Bro, you are great.
Thank you ❤️❤️
Only Russian guys.
Cheers for this mate! Rereading The Brothers Karamazov and about to read The Insulted and Injured for the first time soon!
To start reading Dostoyevsky I recommend the White Nights. It is short but full of emotions.
I have already read it in french. It was worth reading I loved it.
Thank you
Crime and Punishment really sucked me in. Crazy to think that he wrote the first chapter the night before it was supposed to be turned into the publisher... I liked Notes from Underground as well, and that edition has White Nights. I'll def check it out.
@@basedtrees I am glad to see how people around the world are reading one of our best writers
@@Renard88 dostoyevsky, gogol, tarkovsky, rachmaniov.... probably many more that i am not familiar with, but russia has produced some exceptional men.
This playlist is exactly what no one expected, but what absolutely everyone needed
To be fair, it probably was what nobody expected 😛
I agree - just came here from the inspiring "playlist for when you're in a Russian novel", which also moves in the world of Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Rachmaninov and Chekhov: ww.ua-cam.com/video/2KBpiA8VOUw/v-deo.html
I've been reading Dostoevsky since I was in my teens. My brother, who is also a fan, brought a library copy of "The Brothers Karamazov" to a week-long military field exercise where they had to spend long hours encamped in their tent on some grimy and rainy heath in late October (this was in southern Sweden). An officer in middle life came by, noticed what one of his men was reading and commended him for his excellent literary taste: " /last name/!! Some culture in this muddy sh****le!"😜
U got it right hehe
@@louise_rose your brother is a real man I see, reading a book that is like 10cm thick atleast and hard to read WHILE training hard in military, that is some crazy discipline
@@sk-xg7re Oh, thank you! Yes, I think he enjoyed it too. Our mother sometimes recalled how she had taken a week off during her studies in literature and philology, "lying on the couch at my student room and reading War and Peace - i loved it!" - it was a set text for the course. :)
That was several years before I was born, but one of my earliest memories of a Russian film is seeing Bondarchuk's classic version of Tolstoy when it was screened on tv as a miniseries, I was around seven years old, we were all impressed and I realized that this was actually based on real events, real history, even real people (some of the main characters being based on Tolstoy's ancestors and his parents' friends).
i’m from russia and it’s so nice to see that people all over world are so into reading books by Fedor Dostoevsky!
A good playlist to listen to while reading crime and punishment? Great!! Thanks a lot I love all of your playlists.
I just finished it 😣 If only this came out a month ago!
@@zconrad4123 same here
@@zconrad4123 Thank God I only just started reading it.
deffinetly on page 187 as of today, I love it so much
I finished reading The Idiot last year. Completely heartbreaking book, definitely one of his saddest works. He was an expert at depicting people who were crushed by circumstances beyond their control, and all the free will in the world won't change the fact that everything can be taken from you in an instant. And the desire to follow any strict rules of morality that you make for yourself, no matter how good intentioned, could very well lead to your downfall and that of those around you. He builds harsh worlds but they're full of real people with depth and emotion. I love the books I've read and intend on tackling The Brothers Karamazov this year.
@Helena I will definitely check it out, thanks for the recommendation! I saw Kurosawas adaptation of it years ago. Unfortunately it was cut down dramatically by the studio but there are a few good sequences in it, the ending especially. Might be worth a look if you go into it with low expectations.
@@DomWrath You're welcome! I saw the Kurosawa adaptation last year and I really liked it! It was different but still well done. There is also a French movie adaptation and a Russian one that was left unfinished. Well, I wish you a pleasant day!
He actually comes to a much more hopeful conclusion in the Brothers Karamazov :) whereas in his earlier works (The Idiot, Notes from the Underground) he is a lot more pessimistic.
@Brian Lam that's what I've heard. To be honest the ending and overall redemption arc of Raskolnikov from Crime and Punishment is one of hope as well, something I was really pleased with since I didn't see it coming based on its reputation. People go on about how dark that book is but I rarely hear about it being an effective assertation that even if you fall to your lowest as long as you maintain some sliver of your conscience you can repent your crimes. Of course The Idiot subverts that to a degree and is more cynical for it. I love them both and am looking forward to how Karmazov concludes his struggle with humanity!
Crime and Punishment also is S tier
What a coincedence! I live in st petersburg, and today I was on a walk with my class exploring places that appeared in dostoyevskiy's books. What a great evening to listen to this playlist
You have great taste, my friend! Can you watch my videos?
I am making similar content, and would like to know what can be improved? I would be very grateful!
I wish to have interactive literature lessons as well, hope you enjoyed it. (I live in Russia too, but in Primorsky Krai)
I wish to one day visit Russia and see in-person the locations mentioned in his stories. 😊
Very jealous!! I hope you had fun! I wish my city was pretty like yours.
“I am a fool with a heart but no brains, and you are a fool with brains but no heart; and we’re both unhappy, and we both suffer.”
― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Idiot
Muishkin was a fool with a heart with no brains. For he could’ve left the very moment he found out Nastassya was murdered, yet he didn’t. And Rogojin was a fool with brains, but no heart. For he never could understand the idea of letting go “his love” for someone who didn’t love him back. And they both ended up unhappy and suffered most likely until their dying days.
I JUST GOT AN SPOILER RN OMG

I have been reading The Brothers Karamzov for about 10 months now. I am about 500/800 pages in. Incredible book. Nearly there! Awesome playlist, thank you.

I swear in 27 years of using the internet, this is the best playlist I have ever listened. Not a single time did I want to fast forward. This is pure art. You are a genius.
I'm a simple man I see Dostoevsky I click.
Dostoevsky is known for lot of his philosophy,
His journey is not like others,
He faced death to life, experience lots of trouble,
And wrote a lot of books,
All of them are masterpiece ❤️

I came across an old copy of „Crime and Punishment“ in an antiquarian store (and bought it, obviously) so this is a perfectly timed playlist
You have a wonderful taste for music!

To everyone who is doing homework, leave the chat, breathe slowly, take a sip of water, and focus
To everyone who is trying to sleep, leave the chat, grab a blanket, and get the rest you deserve.
To everyone who is feeling sad, grab a snack, get some water, get a blanket, and write down your thoughts. When you're done, lay down, and get some rest, no matter the time.
To everyone who is creating, you got this. Your art is amazing. Remain in your flow and get stuff done!

@@quantumgirl4269 Merci bien 👌
Finally Dostoyevsky now I can read his novels calmly and comfortably 💟❣️💞😴
I had a neighbour who is a pianist, they would always play their piano, they used to play a certain melody for few days on repeat then move on to another melody, during the time when I was reading 'The Adolescent', they were playing a certain melody, every time I hear they playing that melody, my mind would simply start to imagine a scenario out of 'The Adolescent' and I would rush to read my book, after over 4 years, I still remember the melody they play
He's really my favourite writer, and that makes me wonder every character that he has ever created are deep, thoughtful and lovely, just makes me believe in passion, to suffer, to live eventually

I've tried many others and they didn't work at all. One of them was more a Jane Austen list than a Dostoyevsky one. I just couldn't read the book.
This one is getting me through the third book and I'm not even bored. Not to mention I was looking for that piece of music since ever and thanks to this list I found out it was a Tchaikovsky piece.
