Kikyo is an incredible tragic character who transcended her Shounen medium. Disastrously underappreciated due to a bunch of superficial idiots who liked the series for the wrong reasons and had a messed up sense of morality. This will haunt me forever. She was so kind and compassionate. Yet it was her very kindness and compassion that made her suffer throughout the series before and after her death. I cant contain this much sadness..

Kikyo is probably one of the most unfortunate characters ever. She was raised to be a pure miko to protect the shikonotama, however she fell in love with Inuyasha, a half demon who wasn't accepted by both human and demon. She wanted to turn Inuyasha into a human by using the shikonotama, but she was killed by Onigumo, someone she had saved. She also believed that Inuyasha was the one who killed her. Even after her death her only wish to the shikonotama was to stay with Inuyasha. Years later she was resurrected as an impure being, still believing that Inuyasha was the one who killed her. Later on she found out that the one who killed her wasn't Inuyasha, but Onigumo. Not only that, her love rival was Kagome, her own reincarnation. She died while trying to protect the shikonotama. Thinking back she was never truly happy. Kikyo's wish to the shikonotama was never granted. She didn't end up with Inuyasha.

+RevelxOncexSone Girlx maybe it's because I've watched Inuyasha since I was 6. I grew up watching this series so sometimes I could sympathize and empathize with the characters. Kikyo in particular is a well-made character. Many people hate her, but they don't realize that Kikyo was a teenage girl who gave up the privilege to live a normal life to be a sacred priestess whose priority was to protect the jewel, even though it wouldn't benefit her. She fell in love with a hanyo even though it was looked down upon. She later on died on the hands of the sinner whom she saved and believed that her lover was the one who did it. Many years later she was forcefully resurrected. She, who gave up the privilege to live a normal life to be a pure priestess, was forcefully resurrected as a vengeful impure being. Kikyo then found out that Inuyasha wasn't her murderer after all and her love rival is her own reincarnation. Even with all those sh*t, Kikyo's wish to the jewel was never granted.

But they were the only ones they could talk to. Kikyo had to remain "perfect" as a priestess, that meant no commitment to love. Her life and love was taken from her by Narakus schemes. And in her dying moment, she got weak and had one last wish to the jewel. Kikyo deserved a better life. Kagome is just a brat.

In the episodes after her death when Inuyasha is trapped by that Flower Prince or whatever he says he can feel the sorrow in Inuyasha a soul to have lost the woman he loved most in this world. And in the beginning of the series he chose Kikyo even if it meant following her in death. Kikyo had another path though and sacrificed her...life for the cause.
Sofii That’s the whole point, she WAS selfish. What do you mean she didn’t get rid of the jewel? When? She was burried with it! She wouldn’t have known that didn’t destroy it and she wanted to destroy the jewel at the end together with Naraku, did you even watch? She sacrificed her life for the purpose of protecting the jewel and gave up on Inuyasha even though she still loved him. Don’t forget that the Kikyo in the beginning, the one who had just been resurrected, was NOT the real Kikyo. As she collected more souls from shindamachi, she became more human and returned to her own self. Inuyasha realised that too, Kagome knew that too...she’s really a complex and exquisite character. Kagome isn’t all milk and sugar either, she’s also had some terrible fits and a nastier part of her character. And let’s not forget Kagome never went through what Kikyo had.
This anime/manga is the reason why I don't like reincarnated characters because this anime/manga traumatized me. 😭 It hurts to everyone involved. I always felt like Kikyo deserves more than what happened to her. What happened to her was injustice. She and Inu Yasha's (I didn't like him TBH, so wishy-washy. I love Sesshomaru 😂) love story was more deep and heartfelt.
It's been years and i still cannot stop the tears everytime watching this heartbreaking scene :(( Her life is just too tragic, I mean why must being so good? She literally sacrificed everything she had for the sake of others and then what she got in return? No one understood (except for Naraku, I guess) or stayed by her side, no one was there for her throughout the line, even Inuyasha, the love of her life... :( In the end, Kikyou's existence was no doubt the highlight of this anime, which makes it a fantastic masterpiece and worth to watch. Without her, "Inuyasha" wouldn't have hold much emotion. Kikyou is forever the best character in this anime, even the best in all anime i've watched :((

I'll never forgive Kagome's attitude towards Kikyo throughout. She couldn't be considerate enough to Kikyo or Inuyasha. She couldn't tolerate the mere mention of Kikyo's name which caused the fanbase to hate Kikyo for reasons they should've lover her for if they removed their fanboy/girl goggles. Kikyo on the other hand: "You came for me. This is good enough" Kikyo kept being tormented, she tried to hide her feelings and decided to leave Inuyasha all to Kagome. She's damn near-perfect!! It's obvious that Kikyo was the polar opposite to Naraku. Where Naraku was depicted all-evil and demonic, Kikyo was all pure, all-good. But nevertheless with a vulnerable heart that needed tender care, because more than a priestess, she happened to be human.

I was so annoyed about how the viewers were absurdly manipulated to hate on Kikyo through Kagome and her friends who always complained when Inuyasha takes about her or went to search for her. For example when she supposedly died at Hakureizan, they were annoyed with Inuyasha for going to look for her damn body! How can anyone be so inconsiderate?! Inuyasha never ceased to care for Kikyo, I think that says something. A bunch of immature brats who didn’t get the compelxity of this character and this love story beyond death, that’s all I can say!
Both of them were "true love" Kikyo was his past, and Kagome his future. It's really that simple. His connection to Kikyo was a lot deeper but he'll spend much longer time with Kagome because the random fate has so decided. This is how life goes, some things wont go as you'd expect them to, but you will learn from your mistakes as yo go along. If Kikyo was truly alive and well, Inuyasha wouldn't have gone with Kagome. What separated Inuyasha from Kikyo was the sad reality, not the emotional connection. Kikyo's distancing herself symbolized the tragic and cruel truth, Inuyasha's obsession symbolized his love, affection and guilt. He was blessed with a second chance living, Kikyo wasn't.

