Dagon's actual twin will stand with Godzilla.
I really want him back, the start of the Pandemic really hurt KOTMs, but it was fantastic, and he is a core Godzilla fan, and that is what we need. I personally am tired of the Monke centered films riding Godzilla's name. We need Godzilla being front and center and not a silly martial arts monster fights.
@@Thaumiel10 Like the original Japanese films. A darker tone movie requires to have the human input because the monsters are just that. You need a link in the story to have an actual connection. Monster fights are fun and all, but it's stupid to just make monsters only to drive a story. Even the PLANET OF THE APES franchise understands that.
@@EternalRoman Yes KotM is very underrated. It's actually my fave of all them. I liked GvK and GxK but the latest one skews slightly too much on the light-heartedness, there is no feeling of high stakes as it is all very non-serious, unlike KotM where there was a real sense of danger and threat
Let’s hope that the next director knows what they’re doing like Adam did. He brought the Monsterverse to what could be its peak if things aren’t handled carefully, especially if the next movie is Godzilla centered. Even with all the context given in both GvK and GxK, a good chunk of ppl were too media illiterate to understand Godzilla and his actions. Some ppl want a Mothra movie but I can’t see that bringing in good money tbh. Those who say money shouldn’t be a factor seem to disregard the fact that Legendary needs it like any other studio.
Legendary didn’t wait for the director on pacific rim. That killed the franchise. I don’t understand the shortsightedness of these studios. They could wait a year and have likely similar success our rush and take a huge rusk. It baffles.
Why Adam is such an amazing director!!! I wanted to see him do that film he was talking about how he said he wanted to make it like Godzilla vs Destroyah. 😢 Legendary don't you dare rush this movie. Man I hope they pick a good director.
Gareth Edwards will be too busy with the "Jurassic" movie. Guillermo Del Toro will be too expensive at this stage. Mike Dougherty directed the only Monsterverse film that badly underwhelmed at the box-office,, so I doubt they will bring him back. My question is what is Legendary"s priority at this time? Do that want to immediately make another feature, or do they want to concentrate their efforts on season two of "Monarch", and the spinoffs? (or do they want tackle all of this at the same time?!)
While I'm glad to be getting new directors bringing their vision to the Monsterverse, it is weird to not wait on Windgard considering how much he has shared and hyped up his third film. If possible, could we perhaps get a Godzilla 3 and Kong 2 instead with new directors? Then Windgard returns for the next Godzilla x Kong movie after he is finished with Onslaught? Again, say what you will about Windgard, but he's two films in. Might as well let him finish his trilogy.
hate to be that guy.. but it’s long overdue! We need to dial back the silliness and bring back more of the dark/gritty seriousness.. this is good for the overall longevity of the franchise.. ALSO Junkie needs to be dropped IMMEDIATELY his music does not fit these movies AT ALL. Bring back the legacy tracks! Edit: we need to get back to what g14, KSI, & KOTM setup! Not these new ones.. they’re fun but DO NOT respect or build on the source material this whole thing is borrowing from ALSO I own all of the original movies on VHS.. I’m a diehard so I feel confident enough to bash and critique
Yup. The direction it was going in felt very Transformers-y, Pacific Rim Uprising-y. The monsters felt like they had no weight and no impactful sense of scale. If only we could get a director that can combine the storytelling and weight from Gareth Edwards and Wingard's characters and monster personality.
Ok even I’m worried about the next mv film and 90%of the time I’m never worried about the next film so I’m really hoping that they are patient with it so maybe 3 or 4 years before it’s release
I prefer Dougherty to return. He really need to fix the sloppy worldbuilding brought on by gxk and gvk. Make a solo movie about godzilla, mothra. Kong already finished his story in gxk. Make solo movies that leads up to another crossover movie like a proper cinematic universe because that's what the monsterverse is advertised as.
No I thought his direction in kotm was absolutely terrible, lazy script, bad human characters mostly lackluster fights, and packed with way too much fan service.
