Thanks a bunch! Very inspiring. I am very new to maxMSP but I am wondering - regarding a project I am busy with - could this idea also be used to sample a live video feed & have slices of the live video feed performed through midi? Would love to hear what your approach would be.
Hi Andrew, I would like to detail info. The slicing issue was uniform. Is it possible to slice the wavefor at any depose of sound. Leaving short or very short phrase of song. Thanks
Hi, thank's for this Tutorial, i'm trying to make "old Shool" sampler with sampler start ( loopStar / loopEnd) and the end of sample on release, all store with the sample for reload all the sample set instrument. Can you help please ? regards.
Thank you for this informative and really great video! I noticed that my sample is playing double mono. Is this an issue with the mc.groove~ object or am i doing something wrong? I tried to change the argument to @chans 1 but this gives me only the left channel in the left speaker
Brilliant Channel. I Love the Advanced Technical Coverage. How would you control an Ableton sampler scrolling playhead in M4L waveform while playing a sample. I want to accurately be able to play back and forth accurately in real-time
Hi Andrew, thanks for your tutor. On this tutor you slices the waves according an equal size. I was looking to slice the audio file according the big size of time measure. In other words, the system should slice the file at the spot where there is more size of time measure. Or the slice task should not equal, but according the bigger size of time measure. Thanks
Is data going out into the buddy? If yes try and patch it thru without the buddy object and see if it works. If no data is going into the buddy to begin with there’s a different issue. If you can share a screen shot of your patch that would be most helpful to diagnose the issue
Sorry I have a problem with object "mc.groove~ Sample @chans 2 @loop 1", it can't connect to any object (like Audio output). Dose any one knows which part I'm wrong with? Thanks.
It's so frustrating - I'm on max 8, and double-clicking just doesn't work. I don't know, but it would be helpful to mention what you're doing instead of stating the obvious - double click the buffer. Double click in order to do what? To open the preferences, the UI? It's just impossible to find another way to proceed, because the double clicking doesn't work, and it's just not clear what this double click does in order to find a workaround and do it in some other way
Hi, I want to set transient points of an audio in a video(mov). But "import" message of (buffer~) does not work. How I can load or extract audio channel(stream) from a video and load to the buffer~ object? Thanks in advance Tuğrul
That is unfortunately not super straightforward to my knowledge. Check out my tutorial video called “frames above a certain volume threshold” in it I go over a way to record audio from a video file into a buffer, you can record just transients too using the same idea from the video
Make sure your audio signal is going into the ezdac~ object, your audio driver is turned on and the output is set to your speakers. You can check the audio driver status and output in the audio status window under the options tab in Max’s main toolbar.
Hey, not sure why but it only selects very tiny slices. Why could that be? Here's a screenshot: zapidom.likes-throwing.rocks/5uem4A7LF.png (sorry for the organization issues)
Could likely be that your division object for the number of slices didn’t update when you put the 20 in there, the math looks like it’s still trying to make 64 slices. You’re gonna need another “ t b I” object there to make it do the calculation if you change the number of slices.
Thanks Andrew. This is just what I'm looking for right now. Nice and clearly explained. I'd have never got the 'buddy' part on my own..
very informative and well explained. MAX opens a whole universe of possibilities, it's great to learn about all these things :-)
Thanks a lot! Really great tutorial!! I'm adding this into my sampling instrument that I am doing for my university assignment :)
Thanks so much. Your tutorials are superb.

hi, is there a way to update the number of slices with a dial, without having to re input the bang?
I didnt understand a sht but its so cool and satisfying to watch. I really want to learn all of this stuff

Thank you for the video and the the instructions! I don't understand why you used mc.groove~ rather than groove~ version :)
These videos are great! thank you!

You may need to use mc.unpack
Nice channel, what if I wanted to take audio messages in real time into the sampler can
I apply the same patches or how would I go around with that ?
Hello! when I change the slice number clicks are heard. How can I prevent these clicks? thank you
having the same problem, drivin me crazy to solve this

Great video! Any thoughts on you might go about taking each slice into its own buffer for separate playback and FX processing/order scrambling?
What if I am unable to get any data from the patch cords from the buddy into the mc.groove? It's not splicing the audio at all

I learned realy valuable informations. thanks you a lot!
great tut! a question; what is the command you're using to resize the comment box to the amount of text? thanks
Command J
Hi Andrew, when I try to create a "read" or "replace" object, they show up as orange boxes without any outlets. Are they deprecated? Thank you!
Read and replace are both messages, you will need to use a message box not an object box.
what if i dont want it to loop and just play once when it recives a bang?
Just set it to @loop 0
@@AndrewRobinson26 thank you!!!
Thank you

Are you using the MC version of the audio output? (mc.ezdac~)
Super useful!

It's a good video to explain how max logic works, but this would be far easier just using mc.wave~ as the primary playback and some quantising.