It's pretty complex but their personalities and consciousnesses were entirely different. That's more than enough reason to separate the two, especially considering how the series kept emphasizing on that. Kikyo's soul didn't merge into Kagome's at the end which makes me wonder if her soul evolved and became independent. I think the idea of Kagome being Kikyo's reincarnation symbolized the journey of a lover's fight to move forward. It was also an indirect way to allow Kikyo and Inuyasha to correct their past mistakes. Kagome is literally Inuyasha's new "Kikyo" but Kikyo here probably meant "love" and not the actual Kikyo. It's a bit confusing and is intentionally written in a way that doesn't make perfect sense. But there is some magic to that.
Man. I liked Kagome and disliked Kikyou at the beginning (because of how manipulative she was) but later on, how can you not grow to love her? And I hate to admit this but, Inuyasha's love for Kikyou seems so much stronger than his love for Kagome... He cried so much more painfully than when I thought Kagome died. He's always thinking of her, looking for her, even after her death. And they've kissed so many times, if he had to choose he would still choose Kikyou, I think. It's only because she was evil at the time (even so, he still wanted her) and technically dead that Kagome and Inuyasha eventually ended up together. I still love Kagome a lot, I think she tries really hard and I love her character development, but the strong bond between Kikyou and Inuyashsha I am unable to ignore.

Aliyah Higurashi the only way Inuyasha would end up with Kagome was if Kikyo died. Inuyasha also loved kagome but his love for Kikyo was stronger, If they had defeated Naraku and used the jewel for Kikyo's life, Inuyasha would have ended up with her and they would have lived happily the way they had originally planned. kagome would have gone back to her time, to live a normal life. I wish that was what had happened.
I still hate her but I respect her and when I saw her death (this scene) I cried and I was like a lake or a shower with tears JUST dripping like crazy and the music DOES NOT make it any better I just kept crying even though I hated her and wanted her dead (again) but when this scene came I just- cried really bad
I loved Kikyou's character from the very first time I watched InuYasha (I still love her). Something about her character captivated me, she was beautiful, strong, and determined and what she loved most was unfairly taken from her. I find her to be one of the most misunderstood characters in this anime because her intentions in the beginning were uncertain. People calling her a bitch and whatnot is childish and clearly don't empathize with her enough: she died believing the love of her life (a first love) had betrayed her and used her and was resurrected harboring those feelings. Her actions may have appeared as cruel or mean but her intentions were usually good. Her life was unjustly robbed from her, a life that would've involved InuYasha. This death scene always gets to me and makes me an emotional wreck when I watch it. I think InuYasha's love for Kikyou is much stronger than that of Kagome's. I'm not trying to bash on Kagome, I admit I really disliked her when I first watched the series (I was in middle school), but she has redeeming qualities from her and I have a much better opinion about her than before. Had Kikyou not passed, I think InuYasha would've stayed with her over Kagome, maybe even wish her back to life with the jewel. Their bond can never be broken, I just wished two people that deeply loved each other could've been together.

She suffered so much and not once really got what she wanted. BUT, I have to disagree on Kagome. It is not like she is my favorite heroine, but I do quite like her character, because she is different from other anime leads. I feel like what Inuyasha in the end felt was not really love as one may think. He does not cry about his love dying, he cries about the first woman he ever cared about dying. I feel like even if she survived, he would have chosen Kagome. I may be one single person thinking that, but up to that point, Inuyasha's feelings for Kagome were deeper than the lingering feelings he had for Kikyo. He cried for his first love, for the woman he wanted to protect but died nonetheles deaths anyway and why? Bascially because of him. He feels guilty and one last time kisses Kikyo because he wanted to let go the woman whose heart he gave for the first time in his life. Up to that point, he already loved Kagome more than Kikyo, but the feeling of letting go, really letting go his first love forever is a painful thing to do. I feel for him. It is nothing one ever wants to do. And I feel for Kikyo, I loved her character and I feel for her so much, that it makes me cry everytime when I see this scene.

And i always hate kikyo back before. i thinks she likes a villain.. But after like 10 years. i rewatch inuyasha. and get a different perspective. After become matured person. Kagome is the reincarnation and reborn form of Kagome. Kikyo wished to the Shikon Jewel to become an ordinary woman and be with Inuyasha. That's why Kagome was born.
I think that Inuyasha series are true cure for the heart. Without being too graphical. It touches the painful issues between humans and implores compassion, ability to forgive and care for another. It's a fairy tale, but beautiful one and like any fairy tale, there is a lot to learn and ponder from it...
That's what you choose to take from it. I see it from different perspective. DESPITE having her love and life stolen from her. Kikyou still has strength to forgive and let go. (that's not what happens in real life I know but that's why I say it's a fairy tail). Besides, the true villain of the story is Naraku who in his hatred and jealousy tore Inuyasha and Kikyou apart. Besides, what do you mean, right? Kykiou was dead, and was brought back to life as vengeful ghost. She WAS a monster. And even than Inuyasha kept running to her every time, torn between his new feelings for Kagome and his old forcibly revived feeling for Kikyou. How is that fair to any of them? Yet, they still have strength to put and dumper on their own feelings and concentrate on defeating Naraku. So, yeah. Beautiful, sad, and well written and well ended story?

For a true inuyasha fan, it's just impossible not to be sad in front of this scene, without necessarily crying, just being sad. For me, not loving Kikyo is either not liking the anime / manga Inuyasha or not understanding the story.
Inuyasha and kikyo are the best lovers in this story because she's beautiful and respectful person but kagome always kiddish, no matter the story ends the woman he truly loves is kikyo.