I’m not really that bummed. In my opinion, GxK had problems up the wall and ultimately should’ve been a Kong solo movie. The film was definitely the most showa-like monster verse film we’ve gotten and, while I can appreciate that tone in small doses, I’d rather see a few more solo stories with the monsters with a tone akin to G2014 before we rush into Destroyah
This isn't necessarily a bad thing so long as they stick with the G-centric GxK3 idea that Wingard had. Darker tone would be nice but if it can be on par with GxK that's fine. Please just have him as a creative consultant or something atleast...
From the perspective of creative direction and my personal taste, I don't regret Adam Wingard being replaced. He's clearly opting for big loud dumb fun, which is not my cup of tea. I would prefer that to be leavened with more seriousness, more nuanced characters, more grounded action, and more of a sense of the scale and majesty of these Titans from the human perspective. OTOH Wingard's style is obviously popular and profitable., although I'm not sure that would continue if the Monsterverse doesn't continue to evolve.
The only people who would be watching would be these movies would be those who' have seen the older eras of Godzilla movies. this movie was said to be a nod to the showa era. A half serious and half goofy era of Godzilla movies
Witnessing what he did to Godzilla i have been so upset . Del Toro please make Monsterverse a legendary, Give Godzilla a Respect it needs .... Last Godzilla KOTM is great but alot of human int etc .
If they don’t expand on Mothra’s roll in the next movie, I am going to be really annoyed. She is my favorite monster. Personally it would be interesting to have a movie focused on a younger Godzilla and Mothra when they lived in Hollow Earth when more Titans roamed it.
I'm perfectly fine that *Adam Wingard* is gone. He directed 2 entertaining entries in the *MonsterVerse* which I enjoyed. So, now it's time for a new director's vision. But I have 2 reservations and concerns: (1) Please let the next director be a fan of *Godzilla* and kaiju films in general. (2) Please don't inject Woke-nonsense into the movie. (Thus far, the *MonsterVerse* has avoided wokeness which has allowed viewers a breath of fresh air and an escape from the harsh realities of life).
Finally We can now breath after 2 movies having bad story and quality what a waste of money seeing 3 mins of exposures of Godzilla and gving monkey butts storyline
That's pretty good news imo, I'd like the future film to have a bit more substance and tone. I'd personally want Mike Doherty back, especially if the next film will be Godzilla focused.
@@monsunoguy19 Kotm was literally all about how Simmons was not right. Wingard was the one that wanted to make a movie about Godzilla, now it's not so certain anymore.
that's ironic lol. 2014 and KOTM had a decent plot but everyone was complaining that there weren't enough monster fights. So it makes sense why they went that direction. Why focus on humans when your entire movie is only being watched for monsters.
No no More action is good but yeah the world building wasn’t really executed well. The inconsistency of titan age and how they tried to insert shimo in the ancient battle of Godzilla and Ghidorah. Frankly speaking they should have never inserted shimo and let the freezing of ghidorah vague.
Yes! His movies were very cartoonish, and the human characters were just annoying-I hated them. The story was terrible and reminded me of how Michael Bay directs his Transformers movies.
I sure hope that ghidorah makes some kind of comeback in any form like mecha ghidorah that's what I'm really hoping for. Destoroyah sounds insane, I wonder what it will look like. Also, back to ghidorah, we need a Monsterverse version of Desghidorah or Keizer Ghidorah.
I don’t know if they could get him but I’d really like to see Jordon Peele direct the next film. He’s a known monster lover, works well with his budgets, and could add more horror elements to the next film. His work on Nope really makes me want to see what his take on Orga or Hedorah would look like.
It's very dissapointing that Adam won't return to finish his Trilogy, but it's reasonable, he wanted to work on small Projects like Onslaught and Thundercats, really gonna miss him. As for a Director that i think it could be an Amazing choice for direct it, would be Matt Reeves. I personaly love his Style in his Movies, he can combine the Thriller and Realism with the Sci-Fi, Drama and Emotional tones, examples are Dawn and War for the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield and The Batman, which are my Favourite movies that he made. Even if Adam won't return to Direct it, at least he could still be Involved on it as Producer or as Writer and giving his Ideas for the Film, this gives more Relief to my spirit, still hyped to see this Movie, but first, Legendary just has to take some Time to make this Movie as good as they Want.
