I've always wondered why the staff at lucasfilm and the die hard Disney Star Wars fans say legends is for the "manbaby" 40+ year olds but all of their ideas and plots of the sequels and other IPs are taking ideas from Legends? Rian johnson's explanation to any part of the over priced fan film TLJ, was to use material from legends.
I love the scene but found the music was a tiny bit...underwhelming ? This, however, is TERRIFIC -although it does let the cat out of the bag about the mysterious person's identity.
They didn´t use it because they wanted people on the egde of their seats to see if it was Luke until the very end. And, true enough, when he revealed himself they played his theme.

I actually thought the music they used was perfect, I wouldn’t want Luke’s theme the whole way through as to me it would be to fan servicey, I thought the score was amazing and the subtle Luke theme when he revealed himself was enough.
This was my exact thought while watching this. It's just too epic. No one would've been able to handle it. We already all nearly had heart attacks... this would've killed us all.

Confusing names, I know. Dark Trooper = Black-armored Imperial droid. Death Trooper = Black-armored Imperial soldier. The TIE pilots also wear black armor, as do some of the other staff.

Dark troopers were originally invented, as fa as I know, in the 1995 lucasarts computer game "dark forces", a first person shooter. In that game they looked far more intimidating than Disney's version, and they were armed with an assault cannon, which fired rapid plasma shots as well as missiles. But disney just gave them basic blasters. Fooey.
At the end of the day. This is honestly all any of us wanted throughout the entirety of the sequels. To hear that theme play and watch Luke Skywalker be the hero we know he is!
I was literally in tears. I was 22 years old in 1977 when I saw the first Star Wars movie. Ever since Return of the Jedi, I've been waiting for Luke to come back! Now after all these years (I'm 65 now) he's finally here!
For me, it's Mando looking at Grogu like, "You trust him? Then I trust him," and just calmly opening the doors, no hesitation, while everyone else in the room is like, "WTF are you doing?!??!"

I’ve been disappointed for so long, this one final episode washed away the disappointment and indifference. Who among us ever thought we would ever see Luke at the apogee of his Jedi powers. It was so worth the wait. Epic.
He has more power than they displayed here.. They discussed Luke basically waking through them and never even touching his lightsaber, but reasoned that fans would want to see him use it, and justified it with Luke not wanting to use his full power for fear of damaging the ship. So... We ain't seen nothing yet. :-) notice...he wasn't even breathing hard or sweating at the end. It was... quite literally..a cake walk for him. 5 years after RotJ, Luke is so powerful he could have crushed that entire ship.

CHILLS, I had chills and goose bumps, right at the elevator. Since I was a little kid in the '80s this is the Luke Skywalker I've always wanted to see after return of the Jedi. I always wanted a trilogy after Jedi new becoming a Jedi Master exploring the force and ancient Jedi temples and teachings, hunting down remnants of the empire, looking for sidious hidden caches of sith artifacts, etc etc Luke was benevolent but could turn on the badass when he needed to.
Too bad the new trilogy is a sjw abomination written by feminists in Disney who disregard things like father son relation in original trilogy as patriarchy to be dismantled

I'm with you, id love to see an official version with this song and the improvements to Luke's face. I understand at the time there were time constraints and secrecy concerns. Yes, the song would be a dead giveaway as to who it is and I understand them wanting to build the suspense but now that so many have seen it I think Lukes song adds more to the scene than the suspense of not knowing who it is. And yes even with the x-wing, the hand, the robe, the lightsaber color, the belt, I was still saying to myself no Fing way this is Luke on the Mandalorian and he better pull that damn hood down.

They also have the nerve to compare obi wan and yoda to him, failing to understand circumstance and context. Obi wan and yoda were hiding due to the rise of the empire and the fact that the empire would kill them as they were the few only jedi remaining. They didn't give up hope. They knew luke and leia was the hope the galaxy needed to defeat and topple the empire. ST defenders rely on nothing but baseless arguments, never watching or understanding circumstance, to defend a person who gave up because his student embodied failure and he couldn't face his failure.

I first watched this Jedi when I was born. 1977. As a little guy to adult, I have forgotten how enormous my adolescent dreams were. Because of this lonely episode 42 years later, I and those like me, can live our dreams. My youth reappeared when I experienced this Star Wars exert. This time, I will not let go.
Not really. The whole build up to the reveal when Luke removes his hood would have been lost, had the music been familiar. Not knowing straight away, despite visual clues, added to the suspense. Is it Luke or is it someone else?
@@JackRipper8881 Most real fans knew just from the x-wing, then came the green lightsaber of which is one of 2 left (Ezras) at this point I believe, and if you hadn’t known by then the black glove on the right hand should have clearly told you it was Luke not to mention he is likely the only Jedi left that could rip through all those droids so easily. If you didn’t know before then you probably aren’t a luke fan or a Star Wars fan.