Yes that is true! It is the same soul but I don’t think we should forget that Kikyo and Kagome are two different people and it is obviously because Kagome grew up in a modern era and Kikyo was raised in an older time. It is great that Inuyasha ended up with the same soul, but if I was Kikyo I would be upset if I saw the love of my life love another versions of me, because even if we have the same soul, I am still me, right?
@@Anakin737 The point was, there was no way the same soul can live in the same time, it was Kikyo's relentlessness that she committed the crime of stealing other soul so she could live on that dirt clay body. At that point when Kikyo died by Naraku's hands, she was already gone. This Kikyo was essentially just a shell, and Kikyo was in Kagome already. Unlike what most people think, Kikyo didn't stay for InuYasha, for revenge or otherwise. It's because she needed to defeat Naraku, which she couldn't trust to her ownself(Kagome) and proceeded to put it in her lifeless hands. In the end, she got defeated and accepted the fact that she will live on, through Kagome and their love with Inuyasha.
All this happened just becuz of her kindness . Tho she saved the villain but it wasn’t her fault, she didn’t know. She was just an strong woman with kindness :’(
IDK why, but as a writer I've always wanted Inuyasha and Kikyo to be the endgame ship. Kagome is great and all, but she is a moderner, and a child, and this was the perfect opportunity for her to have a Paper Town kind of revelation. She loved and endured a lot as a result, of course, but it would be so cool if the treasure waiting for her at the end of the line was maturity and competence instead of a happily ever after ride into the sunset. She could have returned to her old life at home with the wisdom of an adult and went far in life, and that to me sounds like a much more profound message for a show to send. I guess my saltiness is also because I'm just tired of seeing young love like this ALWAYS work out in fiction when in reality they're about as lasting as cottage cheese.
I Need You Oh pleaseee write a version like this! It’s perfect! I’ve ALWAYS thought that way. It would have been absolutely perfect, I just feel it would have. Kikyou really deserved a happy ending after all the pain and tragedy, Inuyasha loved her too and shouldn’t have suffered so much. I’m sure Kagome would’ve gotten over it, she seemed to have respect for their love story even though she was jealous. The writers kept dropping hints throughout the series that Kikyo was a Inuyasha’s first choice: he initially started to care for Ksgome because she supposedly looked like her, he chose her over Kagome and swore to protect Kikyo all his life, Kagomr herself said she would always be second fiddle to Kikyo, that Flowr Prince in the Final Act said Inuyasha lost the woman he loved the most in the world...This ending would have been much better for a change, a breath of fresh air from this childish love stories. A stronger and more tragic love story deserved the foreground, not the background.
BlueSwampyCraft I would consider this Kikyo’s happy ending. No matter what, she’ll still be dead and using souls to sustain herself just a little longer. The way her story ended, she got closure and got to die being held in her lovers arms. Her soul is no longer burdened and she can pass into the afterlife in peace. I agree it’s a shame that she never got to be with Inuyasha herself, but it’s still beautiful that her soul literally transcended time to be with the man she loved again. That’s why I wouldn’t consider him being with Kagome as anything negative, it’s the same soul just raised in completely different circumstances. Kagome is what Kikyo should’ve been had she grown up being what she wanted, an ordinary woman.
She suffered so much that even her second life is much more horrible that I think I can't endure if I were in her shoes...I would rather just find a reason to escape from danger yet,she faced death with acceptance.

How young are all of you that keep making the Kikyo vs Kagome discussion? Stop fighting over who is better. When I was younger, I really hated Kikyo. She had died; her time in the living world was over, just like if I died I wouldn't want my loved one to mourn me forever. Inuyasha had moved, but then I realize that Kikyo and Kagome are technically the same, if Kikyo hadn't died there would be no Kagome. They do have different personalities and different ways of reacting to love and loss, but that's because Kagome didn't remember anything from her past life. It's like people who wake up from a coma without any memories, they develop different traits biased on their surroundings. That's what reincarnation means! SHE IS KIKYO, KIKYO IS KAGOME; just without her memories and miko lifestyle. Inuyasha loves THEM. There is no love triangle, it's just one begin in different stages of their soul's life. I think that's why they stopped being jealous over one another, perhaps they realized how silly it is to be jealous over yourself.
You're completely right, Kikyo and Kagome are indeed the same person. However, when a person wakes up from a coma, and loses all her memories, the other people(her friends, families) made those memories with her, even if she doesn't remember it. I Inuyasha made those memories with Kikyo, and not Kagome. They may share the same soul, but their personality is completely different, and the way they both love Inuyasha is different, and so technically, the love he shares with Kikyo is completely different from the one he shares with Kagome. And there is technically a love triangle in this story as he had to choose. There was a point of time where Inuyasha had to choose between Kagome and Kikyo. The soul isn't what makes a person, their heart, their thought and their personality does.

Idk why I'm watching Inuyasha in 2020 but one thing I'm sure of is... Inuyasha will never forget Kikyo no matter what... because she's his greatest love. But I also think that Inuyasha will always choose Kagome no matter what. Inuyasha loved Kikyo, but Inuyasha loves Kagome. It's been hard for him because when she died and learned the truth about Naraku, he slowly accepts her death and then uses it as his drive to avenge her life... but then she came to life and all his feelings overflowed again, remembering all the times they used to have and this time he wanted to make it right. But it's different now because he also has Kagome. It'll always be hard on Inuyasha if she keeps resurfacing death after death, and this time it hurts because she died in his arms, when in her previous deaths she died all alone. Inuyasha is willing to die for Kikyo, but Inuyasha is willing to live for Kagome. I didn't understand this at first because I hated Kikyo for interfering with Inuyasha & Kagome's standpat love... but I don't think his love for both of these women are comparable at all. Inuyasha will definitely be this sad if Kagome died, too.
The point is that both are same souls. How much of a coincidence in is it that you get back with the lover of your previous life. The story shows that love is eternal and transcends everything

Kikyo's death is very memorable and probably the best thing that the author made. I want her to be at peace but i cant still take it. The pain is too much.
I've always felt as though the argument for Kagome loves Inuyasha as who he is (a half-demon) while Kikyo wants him to change to a human is really weak. Kikyo loves Inuyasha as a half-demon, too. If she doesn't then she wouldn't have loved him at all in the first place. But because Kikyo wants a normal life, she has to get rid of the Shikon jewel somehow (because she was its guardian, like the video mentioned). She can either use it to turn Inuyasha into a human or a demon. If she wants a life with him then wouldn't turning him human be the obvious choice? So in the end, she wanted to turn him human so that they both can live a normal life, not because she doesn't love him as a half-demon.

I always assumed it was so they could marry and have a family. Kikyo was a miko, and the mikos had to remain virgin therefore could not marry or have babies. Kikyo wanted a life WITH Inuyasha and the only way that would be possible ia if 1)the jewel is gone and 2) Inuyasha was an ordinary man. Lets face it, she would not have been able to marry him as a demon, and he would not have been happy watching her grow old and die while he remained an immortal half demon who did not age. If they were both mortal they could have a normal life together. THAT is why Kikyo asked him to be human.
Also don’t forget that this whole anime actually stands on their tragic love story...nonr of it would’ve happened if they hadn’t fallen in love with each other.

