  • This is a demo and review of the Bugera V22 guitar amplifier. It does a fantastic job at getting nice blues and rock tones. I’ve used this amp for about a year now and it was my first tube amp. For those of you looking at getting into tube amps, this may very well be your choice. It sounds great and has some cool features that are difficult to find in amps in this price range. Aesthetically, this amp looks very nice too. It has a silver grill with gold piping and a cream material that matches the "chicken head" knobs. The rest is black tolex.
    The amp has built in reverb, an FX loop, a mid boost, a normal and bright input, and pentode/triode options. The pentode has plenty of headroom for most basement players at 22W. The triode option brings it down to 15W to push the amp a little harder at lower volumes. This is a relatively quiet amp when compared to others that I’ve tried in the same power rating, but that being said I almost never have the master volume above 4 or 5. It takes pedals very well and has been reliable for me. The only time I’ve had an issue was some slight buzzing after I cranked it to ten one day. One of the tubes vibrated out a little, so I just had to push it back in and the buzz went away. The EQ section seems to work well with every guitar you can put through it which makes it another good option as a starter tube amp. Let me know what you think down in the comments!

      I second that. We are all continuously in the process of learning. Even Steve Vai is still learning things. That's why he is a guitar god. He never stops learning.

    The best part of this is that you're having a good time playing. That's why people play the guitar. Ignore the internet trolls. Somebody who takes time out of their day to anonymously say someone "can't play" is 1) being a dick, and 2) wasting their life. Don't like it? Watch something else then. Everybody who ever learned the guitar went through the same process...first, you can't play at all...then you play a little...then you get better...and so on. I've been playing for 20 years, and I'm average at best. But I enjoy playing the guitar, even if I'm not Clapton.

    Thanks for taking the time to share your opinions. First thing I thought was, ' great, here's a guy like me, who is just finding his way on guitar'.The reason i searched was to find out if i like this amp. Without people taking the time to show us their kit forming opinions on which amps we want to trek out to stores to try out would be just soooo much more difficult. Cheers.

    18 months ago I decided to take up guitar at age 60.I bought a slightly used Bugera V22 and I think its great for the price.I recommend checking out online sights where military folks sell there things. When they need cash they sell there stash. My Bugera was 5 months old when a soldier put it on Offerup for $210.Thanks for the pleasant review and never give up on your passions.

    I really appreciate you putting it out there...and, don’t worry about the “guitar snobs”. They obviously forgot about their own guitar journey. By the way, you’ve got a good sense of timing so, practice smart and remember: it’s supposed to be fun!
    I just bought this amp from Sweetwater (hasn’t been delivered yet) but, I’ve been hearing some good things about them so, I grabbed the 22 watt version.
    Again, thanks for for posting a great walkthrough on this amp.

    I agree about your playing and don’t listen to the negative comments, however, to get a full appreciation of this tube amp it does need someone who’s mastered the right hand picking techniques that creates light and shade. Michael Caswell (RIP) had a wonderful touch and could get a tube amp to talk. I couldn’t get that from this demo and for someone like myself that plays in this way I’d need to see how this cleans up when playing on the overdrive channel. Well done for making the effort but please understand why some folk might want to see something different but can’t articulate that in a positive way.

    Pentode/Triode switch is for 22 watts-- Pentode.. and 40% less for Triode. Which, is more than enough for most small-medium rooms. Feels better, too. If you enjoy "spongy"..

    good review, guitar is a bit out of tune....AND I LIKE IT!!!! And your playing is just fine for the length of time you have been playing. I have had my Bugera V22 for about 3 years now and I love everything about it, from the 'chimes' ringing to the 'boost' button. I always keep mine on the law watts. I did take the metal housing out of mine that covered the fuses because at even a moderate volume level IT BUZZED REALLY BAD! Oh, that last screw was really difficult to remove. thanks again for the nice review

    With the right pedals, that amp would do fine for metal. A lot of that, too, also has to with the speaker; if the speaker were changed, that would help with different genres.

    • @shredbox8491
      @shredbox8491  7 років тому +1

      +kc8ntp Agreed. I actually thought it did pretty well with a digitech metal master in front of it. A celestion g12t-75 definitely couldn't hurt either. The open back might be a deal killer for some metal purists though.

      Into an external 4x12 that were made more for metal, that 22w amp would do a good job, too. I wouldn't hesitate to gig a small venue with a 22w tube amp.

    Brandon, I like your Idea for recording your guitar journey. It popped up on suggested videos and then I saw you had the same amp. So anyway, a tip for you, when using a single coil guitar like your strat plug into the normal input, and for humbuckers like your LP use the bright input to plug into. Good luck on your guitar quest man.

      Thanks! The only thing I didn't really like about this amp was the distortion. Not that it was bad, just not enough for my style of playing. It has enough headroom to throw a distortion in front and keep the character of the pedal though, so not a huge deal. I'd spring for the 55w version if you plan on using it in a band situation to keep up with the drums. Good luck choosing!

