    It's about Glycemic Index (GI), foods that contain low GI tend to dissolve slowly and hence delayed cravings. Foods with high GI index tend to dissolve in blood quickly hence cravings start earlier than expected.
    Secondly cravings can be delayed with high water intake.
    And yes, dates and figs have low GI index.
