    After riding almost all electric unicycles that have been coming to the market in the last 4 years I discover that not having wobbles in an Electric unicycle is much more than just doing some lessons or having a Kingsong or an Inmotion in opposite to having a veteran Sherman, is not just about skills but also about comfort and about the right gear. So in this video, I will talk about my insoles and also my Forma Terra Evo terra that I've been using for the last year and why I believe they are game changers like my print insoles. With the right gear, you will have more agility, be more balanced and above all fewer wobbles on your electric unicycle.

    MADpack this was a good video on EUC footwear. The fact that you did a video on why you chose to wear adventure boots for your EUC surprised the hell out of me.
    I have been riding in heavy protective boots every since I started riding. Whether it was my engineer biker boots or my REdWings Fire Chief boots, they were both good. I have now switched over to REVzillas Sedici Vertice boots. In the beginning I thought I would be sending them back. But I worked with them for days. Finally got used to them. One important trick to making adventure boots work for you is to tighten up on the buckles. That made a huge difference. Also note that to be ready to change your pad set up to fit the new boots.

    I 💯 agree about the boot for safety, I was using my hunting boots for a while for the support and locked-in feel; but I have gone back to my running shoes for the flexibility and freedom of movement. I get the locked-in feel now from my tight pads which I can move my leg out of for agile maneuvers. End of the day it’s all about what works best for you (although boots will work best for everyone getting their ankles twisted).

    Also motorcycle or good mountainbike shoes are designed to stay on your feet in the case of a crash, there are so much videos of guys crashing their motorcycle and their normal shoes just fly away.
    But I prefer good mountainbike shoes over motorcycle boots for shorter rides, they are much better to walk around into but still give your foot the needed stability and grip.
    Stay safe and ride on.

    Great video and I totally agree. On a slightly different note, I did a 35 mile (56 KM) off road ride on my V12 and wore a mid top (just above my ankles) boot. About 20 miles (32 KM) into the ride, the inside of my lower legs were getting rubbed raw from Clark Pads. I have some great Motorcycle Boots (Alpine Stars Toucan) and I wish I had worn to them because they would have totally protected the inside of my legs. After that, they are what I wear for long rides and any off-road rides. Short rides to be the store or to work, I still wear my Under Armor mid boots.

    It's v rare that I comment twice but I felt the need. I just tried these tips this evening and I'm not sure why they work but I would say that 90% of my wobbles are now gone. If i could give this video 2 thumbs up, I would. I don't have the Forma Terra Evo Low boots but I have the £30 amazon equivalent that cover my ankles and are stiffer than my trainers. Nortiv 8 desert. I had to move my grizzlas higher to accommodate the larger shoe and as a snowboarder who rides a duck stance, it feels so unnatural to ride with my heels kicked out that it's going to take some getting used to it but I definitely will. It doesn't feel uncomfortable, just strange. I want to get the insoles now and see how much difference that makes! Thanks Marco.

    I have been riding in Forma terra evo boots for a few months now and they are outstanding for EUC.
    They somehow absorb a lot of impact that would normally end up in my knees with other boots/shoes. They also allow more precise control for turning /braking /accelerating than other footwear because the force can be applied through the whole lower leg.
    I think it's hard to explain to people who haven't tried them just how much these boots 'level up' your riding.

    I have TCX street air shoes and they are the perfect shoe. They are right in the middle, enough flexibility to feel comfortable offer great protection, and a flat sole that offers great response to feel the EUC. My only gripe is I had to replace the laces with elastic laces to make it easier to get on and off.

    My recommendation: Well fitted pads, and high cut Shoes/Boots. the boot part makes a immense difference. When I wear the low cut ones I sometimes wobble but in the other ones, pretty much full control. Especially important on V12 as it is very unstable if not setup right. Split ride mode for breaking is extremely recommended.

    Great video and thoughts! A little contradictory though bc you say the advantages of heel out and flexibility of front foot in but then go right to saying the flexibility of the shoe is bad and stiffer boot better.
    So maybe heel in + boot for extra stiffness? Or maybe if you don't have boots, heel in to counter the flexibility of shoes? Think you were trying to find a balance of stiffness and control right?

    • @MADpack
      @MADpack  Рік тому +1

      No is the opposite if your heel is more out it will make the structure of your foot harder plus a harder boot you will have more control over the wheel does it make sense?!

    Thanks for the tips. On my v12, i get wobbles when I try to brake too fast. This makes me unsafe and reluctant to do emergency braking. If I sit my ass closer to the wheel whilst breaking, this helps. Also, I have been angling my toes outwards, not heels outwards. Look forward to trying both these tips and seeing if it helps.