Please don’t infer that Mark Hamill is a sellout. You can tell it broke his heart, filming those scenes. He tried so hard to give us the real Luke, but Rian Johnson would have none of it. Given the opportunity, I would ask him why he agreed to participate in TROS at all - I can understand why he accepted the role in VII, only to find out he was only in the last scene, with no lines, and VIII, hoping for something meaningful for Luke. But why agree to ck e back for IX, after that clusterf*ck?
I am fairly certain they had him sign a contract for all three movies up front and he had no real idea what he was getting into. Frankly they should just retcon all three of those dumpster fires and start over, I highly doubt the fan base would mind one bit.
I think they considered doing it themselves but preferred to keep a staged reveal. Hey, we may have a Luke Skywalker series coming up - plenty of opportunities!
Thumbs down? I didn't know Kathleen Kennedy had so many accounts. Someone is jealous that 7+ hours of sequel trilogy didn't have one Luke sequence like this.
I mean we all knew it was Luke, but there was still a small possibility it might have been someone else. Rumors were even going around saying it would be Cal Kestis. This music would have removed any doubt and would have made it pretty ridiculous that he "reveals" himself. It definitely needed better music than it had, but not this.
This is how it should have been done. By the time he's cleared out the warehouse area we already knew it was him, which spoiled the impact of the final hallway scene. If they had done this instead and had his entrance scene here, along with this perfect music scoring, it would have had far more emotional impact because the revelation would have been concurrent with the action & music itself. This is the version that hits hard in the feels - and it does it not by adding something new but rather by taking away what wasn't needed.
Aw, come on, man?! I watched all those reaction videos for the season finale and thought “Wow, I made it thru w/o bawling like a baby?”, even tho I saw SW in the 70’s. Then I watch this, while my throat starts getting all tight and my eyes start spilling over. It’s that music, John William’s music, that put me over. Well that and seeing Luke freaking Skywalker in his prime. While I love the Mando, I haven’t been horribly impressed with the music? It’s ok, but I have really missed JW’s thundering, martial score. This is a cool edit, as well. It almost makes the Mando & Nite Owls seem like supporting characters?! Nicely done.

This scene, with the re-edited music, best explains why this franchise continues to have the near obscene level of fan loyalty. John Williams' ability to bend music and emotion will get you in the feels. Every. Single. Time.

This isn’t technically Luke’s theme- it’s the Force theme. Luke’s theme has always been the main Star Wars theme.

sequel fans will never understand why this scene makes fans so happy why seeing luke be a jedi master giving hope to all those around him hits us in the feels
to so many (myself included) Luke Skywalker was their childhood hero, he gave hope when there was none and encouraged people to never give up
Rey could have done the same but the writers didn't understand star wars and what makes it beautiful
lol, people believe that the ST luke gives them hope. A cowardly drunk and hermit who abandons his friends and the galaxy at large in the time of need? They also have the nerve to compare obi wan and yoda to him, failing to understand circumstance and context. Obi wan and yoda were hiding due to the rise of the empire and the fact that the empire would kill them as they were the few only jedi remaining. They didn't give up hope. They knew luke and leia was the hope the galaxy needed to defeat and topple the empire. ST defenders rely on nothing but baseless arguments, never watching or understanding circumstance, to defend a person who gave up because his student embodied failure and he couldn't face his failure.

@@lapplandkun9273 a far as I'm concerned, the sequels never happened. They were an assassination of Luke and the entire franchise, by promoting ridiculous, childish views and destroying cherished characters either by giving them an ignominious end, or non archetypal powers and abilities.
Luke is a hero. A real one. This is a far better track, and I for one am ecstatic they are neutralizing the sequels.

Not really. The whole build up to the reveal when Luke removes his hood would have been lost, had the music been familiar.
Not knowing straight away, despite visual clues, added to the suspense. Is it Luke or is it someone else?
@@JackRipper8881 Most real fans knew just from the x-wing, then came the green lightsaber of which is one of 2 left (Ezras) at this point I believe, and if you hadn’t known by then the black glove on the right hand should have clearly told you it was Luke not to mention he is likely the only Jedi left that could rip through all those droids so easily. If you didn’t know before then you probably aren’t a luke fan or a Star Wars fan.

I've been waiting 44 years for this version of Luke Skywalker not the sellout of the Sequel Trilogy .
Please don’t infer that Mark Hamill is a sellout. You can tell it broke his heart, filming those scenes. He tried so hard to give us the real Luke, but Rian Johnson would have none of it.
Given the opportunity, I would ask him why he agreed to participate in TROS at all - I can understand why he accepted the role in VII, only to find out he was only in the last scene, with no lines, and VIII, hoping for something meaningful for Luke. But why agree to ck e back for IX, after that clusterf*ck?

I am fairly certain they had him sign a contract for all three movies up front and he had no real idea what he was getting into. Frankly they should just retcon all three of those dumpster fires and start over, I highly doubt the fan base would mind one bit.

As much as this scene gave me goosebumps, it didn't feel complete without the John Williams music.
Thumbs down? I didn't know Kathleen Kennedy had so many accounts. Someone is jealous that 7+ hours of sequel trilogy didn't have one Luke sequence like this.

I mean we all knew it was Luke, but there was still a small possibility it might have been someone else. Rumors were even going around saying it would be Cal Kestis. This music would have removed any doubt and would have made it pretty ridiculous that he "reveals" himself.
It definitely needed better music than it had, but not this.
This is how it should have been done. By the time he's cleared out the warehouse area we already knew it was him, which spoiled the impact of the final hallway scene. If they had done this instead and had his entrance scene here, along with this perfect music scoring, it would have had far more emotional impact because the revelation would have been concurrent with the action & music itself. This is the version that hits hard in the feels - and it does it not by adding something new but rather by taking away what wasn't needed.

Aw, come on, man?! I watched all those reaction videos for the season finale and thought “Wow, I made it thru w/o bawling like a baby?”, even tho I saw SW in the 70’s. Then I watch this, while my throat starts getting all tight and my eyes start spilling over. It’s that music, John William’s music, that put me over. Well that and seeing Luke freaking Skywalker in his prime. While I love the Mando, I haven’t been horribly impressed with the music? It’s ok, but I have really missed JW’s thundering, martial score. This is a cool edit, as well. It almost makes the Mando & Nite Owls seem like supporting characters?! Nicely done.

This scene, with the re-edited music, best explains why this franchise continues to have the near obscene level of fan loyalty. John Williams' ability to bend music and emotion will get you in the feels. Every. Single. Time.
