I’m fairly new to bourbons (little over a year) but I really enjoy four roses sb. But there are a lot of small batches that I enjoy. Wild Turkey 101 is one the higher proofs that I also enjoy. Enjoy your videos
This was a one and done back in the day but that being said don't get too hung up on tasting everything at the same sip level. 80 to 90 proofers can be knocked back without feeling like you are downing a shot just more like a double sip and slosh it around. You can really get a different feel for a low proof pour if you drink it differently.

I found the trade paperback editions of the first two Dark Tower books at a garage sale when I was 12. Between those and Eyes of the Dragon, I was hooked. I bought The Wastelands the day it came out, and the wait for Wizard and Glass seemed impossibly long at the time. I don't own many hard copies of books anymore, but still have the whole series on my shelf.
A generous and fair assessment of a decent low-proof staple. For a mixer, I have found a higher proof helps keep the bourbon and it's flavor from getting lost in the fixin's. While I'm no longer at entry level on the bourbon road, I would appreciate seeing a blind head-to-head of 4Roses & similar, done neat. For me, the quality of the finish and the "hug" would likely determine the winner.

We record in batches of a few videos at a time, so often times we have to be mindful of not overconsuming (which usually makes more than two pours in any video too much alcohol for us) but from time to time we do one-off recordings where we'll do more than two pours. We'll definitely keep the Four Roses lineup in mind for a future video!
Always keep 4R Small Batch in the cabinet, still my wife's favorite. Regarding mixing, I find it makes a great sour and/or Old fashioned.

It's a huge step up by preference only, I default back to small batch more often than I buy the single. It's just a good drinker no matter what, no surprises.
I've definitely had some single barrels that I thought were way worse then the small batch

I just picked this up it was so watery I was so confused because it clung to the walls of the bottle so well but might as well get regular 4 roses at the price
Love the Dark Tower book series.
The small batch select at 104 proof is head and shoulders above this. I won't use anything below 100 proof for mixing, it just gets lost. I also won't use anything above about $40 for mixed drinks but that's very much a personal preference.
It's a good intro to bourbon that I liked when I first had, and it looks nice & distinctive on the bar, but yeah--I moved past 4R SmB a few years ago because it is SO THIN compared to the 4R SiB or even Small Batch Select. I think I still have half a bottle of SmB in the back of the liquor cabinet... enough for a vertical tasting, probably.

This one is highly underrated, quite pepper-y and spicey but well balanced on the rocks. I would not drink this neat unless you are a huge fan of spicy bourbons.

Four Roses SB with sprite is a very refreshing drink on a hot day. This is a good mixer but on the high end. Also, I think I sputtered out on the gunslinger series before the last book.
When I started about 7 months ago it was one of my favorites! Now I prefer things like Baker’s 7, Bookers, ECBP, JDSBBP, etc
For a cheap bourbon it is solid. FourRoses and Bulleit are my go to for cocktails. FourRoses small batch select is better, but at that point I think there are better options for the price as it's about $60 a bottle locally. I go out of town for weeks and sometimes months for work and I know I can find it at just about any liquor store even if they have a shitty selection.
Love the Dark Tower series. My wife and I are reading through all the Stephen King books in order. It’ll take a while. 😂. I never get the small batch anymore but agree it’s a decent one early on the bourbon journey. Cheers!

I'm happy if I see it at a non-Whiskey bar in London because most of them only offer Woodford, which I don't love (love the DO).
This is the kind of bourbon where people give up jack or beam white and start drinking this and they suddenly think they are an expert and know what "good whiskey is" because its "super smooth". Similar to basil hayden. Ive never been much of a fan. Its not necessarily bad whiskey but theres so many better things for less money that i just never think about buying it..
I still think this is a great entry bourbon into high ryes. For 30ish, I think it's worth it. BUT, I think for a few bucks more, the shelfer single barrel is where its at. I always have the standard single barrel and small batch select around, but the ONLY reason I took a chance on those more expensive bottles is because I fell in love with the flavor profile of the small batch. 100% agree on paying up a little for the Single Barrel. That's our favorite product of theirs from a cost/value perspective.

I also bought a second one of the small batch and was underwhelmed by it also. First time I tried it was 6 years ago at the early part of my journey

I’m trying this one tonight. I was buying a number of $50-60 bourbons and then lately I’ve been going to the $20-30 bottles and in most cases I’m making old fashioneds
Wow, im shocked. I love Four Roses small batch and ive been drinking a long time. I mostly like the Buffalo Trace products, especially Eagle Rare. But i get a lot of floral and freshness on the nose with Four roses and it tastes just like it smells. I love it.
Floral and fresh is a good way of putting it. It’s not our thing but can absolutely see how that could be enjoyable. Cheers and thanks for watching!
This was on my list to try but, I've kind of come to the conclusion that I don't really want anything less than 100 proof. With the exception of Elijah Craig Small Batch at 94 proof because, I REALLY enjoy the flavor of that one.

This was actually the first bourbon I bought and did not like it at all. Made for a great mixer tho, so wasn’t too disappointed.
I've seen this being recommended as an alternative to Buffalo Trace. I got a bottle, but am not convinced so far.
It has its place in the market but we wouldn’t recommend it was a Buffalo Trace alternative personally.
Dark Tower is great reading
It's still 90 proof, and after you've had 2 or 3 higher proof, higher quality drinks... you don't need top shelf for the rest of the night

Same here. I've picked up the small batch select a couple of times and really liked it. I do dislike "thin" tasting bourbons, and I don't remember the select tasting thin to me.

I had tried one several years back, and I wasn't impressed with it. I also tried the Small Batch Select but, I pretty much had the same experience. Neither of them made any impression on me.
I really like the Four Roses Single Barrels. And, since they are usually available and only $15 more, I would probably never try the Small Batch…

What about the Small Batch Select? I have yet to try anything Four Roses but I plan on picking up a SiB or Small Batch Select eventually. Too much stuff to try!
In some markets the Small Batch Select is $55ish and a great value that's well worth trying. In our market it's closer to $70-75 so we don't often buy it. It has impressed us in some blinds and let us down in others. Often when sipping non-blind we find the first 1/4 of the bottle to be pretty underwhelming but it really opens up with some air over time.
The Single Barrel is killer, but this is on par with Even Williams.

Josh is correct. The Gunslinger series is fantastic! And so is Four Roses bourbon. First bourbon I ever tried and have loved it ever since.

Dark Tower series was very good. Four Roses Small Batch was not. In the past I have not been a fan of the small batch. My bottle is going to be used as a mixer going forward and when it's gone it will not be replaced.
Not a huge 4 roses fan. I am more of a bold/proofy/dark fruit/long finish kind of guy.
For a few dollars more I get the single barrel
For me Small Batch is $30, Single Barrel is $38. The single barrel is so much better and not badly priced. When you think of other $30 and under bottles, there are plenty I prefer. And spending the extra $8 is very easy for me. The Small Batch Select is also much much better, but at $56 there are way too many better choices. To me only the Single Barrel is worth it.

I've only had a 4R SiB, and it's not for me.
I use it as a mixer instead of the normal 4 Roses. Plus, it’s something for people not immersed into the bourbon culture.
