The SP is already rechargeable though. I guess a USB C would be faster and you could probably get a bigger battery but it works fine as is. Wish I still had my old SP.
SP is desolder the old port and solder a USB-C in. They even make kits with a plastic surround so you don't have to modify the shell in anyway. Wouldn't call it overly hard imo

Grew up with the GBA Sp so never had that problem on car rides, or at night lol. Eventually I got a normal GBA from my aunt one Christmas, and I was surprised by how dim the screen was! The screen was dark to me even when I was inside my house with my room lights on! Never had a worm light though, it just came with one of those lights that flips to become a screen protector when you're not using it.
This is just amazing. I admire those who can mod old systems like this. I’m excited to see all the super modded 3DS’s someday. That’s my favorite system and you bet I’m gonna buy one of those
You'll probably never see that happening sadly... Those things are an absolute nightmare to disassemble/reassemble and they're already packed so tight that adding hardware is challenging... Sadly I don't think it'll ever happen 😔
@@GeekyGamer167plus a lot of mods done to GB and GBA consoles are to bring them more in line with modern day consoles, which the 3DS is already pretty modern in regards to (backlit screens, audio output, ability to download games and play from an SD card, etc). Upgraded screens, buttons, sound, and multi game cartridges aren’t as cool to add to a system that already has most of those things stock
Yeah they feel great. And there's enough of a click already. I hate newer controllers with switches that are way too clicky. There's a fine line between too soft and too clicky, but the GBA definitely hits the sweet spot. Almost like a compliment to the GameCube controller with its triggers

Having an modded OG GBA is my wet dream. I had one until it was stolen (along with all my games). Later I got an SP, which I LOVED, but I was always kind of disappointed by the comfort rating of the thing. Sure, it was easy to take with you anywhere and the backlit screen was an game changing upgrade, but I enjoyed holding and playing the original GBA so much more. I will have one of these one day. I WILL.

they might be not as bad when you put it in the actual case and have the giant plastic triggers on top of them. The buttons themselves tend to change the feel of the click a fair bit
I have yet to use anything by Hakko that I didn’t absolutely love! My whole bench was kitted out with soldering tools from them. Vacuum, hot air, micro iron, hot tweezers, everything!! Excellent choice!
I really like how the GBA's triggers are molded. Gamecube especially. Could you imagine Gamecube style L and R triggers with the finger tips of the GBA triggers? That would be the best bumper ever

We need to see how any game looks while playing it so we can see if it will or not damage eyes and if it is good. I used a Forza Xbox One before, sure it made a sound effect on startup, and the blue was cool. But yet, the slightest touch on power button shuts it off and the controller buttons were stuck for me in a very short time. In short, was it cooler? Yes. But was it better than normal Xbox One for me? Nope.

Well, once the machine is built, someone take the usb-c tech back to the early days of the GameBoy. That way we would already have 2024 tech in the early 2000's and we'll make an even bigger leap in technology in that timeline. Maybe by doing that we'll actually have flying cars and hoverboards/cycles etc. If only...

There is a reason to have a mushy buttons instead of clicking ones. Nintendo games are notorious about button sensitivity. For example how Mario jumps. If you had a clicking A button. Jumps wouldn’t work well.

Game boy advance is the one console I prefer non backlit since that’s how the games were designed to be seen, the games look perfect despite being very bright if played with a backlit screen
There's the bones of a game design essay in this video. The gameplay balance of keeping Horses useful as soon as the player gets access to Elytra is so interesting. The gameplay differences between horses / mules / donkeys was so interesting at the time but has been entirely removed with the addition of Shulkers. Elytra are arguably analogous to the Aeroplane with horses being closer to trains / cars. Horses need infrastructure, both in terms of somewhere to keep them and also depending on the terrain, you'll need to cut routes through. Never even mind the fact that amongst all of this, Minecarts have been reduced to only being useful in scant and specific use cases. I don't think there's a way to make the other transport options viable in the late game without making the elytra WAY WORSE.

