- This is an updated video to my original Stock OS installation Video. This time I made sure to disable windows sounds and tried my best to make it a little easier to see. This is a 2 Card Setup ideal for keeping your games and OS separate. Anbernic keeps releasing updates, so it makes sense to separate them and make it easier on yourself to update.

I couldn't for the life of me get the one sd card method to work. I ended up just putting the OS on a 16gb SD and the roms and bios on a separate 128gb card. Now that I think about it though it's probably better that way. Now I can use the SD card with roms and bios wherever I want.

Not sure if it was just me but I could not get my ROMs card to work with FAT32 on Windows 11 but exFAT works great. Awesome video thank you!
Maybe the SD card is greater than 32gb because for anything greater than 32gb it better to use exfat.
PSA: My boxart tutorial will not work for this firmware in case you were wondering. You can use scraped boxart that has not been run through imagemagick. Boxart is a little squished.

Hi, this latest update has battery display problems. Let me explain better, when you charge the battery normally up to 100% (while charging the display correctly shows you the image of the battery with 100% written on it), as soon as you unplug the console from the charger, even if the console is kept completely off ( not on standby) and you don't use it, even if only 5 minutes pass, as soon as you turn it on and check the percentage from retroarch, it shows you approximately 90%, even if in reality it is correctly 100%. From 90% onwards, if kept off, the console loses the normal percentage of approximately 1% / 2% every 24 hours (if kept off obviously, without using it). This problem is present in the December 8th, December 12th and December 21st updates, but not in the November 8th update. I contacted Anbernic and let them know everything, with all the relevant evidence and they replied that they checked with the technicians and they actually know the problem and that they will soon release a new update, even if they are not sure they will be able to solve the problem (which seems strange to me given that the first update, the one on November 8th with which the console was released, did not have the problem).

@@khanimania You're welcome 😊 At first I thought I had a faulty battery, but since I went from the November 8th update (I had cloned the SD card that came with the console, on a Sandisk) to the December 21st update and before that I didn't have this problem, so I decided to pay attention to it every time I charged the console. Then I tried the previous versions, those of December 12th and that of December 8th and happened in these too, I was practically sure it was the battery that was the problem. In the end I decided to put the SD card back with the November 8th update and there is no problem there. So I let Anbernic know right away. Among other things, when they told me that they had actually encountered the problem with the technicians and that they had started working on it to release the correction with the new update, I told them if they could also solve the problem of the partition to be placed at the end on the right to be able to expand and if they could also add OTA updates. We'll see what they do 🤷🏻♀️
I love how detailed this explanation is. So does that mean we should wait for an update before flashing a new sd card?
@@reddo5581 Thanks 😁 Nah, you can easily flash the SD with this update of December 21st, because there are several improvements especially compared to the first version. Furthermore, once you carry out this method with 2 SD cards, at the next update you only have to use SD number 1 to update quickly, without having to waste time putting back the ROM and saves, since these are found in SD number 2. I only have made the problem known, because maybe someone else notices these battery problems and thinks, like I did at the beginning, that they have a faulty battery if they don't do the various tests with all the firmware released 🤷🏻♀️
@@_marta30_44 ah, can i ask, how come we need 2 sd cards but the regular rg35xx is fine with one? I was planning to purchase instead of flash and when i look for sd cards its usually 2 which kind of makes it pricier, and for some reason theres only 2k+ games on a 128 cause apparently storage issues but i just don’t understand when the original rg35xx was fine with like 10k+ games i believe on 128gb+the system in one sd card

Where do the new save files show up on the second sd card, there is a roms, bios, and save folder, but the RS save folder is not repopulating and I can not find the save files after saving a game as a test. Thank you in advance for your response!!! GREAT VIDEO!!!
Hey Javi! First off - awesome videos, tyvm! I had a quick question. In your accessories video I saw you had recommended the Samsung Endurance microSD, but here it looks like you switched to the Pro Plus. Which did you end up liking better, could you tell a difference?
So both are great. After doing some further research. Samsung Pro Plus had 3x faster read and write speeds, but endurance are built to last forever. I wanted to try the Pro Plus to see if it really makes a difference in actual practice, and it really only does when you're first getting it set up. So both are great. You can't go wrong with Samsung but I think if theyre the same price maybe get Pro Plus just for faster transfer speeds.
Hey, ive tried this. But im trying to only do the 1 card method. After doing the first step, and i put the sd card in the device so it can download the files. I put it back into my computer and it didn't download. Do you have a walk-through for one card set up?

