Alex Derlago Hmm that's interesting, he doesn't add the triplets to first pre-chorus at 1.59 on the original record version but he plays them on the playthrough video, along with a ton of other fills that just aren't audible on the record version.
I just love the bass line in this one, especially on the chorus. It's the most jazzy and prog bass on any metal chorus. U nailed it again on this piece. 😊
@@alexderlago I'm still having trouble recreating this tone... I don't want to be bothersome you've just nailed it so well. If you don't mind me asking do you use round wound or flat wound strings? And so do you feel like the action of the bass has a lot of importance to the sound? Thanks so much.
Its amazing! The sound quality and tone is out of this world, and you can get so many different tones out of it as well. It feels great to! Never thought there could be such a comfortable instrument like this. At this point i don't think ill ever want another bass, it does everything i want and so much more.
+Alex Derlago nice cover and love the bass..was just wondering are there any benefits to having a headless bass besides it looking awesome? I heard that it might take away some sustain is that true?
I'd test NS CR4 fretted one. Except its awesome shape, CR4 model which I tested had no dead spot. At the same time I tested some basses such as Ibanez prestige series, some Music man and some Fender USA models. They were great, but some of them had dead spots. CR4 was the most comfortable one, honestly, Fender and MMs were uncomfortable for me. And sustain was almost same compared to other brand's.
That Sean Malone play though video really cleared the veil on the bassline. Excellent job mate.
I actually posted this video before Sean's play through of Veil of Maya. His playing is excellent in that video though.

Yea that play through is very similar to the way he played it back in 1993/1994. Listen closely to some of the live recordings on UA-cam.

Sweet bass and tone!
RIP Sean Malone.
Love the tone and playing on this. Very Nice Work :) Is there any chance you have either the tab or sheet music for this?

What brand and model is your bass? Sounds gorgeous!

I've got the same bass, and I can't quite get the same sound as you're getting. How do you get that exact Malone sound?
Use the bridge pickup only while playing over the bridge pickup, and then boost the mids.
@@alexderlago Thanks! Do you use the piezo pickup too or just the bridge?
@@FangsAnalSatan just the bridge
@@alexderlago Awesome. Thanks for answering.

I recorded direct for this video. At the time I was using Ampeg SVT 3 Pro, but now I am currently using a Mark Bass mini.
