Go ahead and add a second servo, save yourself some time changing them. The original don't hold up very long at all. I put 1/10 scale motor in mine with a max 10 esc. It's nuts lol. Them diffs don't hold long either, even stock.
Speaking about body posts, this car is a perfect candidate for using Velcro to hold the body on, instead of clips. Just place the Velcro between the battery doors and your body, and you're golden.
I never thought that velcro could be strong enough of a hold. If it works then I would prefer the ease of it by long and far over clips etc Great suggestion. ty. o7!
Wow, how timely this video is! I bought my 1/16 Revo a couple months ago. Just returned from a 10 day camping trip a couple days ago. I'd packed the car, radio, batteries, charger, parts and tools all in a single backpack. Went through probably 4 batteries throughout the trip in my downtime. Found myself doing more crawling maneuvers around the campsite, than fast stuff. Maybe that's a hint I need to invest in a mini crawler as well.
Driving my 1/10 erevo vxl around recently and shredded the center drive shaft because of rocks. Got it fixed over the weekend and ready to rip again. Love the ERevo's!!!
I’ve always been a traxxas guy. But I love, and own a lot of other RC car brands too. Like associated, Losi, etc. This was a great video, Mark. I’ve recently bought the XRT and slash BL 2s and love them both. As I used to be a nitro only guy back in the late 90’s, early 2000’s, when the electrics were nowhere near what they are now. I’ve been on the fence about this mini E revo for a while. But this video convinced me I may just need to get one 😂 Please keep these awesome videos coming!
Sorry if it’s a little late but congratulations on 100,000 subscribers that is truly amazing and most UA-camrs would never get there. Hope you had a great time in Mexico.
You forgot one of the most important upgrades for the MERV though: center diff. It helps lessen the impact on that rear diff, and just generally makes it drive better. But yes, it is an amazing travel companion that takes no space in the trunk and is insanely fun. I run mine on two 3S 1300 mAh packs in parallel, and the runtime is 40-60 minutes depending on how hard I bash it. Just when running it on 3S (or two NiMHs in series) do install the "speed" pinion. It's actually smaller than the stock (25T vs 29T, iirc), otherwise it'll be overheating badly. I run mine on 25T pinion with 54T spur, and it still overheats if I run it continuously for longer periods.
I agree with some of the comments about adding the center diff. Made me love driving so much more. And the aluminum pivot caps can work there way out so check on them often. On 3 s it’s out of control and gonna kill diffs.
Growing up, we use to go snow skiing in that area (red river and angelfire) every spring break. You think it's beautiful now, you should see it when it's all covered in snow!!!
@SoulciaLight - I'll always remember the first time going up there for SB. We were coming from the east, cresting the mountain @ Eagles Nest. and that lake (Eagles Nest Lake) was completely frozen over. Hundreds of people were walking in the middle of it!! Crazy
I have 2 Mervs and they are my favorite trucks! Replace the center locker with a differential,nd that will control the wheelies. Always run mine on 3s, and beat the crap out of 'em!
I was kind of fighting myself and just said screw it and ordered the brushed version from Traxxas themselves. Super glad I did. Plenty fast for the size and they are all out of stock.
I just came back from camping with my E- Revo mini just like yours. I added the wheely bar because it NEEDS it. I can say, ounce for ounce, it preforms just as well as its big brother. I also got the lipo( never used the nickle metal one).
Was really considering the mini e-revo as my first RC, but backed out cause of how much more support the slash had. Still a great little RC for the price.
Out of all my cars and trucks my mini is my favorite to drive. Its a blast and fast AF for a small car. 3s is fun though. I would recommend slipper clutch eliminator though.
How funny! I just bought the exact same car (purple and all) a little over a week ago with plans to take it on my road-trip coming up. I am glad you have a grip of upgrades already because I wasn't sure what to buy for It first and now I have an idea! Thanks for the awesome content and your vacation spots looks relaxing.
Still have mine since 2012, only broke 2 front A-arms so far, got it replaced with rpm front A arms last year and never had a problem again although I would highly recommend you putting a metal-geared servo, the stock servo will either break it's gears or burn one of the capacitors on the pcb causing it to stop working. Either way, solid fun rc car Edit: put thicker shocks fluid.
How do you run batteries in cereal? Wouldn't that be a waste of food? Also, get the open center diff, it keep the trucks power on the road, won't wheelie ad much?
I took my Bruiser with a lexan Ford body camping for 10 years. Kids had their stampedes. Have all lights on the Bruiser. New vehicle to take is gonna be a Axial Gladiator or a Traxxas Built up TRX4 Sport. Full lights. Kids still have their new stampedes with lights.
I do recommend the hot rave helix cut diff especially in the rear had to put one in mine due to shredding the ring and pinion gears on even just nimh batteries but i love mine as well
B4 you buy a rally wait till fall they will have a clip-less body mounting system and a new 2S lipo power system...and new new body will be released for the rally also....should be really cool!!!!
The merv was my first RC a little over 10+ years ago. I never ran LIPO on it and it still did wheelies like crazy! the weakest link I had with mine was the chassis itself. The front always snapped off and ended up breaking nearly every time I drove it. I miss that little car but it took me out of the RC world for 10yrs until I was an adult and could actually afford hopups/repairs. Now I mainly run crawlers and am picking up a slash soon to run spec slash races. Maybe one day I'll grab myself another Merv. Or better yet, the full sized Revo will call my name
Glad you’re enjoying it. Out of the dozens of cars I’ve had over the years, this was the biggest pain in the a** I’ve ever owned. Diffs stripping like crazy, even when properly shimmed. Wheel driveshafts kept popping out and the thing that was most annoying is you have to basically disassemble the entire car to access the front/rear diffs. Sold mine. Traxxas makes some good rigs, had most over the years but wasn’t a fan of this one.
I haven’t had any diff issues 3s 2 haven’t broken anything except the servo gears I swapped in the metal gears so won’t have to worry about that anymore but sucks you had bad luck
When i got back into RCs in 2010, i bought this as i had more fun with 1/18th scales in my front yard and dead end street. I run a Mamba 10th scale brishless motor and dual Max Amps lipos. Only thing i dont like is the shock setup and how a little more difficult it is to work on. Its a weird platform but pretty ddurable stock
Hey Mark, my 1/16th E-Revo (MERv) arrives today. I ordered the parts in this video plus the center diff, heat sink (live in hot NV), wheelie bar and a clear body. Last week I was at my local hobby store (LHS) looking for both E-Revo sizes. My LHS was out of stock for both sizes. The manager looked at me and said, "Great cars! Traxxas is out of stock on the 1/10th scale. Wherever you can find them, if you really want them I would advise you to get one now." I asked if he thought they were going to stop making them, especially the 1/10th since the Sledge is now out. He winked his eye at me and smiled. I am going to take that as a yes since he has never suggested not waiting on him to get stock before. After going through many online retailers they either had one left, only had the brushed version for $199.99, out of stock or store pickup only. I bought both from another retailer that day. Even if he is wrong, I have what I wanted.
You are bold for wrenching on that 🧀 cheese grater of a table! Only downside to the MERV is the shock oil drains out faster than water. Put Velcro on either side of the body and wave goodbye to body clips forever!
I travel for work because I work in the carnival and festival business as a food vendor and I bring most of my rc’s with me.. and the brushless merv is one of my favorite cars too bring with me 😊
Wish they sold them more in Aussie I wanted 1 before I got my rustler 4x4 vxl but they are so hard to get here and parts are too 😢. They are so light and nimble would be awesome for the kids.
Nice! I have this exact one! When I first got it I ran 2 of the NiMH batteries that it comes with in serial. Even faster that way! It was too fast, so know I run it with the 2 2cells in parallel.

