Tragic Love Song of Destiny always stood out to me - it changed my perspective of Kikyo as a bitter villainess Rather she became as the title says - tragic Everything in her life was outside her control and the only time she chose to do something of her own choosing, to love, she was struck where it hurt - seemingly by the man she came to love…and in the same day dying with that anger and bitterness the last thing of her mortal life. Then she was brought back with those feeling as fresh as the last day of her life; to learn the truth, her mercy and pity for a unknown bandit would start the series of events that not only led to her death but the curse and deaths of countless people Imagine what was going through her mind when she realized it…her mercy, her pity, and her love - the only times she chose to act on her own accord resulted with the calamity that is Naraku. How can you not sympathize?
@@mysticdragonwolf89 then you clearly dont understand her. she literally tried to kill inuyasha , STOLE THE SOULS OF INNOCENT YOUNG WOMEN AND BURNED THEM UP INSIDE HERSELF AS A FUEL SOURCE. THOSE GIRLS DIDNT GO TO HEAVEN OR HELL , because kikiyo CONSUMED THEM. the remaining souls inside her had to be RIPPED OUT by someone else. she tried to kill kagome more times than i can count. she GAVE THE SHIKON TO TAMA SHARDS TO NARAKU. like come on. did you really grow up or are you still the stupid child who cant understand that LIFE IS ABOUT CHOICES and kikiyo CHOSE to be a worthless piece of shit after her resurrection. she could have just said "hey kagome , we are kinda the same person.... we literally are. though life has made me how i am , id like to pass on to heaven knowing you are here with inuyasha. so part of me might be able to love him as well , the way id...we'd always hoped." it would have been SO BEAUTIFUL if they actually had moments like this. but shocker , shitty romance is what you brain dead females like. yeah i can tell youre all girls because only the most idiotic of girls think kagome isnt the most insufferable miserable and immature bitch to ever walk the animated earth. CHILDREN and the IMMATURE like her because you think "well if that happened to be id be a piece of shit too" when real mature woman think "bitch needs to learn to communicate her feelings" im ranting now. uhg i hate how few females i as a female , can talk to about this. you simpy girl crush having idiots ruin so much anime by people pandering to your dog water sensibilities
Out all of Kikyo's mourners and loved ones, it is Kaede I will pity the most because unlike Inuyasha, Kagome, and the others Kikyo was all she had. Her parents were dead, she had no husband, no children, no grandchildren, Kikyo was the only family she had left. What's even sadder is that Kaede was a child when Kikyo died the first time and had to grow up alone and now she has to be alone until she dies. I really wish Kikyo had spent more time with Kaede before she finally passed on.
I don’t think Inuyasha had anyone else either besides Kikyo. I doubt you can say he had his brother. That’s why they fell in love since they both felt alone, or that was part of the reason.
I don't really think it's that sad. Kaede may not have family but she's not alone at all. She is surrounded by friends that love her all the same such as Kagome and the rest and the villages that rely and depend on her. Kaede doesn't strike as someone who even tried to find someone to be with nor was interested in doing such. She seems to be pretty content with her life who hasn't regretted too many choices in her life. At most she may wish she had more power to help her sister but time has obviously healed that wound as she begs Kikyo to return to death right at the moment she meets her sister and not once trys to reclaim the time she had lost. Granted she doesn't attempt to force the issue as she is compelled to respect her older sister, regardless of her status as living or dead, and provides Kikyo with any assistance she asks for which was only ever information on Naraku. She has had some sad experiences in life but it's never really stopped her from living. Life moved on, time passed, friends came and went, and Kaede became so strong and wise as she grew older. I imagine she was very happy and never thought of her life or it's hardships as tragic at all. Just events that were merely chapters in her life. She isn't going to die alone as she isn't alone at all. There are plenty of people who'll remember Kaede as more than just a village priestess or some old lady and plenty more that'll attend her funeral and mourn her passing and eventually like time does move on and continue their lives being richer for even knowing Kaede. No one's life is determined if it was wonderful or tragic by loss and lack of family but by the people's lives they have touched, impacted, and shared a connection with.
Not really. Even after Kikyo was resurrected, she never spent any time with Kaede. Her death doesn’t really change the dynamics of her life at all. Her only knowledge of Kikyo was from second hand accounts from the gang.
Kikiyos last tear is what hit me. Her last thought was the person she loved betrayed her and tried to kill her. Now on her final goodbye, she got to know that the man she loved was still the same person she fell in love with. People don’t like her character too much but this moment finally put her mind to rest. She was never evil, just angry. She always had the greater good in mind.
It's just sad how their love back when she was still alive was so fragile for somebody like Naraku to easily tore them apart. They never face ups and downs the way Inuyasha did with Kagome, those trials is what made their love stronger compared to what he had with Kikyo. This tragedy proves that love without any obstacles was weak.
She’s died 3 times and Inuyasha had to watch her die 3 times. Honestly, Kikyo’s story is the most tragic so I understand why she was full of hatred in the beginning and everyone thinks she’s toxic. Personally, I sympathize with Kikyo. She was in love. She was “betrayed”. She died still consumed in hatred. She’s resurrected against her will and sees the man who “betrayed” her with a new girl. I’d be bitter as hell too. The reason why we see Kikyo being torn between a villain and a good person is because: she’s a complex character. Probably the most complex character in the series. And I appreciate complex characters. I know her jealousy was dragged on a lot but nobody ever attacks Inuyasha for literally running after her all the time. They just attack the woman and not the man who is pursuing her. Not saying Inuyasha is a cheater but he too, was struggling with his feelings. Just like Kikyo. So that double standard always bothered me. Nonetheless, if you watch other scenes where it’s just her interacting with other villagers, she can be very kind hearted. The Mt. Hakurei arc really showed us how kind she is. There’s a scene where Kikyo meets Monk Hakushin for the first time and it’s so beautiful. Her speech to him, the way she ended his long suffering, and helped him pass in peace?? Underrated. I think a lot of ppl gloss over that scene. Not to mention, she really redeemed herself in The Final Act. Even after her death, she was able to save Kohaku and literally everyone. She’s the reason why Kohaku is alive. She gave up the only way to kill Naraku because she knew, the right choice was to save Kohaku. Truly a unique, complex character I had the pleasure of growing up with. I truly miss her. Even though I don’t ship her with Inuyasha, they were still each other’s first love. I could feel the years of pain through that last kiss. I’m just glad they were able to have closure and she was sent off with love. This is why I don’t like Kikyo slander. I just have a soft spot for her. I hope ppl can understand her a bit more.
@@dangokissu 1st Life: Midoriko, Ancient Priestess/Miko, Heian Period of Japan, Ancient/Prehistoric Era, 1000 yrs ago 2nd Life: Kikyo, Medieval Priestess/Miko, Sengoku Period of Japan, Feudal Era, 500 yrs ago 3rd Life: Kagome, Modern Priestess/Miko, present day Tokyo, Japan, Modern Era
The reason why this kiss and these tears were harder than Kagome's is because Kikyou was Inuyasha's first love, and the guilt trip that he carried over her death was on his shoulders for so long.. And even the fact that their love never was able to happen and flourish, was very, very hard on him. Seriously. That kiss was Life.. One of the saddest and most beautiful kisses in anime (in my opinion). I cry every time. T-T
Viviana Del Mar I just finished watching this episode and I’m still crying now. This scene broke me to pieces. Poor Kikyo. She was my favorite character and I feel so bad for her 😢. But she can finally Rest In Peace now
No Name okay that is another thing that’s totally off topic, but yeah I agree with you. They’re married and he still has those beads. Is Inuyasha not scared that Kagome is still gonna abuse him with the word “Sit”
I just weeped when she apologized to kaede. Kaede endured so much pain during those years and Kikyo’s revival brought them back up again. The story is so tragic between the 2 even if it wasn’t developed enough
I think they needed to change the story of inuyasha and put inuyasha and kikyo to be married and make themselves a new family and bear children , why can't they just do that ? Kikyo is a tragic woman and she wants him back that's all , right ? In my country we let the lovers be together .
