- In this lecture, I'd like to explain the common misconception that Deleuze and Guattari advocate for you literally becoming schizophrenic. This is an admittedly fair surface-level reading of their work, solely because they have a very creative and oftentimes confusing writing style, but it is an incorrect assumption. I will explain how they establish the notion of schizophrenia as a counter to Freudian and certain Lacanian strands of psychoanalysis. Enjoy!

your channel and videos are great, number one thing you need is a microphone closer to your mouth, whether that's a clip on or boom, audio is 90% of perceived quality of a video
@@Lynnaverym Yeah on my other lectures where I don’t have my face the audio quality is much better because my mic is closer to my mouth. Not much I can do about it with the equipment I have at the time when I still want to have my face :/

Hey! Recently came across your channel and I really love it. I am still an amateur in philosophy. Would you by have any chance have any book recommendations or simply any advice on how to start with philosophy? Where to start from
@@thirteenhundredandtwo Thank you for the kind words! I have a video giving some advice on how to self-learn philosophy, but generally I’d say to just cast a wide net and try your best to give charitable interpretations. Also, take everything on the internet with a grain of salt; you’ll quickly find that someone who sounds like an authority on someone has misread them or hasn’t even read them at all (and I’m no exception to this rule!). For book recommendations, I highly recommend Descartes’ “Meditations on First Philosophy”. It’s a staple of modern philosophy (the “modern” philosophical period starts in like the mid 1600s, so the name is kinda a misnomer lol) and is both approachable and interesting. It’s all about how we can know things, as well as his attempt to provide a firm proof for God. Despite my disagreements with him on many things, it’s an undeniably great text. You can’t go wrong with reading any of Plato’s dialogues if you’re interested in that kind of stuff. Meno is an easier one. I’m really not that obsessed with Plato, but he’s thorough and approachable while still being complex enough to yield a lifetime of thought. If you have any particular interests, I can give more tailored recommendations, but those are always my general ones!

unrelated to the video: if you're comfortable saying so, what instrument did you play. i wasn't all state in 2020-2021 but im wondering if we were ever in the same room or something lmfao
@@gegriddleton1 I was all-state bassoon, but it was during Covid and they did the conference online (basically just a masterclass with our section and listening to a few speakers). It was pretty boring but def glad to have it under my belt I guess 🤷♂️
Its part of the healing process they are proposing with schizoanalysis. remember this is related to the connective syntesis (and, and) where you add stuff to desire and try to map it even if its not coherent. Doing it Artaud theater of cruelty way (surrealism + sensorial) is effective because its potent. its a way to deterritorialize you away from capitalism and aedipus. what comes next is also schizophrenic in a way but you will need the disjunctive syntesis (or, or) to reterritorialize desire into something that you decide from your will. desire fron body without organs nows flows directly into what you want and not what family and society got you stuck with (perfect child, successful, etc)

@@gavinyoung-philosophy actual use of schizoanalysis in clinical settings is almost anecdotical (some experiences in brazil, argentina) but is interesting to have this kind of discussions to generate the framework and the tools from philosophy for clinicians or people to use it. D and G used the obscure language as a safety measure to prevent capitalist capture. but a potent enough framework would be able to defend itself from capitalist decoding and recoding attempts. they gave us the state machine and the war machine (and lots of other machines) not only to explain society but as hidden in sight tools to use it for revolution, and to also prevent capture from fascistic type of revolutions.
@@pabloguzman8472 I totally agree. It’s a penetrating ontological investigation as much as it is a clearly delineated, systematic clinical framework (in fact, it’s very little of the latter since they recognize there to be so many open ends that need not be tied up).