Same here. I’ve had to return my rg35xx plus because the memory card failed and i only have a mac.😅
I haven't tried this yet, but I'm doing research for when my rg35xx+ arrives in the mail, as I only have a Mac. You should be able to do all of the same things using alternative software: Disk Utility instead of Partition, Etcher instead of Rufus. If anyone is able to try this, let me know how it goes! Would def appreciate a vid from Javi on this.

Check RA Game it should be there. Make sure to add a N64 game or you will not be able to see it
Great video! Just a question, is it okay to use the 64gb sdcard that came with the system to put the roms on? I have already flashed the os on a 32gb branded sdcard and it works fine. Thanks
Yes, it's okay but not adviced. The cards the consoles are shipped with are basically electronic waste. I wouldn't recommend trusting them.

I just got an anbernic rg35xx and after using for a few days ive started to have an issue where the a and b buttons aren’t registering in the IO test and they are only mapped correctly while in retroarch. Would flashing a new SD card with the new updated OS fix this issue or is that a hardware related issue?
If this is on the stock sd card, it's possible that could be the cause. I would try to flash a new firmware and see if that helps, but keep your box that it came in just in case it is a hardware issue. Hope this helps!
Make sure to use brand name sd cards like Sandisk or Samsung
So when i got my RG35XX i accidentally formatted the SD card before getting any of the files off it including the games is there a way to get those back or am I going to have to redownload everything ?

Hi Javi - any ideas how to get the stylus working. Trying to load up Platinum and cant get past "click the pokeball". I press the power button to go into stylus mode, but it wont select. Appreciate the help

In a pickle here, downloaded RG35XXPLUS-EN-20240118 firmware update from the anbernic website. So confused about which one to download as there are three different folders, and no guidance about which one that users ought to download. Not just that but I flashed an image to my 32gb Sandisk Extreme Pro MicroSD and now I do not know what is going on. The SD Card is not being recognised by my laptop and when plugged in via the SD Reader a notification sound goes off every few seconds like as if my laptop is trying to read the SD Card but cannot and the SD Card will not show at all on this PC when plugged in via SD Card Reader.
Trust me, this is the gist of the Retro handheld community. Nobody will explain to you which file to download. They just point to you where to download and you will come across like 4 files and nobody really explains which one to download.
ive gone through this process 10 times in the last 4 days. no matter what i do the system will not even attempt to turn on after inserting the card with the img on it. what am i doing wrong? i also received the file directly from anbernic and tried that several times after formating it to a .img file. I'm glad i got a 128g card with it when i got the rg35xx plus or the system would be unusable til i figured this out. great video, very informative, thank you.
Exactly the same thing with me. Followed through the video step by step and nothing, put in the old SD card and boots up fine.
is it at all possible to run native pico 8 on this device with the stock os? russ's guide from 2021 on old emuelec os does not work any more. thanks

Stock OS or Stock firmware refers the default operating system or software that the device comes with out of the box. Custom Os Or Custom Firmware refers to community developed custom software that has been created to improve over the stock os experience. Onion OS is a good and mature custom firmware for the handhelds, Miyoo Mini & Miyoo Mini Plus.
Basically custom firmware is almost always better than what you get out of the box from the companies. Usually they are really lazy and do not spend enough time polishing the Stock experience and leave alot of user disappointed with the overall software experience. Hopefully, this clears things up for you. Thanks for your question. I know it can be confusing to be new to this hobby.

Anyways, I have discovered how it can be accessed. As the screen of the anbernic is small the load state isn’t shown on the screen however by clicking the save state “window” (the 1,2,3,4,5) it will prompt another window where the button for “load state” can be seen. Thanks!

What systems are you having this issue with? I just tested this on RA GBA. Saves work fine. GIve me a little more info so I can help you out.

Worked fine (bar not being able to read the original stock mem stick and having to find bios elsewhere) but now the analog sticks seem to be disabled for general use on the console and all the games. How do I fix that? I don't want to only be able to use the D-pad and the sticks worked fine before..

Is the sole reason of using the partition tool to make sure the cards are fat 32 or is there another reason. Also if we download the stock file can we add roms we have sourced to the 1st card make use of any free space? Like what is that deleting partition doing? Thanks

Hey Javi, could you try SNES ROMs on this firmware? Specifically, Super Mario World, as I had issues with it. But I think it affects SNES in general. For me, games weren't running smoothly after one of the recent updates. Unfortunately, I can't recall if I tried it with the latest firmware. It would be great if you could play a bit of Super Mario World and share your thoughts. Thanks in advance. Kind regards from Berlin, Germany.
I tested Yoshis Island, and it ran smooth. I was getting a constant 60Fps across different parts of the game. Didnt notice anything off. Looks good to me

When working on SD Card 2 Setup, is it ok if I delete some of the systems I don’t want like PlayStation, Sega, etc., or will it mess up the system if I don’t carry them over?