    • @darkhorseeuc
      @darkhorseeuc Рік тому +2

      Yes, I had that too until I started “pumping” when I hard break on the V12. Basically, alternating pressure from foot to foot making the EUC sort of rapid carve (while my body isn’t leaning into a carve). That make sense? It completely killed my emergency breaking wobbles.

    Dirt bike and motorcycle background; wearing a solid moto boot really improves the locked in feel, you have effortless control, inputs are more accurate feeling, less foot fatigue, better pedal traction, and crash protection. Them's the facts. Riders need to be wearing moto gear. While my motocross boots would be too stiff, a low cut adventure riding boot, or trials riding boot would be perfect. Curious how Toucans and Sidi adv boots would feel.

    It would be interesting to see the statistical difference between using your forma boots without power pads and softer shoes with power pads. They seem to provide similar mechanical advantage for accel/decel, and i would bet most of the leverage gained by boots could be matched or surpassed with proper power pads. Obviously the boots provide more ankle protection, but at the cost of road feel and sensitivity.
    Your braking technique also doesn't seem to represent what is actually happening in terms of kinematics, but if i had to guess, the major realized benefit is not any decreased stress on the motor, but rather a frame of mind where you consciously aren't leaning into your braking.

    • @MADpack
      @MADpack  Рік тому

      Thank you for your comment… I developed this breaking technic 4 years ago when having a cutoff was more often than now and I ride hard (around 42-44mph) the disadvantage that I find on the way I break is replacing the tire quicker since one of the sides gets wear off quicker than the other side. In terms of stress on the inner shell up to today never had an issue with it… also related to control I have more control than before allowing me to quicker shifting directions with harder bootstraps

    Interesting theory on wobbles though I have learned to control my wobbles in high top vans. Being a biker I have absolutely no doubt those boots are going to be the best option to prevent foot and ankle injuries. However, like he mentioned, motorcycle boots are rigid. Foot flexibility on a device that most likely will require you to be physically agile?........Forget about it. Flexibility goes out the window. If your riding style suits it go for it. My riding style does not. There is no way I could ride with my feet and ankles being bound that much. To each hos own.
    Im going give your foot position advice a try. I move my feet around a lot on the pedals but i would say my feet rest in the neutral position.

  • @JoachimVesely
    @JoachimVesely Рік тому +1

    I’ve got the opposite experience. I ride in barefoot shoes and the fact that that keeps the feet free and flexible gives me a lot more control over the wheel - the feet can actually do their job.
    I tried riding in more rigid shoes and I could feel how limited my control of the wheel became.
    All that said, it might depend on what you wear normally. If you wear restrictive shoes and insoles normally, then the function of your feet will atrophy over time and they will rely on that support and feel weak in more flexible shoes.

    • @MADpack
      @MADpack  Рік тому

      I use normal and very flexible shoes during the day so I don’t get the last part that your feet will atrophy over time. Also riding in barefoot shoes if one day you have a bad accident you will regret your option

    • @JoachimVesely
      @JoachimVesely Рік тому +1

      @@MADpack In all the accidents I’ve had (EUC and scooters), it’s always been the elbows, shoulders and knees that were the worst off. Never had an issue with my barefoot shoes. Sure, I might have been lucky, it’s possible, but I’m not too worried about it based on experience.
      With skiing it’s different, because of the sideways force on the feet in sharp turns, during braking and how firmly the feet are connected to the skis. You need that firm connection for control, but with an EUC it’s not as necessary, you can slide your foot around on the pedal depending on what you’re trying to achieve, and control it with foot position and well as leaning forward/back. I started with body lean control, but have been experimenting a lot with foot pressure and position instead, based on U-Stride’s videos and I find it unlocks another level of riding for me.

I get what is your experience and how you ride (I was like you) but since I really get the skill I will never comeback to how you do and yes I’m my opinion you’ve been lucky because like I said worst accidents are injuries on shoulders and ankles and obviously head

    • @JoachimVesely
      @JoachimVesely Рік тому +1

      @@MADpack Yeah, I’ve been definitely lucky. In all my accidents, I never hit my head. Not even a tiny scratch on my helmet. I’ll still always wear one, though.
      I’ll definitely play around with power pads once I have a faster wheel, but that still gives you some flexibility to move your leg, depending on how you set it up. I also have a full face helmet ready for when I go faster than 20mph on an EUC. I definitely prefer to play it safe.
      But the flexibility and control in my feet, I feel that manoeuvrability adds to my safety on the wheel, so I think I’m unlikely to change that!

