- Elizabeth was written by Jimmy Fortune ( a former member of the Statler Brothers from 1982 to 2002 ) . The Statler Brothers recorded it in 1983 and it rose to number one on the Billboard Hot Country singles. It has recently been covered by Dailey and Vincent. However, I prefer the heart-felt sound of Jimmy Fortune and it appears in his 2003 album When One Door Closes.
My precious granddaughter was named after ( this ) beautiful Elizabeth ❤

I absolutely love this song and have ever since it came out. It is beautiful but it is sad. At the very time it came out, I lost my precious basset hound, Buster, so always every time I heard it I would think of my Buster, it makes me teary eyed. Thanks so much for sharing. I have the Dailey and Vincent CD of them doing The Statler songs and this on it. It is great. Take care. Gwen

This beautiful song takes me back to a time when I was hurting from my marriage falling apart and I was suffering through all the pain that Divorce brings. My dr. said what I felt was worse than Death! With death ,they leave without choosing to leave.. divorce is cold and cruel and you see them leave because they no longer care! Nothing like walking through that dark valley, and you barely have the strength to take another breath.Anyone who knows this pain, God hold onto you until you find the strength to be on your own again! 🕊
