i just tried this with a bunch of flowers/herbs from my backyard and made the most delicious smelling perfume!! thank you for the tutorial! the everclear was hard to find but it’s worth it. i left it sit for ~29 hours and the alcohol aroma is completely replaced by a light floral aroma! for anyone curious i used 75% gardenia flowers, a basil flower, a few pieces of rosemary and sage, petunias, and stuffed the rest of the jar with dried lavender :) it smells musky and fruity and just what i was looking for
Thank you for this video, it's straight to the point and very helpful. My 9 year old daughter wants to make a perfume from some of my roses in my garden, so off I go...lol.
@Tasha4646 Water is not something that can extract the scent from another subsctance, in this case flower petals. Also, water will actually spoil the flower petals (rotting)
@6ajrocks everclear is dirt cheap. but it may be illegal in your home state. There's still places that sell it though. Like Mom & Pop liquor stores rather than from the supermarket.
AWESOME! I HAVE TWO VERY UNIQUE ROSES, ONE IS FROM THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC CALLED BLACK PRINCE, AND THE OTHER IS A PALE LAVENDER ROSE CALLED STERLING SILVER! BOTH ARE UNEQUALED IN FRAGRANCE! WHERE CAN I BUY THE GRAIN ETOH?
A carrier Oil like Jojoba or Almond oil with a neutral smell it will be used as a rub in or cream though or you can do a cream with the ancient method of enfleurage good luck❤❤
okay there 2 kinds of everclear the 190 proof and 151 proof which one we suppose to use? how long after production date does the perfume expir? and if we use it alone as a perfume will it stick on the skin for long or will it be like one of those body spray that will smell good for only a few minutes?
@mortalkomyahoo Straining the flowers,, does it get rid of the little flower debris, leaves etc? Do you strain the flowers first then put in everclear?
I've heard of using water and leaving it in the sun for a long time or pour boiling water over the flowers. The best option would be to use alcohol and if it smells like alcohol when your done then add water to dilute it.
A tincture will last for many many years if stored in a dark coloured bottle and in a cool dark cupboard away from direct light. Whether the aroma will last that long, I don't know.
Fruits have alot of water inside of them so it would slow the process if you did oranges I would probably use the peels if you did want to do a strawberry you might want to crush it and squeeze the liquid out then throw it in the highest percentage alcohol you can find then wait longer than 3 days because the fruits will still have more liquid than typical flowers.
i did this but with rubbing alcohol but it was 50% and with red roses and to be honest its been there for about 17 hours and it smells just like turpentine hahaha idk what this is now ima let it stay longer and see what happens
I know this is six years ago 😅But to me the best flower scent ever is jasmine. There is a jasmine plant in my garden and i love it so much but I’m not sure which variant it is.
I have a pink jasmine in my garden that smells heavenly! Also a gardenia also! Several roses. And they do smell different not all roses smell the same! So…I actually don’t have any red roses 🫣 lol Because of that generic smell to me you know? I love a more citrus scent. Uhh oh! There are orchids that have scent also. Lilac! Lavender. Peony is a favorite. White oleander (smell like vanilla at night. They’re poisonous though so be careful handling them) and of course also honeysuckle! A favorite as a kid. I hope that helps 😊
@@chrisss3233I love jasmine too! Haha apparently we’re all still making fragrances years later! How did yours turn out? I’m going to try with some mixtures of my blooms this late spring
@@brittanyhill9106 it did so well! And it's amazingly preserved! I still have a bottle of it on a shelf with other flowers I tried and it's still got that same scent that instantly sends me down memory lane the way only a scent can.
Yes rubbing alcohol but it is usually only up to 92 percent, everclear is 95 percent so it's just a little stronger. To be honest I dont think It would matter either way but i would let it soak for maybe 3 days if its rubbing alcohol
Most perfumes have alcohol in them, that is why it dries so quickly when you spray it on. It evaporates leaving the oils behind (where the scent comes from)

Could i ask if you tried it and did it work?
Yes. you can. You can use 90% rubbing alcohol, too.
-Chemistry major
I have 99% do you think that will work?

@@CharlieThePython For what it's worth, yes. It would probably work better than 90%!