It's weird how my appreciation and understanding of Kikyou grew as I grew older and went through relationships as well. Kagome, Kikyou and Inuyasha's relationship and how each handled is a lot easier to understand now vs when I was a little kid just rooting for the first main pairing I saw. Feel sad that their suffering had to drag out so long but it's also nice to see them reconcile their misunderstandings and anger. ; - ;
Couldn't of said it better myself I'm watching the final act for the first time didn't understand all this when I was 13 now that I'm 32 holy shit does this scene hit hard
Not gonna lie here, when final act came out I was 11 and this scene made me cry and it hurt so much. Now that I'm 21 I haven't experienced such deep emotion like in this scene. Wow
Narendaran Bommannan but nope. The writers had to nerf Kikyo by killing her not once, not twice, but 3 fuckin times. She will always be my favorite character from Inuyasha. I just finished watching this episode and this scene broke me into pieces. I feel so bad for Kikyo. But she can finally Rest In Peace now 😢
Technically Kikyo’s wish was granted, she was reincarnated in the modern world & lived as a normal girl until she came back to to past to finish her task & to be with Inuyasha as Kagome. But I’m glad that part of her soul found peace
Kappei Yamaguchi (Inuyasha) also voices Ranma Saotome (male) which Ranma 1/2 is also a Rumiko work. Satsuki Yukino (Kagome) voices Mion and Shion Sonozaki from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, and holy shit the voice switching is insane bro, from girly to genki type voices. And then theres Noriko Hidaka (Kikyo) who voices Eua from Higurashi and Akane from Ranma. I don't even really like Akane that that much, Kikyo is like, my favorite anime character but she can go from a God wanting to be entertained to a tsundere to Kikyo, which I can't describe her character without putting a literal paragraph. So yeah, that's why the voices are good. They are indeed talented individuals.
Kaede and Kikyos relationship so sad she wanted to make her sister so proud and loved her and Kaede wanted her sister to know how much she loves her and kikyo can never forgive herself for the pain she caused her & this is the second time she mourned her sisters death This is show is really sad
This was an emotionally impacting scene, even to this day. Though her actions were in question due to her hatred, she was still a woman of virtue and grace. It’s something about Kikyo’s character that makes this more impacting, from her rebirth to her passing. Words can’t convey how much emotion this moment can give.
Shadowflame099 exactly. I just finished watching this episode and I’m still crying now. This scene broke me into pieces. Kikyo deserves so much better. She had the most saddest backstory of all the characters in Inuyasha, Dattebayo
I know everyone disliked kikyo character in the beginning because of the whole ship and the way she was but if you were in her shoes you’d understand why she was like the way she was. Not being able to live a normal life having to bare a responsibility. Dying and feeling betrayed. All the pain she experienced made her bitter about life. But in the end Kikyo was able to let go of all those things and move on.
Well i have to say I didn't like Kikyo at first, she had this cold actittude with everyone like she was the bad guy but watching Inuyasha from 1 episode until the end I finally could understand her...she had a a tragic life but at the end she found the peace she deserved...I love Kikyo... RIP Kiyko, you're finally and ordinary woman...😢😢😭😭
@Jessica Adams Kikyo asked him, never forced inuyasha into anything. He agreed to it, not only inuyasha wanted to change to be accepted, kikyo wanted it too. The responsibility it was too much to bear for her alone. She wanted to love and be loved freely. Besides kagome was never alone, even while looking for the fragments she never had to bear that responsibility by herself. People didn't look up to her all the time for protection and when she felt overwhelmed she went back to her timeline. After what kikyo though what inuyasha did, she never brought herself to kill Inuyaha. Ever wonder why kikyo used a seal arrow instated of a purified one? what i want to say, it's that kagome never felt the need to change anything about herself. She grew up in a house full all love and family.
Watching this again as an adult, I realize how much of the emotional turmoil I missed as a kid. This is my favorite part of Inuyasha because it closes the book on the most important aspect of the show in my opinion which was the relationship between Inuyasha and Kikyo. Neither of them could really move on from what Naraku did until about this point in the show and you get to see how important both of them were to each other. Like you get it, sure, but I don't think you GET it until this scene. Inuyasha can move forward with his life and Kikyo can finally rest in peace. Regardless of my individual opinions of Kikyo, Inuyasha or the rest, I truly believe this is the most beautiful scene of the show.
“You came for me, that’s enough “ -Kikyo These words broke me 💔😭 even though I didn’t ship Inuyasha and Kikyo, I’d still felt and understood their pain and struggles in trying to be together. Sad thing is that all she wanted was to live a normal life with her love ones, but fate just didn’t want to grant her wish. Even after death, all she wanted was to love and see Inuyasha. P.s. Kikyo and Kagome isn’t the same person. They share the same soul, but they are two different person. So please respect and understand that whoever Inuyasha ends up with isn’t the same person. Thank you
A human is the physical manifestation of a soul. Sure, Kikyo and Kagome are separate human beings, but they basically share the same soul. They are indeed the same
I think she become Kagome and cameback to live with Inuyasha because The jewel of four soul, she don’t make a wish that she want to live with him but in the deep down, she wished it. And the jewel of for soul, can make a wish for last person and do it.
Their love for each other is genuine but it took a deception from Naraku to destroy it, so I think that their love isn't that strong. His relationship with Kagome took lots of trials and hardships to test how strong their love for each other and unfortunately, Kikyo was only there to be that obstacle.
I don’t care what anyone says. Kikyo was and has always been my favorite character in this show. And she deserved so much better than everything that happened to her. Everything that happened to her was so fucking unfair.
I though Kikyo’s soul would go back to Kagome but I guess that last bit left was her unique consciousness that needed to finally be at rest and peace. She had such a tragic life. I really wanted her to be the one to kill Naraku :(
The old witch that resurrected Kikyō she said that some of her sold returned to the girl from where it came because when she found out that Kikyō was already reCarnation thru kagome Kikyō didn’t find out that Naraku was one who killed her later on which inuyasha already found out earlier During the season first
Kikyo has always been my favorite female character in the show even back when I first started watching it in middle school. I can really feel the depth of the sorrow and pain between Kikyo and Inuyasha in this scene but I think that is part of what makes their love so beautiful.
Kikyo's character was my fav among the rest. The deepest one, the complicated one, yet you'll learned so much to her character. Everything about her was incredible inspiring. I just can't explain but her character really struck me and realizing so many things in life. I just love her.
The fact that some people think Kagome is suffering the most in this scene because of the kiss WHILE KIKYO IS LITERALLY DYING and Inuyasha is saying goodbye to his first (true imo) love is ridiculous to me I--
I suppose if I watched this as a teenager and had the distorted idea of what love that many do at that age (not all, but most, and this isn’t a bad thing- just lack of life experiences) I might be like that. But as an adult, Kikyo became my favorite character of the whole series. As an adult, I can appreciate the relationship her and Inuyasha had that I couldn’t see when I was younger.
Wait wait I think Kagome is suffering, but not because of da Kiss. Dat would be a lil selfish don’t you think. When some ppl say she Also Suffered is because she couldn’t save Kikyō and cuz she couldn’t save her for Inuyasha who she cared for the most. Cuz remember she accepted that Kikyō was already Inuyasha First Love...soo whoever said she suffered from a damn kiss is Really dumb. Like cmon she’s literally dying...
Kikyo and inuyasha's relationship is so complex and hits so close to home - if you've ever experienced a connection and love so strong that it still haunts you to this day (what could've been and what can never happen) no wonder they never got over each other until the end
When I was a child and watched Inuyasha for the first time, I couldn’t resist Kikyo.. but now, after so many years I feel that her character was one of the most honest and lovely ones... when you see the show as a child you feel for Kagome but as an adult you start to question yourself..