Kikyo is the best girl, wife material, mature and if actually given more friends to surround her in the anime then she will definitely shine in a positive light. People always say that Kagome is so understanding, but they do not even try to understand Kikyo's pain and responsibility in life compared to a person whose only responsibility is herself. If Kagome was truly understanding, she would have let Inuyasha go to Kikyo because she is fully aware that she is alone, but no, she thought 'oh well, Kikyo can protect herself' . Truth be told, if Kikyo never died and Inuyasha has to choose, Inuyasha will always choose Kikyo over Kagome, any day, any time. Just wanted to appreciated this beautiful lady for all her hard work! Came back here again to say kikyo is forever inuyasha's true love. Even kagome is her reincarnation. In a way, kikyo always lives in his heart. Like he said, he wants to protect kikyo forever. Things that between Inuyasha and Kikyo were unique. Kikyo was Inuyasha's one and only true love. Because of this, Kikyo's death scene make me feel so real and cry everytime I watch. There's no regret loving each other in their tears.
Kikyo was the love of Inuyasha’s life, Kagome accepted that and it’s time all those immature people who hate her accept it too. He had never given up on her in this whole anime, they were only apart because Kikyo from the beginning was consumed by hatred since this was the only thing left to keep her alive after resurrection, but as she gradually regained her soul she came back to be the same kind, brave and caring miko who loved Inuyasha. She is a truly complex character and so tragic. I don’t know how some people don’t get her story...Inuyasha always searches for her and as he said himself, no day passed by without him thinking of her. There are so many hints in this anime that Inuyasha’s true love was Kikyo. I’m glad Kagome managed to give him peace though.
When I was 6-7 years old, I discovered Inuyasha. I had seen other Anime before and liked them very much. But Inuyasha was a special thing for me. It had so much beauty, so much deepness in it. I loved it. It wasn't like other stuff I had seen. It was really complex for a 6 year old child like me. I could follow the storyline for most parts, even if I hadn't seen the start. I watched it on TV and started at like episode 60 XD So there was that one character I just couldn't understand, no matter how hard I tried. I never recognized what this character was up to or what she would do next. It was Kikyou. And I loved it. I loved that she was so mysterious and just had this cool aura. She was one of the reasons I kept watching Inuyasha. She isn't my favorite character, but I liked her better than Kagome. I like both actually. I never undestood why people hated her. Actually I still don't get it. I think she is an extraordanary charcater. Are people just to stupid to see her motives? I don't want to belive that. As a kid I didn't understand her, either. But It didn't made me hate her. I presume, it's because people identify more with Kagome. She is an ordinary girl like the viewers are. So the rivalry between Kagome and Kikyou transfered to the audience. I'm glad some people changed thei mind about her. She hasn't deserved so much hate.
I just have a question. Actually when the first time I watched this scene in manga, I cried. At that time even now I have a different understanding for this dialogue betweem Inuyasha and Kikyo. Inuyasha:"I couldn't save you." Kikyo:" You came for me. That's enough." Does "I couldn't save you" means that Inuyasha couldn't save Kikyo at 50 years ago when Naraku hurt her. For this reason the tragedy happened then. And "You came for me" means that Inuyasha really kept his promise to go to meet Kikyo in that morning, which prove that he really care about her，so she say:"That's enough." Or this dialogue just mean Inuyasha just could not save kikyo at this time. Kikyo feel happy for his coming to save her. I feel the former understanding is more moving or make more senses.
I think when she said, "You came for me, that's enough" also means that she was truly grateful Inuyasha had spent his time with her before her first death (50 years ago). She used to be alone with Kaede, but Inuyasha changed her life.

Her character is tragic and incredibly misunderstood. And pitting Kagome and Kikyo over one another is useless too. Both of them are just as important to Inuyasha, the difference just lies in the timing of events. Inuyasha and Kikyo were in love with each other, but time prematurely ended their story, while Kagome and Inuyasha found a way to be in love with each other during a right timeline fitting for both of them. It's a realistic concept of love, and I adore how this anime portrays it. Time is a powerful aspect, and it's unfortunate how Kikyo's love for Inuyasha didn't work out well for both of them during their time. He's always going to have a soft spot for Kikyo, but it's just as important to acknowledge that she is his past, and her present is now Kagome.
Binged the whole series when I was in isolation from having covid-19. First time I ever teared up for an anime was this scene. Wish I had access to the show when I was younger, such a great series.

Im rewatching Inuyasha clips because of the *Inuyasha Sequel!!!* anyway, I’m sad that some people have to choose either Kikyo or Kagome and hate on the other, when really in the end both girls accept and respect the other. If there’s anyone to complain about it should be Inuyasha for falling in love with both of them!! (Tho of course I don’t blame him) Watching this when I was younger, of course I rooted for Kagome, because she’s our main heroine, and got annoyed whenever Kikyo would show up. But now im in my 20’s, and am able to appreciate the stunning and tragic character that Kikyo is, I can accept that Inuyasha’s greatest love is Kikyo. Their love story was really beautiful. But his love for Kagome is different. It was because of Kagome’s warmth that Inuyasha learned how to trust others. He will never forget Kikyo, but that doesn’t mean he loves Kagome less. Kagome is his present and future, and can bring him the happiness he deserves.

When I watched this anime as a kid,my favorite song was"dearest",but I always wondered"why is this song named like this?"and now,when I watched this scene and heard this version of the song,it kinda hit me:it's a tribute from Kikyo to Inuyasha!And no wonder this song plays when they kiss,"dearest",it's their song!
If you recall the moments when Kikyo looked happy with Inuyasha, the ending is as heartbreaking as it is beautiful. She was only a few steps away from what she wished for in her life with Inuyasha. A wish that may have looked like the moment of Kikyo fondly looking at Inuyasha sitting in a cherry tree, bashfully looking back at her. Thank you for the wonderful story of beautiful characters.

Gotta admit the first time I saw this episode (I was a little child) I kinda felt happy, a part of me was although I cried so much but by other hand I felt the deep sadness because of I empathised with how Inuyasha would feel about her death. But I kinda feel sad for Kikyo. She had the saddest life and the worst destiny someone can experience. His life's love could never happen even though they were truly in love they could never experience it and make it propoerly bloom like it supposed to be, then Kagome did all of that, she did everything Kikyo could have donde and wished for. I can't remember the episode but Kikyo said herself that if she was alive she could've saved and taken care of Inuyasha the right way he deserved because Inuyasha is also another broken/complicated soul but because death separated them Kagome got the chance to do all of that. Inuyasha himself said Kagome taugh him to love others, to trust in others, to have friends and love and be loved Kagome made out of Inuyasha a human with humanly feelings and emotions. So I think both Kagome and Kikyo are Inuyasha's true loves BUT Kikyo was his first (so she will never be forgotten) but Kagome was the one Inuyasha really opened his heart and bloomed because they had the time to do so. I think the only purpose of the anime to say Kagome is Kikyo's rencarnation is just because they needed a false first connection with Inuyasha, like they played with having a strong wire for Inuyasha to accept Kagome when they first met but the truth is that Kagome is a person and Kikyo is another different person blessed with the same powers and love.

