안녕하세요? That's a good question!^^ In a compound word made up of two words, when the preceding word ends with a vowel, ‘ㅅ’ is inserted. Even in this case, other conditions must be satisfied. 1) when the first sound of the latter word sounds tensed. ex) 뒤+집=뒷집[뒤찝](the house right back of one's own) 2) when the 'ㄴ' sound is added to the end of former word ex) 나무+잎=나뭇잎[나문닙](leaves of a tree) This ‘사이시옷’(Saishiot) rule is complicated and also there are many exceptions. So it will be convenient to memorize some frequently used words.

안녕하세요? That's a good question!^^
In a compound word made up of two words, when the preceding word ends with a vowel, ‘ㅅ’ is inserted. Even in this case, other conditions must be satisfied.
1) when the first sound of the latter word sounds tensed.
ex) 뒤+집=뒷집[뒤찝](the house right back of one's own)
2) when the 'ㄴ' sound is added to the end of former word
ex) 나무+잎=나뭇잎[나문닙](leaves of a tree)
This ‘사이시옷’(Saishiot) rule is complicated and also there are many exceptions. So it will be convenient to memorize some frequently used words.
Thank you for the explanation !!