It’s so strange even as a child I always loved Kikyo more and still do lol. Now as an adult I’m starting to understand Kagomes side and let go of the “ship”. They are one in the same, kikyo and kagome.
Back when I first watched this. I was like: "Oh that's sad. She's dying." I'll admit I'm not much of a Kikyo fan. Only now do I realize how hard this actually hits. Inuyasha and Kikyo's love is a very tragic one. Separated by death, lies and hatred, you could only wish that these two be given a second chance once they found the truth behind Naraku's deception. But no, she had to die once again. What makes it more frustrating is that she calmly accepted her demise while assuring Inuyasha that she had no regrets. From his standpoint, Inuyasha failed to protect Kikyo not once but twice. I can't probably imagine the depths of his despair and frustration, holding his first love very gently, like a very fragile thing, until the bitter end. This is probably the best representation of "star-crossed lovers". As if the world conspired to take these two apart at all costs.
I think the souls that flew off into the sky were the souls Kikyo "borrowed" from other women to keep her body....and when Kagome goes "Its so warm" (the only one who does so) is Kagomes piece going back to her!
kikyo is one of the best female anime characters i have ever seen. and the most tragic one. she was truly beauteous, dignified, pure, and gentle, yet she led such a tragic life. she was entrusted with a duty that no one else but her could do, thus she was not able to live as an ordinary woman, find an ordinary love, and become happy. it irritates me how, most people in the comments, are blaming her for everything - though, truth be said, i understand where you are coming from. back when i was a kid, without knowing anything, i hated kikyo for no logic reason, thinking she was just a disturbance who separated inuyasha from kagome. now that i am 16 years old and re-watched it from the very beginning, i understood everything. kikyo was not one to blame. she trusted inuyasha so much, she did not even give the beads she already prepared for inuyasha (episode 147-148) because she believed, with all her heart, that inuyasha would not do any more bad deeds. however, it was as natural as breathing when she thought inuyasha betrayed her. she was born with a spiritual power, known as the great priestess. once she let her guard down, demon would take advantage on her. thus she grew up trusting no one, dealing with demons who came after the sacred jewel all the time, until she met inuyasha. when naraku manipulated both of them, it was natural for her to feel betrayed by her first love. yet, even though she cursed inuyasha, even though she was angered and died in despise and hatred towards inuyasha, deep inside her heart, she still loved inuyasha. that love was eternal, a love remaining through two lifetimes and even after her death. also, please do remember that she could have just killed inuyasha with the sacred arrow, yet she did not do it. she shoot the arrows of sealing, in the brink of her death (if you watch a certain episode which kagome saw an illusion of that fateful day, we could know that it was just a scene of sadness, no hatred at all, just a pure sadness, and kikyo was crying and hugging inuyasha - it felt like she was sunk deeply in her feelings of love and uncertain, and that was truly painful.) all she had ever wanted was just to become an ordinary woman and live happily with those whom she held so dear, yet everyone trampled on her life - cursed her to have a tragic death if she ever falls in love, manipulated her, and brought her back to life with a body that was no longer human. some people said that she should just drop dead since she was already dead - actually, she would, if it were not for her duty. she knew she was a living corpse, but she could not die just yet. she still had something she should do in that world. she accomplished her duty to protect the sacred jewel and help people along her way even though she was already dead. she was not brought back to life by her own will, so it was not her fault. when she told kagome that she should just go back to her era, it was not out of anything bad. for people who thought she was a bad character in her first appearance, that was only because she was revived as an evil spirit. that urasue revived her angered soul, filled with hatred towards inuyasha. but, as times went on, she became more and more like her past self, and she forgave. not just that, she should have been the one who was hurt the most, yet she never hated kagome for taking everything from her. she never blamed kagome for what happened, instead, kagome kept continuously spreading her jealousy, always looked at inuyasha and kikyo being together with an expression of annoyance. kikyo was never like that. she let inuyasha be with kagome, because she definitely knew her place. she did not give in to her selfishness. and the beads in which she should have given it to inuyasha, was finally used by kagome. despite everything, she trusted kagome to the very end. that is why i truly cannot understand why all of you people kept talking bad about kikyo - it almost felt like you are even worse than onigumo or naraku. also, do not forget the fact that kikyo had saved many people's lives, as well as kohaku's. the kindness inside her was infinite. i am not hoping for you to love kikyo, but stop badmouthing her. do not be unreasonable and childish. i wanted to say something more, but i think i should just stop. anywise, please excuse my rudeness.
I read every word and I agree Unfortunately I used to be in that boat BUT that was before I had relationships, healed some and burned some, I have scars and have left them. I grew to love Kikyou because I felt she was like me - capable of kindness and evil as much as humans are capable of yet choosing to be herself and not let WHAT she is define WHO she is. She was dead, yet living; she was made of grave yard soil and bones, yet she could bleed; she could’ve let Naraku kill her, let his miasma disintegrate her to ash; yet she choose to fight and live, putting her life in the hands of her reincarnation - a person whose views and feels and modern drama high school spirit could’ve just as easily let her die. I’m willing to even go so far to say Kikyou bit her pride as a timeless immortal and accepted she was mortal and a human, and such need help and reached out to ask for it as a human
I'm glad this is coming from someone who used to hate kikyo. From both parts of the tragic love song of destiny episodes (2nd time I ever watched inuyasha before becoming hooked to it) I always shipped kikyo and inuyasha and was always annoyed by kagome because she'd always get jealous the moment kikyo even gets brought up, not to mention the fact that she abused the hell out of her power when it came to those sit commands when the beads were originally meant to protect against rage and evil. Kagome used them necessarily most times. I bet anyone else that used to hate kikyo as a child will have a different opinion sinxe were all adults now
You werent being rude you were being correct and I couldn't have said it any better myself thank you for this 😊 (even though when I first saw inuyasha I automatically loved kikyo and inuyasha and disliked kagome but I also wish that inukik and kogakag(only time I liked her) had happened.
They both showed their jealousy in different ways. Kikyo did by being incredibly petty and spiteful in nearly every interaction she had with Kagome, and never being grateful whenever Kagome helped or saved her, and Kagome showed it by getting moody towards Inuyasha. Remember for a while, Kikyo’s ultimate goal was to destroy the jewel AND then find a way to kill Inuyasha so they could be united in death together. So she may not have been outwardly pursuing them, but that certainly wasn’t because she had ceded ground to Kagome. Also, the fact that Kikyo could not understand why Kagome would save her on multiple occasions indicates that Kikyo would not have done the same if the situation was reversed.
I love how even Sesshomaru thought of her. This scene was heartbreakingly perfect. How all she ever wanted was to be released from duty and to just be a woman in her lovers arms. In her last moments she was allowed to even sound girlie, her voice softer. Her smile. She even allowed herself to cry.
Just rewatched this since it first aired. Hits completely different as a 30 year old man, who now understands unconditional romantic love. And the pain of losing loved ones in death. Haven't cried like this in years, feel like such a sap haha. Inuyasha will always be my favorite manga/anime.
kikyo was truly such a well written character in inuyasha. i hated her at first too because i saw her as an interference, but learning more about her backstory and seeing her character development really changed my perspective of her. like the last scene showed, she was truly had such a bright soul, she was so kind to everyone and she literally did everything to help anyone even if she didn’t know them that well. she truly made an impact on everyone’s lives. she truly deserved so much better but at least she can finally rest at ease now
The first time she died she had such bitterness and despair. I didn’t know to such an extent till I rewatched her story a second time. I’m glad she was brought back to life. She found the peace she was looking for for a long time... RIP Kikyo
Man it’s sad seeing Inuyasha admit he was willing to give up all his power just to be with Kikyo and have a place to belong and Kikyo was going to be able to be with him too because the jewel would be gone. Then Naraku messed it all up.