Anyways, essentially Kikyou-one-sama, (notice how insist on the honorifics...), was just a shadow of who she once was... A Spectre made up of numerous other dead souls that wasn't able to move on and pass over into Nirvana... But yet, were dead and so, therefore, can't return to the World of the Living, or the Human Realm in Mahayana Buddhism. And so, are stuck in the Border between the World of the Living and the Netherworld.. Which is ironic and VERY coincidental, considering that's where Kikyo "died" for the 3rd and FINAL time lol. Kikyo is an incredible tragic character who transcended her Shounen medium. Disastrously underappreciated due to a bunch of superficial idiots who liked the series for the wrong reasons and had a messed up sense of morality.
This will haunt me forever. She was so kind and compassionate. Yet it was her very kindness and compassion that made her suffer throughout the series before and after her death. I cant contain this much sadness..

Kikyo is probably one of the most unfortunate characters ever. She was raised to be a pure miko to protect the shikonotama, however she fell in love with Inuyasha, a half demon who wasn't accepted by both human and demon. She wanted to turn Inuyasha into a human by using the shikonotama, but she was killed by Onigumo, someone she had saved. She also believed that Inuyasha was the one who killed her. Even after her death her only wish to the shikonotama was to stay with Inuyasha. Years later she was resurrected as an impure being, still believing that Inuyasha was the one who killed her. Later on she found out that the one who killed her wasn't Inuyasha, but Onigumo. Not only that, her love rival was Kagome, her own reincarnation. She died while trying to protect the shikonotama. Thinking back she was never truly happy. Kikyo's wish to the shikonotama was never granted. She didn't end up with Inuyasha.

Kikyo in particular is a well-made character. Many people hate her, but they don't realize that Kikyo was a teenage girl who gave up the privilege to live a normal life to be a sacred priestess whose priority was to protect the jewel, even though it wouldn't benefit her. She fell in love with a hanyo even though it was looked down upon. She later on died on the hands of the sinner whom she saved and believed that her lover was the one who did it. Many years later she was forcefully resurrected. She, who gave up the privilege to live a normal life to be a pure priestess, was forcefully resurrected as a vengeful impure being. Kikyo then found out that Inuyasha wasn't her murderer after all and her love rival is her own reincarnation. Even with all those sh*t, Kikyo's wish to the jewel was never granted.

But they were the only ones they could talk to. Kikyo had to remain "perfect" as a priestess, that meant no commitment to love. Her life and love was taken from her by Narakus schemes. And in her dying moment, she got weak and had one last wish to the jewel. Kikyo deserved a better life. Kagome is just a brat.

In the episodes after her death when Inuyasha is trapped by that Flower Prince or whatever he says he can feel the sorrow in Inuyasha a soul to have lost the woman he loved most in this world. And in the beginning of the series he chose Kikyo even if it meant following her in death. Kikyo had another path though and sacrificed her...life for the cause.

Sofii That’s the whole point, she WAS selfish. What do you mean she didn’t get rid of the jewel? When? She was burried with it! She wouldn’t have known that didn’t destroy it and she wanted to destroy the jewel at the end together with Naraku, did you even watch? She sacrificed her life for the purpose of protecting the jewel and gave up on Inuyasha even though she still loved him. Don’t forget that the Kikyo in the beginning, the one who had just been resurrected, was NOT the real Kikyo. As she collected more souls from shindamachi, she became more human and returned to her own self. Inuyasha realised that too, Kagome knew that too...she’s really a complex and exquisite character. Kagome isn’t all milk and sugar either, she’s also had some terrible fits and a nastier part of her character. And let’s not forget Kagome never went through what Kikyo had.

This anime/manga is the reason why I don't like reincarnated characters because this anime/manga traumatized me. 😭 It hurts to everyone involved. I always felt like Kikyo deserves more than what happened to her. What happened to her was injustice. She and Inu Yasha's (I didn't like him TBH, so wishy-washy. I love Sesshomaru 😂) love story was more deep and heartfelt.

Her life is just too tragic, I mean why must being so good? She literally sacrificed everything she had for the sake of others and then what she got in return? No one understood (except for Naraku, I guess) or stayed by her side, no one was there for her throughout the line, even Inuyasha, the love of her life... :(
In the end, Kikyou's existence was no doubt the highlight of this anime, which makes it a fantastic masterpiece and worth to watch. Without her, "Inuyasha" wouldn't have hold much emotion.

I'll never forgive Kagome's attitude towards Kikyo throughout. She couldn't be considerate enough to Kikyo or Inuyasha. She couldn't tolerate the mere mention of Kikyo's name which caused the fanbase to hate Kikyo for reasons they should've lover her for if they removed their fanboy/girl goggles.

Kikyo kept being tormented, she tried to hide her feelings and decided to leave Inuyasha all to Kagome. She's damn near-perfect!!
It's obvious that Kikyo was the polar opposite to Naraku. Where Naraku was depicted all-evil and demonic, Kikyo was all pure, all-good. But nevertheless with a vulnerable heart that needed tender care, because more than a priestess, she happened to be human.

I was so annoyed about how the viewers were absurdly manipulated to hate on Kikyo through Kagome and her friends who always complained when Inuyasha takes about her or went to search for her. For example when she supposedly died at Hakureizan, they were annoyed with Inuyasha for going to look for her damn body! How can anyone be so inconsiderate?! Inuyasha never ceased to care for Kikyo, I think that says something. A bunch of immature brats who didn’t get the compelxity of this character and this love story beyond death, that’s all I can say!

As much as I love and ship Inu and Kagome, I always thought that Kikyo is the love of Inuyasha's life.
I've always think like that too, he loves Kagome of course but... when it comes to Kykio he even forget her.
He admitted that Kagome was his one true love though. He will never forget his first love, but Kagome is the person he was born to be with.
Both of them were "true love" Kikyo was his past, and Kagome his future.
It's really that simple.
His connection to Kikyo was a lot deeper but he'll spend much longer time with Kagome because the random fate has so decided. This is how life goes, some things wont go as you'd expect them to, but you will learn from your mistakes as yo go along.
If Kikyo was truly alive and well, Inuyasha wouldn't have gone with Kagome. What separated Inuyasha from Kikyo was the sad reality, not the emotional connection. Kikyo's distancing herself symbolized the tragic and cruel truth, Inuyasha's obsession symbolized his love, affection and guilt. He was blessed with a second chance living, Kikyo wasn't.

