To provide context: The tessen, or iron fan, was traditionally a tool used by samurai generals to direct their soldiers in battle, similar to the gunbai (another variety of war fan.) During this kata (form) you have to keep in mind that the tessen they used were solid iron, and could be quite sharp, its obviously an improvised weapon, and you'd have to be ridiculously skilled to actually use it, but there have been historical accounts of a few samurai using it to a surprisingly degree of effectiveness. The most famous of these men was Takeda Shingen, the daimyo of the Takeda clan during the Sengoku Jidai, and more or less the man who invented the cavalry charge in Japanese warfare. During this recount, he was actually fighting off Uesugi Kenshin, a man so talented in warfare that he was genuinely considered the mortal form of the GOD OF WAR. That being said it looks silly when its in kata, but considering its pretty much a solid iron cudgel with a possibly bladed edge, if you know what you were doing it wouldn't be impossible to fight someone off with it, though in the end a sword is a sword, and a fan is a fan, metal or not.
I've never seen a sharpened tessen. Was this really a thing? I've learned tessenjutsu from multiple schools of Katchu bujutsu, but never seen a technique reflect a bladed iron war fan.
So important to remember that kata are teaching tools for good technique and exploring how scenarios would go. It isnt an all encompassing technique in and of itself or a fight ending move. It is merely suggestions on how one could use a tessen when in combat against a sword. Which could happen in those eras.
You should be able to make fun of stuff, but you should be respectful of the original thing, such as traditional arts. Some parts can look funny, but i know its a well respected and time-honored art.
You know after watching this, and knowing some stuff about Demon Slayer franchise it gets me wonder on how Doma vs Kokushibo would fair in a casual fight. Fan vs Sword. That would be interesting to look at.
That's cute. I just read the entire series a few months ago and can't remember any of thier names. Real bujutsu (Katchu bujutsu) is shrouded in secrecy so this mindset of the samurai I'm teaching you is very obscure info.
@@Bemani-v9eIt's not of superiority of the technique within realistic situation, but because the ranking within the demons themselves which affects it. Due to Doma who is a Tessenjutsu user still ranked under Kokushibo who is a swordmaster within the world setting. Realistically, Douma may have the upper hand if you're saying the truth, but alas I'm talking about fictional characters. Thus the only way Doma would look like to be on par with Kokushibo when it comes to their technique, is when Kokushibo allowed Doma to have a fair chance against him.
Tessenjutsu.... wonderful!!!

I know a lot of people may be mocking this, it’s things like these that need to be respected and cherished. At the end of the day, it’s art.
So are pantings that look like a 3 year old splash paint on paper. This is culture
As long as you’re not counting on it to save your life in a real confrontation, enjoy it all you want. Not all art has value.
This is hilarious even though I know it's demonstration. He's like "oh you stopped my attack so here take my katana" no force or anything
Should not say that
@@legendsforeverr_imakid-2138 why
Because I feel like you're making fun of them

No samurai would willingly fight a sword versus iron war fan. This type of technique was a desperation move.
@@Bemani-v9e It's a different story when that blademaster in question is Kokushibo.

Oh this is where douma got his fan weapon idea
What was that part? at 4:33 My fan smells bad so guy steps back?
I'm a martial artist myself so...
Lol I thought that too 😅😅😅
The real thing has a sharp edge. In a real fight it would have taken your eyes out before you could retaliate with your sword.
Do you even know whats going on my guy