    Pentode and triode modes do not cut overall wattage, its simple triode is 3 plates in the tube and pentode is 5. tri gives you a Fender type tone and Pent more a british sound. wattage is always 22

    • @shredbox8491
      @shredbox8491  7 років тому +5

      +bluemtjim The Bugera manual describes the pentode as full power and the triode as half power. The output is definitely a significant amount quieter in the triode mode. How do they achieve that affect without lowering the power output?

      Sorry 7mths late mate!
      I've just got a V22 in the last month & yep no worries at bedroom/loungeroom volumes.
      If you crank the gain it can get a bit fizzy in the top end (better set of valves/tubes evidently sorts it a bit).
      The cleans are great & it take pedals well via the loop or front end...l read a mob of forums & most are happy...
      But it'll definitely play at levels that won't piss the neighbours off (unless you wanna)... for the price it's not a bad amp.
      Gd luck!✌️

    • @shredbox8491
      @shredbox8491  7 років тому

      kevin brooks Here's a couple of options.
      1. check out this article. mod 5 describes changing a few caps to adjust the bass response www.premierguitar.com/articles/8_Guitar-Amp_Mods_for_Newbies?page=2
      2. You could try adding an eq pedal to the FX loop maybe.
      3. Consider swapping out the speaker for something with better bass response.
      4. Physically move the amp closer to the floor. you'll percieve more bass with the amp on the floor than on a stand.
      Anybody else have any ideas?

    • @shredbox8491
      @shredbox8491  7 років тому +1

      I found that the bright input didn't add top end so much as it just reduced the bottom end. The manual actually does suggest using the bright input for humbuckers. To me, it sounds much better going through the normal input and using the mid boost rather than reducing the bass end with the bright input.
      Being a "demo" video, I absolutely should have at least plugged into the bright switch at some point though. Thanks for the comment and I'll be sure to be more thorough in future reviews!

    What's the difference between plugging a pedal into the front of the amp or the back?

    • @shredbox8491
      @shredbox8491  7 років тому +1

      Great question! It's probably worthy of it's own FAQ video to be quite honest, but here's the gist (and honestly you probably know most of this already, just want to be thorough for you). When I say "the back" I mean the FX loop. Effects like delay, reverb, phasers, or other mods sound better to a lot of people in the FX loop. There are two tube sections. The preamp and the power amp. The FX loop lets you put pedals between these two sections. You don't get any sonic coloration from the preamp on those pedals, but you do get the volume boost from the power amp. Mods will sound much cleaner in an FX loop if you use the distortion channel on your amp. If you only use the clean channel, it may not make much of a difference.

    • @MrMongo321
      @MrMongo321 7 років тому

      Makes sense, thnx!

    • @melexdy
      @melexdy 7 років тому

      Modulation pedals work better after your Overdrive /distortion.
      Ex: delay must be placed in the loop if you use the amps OD channel or if you use an OD pedal you can place the delay after it and not use the loop at all.

      MrMongo321 the pedals don't go thru a preamp when you go thru the back. this is good for things like time based and reverbs because they become over saturated and not clean sounding.

    How does this sound with an acoustic???

    • @shredbox8491
      @shredbox8491  7 років тому

      Luc Verhoeven Good question! I can't say I ever tried it with an acoustic, but in general electric and acoustic amps are pretty different. Acoustics are designed to be more clear and transparent than electric amps most of the time.

    I can't......... Please become a half-way decent player before you try a review. Also, don't waste money on mics and such at this point. Spend the money on guitar lessons..... That is not an insult. We could all use them.

    He does play guitar like my drummer. And Im proud of my drummer for wanting to start learning. And it takes balls to not have skills and make a video. Yikes get that guitar set buddy. Out of tune and intonation. LMAO.

    Dude, with all due respect you need to learn to play, or at least tune the guitar before you do a demo. What have you been doing for the year youve had it?

    • @shredbox8491
      @shredbox8491  7 років тому +5

      +79lpcustom I agree and I'm working on it. A year ago I new absolutely NOTHING about video editing, micing cabs, guitar maintenance, post editing, drumming, playing bass, guitar effects, or maintaining a UA-cam channel. I've been working on that... along with my actual job and the rest of my life. If you want to see more of what I've been doing, go watch some of the other 80 videos I have up. Especially the Odyssey videos. They are my video journal of teaching myself to play or you can definitely see progress through my cover songs.

      79lpcustom with all due respect dude who plays out of tune, badly in a shit coverband full of noplaying greyhairs (and i have grey hair son)... that was you on lead in your cover band? Your timings off, you sound out of tune, you LITERALLY got the fucking song wrong (send her my love). Ive seen players 2 months in with better vibrato. Just a tip son.. before you start attacking someones playing learn to play yourself christ your band sucks. And its a COVER band.. jesus.
      PS.. we all came here for the bugera v22 review and this review is fantastic. Now boy.. go back to your moms basement (or get a job and move out eh?) and fucking practice. I could teach my 7 year old niece to play better than that in a month.

      Shred fuck this guy. go to his channel. he's a newbie who apparently thinks because he spent a laughable amount on an old lp he can gearsnob and talk shit. He's a shit player who thinks if he attacks other players he'll suck less