It's pretty complex but their personalities and consciousnesses were entirely different. That's more than enough reason to separate the two, especially considering how the series kept emphasizing on that. Kikyo's soul didn't merge into Kagome's at the end which makes me wonder if her soul evolved and became independent.
I think the idea of Kagome being Kikyo's reincarnation symbolized the journey of a lover's fight to move forward. It was also an indirect way to allow Kikyo and Inuyasha to correct their past mistakes.
Kagome is literally Inuyasha's new "Kikyo" but Kikyo here probably meant "love" and not the actual Kikyo.
It's a bit confusing and is intentionally written in a way that doesn't make perfect sense. But there is some magic to that.
Man. I liked Kagome and disliked Kikyou at the beginning (because of how manipulative she was) but later on, how can you not grow to love her?
And I hate to admit this but, Inuyasha's love for Kikyou seems so much stronger than his love for Kagome... He cried so much more painfully than when I thought Kagome died. He's always thinking of her, looking for her, even after her death. And they've kissed so many times, if he had to choose he would still choose Kikyou, I think. It's only because she was evil at the time (even so, he still wanted her) and technically dead that Kagome and Inuyasha eventually ended up together. I still love Kagome a lot, I think she tries really hard and I love her character development, but the strong bond between Kikyou and Inuyashsha I am unable to ignore.

Inuyasha also loved kagome but his love for Kikyo was stronger, If they had defeated Naraku and used the jewel for Kikyo's life, Inuyasha would have ended up with her and they would have lived happily the way they had originally planned. kagome would have gone back to her time, to live a normal life. I wish that was what had happened.

I loved Kikyou's character from the very first time I watched InuYasha (I still love her). Something about her character captivated me, she was beautiful, strong, and determined and what she loved most was unfairly taken from her. I find her to be one of the most misunderstood characters in this anime because her intentions in the beginning were uncertain. People calling her a bitch and whatnot is childish and clearly don't empathize with her enough: she died believing the love of her life (a first love) had betrayed her and used her and was resurrected harboring those feelings. Her actions may have appeared as cruel or mean but her intentions were usually good. Her life was unjustly robbed from her, a life that would've involved InuYasha. This death scene always gets to me and makes me an emotional wreck when I watch it. I think InuYasha's love for Kikyou is much stronger than that of Kagome's. I'm not trying to bash on Kagome, I admit I really disliked her when I first watched the series (I was in middle school), but she has redeeming qualities from her and I have a much better opinion about her than before. Had Kikyou not passed, I think InuYasha would've stayed with her over Kagome, maybe even wish her back to life with the jewel. Their bond can never be broken, I just wished two people that deeply loved each other could've been together.

She suffered so much and not once really got what she wanted. BUT, I have to disagree on Kagome. It is not like she is my favorite heroine, but I do quite like her character, because she is different from other anime leads. I feel like what Inuyasha in the end felt was not really love as one may think. He does not cry about his love dying, he cries about the first woman he ever cared about dying. I feel like even if she survived, he would have chosen Kagome. I may be one single person thinking that, but up to that point, Inuyasha's feelings for Kagome were deeper than the lingering feelings he had for Kikyo. He cried for his first love, for the woman he wanted to protect but died nonetheles deaths anyway and why? Bascially because of him. He feels guilty and one last time kisses Kikyo because he wanted to let go the woman whose heart he gave for the first time in his life. Up to that point, he already loved Kagome more than Kikyo, but the feeling of letting go, really letting go his first love forever is a painful thing to do. I feel for him. It is nothing one ever wants to do. And I feel for Kikyo, I loved her character and I feel for her so much, that it makes me cry everytime when I see this scene.

Kagome is the reincarnation and reborn form of Kagome. Kikyo wished to the Shikon Jewel to become an ordinary woman and be with Inuyasha. That's why Kagome was born.

I think that Inuyasha series are true cure for the heart. Without being too graphical. It touches the painful issues between humans and implores compassion, ability to forgive and care for another. It's a fairy tale, but beautiful one and like any fairy tale, there is a lot to learn and ponder from it...
That's what you choose to take from it. I see it from different perspective. DESPITE having her love and life stolen from her. Kikyou still has strength to forgive and let go. (that's not what happens in real life I know but that's why I say it's a fairy tail).
Besides, the true villain of the story is Naraku who in his hatred and jealousy tore Inuyasha and Kikyou apart.
Besides, what do you mean, right? Kykiou was dead, and was brought back to life as vengeful ghost. She WAS a monster. And even than Inuyasha kept running to her every time, torn between his new feelings for Kagome and his old forcibly revived feeling for Kikyou.
How is that fair to any of them?
Yet, they still have strength to put and dumper on their own feelings and concentrate on defeating Naraku.

For a true inuyasha fan, it's just impossible not to be sad in front of this scene, without necessarily crying, just being sad. For me, not loving Kikyo is either not liking the anime / manga Inuyasha or not understanding the story.

It is the same soul but I don’t think we should forget that Kikyo and Kagome are two different people and it is obviously because Kagome grew up in a modern era and Kikyo was raised in an older time. It is great that Inuyasha ended up with the same soul, but if I was Kikyo I would be upset if I saw the love of my life love another versions of me, because even if we have the same soul, I am still me, right?
@@Anakin737 The point was, there was no way the same soul can live in the same time, it was Kikyo's relentlessness that she committed the crime of stealing other soul so she could live on that dirt clay body. At that point when Kikyo died by Naraku's hands, she was already gone. This Kikyo was essentially just a shell, and Kikyo was in Kagome already. Unlike what most people think, Kikyo didn't stay for InuYasha, for revenge or otherwise. It's because she needed to defeat Naraku, which she couldn't trust to her ownself(Kagome) and proceeded to put it in her lifeless hands. In the end, she got defeated and accepted the fact that she will live on, through Kagome and their love with Inuyasha.