Not sure if anyone else had this problem, but my D drive wouldn’t read the SD card with the modded version of the update. Works fine with the normal update though.
Happens all the time. You have to resign that letter to another letter. D is almost always undetected

Where do I find .sav files? Been playing Mirage of Tales but wanna back up the save and can only find '.gba.0svs' files for the game.

Help- followed video but having issue with roms on sd2
System: Game Rooms / retroarch
Psp: roms not showing / roms not showing
Ps1: invalid or missing / invalid or missing
Dc: missing console / game not acceptable by main board
GBA: working / invalid file or missing
SNES: working / invalid or missing
(Sd2 was formatted fat32 > inserted into device > added roms to folders > copied stock bios)

I followed this tutorial. Where can I find the GBA save files for the vba-next core? The gpsp saves go straight into the rom folder but vba ones are nowhere to be found.
Im never used this core. It's possible it's in the linux partition, unfortunately. Btw we have customs firmware out now.

i need help, im using the single card method however when i finish card 1 setup section of the video the sd card does not appear on my home i can only see it on partition wizard but it doesnt have a name example (E:). I also dont have access to the sd card that came with the anbernic its not working, what can i do for the bios and roms section of the video?
Okay easy fix. All you have to do is use MiniTool Partition Wizard and go to your roms sd. On that card right click the roms partition and change the letter to anything but D. After applying, Windows will see it and youll be able to access you files.

I found I didn't need to copy Bios files over to second card as it seems to read them from first card, everything just worked with just roms on second card.
Oh, okay, if the one from Anbernic already has the bios files, you're good, and theres no need to copy them to the second card.

can I flash a 128gb sd with the no root firmware and use it also as Roms storage.. I wanted a single card boot becuase its a waste that the extra 100GB of storage will discarded if i'll use a 2nd sd card for games
Hey I have done the single SD card method. My problem is I can’t locate the NDS save files. I’ve searched within the ROMS drive and BOOT partitions still nothing. I’m pretty sure I’ll HAVE to lose my saves but if anyone could give me some advice I’d appreciate it. I’m on the same OS that was available with the release.
Do you see a folder for drastic? Or check inside you NDS roms folder the .sav might be there with your games

My update went great, but the box art is tiny now. Don't know why. I used the 16G one.
Boxart governor was changed on this firmware. So you'll need to use original images that have not been run through imagemagik.

I figured it out! I am using a Mac and I had to set it to "Master Boot Record" and "MS-DOS(FAT) to get the card go be recognized by the RG35XX Plus.
Sorry, I'm not a Mac user. But im happy you found your solution. There are multiple files systems supported for TF2 but I always recommend FAT32 because that's usually the most commonly accepted file system.

I flashed the img in the system sd card and there are bios and rom folders created within it. So the system can read rom files from both cards?
No only TF2 for roms

TF1 and TF2 works in RG35XX+ and i can boot
All you have to do is change the drive letter using MiniTool Partition Wizard

hey man I have a question, on this firmware if I turn on "auto save state on close, and auto load state on launch" both settings get turned off once I exit the game, tested with gba. it worked on the old firmware and no idea what to do about it
You have to make sure to save it. If you want to to be saved globally enter retroarch outside the game. Then set the setting and make sure to save current config in the main menu. This will save it across all systems.
@JaviPlayRetro yeah I tried that, I launched from the settings into retroarch, then changed it then saved configuration file, and launching a game the option always reverts itself. Other options save just not this one. It's pretty weird.
For stock os is 16gb sdcard enough?
Hi, I got a problem with minitool partition wizard, I cannot modify the partition of the SD card because it is shown as read-only, it happens with both SD cards. How can i solve it?
Okay, easy fix. On your adapter, make sure that the slider on the side is not set to read only. That should fix it.
@@JaviPlayRetro The problem was that by inserting the adapter into the pc, the slider passed on "lock" every time. I fixed by holding it with some tape. Thank you so much!!
Hi Javi, at 13:30 when you power on thr device to create the folders, theyre not being created for me. I have my 32gb sd in the top slot with the modded img file flashed to it, then an empty FAT32 64gb one in thr bottom slot. It boots up fine, but when i shut it down and check the 64gb card it still doesnt have any folders created
I am also having the same issue. Followed everything but its still not populating the files in the 2nd card.
@@3MERGENCYXHiBiT I tried all sorts to get it to work, but the folders would never populate. I ended up just installing the default software from Ambernics website and just running a 1 SD card setup. Maybe I'll look to find another method in the future