Actually, Naraku in a messed up, roundabout way kind of saved them, because the jewel doesn’t really grant the wish requested of it. Either there would have been some horrible catch to Inuyasha becoming human, or Kikyo would have been sucked into the jewel to fight demons for eternity, or both.
@Jessica Adams I agree, Kikyo was a tragic character, but she wanted to change him. Kagome didn't want that for him, she accepted inuyasha the way he was. So many people don't realize that it was a shitty thing that Kikyo was trying to do.
@Jessica Adams you can say the same thing about Inuyasha. He forced Kagome to choose between himself and her family. Plus Kikyo asked Inuyasha to become a human so he can FINALLY live a peaceful life. What she chose for him was the best. Look at what happened to the characters in the new spin off anime because they continue fighting a getting into troubles.
@Jessica Adams I'm with you on this. As an InuKik shipper, I agree that it was kind of a self-centered wish on Kikyo's part to want Inuyasha to relinquish his demon powers and live a mortal life with her, but I guess it was so they'd both be regular humans and can live the same life span. Kikyo would die way before Inuyasha would and he was willing to give up longevity and the perks of being immortal to be with the woman he loves.
I dont think I've ever cried harder at a scene than Kikiyos death. She was such a tragic character and I dont think I fully liked her at the start. But the way her story went and she was fleshed out over the course of the show was just done brilliantly imo.
I really love the comments saying things like the love between Inuyasha and Kikyo was not 'true love' and that Kikyo was selfish to ask him to change. If it was not true love, Kikyo's soul would not have been reborn with the jewel. Kikyo asked Inuyasha if he would be willing to become a human so they could live a relatively normal life together, just moments before she asked him if he was tired of fighting. For someone who was ostracized all his life, I imagine Inuyasha was very tired of fighting - whether it was against demons, or even humans - - fighting to find his own place where he belonged.
Lmao they're just jealous that kikyo won in the end through kagome...she technically gets to be with inuyasha, and that makes them f*cking mad. That's just how cool kikyo is. B*tches just can't keep her name outta their mouth. 🤷🏻♀️
What I love about this show is that they never made his love all black and white. Even though he loves Kagome his feelings for Kikyo never faded away. It’s been portrayed so incredibly realistic. You don’t just stop loving a person, life just gets in the way, things get complicated, you can’t undo it and you eventually find someone less complicated. But you don’t love the other person any less. This scene is such a tragic but beautiful portrayal. He didn’t declare his love for her half-heartedly but still loved her with all his heart.
Really, I just re-read the manga because of the new sequel thats coming out on October 3rd and pains me to say this but I feel like his love for her did fade away. Its so sad. Their meeting went from lustful couple in love to that of comrade. Later on before she died for the last time you have Inuyasha thinking to himself that" I'll avenge you but thats all I could do for you" and telling Kagome " I never hug kikyo when I see her". I don't understand how people could feel bad for Kagome when she has everything Kikyo ever wanted. Kikyo died and got hurt many times because that ass of Inuyasha choose to go after Kagome than kikyo even in circumstances that he KNEW there where people around to save Kagome while Kikyo had no one but him.
lulu07 Kikyo intentionally kept herself distant from the group and kept her meetings with Inuyasha strictly platonic. Half the time they didn’t even know where she was or that she was present until it was too late lol. She only has herself to blame for any of that.
Jessica Adams they could never be happy together after all. She accepted her destiny but he still has a chance. If you truly love someone you put their happiness first.
@Jessica Adams no that's exactly the opposite I meant. You asked why she wanted to travel alone instead of Inuyasha. The answer is because she loves him so much that she let him go. He would've followed her anywhere, but there was not future of them being together. He was meant to stay with Kagome who he had a chance of happiness with.

The man loved her so very much, bro. I haven't cried like that at an anime scene in a long time. He had to watch her die three times. He probably blamed his half-demon existence on it too, which just made it so much more upsetting for him.
2:52 that star in the sky as they kissed = STAR CROSSED LOVERS... I JUST NOTICED THIS.... ugh, HOLY FUCK... BRB GONNA GO CRY IN A CORNER. Im not okay. 🥺🥺🥺💔
The second time I watched it I already understand kikyo and her whole life she's really been suffer from pain.. I think of all the girls here in inuyasha Rin must be the luckiest......
4:03 The dub changed the last two lines for Inuyasha, but both versions give off strong vibes of sadness that resonate with me. After all this time, Kikyo finally passes on. And being a fan of Inuyasha since preschool, this is still a sight that get the tears flowing and hairs on my head standing.
MJ the Photographer I got curious and watched the online dubbed version on VIZ. The dub turned out to have a more accurate translation of what Inuyasha is saying in the last two lines. I guess different people working on the translation leads to these things.
Was the correct one she would protect us forever or I wanted to protect her forever? To me it makes more sense him saying he wanted to protect her forever.
Huh, I never used subs (am Japanese) so I didn’t notice until I saw this clip, but the sub is a little off. Inuyasha said “Kikyo isn’t suffering anymore, she will protect us forever” in Japanese, and didn’t say “I wanted to protect her forever.” Now I wonder how many of these differences there are in these subtitles
That ruined it but it makes sense because how can he protect her if she already died? But at the same time if he said he wanted to protect her forever that sounds way more sweet
Aside from Kagura's death, seeing Kikyo's death in the Final Arc opened up a whole can of tears as we see her demise again and this time it stuck. At lease we finally see Kikyo and Inuyasha have a sense of closure that was robbed of them back 50 years ago in their timeline. A sad episode and the music used in her scene emphasized it that much more.
I just got back to watching it since I couldn’t find anywhere else to watch the remaining seasons, and now I’m finally on The Final Act and just finished watching this episode and now I’m still crying cuz this scene crushed me to pieces. Poor Kikyo. I feel so bad for her 😢
Same here! I remember watching this anime more than 18 years ago and it impacted me as a child although my awareness wasn't as developed as it is now. Re-watching this scene now that I'm 29y it hits the soul, it is gives me a whole new understanding and my tears are just an expression of my heart. I wish there was more animes like this.
4:03 episode 15 flash back. That was when inuyasha fell in love with kikyo. He was the only one who saw kikyo for what she really was just an ordinary person. Not some divine priestess who was forced to guard the jewel, but a teenage girl who beared the responsibilities of protecting so many others. He wanted to protect her forever. " she was always by my side and I, by her's". He related to her as someone who was alone himself, and who constantly had to fend for hinself. I think that's depicts their relationships better than ever. They weren't just lovers, for a short time, they became each others companion, each others family before naraku tore that apart. To be "human" was to stop fighting. To get marry and forget their violent fates. When they both thought they were betrayed, it was like they both thought they stood each other up at the alter. Oooo the bitterness of it....😭
I remember watching Inuyasha when I was like 13. Maybe even younger. I'm 27 now. This series is, by far, one of the most tragic in anime... Edit: especially with Dearest, one of the original songs, playing in the background. OMG.
I understand dude I am 26 now, and i remember being up at like midnight maybe 1 in the morning when I was 8-10 years old watching this show. The music is the most nostalgic for me. Just reminds me of better days, before everything went to shit you know
@AsianInvasian I was that age as well, turned 27 two months ago...glad I'm not alone feeling this show. The song in the background is what did it for me. Remember watching the credits loving all the Inuyasha songs as a kid 😔
29 now... and holy shit this is one anime that still to this day hits me so deep. I still cry watching some episodes (obviously this one in particular ) make me sob like a kid/teenager all over again. Kikyo is a character who kinda pushed me to be a better person. Oddly enough.
