I have this game & this is the level select feature where if you play long enough, you'll be able to select the loop & stage. Its in the option menu. This video puts the stages together when you see the "now loading" screen. I must say this is a awesome video! I never passed loop 5 on very hard because my eyes & fingers became tired!! Good work! I watch this everyday before bed! Stage 5 Meteor my favorite!
Outstanding! and it must have taken you a long time as (and I can surely concur...) it does not get any more frantic. The memory stamina would melt most wills and the persistence of time prevails as you most eloquently have illustrated. Congratulations and well done.
@@ostravia To become expert, you need thousands and thousands of hours of deliberate practice, and this game is no exception, in fact, it's the most required thing!!!
V was no doubt one of the best Amount Gradius, Mechanically its near perfect with the introduction of directional option. Graphic and music score is amount the top of PS2 gen. My only complain is the art direction, which consist endless mech factory with exception of 2 stages. While this is still a nicely done work in its own right, Gradius never founded on a mech heavy art style, unlike Radien and many others. Gradius was best know for its mythical world, exotic landscape, and diverse style of enemy. You went through many of these to sedge on the mech fortress build around a giant brain. Diversity in environment and enemy type gives you a feel of fantastic adventure, not a military mission style of progression. And I would hope they bring back the moai at least, the most famous land mark in Gradius.
I know this is a 5-year old comment but I absolutely agree. I just wish there would be at least two more unique stages (Moai and Fire) with unique bosses to differentiate from the mechanical stages and bosses. Aside from the Moais, I also miss the fire dragons that the previous games like to throw at you.
I love this game, the very best part of this game is the boss fights, and it feels so nice to watch boss fights on high loop (difficulty) in this game. So thanks for uploading this. 😎
Wow, now this really seems like the enemy is throwing everything at you it can possibly come up with, every turret is firing gapless lines of bullets until the screen is full of it, and you still survived and defeated the entire fleet... Guess those bacterians were pretty pissed at you!
When I first saw Dodonpachi Daioujou when my brother plays it, it was hard enough - he used 5 continues to finish the 5 stages... and I was stunned, how can you avoid 100s of bullets at a time???? Then come this. This is waaaay harder!!!
Show them the true King of hard space shooters, Gradius III arcade. This one, all you have to remember is one thing, your hitbox is one pixel wide, Gradius III arcade, the entire ship IS the hitbox.
Normally yes, but in this video I played each stages individually using the stage select. For a better viewing, I put them together to feel like a complete walkthrough instead of makeing multiple videos.
Even more recently, people are smarming about this being "clearly cheated." It's not. Look at the cockpit. See that tiny strip of light, looks vaguely like a vertical stripe? That's the hitbox. It is one pixel. In art of the T-301, it's the mount where the cockpit connects to the spaceframe. They made that the hitbox in this, and it's a Treasure game, so graphically sometimes the models look like they should be getting hit but don't (Ikaruga, also by Treasure, comes to mind). This person is just really good, simple. Besides, if you think this is impossibly hard (it *is* hard, don't get me wrong), you haven't seen some of the others in this genre. Give Crimzon Clover a peek and then tell me that THIS looks impossible.
Where is the actual hit box on the Viper I have seen multiple hits all across it in this video I know it is small but id like to know the location as this looks to me like invincibility is on all.
Impossible for a human being, I don't think it would even be a machine, I don't know kkkkk. To this day I still have the media game here at home, Gradius forever!
Someone out there needs to develop a DeepMind AI to play this game and train itself to perfection. Oh, this game and also the hardest shooter of the PC Engine (Deep Blue).
Since I'm playing each levels using the Stage Select option, no playback was recorded during level 2. When there is no recording, the game usually plays a pre-recorded sequence of the ship moving in the level, but since I'm playing on LOOP 10, Treasure probably didn't pre-record anything at higher loops.
I plan on doing a review of Gradius V in a few months and if it's okay with you, I might use some footage from this video in it. If it's not, I won't use it. -- AT
Thanks, it'll be a few months, though. Also,m was there a strategic advantage to not destroying the enemy ships at 56:31 (when the Big Cores start appearing up until the High Speed Stage starts) or is that just showing off? lol -- AT
I love it when people literally say your cheating even tho your not some don’t get the memo The Vic Viper T301 has the most tiniest hitbox out of all the VV models you literally had so many NDE’s I can’t even count anymore But some people are idiots to think you cheated because they probably never played a shmup before in their lifetime. Luckily treasure compensated the insane difficulty of the game by letting you phase through shots like that. the hit box for the T301 is like what two pixels large which is just insane.
Scaraboy13 V3 - Yes, you’re right. All best shmup do this to make the games more accessible which is good design. It would suck to die because of the very tip of the nose of the ship hit something. There is a good documentary about shmup on youtube that explain their evolution. The smaller hitbox lead to the creation of Danmakus. Take a look if you find it, its great.
@@M4gnumPY Cave: My bullet hell games also compensate for microscopic hit boxes, but no slowdowns even at critical situations! Treasure: *done the same thing with Ikaruga, and Gradius V* Cave: O.o
I used the Dual Shock 2 and mostly play with the DPAD but I wish I had a good arcade stick for precision. For this walkthrough, I had to do a lot of retries for several months using STAGE SELECT option. The most difficult stages being the Asteroid Field (including the boss) in Stage 5 and Stage 7 (Speed and Impregnable Fortress) because it's a very long stage which include a tough boss halfway through. But, it wasn't too much of a chore because Gradius V is a great SHMUP I really enjoy.
Didn't actually know that this had multiple loops... Loved the game, but the later levels were tough enough for me on the first loop! And now i want to get the PS2 out again...

I should realize the art style may be compromised by the PS2 performance limitation, organic 3D model had not very compelling result on old consoles. With more processing power available for modern hardware, and advancement in optimized rendering algorithm. I can expect the developer to take back that vibrant approach in future installments.
