I wonder if anyone has the original Canadian version of these opening credits that carried the shorter title Nikita? Sadly my VHS tapes are long since gone.
If you watch the original and then the "reboot" or whatever they call it, the later version, it actually highlights why the first one was so good. The re-do is bad in almost every way, and it clarifies all the things they did right in the original series, from the music to the sets to the clothes to the dialogue and the characterizations. In particular the music is intrinsic to the show, and while it somewhat dates it, it does so in a good way since while it evokes a mid-90s feel, the tech sound to it ends up being an emphasis on the plot, kind of like the music in the Matrix lobby scene. In a vague way, certain movies are like that from the early sixties, where they play Sinatra and his boys in their tuxedos. They have been desperate for anything with the smallest built in audience, and the newer series failed to recapture even a glimmer of what make the first one great -- and different in a miserable way, rather than the way the series was different from the very first original French movie (rather than its remake). Which brings up that part -- one can somewhat do the same comparison with the two movies, the French namesake movie and "Point of No Return", the American remake with Bridget Fonda, but not quite so well. The remake movie was terrible and it seems like they figured it out somewhere along the way and just went ahead and figured they'd just make it a junkie action movie rather than a more tense plot-driven thriller with interesting character development and interplay.
Can't believe I watched this as a child and I still remembered the first opening.

Brings back memories
Oh, this takes me back. One of three shows that came on after Sunday Night Heat. The others being Silk Stalkings and Pacific Blue.
I never watched this show, but I always loved the theme.