It still hits me like I'm watching it for the first time... You knew it had to be coming but still...you weren't quite prepared for it. Poor thing was cheated outta her life and was brought back to suffer once more... Never held anything against you Kikyo... Rest easy beautiful warrior ❤
There is very strong Buddhist undertones around Kikyo’s life and death. I think that in her death, she’s finally found the peace, nirvana, of the extinguishing of existence. May the Dharma guide you on your final journey.
No matter how many times I read/saw this scene, tears always gets me. Kikyou, true to her name, loved Inuyasha even through three deaths. That is poignantly beautiful and tragic simultaenously.
I saw this scene as more bittersweet, she was destined to die and move on because Kagome exists! So without her death Kagome simply wouldn't be there. I saw it as her soul moving onto wherever it goes before being reborn, so someday the Kikyo we saw there will be reborn as Kagome as she will get to go on all those adventures and finally have her man :> It's still sad but her story isn't over, she will finally get to live as an ordinary girl and be with the man she loves. She's got a bright future ahead of her filled with happiness!
This is the anime that is difficult for me to watch again because I strongly felt it ended in a tragedy. I just can't get over the fact that Kikyo and Inuyasha did not end up together. They were soulmates and they perfectly fit each other.
If it makes you feel better technically she gets to live the life she wants with the love of her life through kagome. She literally went through Nirvana and achieved a new life...to see inuyasha again. Thats what makes inuyasha and kikyo an amazing couple, they would both be willing to go through Nirvana and enter a new life just to be together again...that's more romantic that inuyasha and kagomes romance lol.
Kikyo did get to live happily with InuYasha though, through Kagome. Kagome is who Kikyo would have been had she been born a normal girl instead of a priestess burdened with the task of protecting the Shikon jewel. People keep saying they’re nothing alike, and it’s true they are different, but at their core they really are the same stubborn, determined, strong, clever, and unfailingly compassionate woman. The fact that Kagome exists as Kikyo’s reincarnation meant that she could never truly live in that form, but even as sad as that is, in the end I don’t think it ended in tragedy at all.
While she did get what she wanted through her reincarnation as Kagome- the tragedy here is the fact that she won't have any recollection as herself since Kagome is never gonna have the same personality and the memories from her. Ep 15 established this which makes it the more heartbreaking when Kikyo came back with the hatred part of her soul and she said to Inuyasha at that time that she didn't want to return back to Kagome as that would essentially mean the death of her. With ep 8 of the Final Act depicting the final moments of Kikyo & Inuyasha (knowing the truth of their tragedy) comes full circle as it marks their goodbyes to one another for good with actual closure this time. Then the remaining part of her soul is purified and lead into the afterlife by the soul collectors before that fragment of her soul gets sent into the future to join back with Kagome. Ending is bittersweet or can be seen as a tragedy.
i honestly used to hate kikyo but when i watched this ep for the 3rd time i litterally started crying and i realized that it was kagome being so inconsiderate to inuyasha and kikyo i mean used to be on kagome's side all the time but she makes it seem like she was the one hurt and makes everything about her when she litterally just turned up out of nowhere and basically took kikyo's boyfriend
Exactly. She was so insecure with her jealousy because she thought that inuyasha favored kikyo. Tbh, I have been questioning why kagome would keep saving her. On one hand, it seemed admirable that she would do it for inuyasha. But, I think that she wouldn’t feel comfortable letting kikyo die because she didn’t want to kill her out of jealousy. It’s why kikyo had her shikigami get kagome to save her. She knew that kagome was jealous, but she wanted to know if her jealousy would prevent her from saving her. It’s also why I think that kagome kinda regrets helping kikyo *after* inuyasha goes to save her. Inuyasha is literally kick the dog for kagome. Kagome can’t take her anger, insecurities etc out on kikyo because she can’t hurt kikyo, who is more powerful than she is. Plus, how would she explain to inuyasha and the group that she hurt kikyo out of jealousy? So, what does she do? She takes it out on inuyasha by abusing sit. She wants him to feel her pain because she was so insecure. She can’t tell kikyo to stay away from him, so she abuses sit to control inuyasha. She tries to make sure that he’ll be kept in check- it’s also why she would tell him some shit like “ I let you go after kikyo and you can’t tell me the truth?” When in reality, inuyasha didn’t need permission from her, but he kept telling her that nothing happened so she wouldn’t get angry at him and abuse the sit commands. Tbh, kagome and inuyasha have a toxic relationship when you get rid of their romance.
2:25 and on always gets me crying man😭. Although I know Kagomes her own person, she is still Kikyos reincarnation and I feel like she still got her wish to be with Inuyasha through a different way. In a way everything turned out for the best on all sides!
That's actually exactly it, she got her wish. She goes through Nirvana, gets a new life. Not only that, she gets her lover back too boot. Kagome was everything kikyo wanted so...kikyo won from the grave. Literally.
@@caleviwin Agreed, Kagome is everything Kikyo wished for, A ordinary girl/woman not tied to a big responsibility, and yo be united with the one she loves(inuyasha), and not to abandon her lil sister(kagomes case, lil bro)
Of course, I cried once again. I don’t want to keep watching this scene, but I always find myself searching it up for some reason. Guess it’s such a beautiful and emotion scene
I cried like a child when I watched this episode. Even knowing how much pain Inuyasha and Kikyo endured it just struck a chord with me that even after that short bit of hate Kikyo still loved Inuyasha, and even showed compassion to Kagome when she could do nothing to help her.
That moment right here is so meaningful because it was literally the start of the whole Inuyasha series. Both falling in love, Kikyo´s death and being reincarnated as Kagome in the "future" because her wish to be with Inuyasha was so strong. Its really love across time like being stated a lot in the anime/manga. When I was a child watching Inuyasha the first time I couldnt care less about the relations between the characters but now being an adult my heart bleeds rewatching this. I feel sorry for Lady Kikyo, not only because of her tragic story but also because I feel like she is a scapegoat that got "killed off" for the sake of the fans. So Inuyasha and Kagome´s relationship seems more romantic and powerful. She is dead and got nothing left while Kago on the other hand lives a happy life because fate wants her to and she was "born to be with Inuyasha". I wish the author would have given her a better ending...such as maybe..parallel universe were she can be with a diff. version of Inu...or I dont know...a life with friends and a loving family. And even after this Kikyo is able to find peace...damn.
Naraku was a villain with consequences. Consequences for himself and he hurt so many people. Usually the good guys are alright but Naraku made them all feel the pain. He was slippery and hard to get rid of. So much tragedy because a bad man couldnt let others live happy. Great story.
This scene will always break my heart, it is beautiful. Safe to say there is beauty in sorrow sometimes and this scene is a perfect example of that. I am not a fan of romance but Inuyasha is a beautiful story with many complex characters with a unique story of their own. Through Kagome Inuyasha has someone to cherish forever since she is a reincarnation of Kikyo. Always bittersweet to see the characters die, I wish this anime was still as popular as before. No one talks about Inuyasha anymore, the story is amazing and deserves more credit
Tariq Mansour I do too. For some reason, Kikyo is my favorite character from Inuyasha and will always be. Her backstory was also the saddest one of all
3:11 Kikyo dies again after Inuyasha failed to save her again before her Soul Collecters appears and takes Kikyo's soul at the starry night sky and at Heaven too for the first time.
Lady Kikyo and Inuyasha. Now that I have an ex girlfriend whom I was willing to sacrifice my happiness for I understand Inuyasha's feelings as if you could not protect the one you love, not being able to protect them and feeling as if you will fail to or have failed. Even when they say they are okay and forgive you, however you still cannot forgive yourself. Love triumphs over all. I learned from her that I must forgive myself and believe in myself. It's okay to miss her yet I have realized she showed me that the strength within me( not my intellect) was what attracted her to me. The will to never give up no matter how much people doubted me I keep going no matter how difficult life gets. She reawakened my will of fire. This is why I respect Lady Kikyo she and Inuyasha were tricked into hating each other by Naraku, Kikyo led by Naraku's lies tries to kill Inuyasha, Kikyo attempts to kill Naraku and is wounded and Inuyasha comes to rescue Kikyo realizing he may have failed to protect her again. What does Kikyo do? Forgive Inuyasha and they share a moment. My ex-girlfriend forgave me and let me know she was okay and as I rewatched this scene I could relate to it as an adult now.
