    A very useful video: thanks for sharing. I hope others will take note, and not wear their plaids pulled forward, covering their left arm, but rather swept back as in your video.
    Not so easy though, when you are playing solo, in full dress, and you have to do your own plaid !

      Yea, and I’ve only got one shell on my doublet, plus rarely have an assistant to help tie in the plaide.

      The army wears the plaid pulled over the shoulder and pinned in with a broach. That's the way its "supposed" to be done.

      @@piperbob2 I'm in the army and was taught otherwise. Overall the method here is pretty good and looks neat and tidy. If you are interested there are a couple of videos on UA-cam by Jim Ramsay (channel name). You'll see that military bands wear theirs over the shoulder- particularly easy to see on the Royal Regiment of Scotland brass band (they dont have pesky drones obscuring the view of the shoulder.)

    Exactly how do you beat time with a mace?

      Darian, You are owed an answer, and after five years is too damn long. So, Brother, without further delay. First and foremost, their many "Techniques, Routines, Moves, or Flourishings" and some more difficult than others. Take in consideration, the "time'' whether by "beat/count" or by true time in seconds to determine how long it takes to fully execute the Flourishing. As a drum major we are the leadership of the band, it is our responsibility to know the principles of all sections percussion, pipes, brass, and woodwind, when accompanied in the Music or Score. Now, knowing what you are performing, you match your flourishing to either phrases/verses or by the time of the piece being performed. Also, there are Preparatory Commands, be sure to give adequate time for those in performance as well. I'm sorry the "Barracks Lawyers" couldn't give you the time of day. I hope this answers your question. God Bless.

      Drum majors in pipe bands do not beat time with a mace. That’s the bass drummers job.
      The Pipe Major may set the timing by tapping his foot, before playing, but not during playing.

    Ich habe mein plaid alleine wickeln und legen müssen, die Variante die im Video gezeigt wird, ist unpraktisch man kann sich nicht alleine anziehen. Es gibt unzählige Arten ein Plaid zu wickeln. Beim Pipers plaid ist es besser, wenn es über die vordere Schulter geht. Beim Drum Major wäre der Stoff über die Schulter unpraktisch und hinderlich mit dem Mace. Die uniform vom Drum Major im Video ist von allem ein bisschen zu viel.

    • @piperbob2
      @piperbob2 7 років тому +1

      The length of the long plaid will vary. I have six long (pipers') plaids: the shortest is about 287 cms (9' 5") not including the fringe at either end; and the longest is about 340 cms ( 11' 2") . I am about 5' 8" tall.

    Imagine the cost for that uniform for a non musical member of a pipe band. They could have spent all that money on chanter reeds! 🤔

    The Drum Major is not entitled to wear the Sovereigns crown, unless he is part of a recognised British Military band. Otherwise it is an insult to the Queen.

      Michael Maynard Sorry to point out but that’s incorrect. Any other organizations officially authorized to use the Royal title or a “Queen’s own” title, such as the police, the Legion, the RSPCA, or the RSPBA etc, not just in Britain, but across the Commonwealth, are entitled to wear uniform accoutrements with Her Majesty’s Crown as well.

      faderty asa not really. It's a Semitic clothing that the Hebrew's and the Muslim's wore. If you look at his sash, he has occult imagery on it. That imagery came from the northern Israeli's when they were kicked out of Israel in 721 BC, well before Islam. The bagpipe is even mentioned in Dan 3:5. It's called the Dulcimer, but it's the same instrument. The 10 northern tribes were kicked out of Israel for their pagan practices, and those practices are immortalized in the occult imagery. One of the practices of the northern tribes was cutting down a tree, putting it up in one's house, and decorating it for the winter sun worship festival. They would have orgies that started when two people began kissing under mistletoe. How fun is that?
