  • For this episode of our First Ride video series we take a look at the all new 2020 Kawasaki KX250. This bike may look very similar to the 2019 model but once you dive in deeper you quickly realize that Kawasaki has made a lot of changes to increase performance and rider comfort. Check out what Daryl Ecklund and Josh Mosiman had to say about the new green machine as they rip around Castillo Ranch in Central California. We're excited to put the Kawasaki up against the other 250s in the 2020 class and find a clear winner. Stay tuned.

    Last year I was riding a KLX 140G, 2017, I watched this video the first day I got my bike and I told myself i'd never be able to get my hands on a bike this amazing and beautiful, this gonna be my next bike next summer 100%

    To be honest the amount of problems i have been seeing with all my friends electric start's ill take a kick start any day.

      I have a 2019 kx250f, 2-3 kicks cold and 1 kick when warm.

      E’start only matters if your racing Supercross.

      People who like electric start are those who have never been stranded in the woods or a deep pit with no good option to get out.

      So true, had a 350sxf with start issues. And I see a lot of guys at our local indoor winter track with failing batteries

    Love 4 stroke, not mixing gas and fuel injection are a blast. Just fuel and ride.

      Love the buzz of the 2 stroke. A whole different buzz. Just annoying checking and replacing things alot more often then you would on a 4 stroke

    The 4 strokes are driving costs up for new bikes, which drives up the cost of used bikes, which makes it harder and harder to have an entry level financially. The pros can have the 4 strokes, we should get 2 strokes smoking again or the sports going to go away for mountain biking or trials....less expensive versions. Bring the smokers back.

      hondaman331 that’s a great idea except for 2 stroke emissions are really bad and they are challenging to ride compared to the broad power band of the 4 strokes, klx140l, crf250f, and ttr230 are all great beginner bikes that are much cheaper than these race bikes and easier to ride than the 2 strokes.

      @@lisacollins6430 im not sure 2 strokes hurt the environment so much. Old 4 stroke engine oil gets drained and has to go somewhere, lots of times its burnt by places, others refined again, both options probably outweigh the 2 stroke combustion process with actual pollution. 2 stroke synthetics and good jetting make 2 strokes pretty efficient.

      hondaman331 good point but I still think it would be challenging for a beginner to work with the smaller power band and could discourage them.

      @@lisacollins6430 i learned on kx60s and 80s, its time kids learn on 60s and 80s again. The trail bikes arent going to make it for long with a new rider that is eager.

How many cars you see take off from a light or cruising down the road blazing a trail of smoke? Yet not one of them is a two stroke! Dont even get me started on a diesel! LOL!

      They Need to put KX250F. KX250 without F is 2 stroke that confused with many 2 stroke riders. Don’t like that lol

    Did they take the f off the end of the name because i thought the kx250 was the 2 stroke and kx250f was the 4 stroke?

      Michael ward you’re right until now Kawasaki is starting to drop the F on the 250 models as we see here & the 450 model as well. It is really dumb to to think they’re dropping the F off & not beeing a 2 stroke. I believe they made it clear they’re not bringing back 2 strokes in their end.

    They made typo in the graphics and bike lol, it’s a KX 250F. But I guess they think they can do that since they don’t make the KX 250 2 smoke anymore

      The MX Guru electric start has its pros and cons while kickstart has pros and cons. It’s all up to preference.

      Secondly, this shootout isnt aimed at pro supercross racers. It's for the average consumer. They literally say this.

      @@pennsylvaniafishermen5182 I'm not a racer and never will be, but... Electric start sucks when you get stuck in the woods. On the track it might be great, but a weak battery and no kicker option is a real bummer and why I won't consider Honda or Yamaha these days. a Few months ago my quad (with no kicker) developed a bad ignition control module and died in the woods. I let the quad cool and it would restart and go for a few hundred feet before dying again. By the time I got back to the truck the battery was near dead. Pure luck I was not stuck AGAIN in the woods. Because of my experiences in the past, having a kickstarter is more important than anything else.

    Thank goodness they did not have the budget for electric start because it sucks ass when you get stuck on the trail with a battery that wont start the bike.

      Every kawasaki I had was a jet on wheels compared to the 2 honda's I had and they were all 2 strokes.I have the 2020 kx250 now and it is very well balanced in all sections of the bike I do not regret the buy at all.

    I love kawasaki...but i truly think the best years are 06-08....still carburated and has all the right characteristics....i have seen nothing but issues with all the gimmicky electric shit

      09 was great. Still carbed on the 250, made good power, motor was so quiet and smooth

      @@krisalan2453 Hey, for real! You kids these days are riding twice the engine size to pretty much do the same thing! 125 vs 250? 250 vs. 450? You are probably way to young to actually realize the respect you need to give a two stroke. Any two stroke with the same, yes I said same size motor and with today's technology with engine, frame and suspension it would not even be a challenge once the rider got used to a two stroke power! Put it this way, you were the laughing stock if you rode a four stroke back in the day. Lot of improvements have been made but still you are racing twice the size motor!

      @@timprall5417 let's be honest though today's 4 strokes are amazing machines the technology of the bikes today with the different mappings etc electric start especially the modern 450s!!! Just absolutely blow the 250 2 strokes out of the water in an open straight race . Don't get me wrong the 2 stroke are a hell out of a good time but they just feel cheap and tacky after getting off today's modern 4 strokes. It's just my opinion.

      @@alexandrakingi8502 You very right about the technology since there has been none done for two strokes since the four strokes. What you all don't understand is this was a calculated take over by four stroke industry. A 250 2 stroke is the same displacement as a 250 four stroke. To make the industry change and make riders want to ride a four stroke they allowed four strokes to be twice as big. For example, race a 250 two stroke against a 250 four stroke and see what the results are. They had to give the four strokes a unfair advantage to achieve the switch over which I believe they were getting pressure on emissions issues on two strokes

    This bike is so slow I rode my friend’s 2020 and it’s gutless there is no torque from top to bottom it won’t pull up in a wheelie in any gear my 2007 yz 250 has more balls and my friends 2012 has way more balls then the 2020
