As an employee with over 20 years, I’ve seen hiring standards go down….no drug tests, physicals, postal exam taken at home…..Amazon is taking advantage of us……Union fluff is killing us, people call in and no discipline!!!!!
Smartest comment I have read. I do believe that "respect", and having you and your effort appreciated need to be prioritized over everything else. Nobody wants to work 60 hours per week with only 1 day off every other week. Obviously, you have no life, but just going to a job that could care less about you is not any way to keep morale and workers from not quitting (and coming home safe). I believe that should be the the primary goal. It starts at the top, in Washington, and eventually things will get better.
The USPS has a Contract with Amazon. When they signed that Contract it included Sunday Deliveries. I've never seen where Amazon Parcles have taken Priority over any First Class Packages. I will admit it was a Very Bad Contract. The Prior Female Postmaster General is to Blame. The USPS basically gets nothing out of it. They actually are losing money.
Just for reference, prior to the retirement boom and pandemic, CCAs either worked long hours or** barely could get 20. Regulars worked their own assignments or straight up 8, unless ODL. Life was balanced, save for the cca but it was better than now.
I have worked for the post office for years now. I am starting to think I am one of the few who still Love my job. I think of it like I am getting paid to exercise. Am I having to work a lot of extra hours? Sure, but I am on the city side so I get paid for every hour I put in which makes for a very nice paycheck. And sure there are some negatives of the job: dogs, sometimes the weather just as there are negatives with any job. But I would take my job over sitting behind a desk anyday. I am going to do the best possible job I can and leave the rest in God's hands.
Why can’t the United States Postal Service be like UPS and give people two days off a week and it will be OK to work people 10 to 12 hours a day but give them their two days off a week and the Usps is not doing that.
Any postal employees - we are not allowed to strike but the last resort is medical restrictions! I encourage everyone to do so, force management to hire because it’s beyond obvious that they are more than competent with the slave work current employees are doing.
Ours did too until last August. Amazon opened their own small delivery hub about 10 miles away so they mostly do their own now in our area. Our package volume dropped around 40%.
They are not hiring. They have been trying to cut the number of routes down since 2015 when I started . Quit having desk jockeys from district ,who are not from the locations, decide local immediate issues. The union is in their pocket and does nothing even though usps continues to violate the contract. They say the postal service is it’s own organization but how can it be it’s own organization if congress has to decide to bail it out, when and how to operate, what type of retirement plan, etc. let’s quit pretending the usps is not part of the government. The people of the USA have the ultimate say on the way the operation works. Let’s fix it but people also need to quit expecting everything in like 1 day. I am pretty sure letters, packages, etc. took way longer to get across the country back in the day. Also, we need to reform the last mile system. USPS is has no oversight, ups covers labels on purpose(to not get cherged), Amazon drops off anywhere from small to giant, heavy parcels that we don’t even know what’s in it(could be harmful, corrosive, deadly chemicals)and could weigh anything but we trust them to be honest.
Amazon pays X per package, so it makes perfect sense to have USPS deliver all their big packages. The UNION contract is being violated every day and $$ is bejng payed out in grievances but it continue to occurs. They have to keep hiring because nobody wants to or can work 60+ hrs a week withot knowing when their next day off will be.
I call on congress to investigate hours paid vs hours worked in the NRLCA craft.... If hours worked exceed hours worked please explain why... Likewise if hours paid exceed hours worked explain why... Also how much time is a carrier given per package for delivery and are they always fully insured when delivering the package...
Still waiting for my package it was supposed to be overnight still not here. Was mailed Friday supposed to be here Saturday. It's Monday now only thing it says is departed from USPS facility Sunday. And nothing else sense. This is the 3rd time now.
Go apply at your local station and deliver it to yourself. Get the memo - short staffed and horrible management = unmotivated and overworked employees who don’t give a damn. They’ll put in a happy face and do the best they can but it’s out of their control if the package never arrived at the station or is too exhausted to keep going after 12 hrs every damn day.

Maybe if the USPS would treat the people better there wouldn't be this problem!! Treat people how you want to be treated!!! Bottom line!!

This is only the beginning of the mess in the USPS 😩
I'm working minimum 60 hours a week. We are short staffed but the workers who come to work, work very hard!
Just for reference, prior to the retirement boom and pandemic, CCAs either worked long hours or** barely could get 20.

worked for PO for 30 years was always told all amazon packages where to be delivered first over all other mail.Main problem is management.
Yep. I have seen Postal workers at 8 pm at nightish...want to give them a cup of hot chocolate!!!!
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is destroying the post office.
Let's get Kamala Harris on it. Ha Ha Ha.

Dysfunctional and corrupt since the 1970s . What special skills, talents and abilities are needed .

If you do that you,ll have to make 2 package runs on Monday maybe 3 . One person can only do so much

Yeah, you should see some of the people they’re bringing in. They’re not hiring based on QUALITY
That statement from the NALC is about as weak a statement that can be made. That sounded like a USPS official rather than a Union rep.
💯💯💯
Don't forget companies can get their mail delivered for free. That is free mail delivery. No one address that. The mail volume has gone up since 2000.
14 pallets is nothing, our offices does 300+ scans a day per route like a walk in the park.

Same, easily 10-12hrs EVERY Sunday now, ontop of the 60+ hours Mon-Sat (and we aren't even in peak yet)
This is so true!!!!
Agreed! I use to work for the USPS! I’ve seen it.

Sound like your union leaders have taken the money congratulations.