Mine couldn't be opened at all even with the correct screwdriver thanks to the crappy overtightened screws. Used rubber, force, superglue, torque bits, and EVENTUALLY had to rely on a tiny drill to destroy the screws. Only for a screw to attach to the drill bit and screw its way deeper into the device, through the motherboard and out the front plastic shell.
USB C battery mod is horrible. I've taken mine out of all my modded GBAs. IT drains the battery even when turned off,. even if you unplug the battery from the board too
This is a great idea for getting your kids into games in a healthy way. Rather than just throwing them into the deep end of gaming, let them start how you did, but with the fun twist of it being very modern-looking gameboy. This was always my plan for kids, start them off with old games and as they get older introduce better games over time. When they are teens, start on some of the more modern stuff. I think this serves both to develop a healthy distinction between games and real life, as old games are far from looking real, and also helps them appreciate many different kinds of games. As a millennial gamer, i can appreciate all kinds of games, regardless of their graphical fidelity.
Rechargeable battery cool down with it putting a built in light on it to see the screen also okay but the mouse click buttons you should be ashamed of yourself. I always liked the og Gameboy advance due to it being easier to hold so definitely wouldn't mind the light up screen and the rechargeable battery everything else not needed.

You can soft mod the 3DS and install custom firmwire, then put GB,GBC,GBA,NDS,3DS roms on it. its great.

There is a reason to have a mushy buttons instead of clicking ones. Nintendo games are notorious about button sensitivity. For example how Mario jumps. If you had a clicking A button. Jumps wouldn’t work well.

I recommend replacing the fuse and Capacitors if you're going to be heavy on mods. Fuse should help avoid power issues.

Game boy advance is the one console I prefer non backlit since that’s how the games were designed to be seen, the games look perfect despite being very bright if played with a backlit screen

There's the bones of a game design essay in this video. The gameplay balance of keeping Horses useful as soon as the player gets access to Elytra is so interesting. The gameplay differences between horses / mules / donkeys was so interesting at the time but has been entirely removed with the addition of Shulkers. Elytra are arguably analogous to the Aeroplane with horses being closer to trains / cars. Horses need infrastructure, both in terms of somewhere to keep them and also depending on the terrain, you'll need to cut routes through.
Never even mind the fact that amongst all of this, Minecarts have been reduced to only being useful in scant and specific use cases.
I don't think there's a way to make the other transport options viable in the late game without making the elytra WAY WORSE.

Mine couldn't be opened at all even with the correct screwdriver thanks to the crappy overtightened screws.
Used rubber, force, superglue, torque bits, and EVENTUALLY had to rely on a tiny drill to destroy the screws. Only for a screw to attach to the drill bit and screw its way deeper into the device, through the motherboard and out the front plastic shell.
I was playing Earthbound and after I beat frankystein Mark 2 I died to 4 slugs after healing my HP to full.
USB C battery mod is horrible. I've taken mine out of all my modded GBAs. IT drains the battery even when turned off,. even if you unplug the battery from the board too
Backlit display, upgraded audio, led lights for buttons, upgraded triggers, and a usb c rechargeable battery. Yeah you covered the bases alright 😮👍

This is a great idea for getting your kids into games in a healthy way. Rather than just throwing them into the deep end of gaming, let them start how you did, but with the fun twist of it being very modern-looking gameboy. This was always my plan for kids, start them off with old games and as they get older introduce better games over time. When they are teens, start on some of the more modern stuff.
I think this serves both to develop a healthy distinction between games and real life, as old games are far from looking real, and also helps them appreciate many different kinds of games. As a millennial gamer, i can appreciate all kinds of games, regardless of their graphical fidelity.

Rechargeable battery cool down with it putting a built in light on it to see the screen also okay but the mouse click buttons you should be ashamed of yourself. I always liked the og Gameboy advance due to it being easier to hold so definitely wouldn't mind the light up screen and the rechargeable battery everything else not needed.