IDK why, but as a writer I've always wanted Inuyasha and Kikyo to be the endgame ship. Kagome is great and all, but she is a moderner, and a child, and this was the perfect opportunity for her to have a Paper Town kind of revelation. She loved and endured a lot as a result, of course, but it would be so cool if the treasure waiting for her at the end of the line was maturity and competence instead of a happily ever after ride into the sunset. She could have returned to her old life at home with the wisdom of an adult and went far in life, and that to me sounds like a much more profound message for a show to send. I guess my saltiness is also because I'm just tired of seeing young love like this ALWAYS work out in fiction when in reality they're about as lasting as cottage cheese.
I Need You Oh pleaseee write a version like this! It’s perfect! I’ve ALWAYS thought that way. It would have been absolutely perfect, I just feel it would have. Kikyou really deserved a happy ending after all the pain and tragedy, Inuyasha loved her too and shouldn’t have suffered so much. I’m sure Kagome would’ve gotten over it, she seemed to have respect for their love story even though she was jealous. The writers kept dropping hints throughout the series that Kikyo was a Inuyasha’s first choice: he initially started to care for Ksgome because she supposedly looked like her, he chose her over Kagome and swore to protect Kikyo all his life, Kagomr herself said she would always be second fiddle to Kikyo, that Flowr Prince in the Final Act said Inuyasha lost the woman he loved the most in the world...This ending would have been much better for a change, a breath of fresh air from this childish love stories. A stronger and more tragic love story deserved the foreground, not the background.
BlueSwampyCraft I would consider this Kikyo’s happy ending. No matter what, she’ll still be dead and using souls to sustain herself just a little longer. The way her story ended, she got closure and got to die being held in her lovers arms. Her soul is no longer burdened and she can pass into the afterlife in peace.
I agree it’s a shame that she never got to be with Inuyasha herself, but it’s still beautiful that her soul literally transcended time to be with the man she loved again. That’s why I wouldn’t consider him being with Kagome as anything negative, it’s the same soul just raised in completely different circumstances. Kagome is what Kikyo should’ve been had she grown up being what she wanted, an ordinary woman.
Fun fact: Rumiko actually wanted to split Inuyasha and Kagome at the end but decides to let them stay together because the fans wanted that.

She had died; her time in the living world was over, just like if I died I wouldn't want my loved one to mourn me forever. Inuyasha had moved, but then I realize that Kikyo and Kagome are technically the same, if Kikyo hadn't died there would be no Kagome. They do have different personalities and different ways of reacting to love and loss, but that's because Kagome didn't remember anything from her past life. It's like people who wake up from a coma without any memories, they develop different traits biased on their surroundings. That's what reincarnation means! SHE IS KIKYO, KIKYO IS KAGOME; just without her memories and miko lifestyle. Inuyasha loves THEM. There is no love triangle, it's just one begin in different stages of their soul's life. I think that's why they stopped being jealous over one another, perhaps they realized how silly it is to be jealous over yourself.
You're completely right, Kikyo and Kagome are indeed the same person. However, when a person wakes up from a coma, and loses all her memories, the other people(her friends, families) made those memories with her, even if she doesn't remember it. I Inuyasha made those memories with Kikyo, and not Kagome. They may share the same soul, but their personality is completely different, and the way they both love Inuyasha is different, and so technically, the love he shares with Kikyo is completely different from the one he shares with Kagome. And there is technically a love triangle in this story as he had to choose. There was a point of time where Inuyasha had to choose between Kagome and Kikyo. The soul isn't what makes a person, their heart, their thought and their personality does.

Idk why I'm watching Inuyasha in 2020 but one thing I'm sure of is... Inuyasha will never forget Kikyo no matter what... because she's his greatest love. But I also think that Inuyasha will always choose Kagome no matter what. Inuyasha loved Kikyo, but Inuyasha loves Kagome. It's been hard for him because when she died and learned the truth about Naraku, he slowly accepts her death and then uses it as his drive to avenge her life... but then she came to life and all his feelings overflowed again, remembering all the times they used to have and this time he wanted to make it right. But it's different now because he also has Kagome. It'll always be hard on Inuyasha if she keeps resurfacing death after death, and this time it hurts because she died in his arms, when in her previous deaths she died all alone. Inuyasha is willing to die for Kikyo, but Inuyasha is willing to live for Kagome. I didn't understand this at first because I hated Kikyo for interfering with Inuyasha & Kagome's standpat love... but I don't think his love for both of these women are comparable at all. Inuyasha will definitely be this sad if Kagome died, too.

I've always felt as though the argument for Kagome loves Inuyasha as who he is (a half-demon) while Kikyo wants him to change to a human is really weak. Kikyo loves Inuyasha as a half-demon, too. If she doesn't then she wouldn't have loved him at all in the first place. But because Kikyo wants a normal life, she has to get rid of the Shikon jewel somehow (because she was its guardian, like the video mentioned). She can either use it to turn Inuyasha into a human or a demon. If she wants a life with him then wouldn't turning him human be the obvious choice? So in the end, she wanted to turn him human so that they both can live a normal life, not because she doesn't love him as a half-demon.

I always assumed it was so they could marry and have a family. Kikyo was a miko, and the mikos had to remain virgin therefore could not marry or have babies. Kikyo wanted a life WITH Inuyasha and the only way that would be possible ia if 1)the jewel is gone and 2) Inuyasha was an ordinary man. Lets face it, she would not have been able to marry him as a demon, and he would not have been happy watching her grow old and die while he remained an immortal half demon who did not age. If they were both mortal they could have a normal life together.

Kikyo is the best girl, wife material, mature and if actually given more friends to surround her in the anime then she will definitely shine in a positive light. People always say that Kagome is so understanding, but they do not even try to understand Kikyo's pain and responsibility in life compared to a person whose only responsibility is herself. If Kagome was truly understanding, she would have let Inuyasha go to Kikyo because she is fully aware that she is alone, but no, she thought 'oh well, Kikyo can protect herself' . Kikyo was the love of Inuyasha’s life, Kagome accepted that and it’s time all those immature people who hate her accept it too. He had never given up on her in this whole anime, they were only apart because Kikyo from the beginning was consumed by hatred since this was the only thing left to keep her alive after resurrection, but as she gradually regained her soul she came back to be the same kind, brave and caring miko who loved Inuyasha. She is a truly complex character and so tragic. I don’t know how some people don’t get her story...Inuyasha always searches for her and as he said himself, no day passed by without him thinking of her. There are so many hints in this anime that Inuyasha’s true love was Kikyo. I’m glad Kagome managed to give him peace though.