I haven’t watched the full series fully yet- I kind of stopped when I was younger but I knew about his scene. When I was younger I absolutely hated Kikyo and was all about Kagome. As I got older I realized that kikyo was never a bad person she just had a really tragic life and this scene killed me. As I got older and went through some awful things I realized I became kikyo in a way but I wanted to be kagome and I still feel like that sometimes. Kikyo had a tragic life while kagome has a pretty great one. This scene is so sad and beautiful and you can tell kagome is sad to see Kikyo go and whether that be because she’s her reincarnation or not doesn’t matter
Man I hate this. I never did decide who I perfered for Inuyasha. I mean at the beginning I was all for Kagome and Kikyo was just an annoying third wheel but as the series progress and her hatred towards Inuyasha faded I started to warm up to her but still wished she just die and go back to Kagome. I hope for this so much until two major moments. When Naraku attacked her at Mt. Hakurei and during the flashback showing the full story of Kikyo and Inuyasha. Just seeing her wishing to have lived a normal life, envious of the other village girls really made my heart weep for her. Especially when Naraku cut her down. All those feelings of confusion and betrayal swirling inside her really cut deep after starting to see her as a woman. Again I never could decide who I liked more between Kagome and Kikyo afterwards. I find it extremely difficult to let go especially when it comes to first love. I hated when mine came to an end and some days it still hurts immensely. I can't even begin to imagine what'd it be like to lose someone through death like that which only fuels my tears watching Kikyo die. I hate seeing her smile just before she shares her last seconds in Inuyasha's arms as she begins to slowly cry. All the time they could've and should've spent together hits really hard at this one moment. As such it left me with a lot of mixed feelings about In Inuyasha and Kagome ending up together at the end. I just couldn't stop thinking about how that should've been Kikyo's life walking side by side with Inuyasha and it's the only selfish wish she ever truly wanted and I just hate tragedies. They are by very nature meant to be sad but I'm always in a depressing mood for the next week or two and I hate I'm this sensitive.
I just re-read the manga because of the new sequel thats coming out on October 3rd and quiet frankly it made feel so sad for kikyo and dislike Inuyasha a bit aswell. Kikyo loved him so much that she was willing to give up everything to be with him and only had space in her heart for him alone. She is brought back only to witness him fall in love with another woman who just happens to be your reincarnation who has everything you ever wanted. Meanwhile while you and him realized you were both tricked and he promise to protect you and that his life is yours, you witness him choosing that other girl over you. A 15 year old kid... I mean just look at chaper 120, he did it right infront of her, God her poor soul. He could of grabbed both and knows it but hus first instinct was Kagome. He grabbed Kagome, asked her if shes okay and then he realized Kikyo was also there 🤦♀️This was Inuyasha's problem, he would say/promise something but his actions always proved him wrong. 🙄 Everytime she got hurt or died was because he choosed Kagome over her. The guy was worried about not wanting to "breakup" with Kagome when he's not even supposed to be in a relationship with her in the first place. Him thinking to himself that " i would avenge you but that's all I could do for you". Even her dying here for the last time was his fault. He KNEW Kagome had people that would risk their lives to save her, Koga could of gotten Kagome or he could of taken Kikyo with him but no he had to get her himself. I think him realizing this here added more salt to this mess. Just take a moment and think if she was brought back alive to be with Inuyasha just to find him mopping around the well all the time or even worst. If the well never stopped working.
Tragic Love Song of Destiny always stood out to me - it changed my perspective of Kikyo as a bitter villainess
Rather she became as the title says - tragic
Everything in her life was outside her control and the only time she chose to do something of her own choosing, to love, she was struck where it hurt - seemingly by the man she came to love…and in the same day dying with that anger and bitterness the last thing of her mortal life.
Then she was brought back with those feeling as fresh as the last day of her life; to learn the truth, her mercy and pity for a unknown bandit would start the series of events that not only led to her death but the curse and deaths of countless people
Imagine what was going through her mind when she realized it…her mercy, her pity, and her love - the only times she chose to act on her own accord resulted with the calamity that is Naraku.
How can you not sympathize?
It naraku who made her like that not inuyasha and she is not villainess. Kikyo is reborn as kagome.
I’d like this but Kikyo was not a villainess.
@@crystalmonroy9111 I know. Growing up changed my perspective
bro she literally found a half dead rapist and thought "durr lets bring him to my village": the bitch was retarded
@@AdeptKing But he has Kagome, Miroku, Sango, and Shippo.
I never meant to leave kaede like that
She was a scorned lady
Kikyo may have died in this series but inuyasha and kikyo's love will always be remembered and honoured forever.
@@narendaranbommannan2436 I envy that. I’m glad he has Kagome too. Just sucks him and Kikiyo got robbed. They were a good match.
@@BigRenzEnt Thank you
It's just sad how their love back when she was still alive was so fragile for somebody like Naraku to easily tore them apart.
I ship inuyasha x kikio... She was best for Inuyasha
I'm guessing you support Kagome and InuYasha? lol :P
Bob S. Tordoc Zhou I do but I respect Kikyo and Inuyasha’s history as well. I’m sure Kagome did too :)

1st Life: Midoriko, Ancient Priestess/Miko, Heian Period of Japan, Ancient/Prehistoric Era, 1000 yrs ago
2nd Life: Kikyo, Medieval Priestess/Miko, Sengoku Period of Japan, Feudal Era, 500 yrs ago
3rd Life: Kagome, Modern Priestess/Miko, present day Tokyo, Japan, Modern Era
No Name yeah I agree with you. He completely forgotten about Kikyo when he married Kagome
No Name so another disappointing ending and I never realized it now now 🤦♀️
Kikyo I am very sorry for what naraku did to you , I promise you this that you will be with inuyasha on another life I mean on other series.
Narendaran Bommannan exactly. The writers did Kikyo dirty by killin her not once, not twice, but 3 times
I think their relationship was pretty well developed
@Jessica Adams look she saved kohaku's life even kagome can't do that , this proves that she is the best heroine to inuyasha not kagome.
@Jessica Adams one of my relative is died because of Corona virus at yesterday night.
It's weird how my appreciation and understanding of Kikyou grew as I grew older and went through relationships as well. Kagome, Kikyou and Inuyasha's relationship and how each handled is a lot easier to understand now vs when I was a little kid just rooting for the first main pairing I saw. Feel sad that their suffering had to drag out so long but it's also nice to see them reconcile their misunderstandings and anger. ; - ;
Wow
I just finished watching this episode and I’m still crying. This scene hit me harder than a wall 😢
Wut?
Kikyo will always be my favorite character from inuyasha. Her story is simply tragic yet really beautiful.
I want inuyasha to become human and kikyo will be normal woman so they could get married and live a happy life and bear children that's all I wanted.
Narendaran Bommannan but nope. The writers had to nerf Kikyo by killing her not once, not twice, but 3 fuckin times. She will always be my favorite character from Inuyasha. Thank you
True
Technically Kikyo’s wish was granted, she was reincarnated in the modern world & lived as a normal girl until she came back to to past to finish her task & to be with Inuyasha as Kagome. But I’m glad that part of her soul found peace
The voice acting is superb
ikr, like that "sore de ii" kikyo said, and her voice was like breaking, thus my heart was torn over
@@triciaofelia1167 you should listening in the latino audio...it's so good too
Kappei Yamaguchi (Inuyasha) also voices Ranma Saotome (male) which Ranma 1/2 is also a Rumiko work.
