Ninja Gaiden involves an ultra superior ninja, capable of defying the laws of physics by climbing through walls, making dogs explode with his sword, and all while beating bad guys in record time.
After a whole decade, this collaborative run improves the previous movie (tasvideos.org/562M) by 75 frames.

Wondered how even a TAS could beat Arcus by such a margin. Then I saw the hilariously fast wall climbing and boss kills.

TAS or not a TAS, I always enjoy NES Ninja Gaiden gameplays a lot, since it is one of my favorite NES games ever. P.S.: nice way to k. o. all bosses even without the blue crossed swords item (I mean the third boss) xD

The level of precision displayed here is unmatched. Even the damage sustained is to intentionally propell Ryu forward. Absolutely Astounding!

I've been watching Arcus for years. It's so cool to see how many inhuman tricks the TAS can do... And to see it thirteen seconds slower than Arcus. Not taking anything away from the TAS programmer, but Arcus is amazing.

insane that scumtron's original 2006 tas took a decade and several other runners to improve just a bit over 1 second
Actually a bit over 2 seconds according to the time listed on both submissions, not sure where the "75 frames" fits into the times though. Still I agree crazy optimization on an already great movie. This one has some very creative and fun techniques too

This game was the bane of my childhood. Even years later on emulator I couldn't get past stage 5.

A friend had it on the NES. I got to the final boss, lost, and was sent back a few levels. Then I turned it off and proceeded to have a QBert moment, and never played it again.

I have been thinking about doing a TAS of this too, and in fact the other two for my channel too either way this game series is cruel as hell.
Wonder how he one shot some of those bosses. Like the second and third to last ones
he hits Down + attack in the air once every frame, so 60 a second. Its called a slash cancel... I can only mange 4 to 5 but a machine can do has much as the game will allow!
Correction, once every 30 frames because every 60 would be like holding down the buttons so it wouldnt cancel the slash!
@@3therspark63 down+b every other frame is the fastest the game can do and that is also the speed in the video so 30 slash in 1 sec (1 sec = 60 frame at 60 fps)
Now do this on original hardware and I'll actually be impressed

Arcus only goes about 35-40 secs slower than this.

If only we could ever see a run that doesn't use the L+R glitch
In a TAS-where input is done frame-by-frame-the end result wouldn't be significantly different since the same effect achieved with L+R/U+D+L would be replaced alternating A and B presses every frame with L or R. So, all that would really change is that Ninpo couldn't be preserved in some parts where Ryu has the Spin Slash.

The wall jumping and slash canceling in this is beyond what a human being can accomplish

I can beat Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2 at the same time (2 systems, 2 tv’s, one controller in each hand, eyes closed) in less than 6 minutes but every time I do no one is watching :(
Could have done it at least 1 second faster. Its Hard i know. I got past Malth when i was 4 or 5 years old. But quite didnt make the last boss. Props to you anyway.

Remember guys THIS IS NOT A SPEEDRUN. This is a tas. They are a completely different thing.
L+R/U+D are not cheating. They are not possible to do on a controller but they are valid inputs. And no clip... Just stop bro.
By valid I meant that if you could press left and right at the same time the game would allow it. Usually it is banned to press L+R at the same time in speedruns but you can do that on tas because it doesn't try to compete with normal runs.
@Jonny Croxville There is not a single legit TAS in existence that "turns off clipping", because that would be using cheats, and TAS runs use no cheats. When they clip through a wall, it means they are using a glitch which is allowed by the game mechanics.
@Jonny Croxville And technically, you can do L+R inputs if you are using an emulator or if your controller has had it's d-pad cracked. So yeah, it's not "impossible" in any way even in a no-cheats context.