@Matt_Gon.23Legendary owns the monsterverse And what if they don't What if that director Doubled down on wingards directing Style That's what alot of u don't see Gxk made 194 million on its opening weekend then it climbed and surpassed GvK the second most financially successful What's that old saying If it ain't broke It doesn't even have to be a godzilla/kong movie Again what if they doubled down on that style in a solo godzilla movie The right director for u Is not the same as the right director for them
i hugely dislikeJunkie's music direction, not keeping the classic godzilla theme is a huge mistake imo, junkies godzilla theme doesnt sound GODZILLA it just sounds like a generic kaiju theme, there is nothing unique to it that makes it stand out. if we took Junkie's godzilla theme and slaped it into any other kaiju movie it wouyldnt feel out of place because it is a KAIJU ost, not a GODZILLA ost. like you said Bear Mcreary is what we need, he managed to make something new with the classic style and thats a huge plus for me.
Godzilla KOTM was the best film in the franchise. I see people complaining about humans, but we can't deny that the story is coherent with the film, something we don't see in GVK and GXK. - In KOTM we can "feel" the weight of the monsters, the monsters give the image of being majestic creatures, the Villain really gives the feeling of threat. - In GvK a bunch of children manage to invade a secret headquarters of the Monarch, where are the cameras that never find the characters? The Mecha is put in the film and discarded like trash, but it wasn't a bad film. But we have already noticed a drop in the quality of History. - GxK, a bunch of monkeys being controlled by another monkey who controls an ice titan without explanation, to make matters worse in the film itself it is said that Godzilla has already faced them and trapped them in the hollow earth, TOTALLY killing the film's climax. It simply doesn't give the feeling of villains with potential, regardless of people speaking so highly of Shimo, she didn't have ANY of that in the film.
I don't think this is bad news. Adam did a good job but a change in flavour is required. Seriousness & dark-mode needs to be brought back. Things were getting too comical.
@@Thatonerandomguy1331 theres a difference between goofy and just straight up lazy writing and GxK is the latter and you do realize showa put the franchise at a hiatus for 9 years right? Damn near killed the franchise
Ones again Hollywood, not learning from their mistakes from the past of not waiting for the same Director to come back to make the next movie. Hopefully, they have learned their mistakes, but I'm not holding my breath
@Nolan-ni4dm You are right the gman has 2 movies but in the recent movies such as gvk or gxk neither Kong or the gman both were the main characters but unfortunately Kong got more screen time in the recent movies and as for the godzilla 2014 and 2019 , in the 2014 one godzilla only 11 minutes of screen time which is actually sad because it was supposed to be based on him .despite that the movie was a big hit therefore they had a second one and even if we count the movies by both of them , then let's see : Godzilla : 2 movies ( main character ) Kong : 3 movies ( main character ) In gvk he was supposed to be a hero to stop godzilla therefore its counted under Kong and as for gxk Kong was supposed to be the protecter of the hollow earth but once it was attacked he left to get godzilla to help him defeat the skar king after they won he got to rule the other apes so its basically for him, also sorry for the long paragraph.
I mean if u have watched any of the old godzilla movies u probably don't understand It's not all wingard and support for him Also u should be very worried if the projected release date is 2026 let's not forget what happened to justice league when being rushed and a new director comes
I kinda liked having Adam direct the last 2 films but it also a lil sad because he’s created the best movies in the monsterverse in my opinion and I hope he returns but I think they don’t have to bring destoroyah into the movies just yet so like just wait maybe end 2020s or even 2030s idk but I really liked him as a director
Have the Russo brothers ever ventured in to monsters/horror before? We’ve seen what they did for the MCU. They could absolutely handle a job this big and important to the fans and the studio. Just a thought…..
This is disappointing I was hoping we’d stay in this Showa era vibe it works so much better Dougherty would just cast 5 A-listers and have 4 minutes of total monster action and every fight in a dark setting

Man I wanted a baby Godzilla
Oh, so he’s busy doing another project. Ok. Respect. Well, we don’t necessarily NEED Adam to return. He’s had 2 good runs so I think letting him take a break would be fine. Besides, I’m sure there are other directors with as much passion for giant monsters and the Monsterverse as a whole who would be ecstatic to direct the third entry. Just gotta get someone who knows what they’re doing.