    But I had this problem happening on my car, yes that’s right, I owned a Suzuki Samurai and I bought some cheap non-quality tires, I must tell you the moment I hit 55mph that wobble was insane, my steering wheel was all over the place, I didn’t know then what this is so I went to the car shop to fix it, they inspected the car and I exchanged some parts but the wobble wouldn’t disappear no matter what I’ve done, until I changed the tires, now I have a second Suzuki Samurai, I bought it with descent tires but at 55mph I felt slight wobble, no so much than with the first Samurai but it was there, NOW, I bought a set of 4 brand new YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR A/T, man, the Smurai rides smooth like a charm.
    I think the tire must be correctly weighed (centred) like car tires are when mounted.

      It is not so uncommon on an off road car, it shows up on Samurai’s and Wrangler’s but I didn’t know it is because of the tires.
      Better question would be how to weight (center) an EUC tire.
      Maybe in a motorcycle shop.

    Which are the correct version of boots to order? The link in video description takes us to Forma Adventure Low Boots for some reason.. however you describe them as Terra Evo Low Shoes which are a different model.. it's confusing.. thanks for clarifying..
    It seems the newer and more rigid Evo Terra provides better ankle protection than the older Adventure Low. It seems the evo terra are stiffer and provide more protection, more immediately responsive acceleration and braking etc and less foot fatigue and the adventure are more flexible but protect the ankles less and probably create more foot fatigue.. it seems from your entire video it's better to get the evo terra version.. it's just the link in your description takes us to the older more flexible Adventure Low version for some reason which goes against all your points about it being more favorable to have a new rigid boot..Thank you for your reply asap as I ordered the Forma Adventure Low Boots from your link but think I'll have to immediately return and get the Evo Terra from somewhere else. Is there a reason not to get the taller regular Evo Terra (non 'Low' version)? Just too bulky/ cumbersome or could they be even better for euc? Thank you for clarifying

    • @MADpack
      @MADpack  8 місяців тому

      I have the new version like you said and a friend of mine have the old one… both work well and give great protection but mine they feel more premium than his boots but mines have less comfort because they are harder now is a question of preference I still use them since this video beside one of the sides the Velcro is breaking up boots are like when I purchase them

    • @justinspirational
      @justinspirational 8 місяців тому +1

      @MADpack you find the newer more rigid Evo Terra *less* comfortable? I thought you were saying the rigidity takes the pressure off the feet compared to more flexible boots like the older Adventure Low Boots and therefore less fatiguing? How are the evo terra you have less comfortable? I do already have a pair of very rigid motocross taller Thor boots but find them a bit cumbersome and notice that sometimes I get pain in one of my ankles accelerating with them (I guess from leaning forward and the rigidity puts pressure on my ankle).. have you ever had that with your Evo Terras? I don't want that again but also want max ankle protection to minimize the chances of breaking my ankle (especially as I ride offroad and single track a lot as much as street).. you find he rigidity gives less fine control or more immediate acceleration and braking response? you don't think the taller (non "Low") versions of either the Adventure or Evo Terra would give even better control over the Low versions or they would be too much for eucs? Thank you for your feedback.. already spent a lot on Dainese Torque 3 out boots and the Thor boots but looking for something truly most optimal for specifically riding eucs most effectively both offroad and on street and better than the 2 pairs of boots I already have

      Hi there I love my boots and will not swap for the old ones because they feel cheaper per example the liking mechanism Is in plastic and mines are in metal.. an also prefer the look of them new e o terra low… and no you don’t want taller boots… harder boots give you more control when I talk about harder is more the sole of the old gen is softer so you can feel a bit more comfort on the bottom of your foot but the new gen you will fill also more locked and connected to the wheel … less movements in the beginning is weirded but when you get used to it you can take much more out of your wheel in my opinion

    Bro I love your videos but I'ma have to respectfully disagree on your riding stance. There is a reason why literally everyone squats with their heels tucked in and toes pointing outwards. That is because it is what gives your feet and your knees the most stability. You shouldn't be riding with your toes pointing in and heels pointing out. That's just a really bad take.

    • @MADpack
      @MADpack  Рік тому +4

      Hi there let me try to explain a bit more maybe I will start to make sense for you.. when you walk you should never walk with foot pointing out otherwise you put more stress on your planta fasciitis putting your heel out will make you have more flexibility on the middle section of your foot allowing after when asking for impulse be able to lock it and apply force… in this case putting the heel out will make the middle section of your foot more loose and increasing the amount of surface of your foot in contact with pedals and when you need to accelerate and push in them you having more surface will allow you to lock and request more force from them is basic movement of or foot… if you do what you say you put stress on the planta fasciitis and you reduce the surface touching the pedal… if you want I try to find a video that explain this :)

    Stance
    Pigeon toe
    Vs
    Straight foot
    Vs
    Duck feet
    Just saying you can't squat and shift body weight in two of these stances
    Try squat with your feet in these 3 different positions and observe young kids picking up things on the ground how there feet are and body position.
    Watch some videos of skilled riders and see how they stand too.