When I was 6-7 years old, I discovered Inuyasha. I had seen other Anime before and liked them very much. But Inuyasha was a special thing for me. It had so much beauty, so much deepness in it. I loved it. It wasn't like other stuff I had seen. It was really complex for a 6 year old child like me. I could follow the storyline for most parts, even if I hadn't seen the start. I watched it on TV and started at like episode 60 XD So there was that one character I just couldn't understand, no matter how hard I tried. I never recognized what this character was up to or what she would do next. It was Kikyou. And I loved it. I loved that she was so mysterious and just had this cool aura. She was one of the reasons I kept watching Inuyasha. She isn't my favorite character, but I liked her better than Kagome. I like both actually. I never undestood why people hated her. Actually I still don't get it. I think she is an extraordanary charcater. Are people just to stupid to see her motives? I don't want to belive that. As a kid I didn't understand her, either. But It didn't made me hate her. I presume, it's because people identify more with Kagome. She is an ordinary girl like the viewers are. So the rivalry between Kagome and Kikyou transfered to the audience. I'm glad some people changed thei mind about her. She hasn't deserved so much hate.
I just have a question. Actually when the first time I watched this scene in manga, I cried. At that time even now I have a different understanding for this dialogue betweem Inuyasha and Kikyo. Inuyasha:"I couldn't save you." Kikyo:" You came for me. That's enough." Does "I couldn't save you" means that Inuyasha couldn't save Kikyo at 50 years ago when Naraku hurt her. For this reason the tragedy happened then. And "You came for me" means that Inuyasha really kept his promise to go to meet Kikyo in that morning, which prove that he really care about her，so she say:"That's enough." Or this dialogue just mean Inuyasha just could not save kikyo at this time. Kikyo feel happy for his coming to save her. I feel the former understanding is more moving or make more senses.

Her character is tragic and incredibly misunderstood. And pitting Kagome and Kikyo over one another is useless too. Both of them are just as important to Inuyasha, the difference just lies in the timing of events. Inuyasha and Kikyo were in love with each other, but time prematurely ended their story, while Kagome and Inuyasha found a way to be in love with each other during a right timeline fitting for both of them. It's a realistic concept of love, and I adore how this anime portrays it. Time is a powerful aspect, and it's unfortunate how Kikyo's love for Inuyasha didn't work out well for both of them during their time. He's always going to have a soft spot for Kikyo, but it's just as important to acknowledge that she is his past, and her present is now Kagome.

But now im in my 20’s, and am able to appreciate the stunning and tragic character that Kikyo is, I can accept that Inuyasha’s greatest love is Kikyo. Their love story was really beautiful. But his love for Kagome is different. It was because of Kagome’s warmth that Inuyasha learned how to trust others. He will never forget Kikyo, but that doesn’t mean he loves Kagome less. Kagome is his present and future, and can bring him the happiness he deserves.

When I watched this anime as a kid,my favorite song was"dearest",but I always wondered"why is this song named like this?"and now,when I watched this scene and heard this version of the song,it kinda hit me:it's a tribute from Kikyo to Inuyasha!And no wonder this song plays when they kiss,"dearest",it's their song!
If you recall the moments when Kikyo looked happy with Inuyasha, the ending is as heartbreaking as it is beautiful. She was only a few steps away from what she wished for in her life with Inuyasha. A wish that may have looked like the moment of Kikyo fondly looking at Inuyasha sitting in a cherry tree, bashfully looking back at her. Thank you for the wonderful story of beautiful characters.
I cried at this scene :'((((((((((((( after how many years I'm still attached to every character in Inuyasha
please tell me why? Why should the author die than let her. I cried a lot while watching clips of Kikyo, but I'm glad in tears because Kikyo can finally go peacefully, no longer suffering that this world has left her household
Gotta admit the first time I saw this episode (I was a little child) I kinda felt happy, a part of me was although I cried so much but by other hand I felt the deep sadness because of I empathised with how Inuyasha would feel about her death. But I kinda feel sad for Kikyo. She had the saddest life and the worst destiny someone can experience. His life's love could never happen even though they were truly in love they could never experience it and make it propoerly bloom like it supposed to be, then Kagome did all of that, she did everything Kikyo could have donde and wished for. I can't remember the episode but Kikyo said herself that if she was alive she could've saved and taken care of Inuyasha the right way he deserved because Inuyasha is also another broken/complicated soul but because death separated them Kagome got the chance to do all of that. Inuyasha himself said Kagome taugh him to love others, to trust in others, to have friends and love and be loved Kagome made out of Inuyasha a human with humanly feelings and emotions. So I think both Kagome and Kikyo are Inuyasha's true loves BUT Kikyo was his first (so she will never be forgotten) but Kagome was the one Inuyasha really opened his heart and bloomed because they had the time to do so. I think the only purpose of the anime to say Kagome is Kikyo's rencarnation is just because they needed a false first connection with Inuyasha, like they played with having a strong wire for Inuyasha to accept Kagome when they first met but the truth is that Kagome is a person and Kikyo is another different person blessed with the same powers and love.
Kikyo deserve much better than she have suffered. Inuyasha and Kikyo's love was eternal and unfulfilled which it makes it more painful at the same time you can see that love can be eternal
GUYS stop hating on our Dearest and sweet Kikyo-one-sama!!! It wasn't her fault what happened!! WE would end up harbouring the same amount of hatred, anger, and/or resentment if we were in her shoes and walked what she walked!! You can't blame her!! It just goes to show that she's human and, therefore, imperfect... Which makes her even more beautiful and "PERFECT"!!! (if you guys get what I mean!! Lol) And plus, she's NOT her former self... She's a Spectre... NOT a living being of FLESH AND BLOOD. Her time has come and past. She was just resurrected in a literal "undead" form, if you guys get what I mean, because her soul wasn't able to move on to Nirvana or the Netherworld... (which is, in essence, the afterlife). If you're gonna blame anyone, blame Naraku... The primary antagonist responsible for nearly EVERYONE's misery.. Even minor characters lol... Or I guess you can say TECHNICALLY, the Demon of the Shikon no Tama was the TRUE antagonist if you catch my drift lol.. Anyways, essentially Kikyou-one-sama, (notice how insist on the honorifics...), was just a shadow of who she once was... A Spectre made up of numerous other dead souls that wasn't able to move on and pass over into Nirvana... But yet, were dead and so, therefore, can't return to the World of the Living, or the Human Realm in Mahayana Buddhism. And so, are stuck in the Border between the World of the Living and the Netherworld.. Which is ironic and VERY coincidental, considering that's where Kikyo "died" for the 3rd and FINAL time lol.