When he says "i couldnt save you" that shit was powerful lol
On God
Kaede and Kikyos relationship so sad she wanted to make her sister so proud and loved her and Kaede wanted her sister to know how much she loves her and kikyo can never forgive herself for the pain she caused her & this is the second time she mourned her sisters death
This is show is really sad
It was naraku who spoiled her like that and made kikyo mad not inuyasha.
RIP Kiyko, you're finally and ordinary woman...😢😢😭😭
monica andrade
Yeah.. she deserved to have peace.
@@enzomartinez8083 yes I finally got my wish
@@Nite-Rise I was finally at peace
This broke me down in tears.. May you ever rest in peace Kikyo.. You will no longer suffer as long as you live.
PiaPatagピアパタが she still love thru kagome
// Blue // yeah. Because Kagome is Kikyo’s reincarnation
PiaPatagピアパタが same. I just finished watching this episode and I’m still crying right now. This scene broke me into pieces 😢
“You came for me, that’s enough “ -Kikyo
These words broke me 💔😭 even though I didn’t ship Inuyasha and Kikyo, I’d still felt and understood their pain and struggles in trying to be together.
They are indeed the same
Reminds me of Cloud and Aerith when it comes to that line
I really wanted her to be the one to kill Naraku :(
It wasn't kagomes soul
That soul belongs to that priestess n that cave
Wait the priest who was called the strongest to ever live?
And some fking idiot ships Naraku x Kikyo whoever did that should die... i mean the best ship is one and only Inuyasha x Kikyo (Kagome)
The old witch that resurrected Kikyō she said that some of her sold returned to the girl from where it came because when she found out that Kikyō was already reCarnation thru kagome
Kikyō didn’t find out that Naraku was one who killed her later on which inuyasha already found out earlier During the season first
Kikyo has always been my favorite female character in the show even back when I first started watching it in middle school.
The fact that some people think Kagome is suffering the most in this scene because of the kiss WHILE KIKYO IS LITERALLY DYING and Inuyasha is saying goodbye to his first (true imo) love is ridiculous to me I--
Just what I was thinking, what's wrong with those people..😒😭😭
I thought kagome was crying because she felt that she couldnt save kikyo...
@@fshonuff same. When I watched as a kid I didn't like kikyo but after growing up she's like my favorite character (with Sesshoumaru).
So he never got over her? To me it doesnt look like he moved on. Or did he kiss her so she can move on when he already did.
I hope so, because it would be pretty messed up if she flat out deleted hundreds of innocent souls.
@@Zarastro54 Thats pretty much what she did, not to mention the monk she killed.
You do have a point there.
Other piece goes back to Kogome.
Other Souls are from Women she stole souls from..
kikyo is one of the best female anime characters i have ever seen. and the most tragic one. she was truly beauteous, dignified, pure, and gentle, yet she led such a tragic life. she was entrusted with a duty that no one else but her could do, thus she was not able to live as an ordinary woman, find an ordinary love, and become happy. it irritates me how, most people in the comments, are blaming her for everything - though, truth be said, i understand where you are coming from. back when i was a kid, without knowing anything, i hated kikyo for no logic reason, thinking she was just a disturbance who separated inuyasha from kagome. now that i am 16 years old and re-watched it from the very beginning, i understood everything. kikyo was not one to blame. she trusted inuyasha so much, she did not even give the beads she already prepared for inuyasha (episode 147-148) because she believed, with all her heart, that inuyasha would not do any more bad deeds. however, it was as natural as breathing when she thought inuyasha betrayed her. she was born with a spiritual power, known as the great priestess. once she let her guard down, demon would take advantage on her. thus she grew up trusting no one, dealing with demons who came after the sacred jewel all the time, until she met inuyasha. when naraku manipulated both of them, it was natural for her to feel betrayed by her first love. yet, even though she cursed inuyasha, even though she was angered and died in despise and hatred towards inuyasha, deep inside her heart, she still loved inuyasha. that love was eternal, a love remaining through two lifetimes and even after her death. also, please do remember that she could have just killed inuyasha with the sacred arrow, yet she did not do it. she shoot the arrows of sealing, in the brink of her death (if you watch a certain episode which kagome saw an illusion of that fateful day, we could know that it was just a scene of sadness, no hatred at all, just a pure sadness, and kikyo was crying and hugging inuyasha - it felt like she was sunk deeply in her feelings of love and uncertain, and that was truly painful.) all she had ever wanted was just to become an ordinary woman and live happily with those whom she held so dear, yet everyone trampled on her life - cursed her to have a tragic death if she ever falls in love, manipulated her, and brought her back to life with a body that was no longer human.
some people said that she should just drop dead since she was already dead - actually, she would, if it were not for her duty. she knew she was a living corpse, but she could not die just yet. she still had something she should do in that world. she accomplished her duty to protect the sacred jewel and help people along her way even though she was already dead. she was not brought back to life by her own will, so it was not her fault. when she told kagome that she should just go back to her era, it was not out of anything bad. for people who thought she was a bad character in her first appearance, that was only because she was revived as an evil spirit. that urasue revived her angered soul, filled with hatred towards inuyasha. but, as times went on, she became more and more like her past self, and she forgave. not just that, she should have been the one who was hurt the most, yet she never hated kagome for taking everything from her. she never blamed kagome for what happened, instead, kagome kept continuously spreading her jealousy, always looked at inuyasha and kikyo being together with an expression of annoyance. kikyo was never like that. she let inuyasha be with kagome, because she definitely knew her place. she did not give in to her selfishness. and the beads in which she should have given it to inuyasha, was finally used by kagome. despite everything, she trusted kagome to the very end. that is why i truly cannot understand why all of you people kept talking bad about kikyo - it almost felt like you are even worse than onigumo or naraku. also, do not forget the fact that kikyo had saved many people's lives, as well as kohaku's. the kindness inside her was infinite. i am not hoping for you to love kikyo, but stop badmouthing her. do not be unreasonable and childish. i wanted to say something more, but i think i should just stop. anywise, please excuse my rudeness.
I read every word and I agree
Unfortunately I used to be in that boat BUT that was before I had relationships, healed some and burned some, I have scars and have left them.
I bet anyone else that used to hate kikyo as a child will have a different opinion sinxe were all adults now
Thank you very much for this
You werent being rude you were being correct and I couldn't have said it any better myself thank you for this 😊 (even though when I first saw inuyasha I automatically loved kikyo and inuyasha and disliked kagome but I also wish that inukik and kogakag(only time I liked her) had happened.
Jessica Adams i’m literally loving everything ur saying!!!
It's been years and I still keep on coming back here.
I'm glad they played ending 3 dearest during this scene cause it fit so well and I will never forget this series
omg when she apologized to her sister i teared up instantly. I'm glad kikyo finally acknowledged that she had faults as a sister.
I dont think I've ever cried harder at a scene than Kikiyos death. She was such a tragic character and I dont think I fully liked her at the start. But the way her story went and she was fleshed out over the course of the show was just done brilliantly imo.
No matter how much time passes, I still cry like a baby when I see this scene.
God, the music and the atmosphere of this anime has always been 10/10.
Yashahime brought me back to old memories, can't stop dropping down my tear every time I watch this...
1st Life: Midoriko, Ancient Priestess/Miko, Heian Period of Japan, Ancient/Prehistoric Era, 1000 yrs ago
2nd Life: Kikyo, Medieval Priestess/Miko, Sengoku Period of Japan, Feudal Era, 500 yrs ago
3rd Life: Kagome, Modern Priestess/Miko, present day Tokyo, Japan, Modern Era
Midoriko never became Kikyo. Midoriko’s soul was literally still trapped in the jewel until Kagome purified it.
Poor Kikiyo. She was so misunderstood.
To those who understand the language know he said "she would protect us forever".