I'm sad we won't be getting that GxK trilogy 😭
Everyone please give love and more support to Adam Wingard
I liked Pacific Rim: Uprising (and I still don't know for sure why everyone else doesn't except that it's not quite as good as the first), so that example doesn't worry me. What worries me is that this is the same scenario that got us X-Men 3. Fortunately, the Monsterverse has already had a lot of directors, so they probably know how to handle balancing different creative visions by now. I'm personally hoping that Dougherty can give us another Godzilla-centric film as King of the Monsters was my favorite Monsterverse movie by far.
Guillermo Del Toro should totally direct, hes a fan and is totally experienced in blockbuster film making.
It's a bummer for sure! I love what Adam has contributed to the monsterverse. GVK was actually my first movie. I'm hoping for the best and just that the right director is put in place to give us a proper follow up.
I’m perfectly fine with that! Bring back Gareth Edward’s! He directed the best movie of the series!
Not avaible
I would love to get him back for one more godzilla movie
We need Michael Dougherty in Monsterverse, now!
Still to much human time and dumb plot
@@emerestthisk990 Exactly
Im surprissd he got dropped he told us we would see more godzilla in the new empire but we saw more kong again
It baffles.
I feel the next film isn't a GXK film, but a solo film.
Yes and it will only be Godzilla since kong had the most screen time than Godzilla in gxk.
@@swethavenkata9623no probably Kong bc Monsterverse
It’s not going to be a solo film
ive loved these last to movies but gxk new empire specifically ive felt like godzilla screen time is way too small
Why Adam is such an amazing director!!! I wanted to see him do that film he was talking about how he said he wanted to make it like Godzilla vs Destroyah. 😢 Legendary don't you dare rush this movie. Man I hope they pick a good director.
Because he can’t make monsterverse movies he should make more thor love and thunders
@@Dack-i my guy he didn't direct thor love and thunder. Nor did he direct a single mcu movie.
bros the type of person to say KOTM didn't have good enough plot.@@Dack-i
@@Shockwave_987 I know it’s a joke because it’s the Thor love and thunder of the monsterverse
We need King Caesar in the monsterverse right NOW
Gareth Edwards will be too busy with the "Jurassic" movie.
I'm not worried to get another jurassic sequels. I'm no fans of it. Well, I like first and second jurassic park movies. So, yeah.
Not these new ones.. they’re fun but DO NOT respect or build on the source material this whole thing is borrowing from
ALSO I own all of the original movies on VHS.. I’m a diehard so I feel confident enough to bash and critique
Or at least a balance of both, which I think the likes of Jordan and Mike did try at.
yes, the monsteverse started with a serious tone afterall, wouldn't hurt to go back as long as they do it right.
RIGHT??!!? RIGHT?!?!!?!?!?
Yup. The direction it was going in felt very Transformers-y, Pacific Rim Uprising-y. The monsters felt like they had no weight and no impactful sense of scale. If only we could get a director that can combine the storytelling and weight from Gareth Edwards and Wingard's characters and monster personality.
You make it look like it turned out like Thor Love and Thunder with your talk about silliness.
TRUE
No I thought his direction in kotm was absolutely terrible, lazy script, bad human characters mostly lackluster fights, and packed with way too much fan service.
You are correct
Too many cut aways
KOTM had the worst human story in the MV and the fight scenes were atrocious. If he comes back he needs to improve on both fronts.
He was the first monster verse director to make 2 films 😭
In my opinion some movies take three maybe four sometimes a few more years but sometimes it takes Couple of weeks or months to movies I don’t recall
This isn't necessarily a bad thing so long as they stick with the G-centric GxK3 idea that Wingard had. Darker tone would be nice but if it can be on par with GxK that's fine. Please just have him as a creative consultant or something atleast...
I hope they get Jonah in the next movie
A half serious and half goofy era of Godzilla movies
or.....Adam already had the story for the sequel fleshed out, and Legendary had started before New Empire finished to get the ball rolling...
LEGENDARY! BRING GARETH EDWARDS BACK AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!
Witnessing what he did to Godzilla i have been so upset . Del Toro please make Monsterverse a legendary, Give Godzilla a Respect it needs ....