Great video @MarkSantaMaria ! Question : Traxxas' site say the wire harness part# mentioned in the video is for NIMH only. Is it ok to run two 2S LIPO's in parallel with this harness without any repercussions?

It needs stiffer shock oil (60wt+) and stiffer rear springs. Also it overheats so not a good idea to run 2S in parallel. I need a 2S; probably gonna get a Gens Ace 2200mah 60C 2S once they’re back in stock.
Awesome video man, it really helped a noob like me in deciding to get this car. I have a question though. You have the 2 Lipo batteries running in parallel, but on the Traxxas website the description for the cable you used says it only works with the NiMH batteries. Does it work with the two Lipos after all?

Great video bro, but shame on you for running that stop sign so many times. Also I did the same with my hot rod when I got it chased several cars down. It's a blast. 🤣
Bro if you don't have a rally yet, your missing out big time, it's by far the most fun I've had with an rc. I use one for a peed car on 8s and the other is stock with locked diffs. Freaking absolute rippers. You wouldn't think a few changes to a slash would work so differently.
I love the E revo! It's a speed demon out the box! The big one is out of stock, but I've seen it at other retailers. I take it with me when I travel too! Might be time for a crawler, though. 🤔

I have that exact one. Other then needing thicker shock oil and thicker oil or in the diffs, its an absolute beast of a car. It is in my 5 cars in my collection.
I love my mini Revo! It’s such a fun car but I keep breaking the left rear axel right at the tire. I’m hoping thicker diff fluid is the answer but any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Is that a metric hex bit attached to the Dewalt impact gun? If so, can you please provide links for the metric hex bit and the adapter for it?
Thanks.
Loving the slo-mo!
9:50 that probably a delay on the trigger pull timing
Bro if you don't have a rally yet, your missing out big time, it's by far the most fun I've had with an rc. I use one for a peed car on 8s and the other is stock with locked diffs. Freaking absolute rippers. You wouldn't think a few changes to a slash would work so differently.
i was thinking about the mini summit. How would one of those work for a light carry all around rc?
Get one you won't regret it!
Just as fun if not slightly more versatile since it has larger tires and ride height
I'm going to have to stick to the mjx hypergo but that's definitely a cool little rc car.
I love the E revo! It's a speed demon out the box! The big one is out of stock, but I've seen it at other retailers. I take it with me when I travel too! Might be time for a crawler, though. 🤔
Hi there, last week I was at my local hobby store (LHS) looking for both E-Revo sizes.
I have that exact one. Other then needing thicker shock oil and thicker oil or in the diffs, its an absolute beast of a car. It is in my 5 cars in my collection.
i have the 1/8 e revo and its awsome my dad had the 1/16 e revo and he likes it to
I have the mini summit which is the same drive line , The rear diff goes out a lot
I love my mini Revo!
It’s such a fun car but I keep breaking the left rear axel right at the tire.
I’m hoping thicker diff fluid is the answer but any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Did you ever fit the hop ups?
Amazing review. I am sold on it
does the big 2S 5800mAh Traxxas packs fit in that thing? i get an hour+ on my 4300kv brushless conversion 2WD stampede.
Slap some summit tires they have different colors and yes velcro the body
Excellent choice. 3S is insane fun.