F you you did not put ENGLISH
There’s plenty - I’m thai not japanese but I know a few literal translations of Japanese to know sub and dubbed don’t always translate
XD XD XD
Either way it's both beautiful. Protecting each other. Sounds good too 😁
That ruined it but it makes sense because how can he protect her if she already died? But at the same time if he said he wanted to protect her forever that sounds way more sweet
i see thats why I got curious when I read the sub, like how will u protect her she’s already gone
but anyway sounds sweet
Aside from Kagura's death, seeing Kikyo's death in the Final Arc opened up a whole can of tears as we see her demise again and this time it stuck. At lease we finally see Kikyo and Inuyasha have a sense of closure that was robbed of them back 50 years ago in their timeline. A sad episode and the music used in her scene emphasized it that much more.
Even at the age of 32, this gives me watery eyes
Same....😭😭😭
I just got back to watching it since I couldn’t find anywhere else to watch the remaining seasons, and now I’m finally on The Final Act and just finished watching this episode and now I’m still crying cuz this scene crushed me to pieces.
Fitness_ Rebels well, we have Naruto which is also so emotional and beautiful
@@narutoninjagoandtheflashar4256 yes yes, I agree totally. How could I forget?!
At least, her and Inuyasha got the closure they needed this time. It’s so heart wrenching though. Naraku really ruined what they had. 😢
Oooo the bitterness of it....😭
Wtf am I watching this scene when I just finished the episode and still crying right now
Same just now
Fabiola Cocchiararo you just finished the episode too
I remember watching Inuyasha when I was like 13. Maybe even younger. I'm 27 now. This series is, by far, one of the most tragic in anime...
Edit: especially with Dearest, one of the original songs, playing in the background. OMG.
Christian Garo THE SONG CHOICE REALLY WAS PERFECT. IT CHANGED EVERYTHING
This scene hit so hard. I still tear up seeing it now.
I wish the ending would have been Kikyou finally getting rid of Naraku instead of having kagome do it. Then she should have passed
桔梗「やっと…ただの女になれた…」「それでいい…」最後の笑顔、最後の愛を見せる桔梗。最後のキスをして光となって消滅した桔梗。暖かい優しい桔梗の魂。桔梗の愛…
Every single time i watch this moment, ill cry
Ainz same. I just finished watching this episode and now I’m still crying. This scene broke me into pieces 😢
One of my favorite moments from InuYasha. Kikyo was easily my fav character behind Sesshomaru.
Cloud and Aerith have the same post mortem 'You came for me. That's enough.' (Advent Children) FF7 has some serious parallels with Inuyasha.
I always loved Kikyou. Such a wonderfully complex character!
And this scene makes me cry every single damn time I watch it.
1:26
Even if Kikyo was bones and graveside soil made flesh in her second life, Kaede may have still wanted a hug from her big sister one last time.
No matter how many times I read/saw this scene, tears always gets me. Kikyou, true to her name, loved Inuyasha even through three deaths. That is poignantly beautiful and tragic simultaenously.
This scene really hit the feels despite how you felt about kikyo. The music makes it even more sad.
I saw this scene as more bittersweet, she was destined to die and move on because Kagome exists! So without her death Kagome simply wouldn't be there.
I saw it as her soul moving onto wherever it goes before being reborn, so someday the Kikyo we saw there will be reborn as Kagome as she will get to go on all those adventures and finally have her man :>
It's still sad but her story isn't over, she will finally get to live as an ordinary girl and be with the man she loves. She's got a bright future ahead of her filled with happiness!
This is the anime that is difficult for me to watch again because I strongly felt it ended in a tragedy. I just can't get over the fact that Kikyo and Inuyasha did not end up together. They were soulmates and they perfectly fit each other.
Right?? I literally find it really hard to ever watch again bc kikyo was the best for him and seeing kagome everytime makes me wanna🤢🤜
Makes me cry everytime. Hands down outstanding voice acting and music.
It's unfair that Kaede wasn't there!!!!
Why writers?!?!?! Why writers!!!!!! She should have been there to tell her at least I love you!!!!!
Beautiful scene. Finally Imuyasha and Kikyou get the closure they needed. I cry
i honestly used to hate kikyo but when i watched this ep for the 3rd time i litterally started crying and i realized that it was kagome being so inconsiderate to inuyasha and kikyo i mean used to be on kagome's side all the time but she makes it seem like she was the one hurt and makes everything about her when she litterally just turned up out of nowhere and basically took kikyo's
boyfriend
When the instrumental to Dearest came on... I bawled. I can't ever hear the song again without my eyes tearing up 😢 This scene was so beautiful
I really Like kikyo IM crying because inuyasha Always late to save her shes kind hearted powerful
I cried like a child when I watched this episode. Even knowing how much pain Inuyasha and Kikyo endured it just struck a chord with me that even after that short bit of hate Kikyo still loved Inuyasha, and even showed compassion to Kagome when she could do nothing to help her.
I'm blinded by tears. My heart is torn. I can't.
I watched the episode last night, that f'ed me up, poor Kikyo 😢😢😢😢😢😢
In this scene I cry so hard,
it was the first and last love.
This is so sad for Inuyasha he wanted to protect Kikio. 😭😭
That moment right here is so meaningful because it was literally the start of the whole Inuyasha series. Both falling in love, Kikyo´s death and being reincarnated as Kagome in the "future"
because her wish to be with Inuyasha was so strong. Its really love across time like being stated a lot in the anime/manga. When I was a child watching Inuyasha the first time I couldnt
care less about the relations between the characters but now being an adult my heart bleeds rewatching this.
I feel sorry for Lady Kikyo, not only because of her tragic story but also because I feel like she is a scapegoat that got "killed off" for the sake of the fans. So Inuyasha and Kagome´s
relationship seems more romantic and powerful. She is dead and got nothing left while Kago on the other hand lives a happy life because fate wants her to and she was "born to be
with Inuyasha". I wish the author would have given her a better ending...such as maybe..parallel universe were she can be with a diff. version of Inu...or I dont know...a life with friends and a loving family. And even after this Kikyo is able to find peace...damn.

Kikyo's Soul Collecters takes her soul to a starry night sky and head straight to Heaven.
Naraku was a villain with consequences. Consequences for himself and he hurt so many people. Usually the good guys are alright but Naraku made them all feel the pain. He was slippery and hard to get rid of. So much tragedy because a bad man couldnt let others live happy. Great story.
When Kikyo says her final goodbye to Kaede it breaks my heart every time. Even after all those years, she loved her sister so deeply.
One of my all time favourite characters ever kiky❤
Tariq Mansour I do too. For some reason, Kikyo is my favorite character from Inuyasha and will always be. Her backstory was also the saddest one of all
Inuyasha and Kikyo are star-crossed lovers, I always loved their story. Kikyo is a tragic character 💔 her final death makes me cry every time
Why did the "soul" of Kikyo fly off when it should have went into Kagome's body?
Because that was the small piece of her soul that was filled with nothing but anger and hate while the rest of her soul was inside of Kagome.
Because that soul did not belong to Kikyo
Cuz she don't want to fight anymore
That wasn't kikyo soul
Sweet heart you better shut that little mouth of yours💢🤜
20 year old man, barely started watching the final act on Hulu… I wept... I cried so hard… I couldn’t stop

Kikyo dies again after Inuyasha failed to save her again before her Soul Collecters appears and takes Kikyo's soul at the starry night sky and at Heaven too for the first time.
It does hurts when someone pass away
I can’t stop myself from watching this, it’s so sad
All the shows that I watch over yrs somehow somewhere I understand them both
I haven’t watched the full series fully yet- I kind of stopped when I was younger but I knew about his scene.
Rewatching the series as an adult and this episode was just on and I balled my freaking eyes out.
The serious emphasizes on the idea of being able to move on from your past.
The background music their playing is the inuyasha ending “my dearest”😭😭 such an emotional scene and song.
Yes my soul was saved and I was able to heal and achieved my biggest wish ever
Yes xd
