I really appreciate the demonstration of the clamshell fasteners. I was struggling with a pearl knotting technique using those nasty little endings and trying to tie a surgical knot that wouldn’t pull through the hole in the clamshell. It never occurred to me to use a small crimp bead inside the shell. A simple solution to my frustration.! Thank you so much. SW

Nancy nailed it! The Magical Crimp makes a "bead" but you need the crimper that comes with the special Crimps. They come in different colors. I love them!

Ps. I appreciate your videos. It can be overwhelming trying to learn this and honestly when someone shows a mistake or their own struggles it is comforting to see others as human and not little perfectionists. I would never rudely question someone's tutorial. If I didn't like their technique, attitude or whatever...I'd just change that UA-cam channel. Sorry, I read that condescending comment and it rubbed me the wrong way. Very rude. Anyhoos. Thank you again. Keep up the great work and attitude! I appreciate it.

You are doing it right. Those pliers flatten it and then folds it in half. Then you can use a crimp cover to make it look like a bead. I think the pliers that make the crimp round is called magical crimp pliers or something like that. I love these by the way😊

I LOVE this kind of chain, but I didn't even know what it was called, just been calling it beading chain for 3 years lol! I started making jewelry about 3 years ago as well, when a friend of mine gave me a bunch of jewelry making supplies because she didn't want to do it anymore and I had just been forced to quit a job I LOVED due to Retinitis Pigmentosa, a blinding eye disease, that deteriorates your peripheral vision and causes night blindness. I had just lost my driver's license and was extremely depressed at the time and it took me a while to even start trying to make anything, but once I did I was hooked😁! Anyway, funny thing is I have those exact same crimping pliers and thought the exact same thing as you and just tried them for the first time last week and actually broke 4 crimp beads in a row before I gave up on them! Lol! And then today, I watched your video, and learned from the other comments, I need the "magic crimpers" which I didn't know existed either...lol! I LOVED your video and will be watching all your other ones too! And I also love that you are a real, God fearing woman, who makes mistakes just like me and are not afraid to let others see all of that so, please don't ever change!! I also work with polymer clay and have watched A LOT of videos on that and jewelry making; that includes beading, stringing and anything else I can find, and it seems to me, that no matter who is doing the video, or how good of a job they have done, they all have one thing in common, they all have at least one dislike! I have often thought to myself, "I wonder if someone out there just sits around on UA-cam and hits the dislike button on every video they can find that day." Lol I am sure that is not the case but there are plenty of people that unfortunately just haven't learned the rule, "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything". I did watch the video you followed up this one with as well, and I do have to say, I LOVED what your comment back to them was! You couldn't have said it any better than that, in my opinion! Please keep doing what you are doing, Wendy, and I will keep watching, with all your other followers! May God bless you and keep you and your family! ❤ in Christ, Shannon from Ohio. P.S. And to all the grammar experts out there: bring it on...lol...because I know I did a horrible job on my punctuation and wording and probably spelling with this incredibly long comment! Lol. • @kimbain4368

Also, I'm about half-way through the video, I have found that a really good quality crimp tube makes all the difference when crimping. Beadalon and Softflex both make good thick-walled crimps that will change your crimping life. I used to buy my crimp beads and tubes at Hobby Lobby, whatever was on sale, and I could never understand why they kept breaking and failing on me. I thought I must be doing something wrong. Then I saw a video that suggested that the cheaper crimp tubes and beads were what was causing my struggle. I bought some Beadalon crimp tubes on amazon and my world changed. I will never go back. It has also been stated by many professional jewelry makers that the tubes are better than the beads. They make a tighter, flatter crimp, with no "air" in there. Cover them with crimp covers, if you don't want the raw look, or use the Beadsmith Magical Crimper to make the tube into a round form, with no need for a cover. (It only works with 2mm crimp tubes.)

I have been looking for this video! I knew there was one about finishing the coreander!!! While there are various levels of easy in jewelry making or any art, whether it's design or technique, we really have to find patience with the process and with ourselves. Now if I could follow those words of wisdom, I wouldn't get stuck with projects so often!!! LOL. I love your persistence. I'm learning that from you! I hate those crimping pliers also. I do like crimp tubes and have finally learned to do it with less pain over the years. By the way, you can put a crimp cover on the crimp (I'm sure you know this by now). It hides all the mistakes!!! Thank you for giving me another method besides beading wire. Appreciate you always.

With the crimp beads I was taught to just use regular pliers to crimp it. Then everybody's like but it's to wide and flat. An I'm like that's why you bend it in half again with regular pliers again. It wasn't until I was much older at that they came out with the new version plier for the crimp beads. So I have never liked the new pliers. I will use the back of the new pliers and finish it with regular pliers. That way I can get it smaller and flat. An I was also never taught to use any of the covers your caps or any of that. Then again I started working for a jewelry store/kiosk in the center of the mall where we made jewelry 20 +years ago. An I made a lot of hemp, leather and beaded necklaces. An we use the coated plastic wire back then. Honestly we use three different types of cord. We had a standard cored we used and there were no caps for covers that we ever used. Then again it was a different time and there weren't many people that were making jewelry or wire rings that we did it is crazy.
Please forgive any spelling or grammar mistakes I made. I have dyslexia. I know I'm not the greatest at spelling or grammar or punctuation for that matter. Thank you for understanding and I hope everybody has a wonderful day.

Great tutorial! I love your mustard seeds pendants! Such a great idea! I have a mustard seed pendant that was my grandma's. I love working with the coreana chain! Crimps can be such a pain lol! I have bought several crimping pliers over the years but I have 2 favorites. The 4 in 1 crimping pliers from Xuron is fantastic! You can use it with 3 different sizes of crimp beads/tubes and it is also a fine tip chain nose pliers. I use this one for most of my crimping and I like using the crimp tubes. The tubes are slightly bigger and easier to handle. The Magical crimping pliers is great too and it makes the crimps into a little ball like bead. But that one you have to have the specific crimps that go with the tool. I just use this one for the illusion/floating necklaces. Or if I don't have matching crimp covers and want the nice finished bead like crimp. They sell both of the pliers and crimps at Hobby Lobby and you can use a 40% off coupon. I'm trying to get caught up on videos lol. Hope you have a wonderful week! 💕

Hi Wendy, Those crimping pliers do not make a ball. You are right, I don’t leave that mess on my jewelry, I cover it with the crimp bead. When you use the crimp pliers you have to use a crimp bead to cover that mess. The pliers that makes a ball is the magical crimping pliers. You have to be careful when using the magical crimping pliers, but it finishes the crimp bead nice.

You are doing it right... They use crimp covers to pretty it up if you don't have the pliers that actually make them into a ball.. I have the same pliers as you. Great video!

first put the crimp in the second hole and then u have to use the first one while turning your crimp 90 degrees vertically. i havent used it much myself, i just use my pliers while turning it around... good luck

I think the reason why it my be challenge is because the pliers. I have seen others use the flat more pliers because it is wider and can fit the whole side of the cord end closer. I hope this helps.

So, my question is, where are you from? Btw, UA-cam suggested your channel to me and I'm glad they did. I am a new subscriber.

Thank you for the tutorial. I don’t use the crimp beads,I use the tiny crimp tubes and the crimp tool works well with them. Will the clam shells work well with the tubes? I like the clam shell with the two loops you used, but how do you know what size to buy? I will refer back to this tutorial if I ever get a chance to try the clam shells.

It's not the pliers and it's not your technique, it's the crimps themselves! Those pliers work great as do the Xuron 4-in-1 crimping pliers (I've got both), when you've got the right crimp tubes!