Last Godzilla KOTM is great but alot of human int etc .
Yeah that's why Dougherty messed up Aldo he continued the trend of cutting away from the fight
If they don’t expand on Mothra’s roll in the next movie, I am going to be really annoyed. She is my favorite monster. Personally it would be interesting to have a movie focused on a younger Godzilla and Mothra when they lived in Hollow Earth when more Titans roamed it.
then create your own movie who is Mothra is the lead character
I'm perfectly fine that *Adam Wingard* is gone. He directed 2 entertaining entries in the *MonsterVerse* which I enjoyed. So, now it's time for a new director's vision. But I have 2 reservations and concerns: (1) Please let the next director be a fan of *Godzilla* and kaiju films in general. (2) Please don't inject Woke-nonsense into the movie. (Thus far, the *MonsterVerse* has avoided wokeness which has allowed viewers a breath of fresh air and an escape from the harsh realities of life).
I wonder if Jordan Vogt-Robert can direct another kong movies, like he did skull island. I wanted to see Kong Hollow Earth.
@Matt_Gon.23 So, you think there be next kong then godzila before trilogy as gvk.
Woke means nothing. It's just a lazy word people use to hide their bigotry. Same people said GxK would be woke just because Godzilla had pink spines.
Wdym by woke???😭
Yeah we can wait... just make it worth it, like Elden Ring!
Finally We can now breath after 2 movies having bad story and quality what a waste of money seeing 3 mins of exposures of Godzilla and gving monkey butts storyline
What does that even mean?
Shut up Kiddo just cry 😭
I’m gonna still hold out hope
That's pretty good news imo, I'd like the future film to have a bit more substance and tone. I'd personally want Mike Doherty back, especially if the next film will be Godzilla focused.
Yeah Quiet Place and NOPE type of serious films..Horror element...not this power rangers nonsense

I am happy he is out, To me Adam did what Michael bay did to transformers, too much action and not enough plot.
that's ironic lol.
@@Arcad1010I think the world building was executed well.

NOOOOOO! I love Adam Wingard's movies!

And what if they don't
What if that director Doubled down on wingards directing

What's that old saying
If it ain't broke
It doesn't even have to be a godzilla/kong movie
Again what if they doubled down on that style in a solo godzilla movie

Imagine if they bring James Cameron into the mix
I don’t really mind who directs it, just as long as junkie isn’t the music director. He burnt the kitchen in there and we need bear mcreary back.
Yuuuup. Musical score on King of the monsters perfection
i hugely dislikeJunkie's music direction, not keeping the classic godzilla theme is a huge mistake imo, junkies godzilla theme doesnt sound GODZILLA it just sounds like a generic kaiju theme, there is nothing unique to it that makes it stand out.
if we took Junkie's godzilla theme and slaped it into any other kaiju movie it wouyldnt feel out of place because it is a KAIJU ost, not a GODZILLA ost.
like you said Bear Mcreary is what we need, he managed to make something new with the classic style and thats a huge plus for me.
Which Godzilla theme did “junkie” do?
I can’t think of a single good score from JunkieXL that’s the sad part
@@IAloneAmTheYapper GxK’s.
He probably going to start focusing on the Thundercats live action movie.
Yes yes yes!!!! Thundercats. Socks we wouldn't have him in the next movie. I'm excited for Thundercats though.
he was a great director, Wish he stayed longer but i have and idea. try and get gareth edwards back.

@Nolan-ni4dm You are right the gman has 2 movies but in the recent movies such as gvk or gxk neither Kong or the gman both were the main characters but unfortunately Kong got more screen time in the recent movies and as for the godzilla 2014 and 2019 , in the 2014 one godzilla only 11 minutes of screen time which is actually sad because it was supposed to be based on him .despite that the movie was a big hit therefore they had a second one and even if we count the movies by both of them , then let's see :
Godzilla : 2 movies ( main character )
Kong : 3 movies ( main character )
In gvk he was supposed to be a hero to stop godzilla therefore its counted under Kong and as for gxk Kong was supposed to be the protecter of the hollow earth but once it was attacked he left to get godzilla to help him defeat the skar king after they won he got to rule the other apes so its basically for him, also sorry for the long paragraph.
