With those axles in a rig like that, it seems like a waste NOT to add rear steer!! However… I’d suggest you finish it, wheel it, and add that later while you’re tweaking other things. 👍🏼
I agree 100%
Finishing the project is #1 priority always
"Don't get it right, just get it running", David Freiburger
@@TarasMagunI’ve had to keep telling myself that over the years lol
Rear steer and ducting once it is running. There are things that will have to change once trail tested anyways.
that ride deserves rear steer, how much fun will that be!
I think it would be rad!
YES on the rear steer and air scoop. Once you have them you will be happy with the results and therefore the decision!! This is looking so cool!!!
What he said! I wanna see them both
100 percent!!
Hey Nate! Former avionics manufacturing tech here. In regards to weatherproofing your wiring, you can find shrink tubing that's lined with an adhesive that melts at high temperature. As you shrink the tubing, the adhesive will also melt, forming a seal. You can also get the adhesive separately in the form called Hot Melt Tape. You can wrap it inside non-adhesive shrink tubing, or weave the tape between wires/cables to fill in any gaps to prevent FOD (foreign objects/debris)/water ingress as well. The adhesive is also nice for keeping nylon braid/wire loom in place. As far as rear-steer goes, yes! I would love to see how you incorporate rear-steer into a rig
Self-fusing silicon tape is another handy product. I’d also be cautious of soldering electrical connections, it may be fine here but it can embrittle the conductor or have metallurgical issues with connectors not meat to be soldered (haven’t checked this one myself). A previous boss informed me the did not allow solder connections in military aircraft due to the affects of vibration on the solder. When crimping fine stranded wires such as welding cable you will need specialty fine stranded rated connectors. This was a fire problem in the early days of solar. Again this may not apply here but thought I’d pass it on.
@@paulhimle Whenever my company needed to incorporate solder joints between wires, we would cover the joint with adhesive-lined shrink tubing to add rigidity and strain relief. Depending on the joint, we would include a service loop or fold-over to allow for extra length to allow for additional strain relief, then cover that in more shrink tubing. If we needed to solder onto connectors or devices, we would apply potting compound. For automotive applications, it doesn't matter that much, but sometimes us gear heads like to over-engineer sometimes :D
Definitely a yes on the rear steering.
I vote yes to rear steer. But sounds like it’s something you could easily add later with just a little planning for now.
Love the build!
I’d love to see the ducting & rear steer, but I want to see it on trail more. 😂
Lol me too
Bro, you’re killing it! Your skills are getting better and better! Definitely one of my favorite channels on UA-cam!
Thank you! I'm honored 🙏
Definitely do rear steer before worrying about the bonnet. It'll actually make a big difference to the rigs performance over fresh air that it is already getting. Also, you can buy heat shrink that has glue in it. When it gets to a certain temperature the glue melts and seals the heat shrink. It works really well.
Rear steer: hell yes.
Hood scoop ducting: one day but not if it stops you from going on the trip
The answers to your questions at the end is Yes & Yes! Definitely wanna see the ductwork and the rear steer, your creativity is awesome!
Awesome thank you!
Rear steer for sure. Hood ductwork in the future. Can't wait to see the new Sami on the channel ripping up the trail.
Absolutely do ducting for the hood scoop. You have a scoop, use it. Rear steer would be awesome.
as a long time fan of your content. i love seeing your tig welding evolution. a few years ago you had no problem telling us that tig is not your thing. and today you're just tig welding up custom goose necks. nice work!
Wow those are some beefy cables!! No cutting corners on those!
Rear steer for sure! You’ll never be disappointed that you have rear steer!!!
Rear steer let’s go!!! That thing looks so hardcore, you may as well do rear steer cause why not. Especially if it’s straightforward
As a machinist I must say excellent work on that coolant piece… drills, abrasives, and patience can make many things! 👏🏻
Thank you! I wish I had a mill 😁 but I'm happy with how it turned out.
Love the camo wrap! I wrapped my entire Yukon Denali in that wrap too. Love seeing the samurai coming along! Getting some ideas on what I should do next on my own.
Rear steer and hood scoop mod is a must. I have sooo been enjoying this build.
The way you do video is literally an art form man. Keep it up.
Hood ducting - yes! And I have to tell you, I really appreciate your builds and this thing is amazing! Great content!
Thank you! Much appreciated!
Rear steer and scoop is a yes for me, go big or go home! You have done so much already, why not give it the whole package!!
As a Monster Truck pilot (and the inventor of of self- centering rear steering), i can tell you rear steer is the biggest add on for off road maneuvering you can can do. I'm north of you in Fall City but work in Issaquah (O'reilly's).
Monster truck pilot? Man... I want that on my resume 😁. Self centering would be a nice touch. I will see what I can get my hands on.
Yes for rear steer. Yes for anything you build out of any material, so keen to see this thing on some rocks
Great video. Glad you made it. Awesome help from Matt & killer feedback from Ian.
Love to see your spin on this classic zuk , I’ve owned 4 of these because of that Sammy ! Soo pumped you got it .
I feel soooo lucky to have this 🤘.
The video qualiity in this video is phenomenal. Whoever it is setting up the camera before each shot deserves some recognition. 👍🏻
Your attention to detail I truly admire.
Definitely want to see rear steer! Would also love to see how you duct the hood, but not if it prevents you from bringing it to KOH!
It's going to be a photo finish to make hammers! But we are working hard out here...
Consider this another vote in favor of ducting the hood and adding rear steer. I would love to see your approach to the project, since your quality control is so top tier! Keep up the phenomenal work!
Do the ducting in the hood. Do the rear steer. So many of the guys watching this are living vicariously through your builds that is it almost insulting to them to not go the extra mile. Spend the extra money, spend the extra time, blood, sweat, tears, so many sleepless nights and family sacrifices and most of us will still never have a ride as capable and solid as this one. Keep up the great work, you are an inspiration to us all!
Yes to both questions! But no rush. If this thing ever gets any of those features down the line, I'm all for it!
Go big or go home! Rear steer for sure! The hood vent would be good, but only if it works well with everything else. I know it is hard to build it and make it work amazing. Time line is big! We all want to see it at the hammers!!!
Rear steered my Sami buggy while linking it, and so glad i did... Time to do the buggy now..
Steering yes..Ducting yes.. loving it
Yes, I want to see you do ducting on the hood and the rear steer, but wait until after king of the hammers. That way, when you go King of the Hammers, you can have everything you need buttoned up. Thus, you don't have to worry about pushing yourself beyond your limits.
A rear steer video would be really cool to see!
I would get it running to get a good shakedown run which will reveal the goods and bads. Sometimes that works in favors.
This is an absolutely beautiful and incredible build… love how it’s coming along, rear steer would be cool but the ducting I think you need!! Keep up the incredible work!!👍
Easily one of the best fab channels on UA-cam. Rear steer and ductwork for sure. You're building this thing to Wheel Nate. Might as well make it the ultimate crawler/wheeler while you're motivated to do so!!
Wow, thanks! What a giant compliment
Do what you need to do to go to hammers. You'll be smiling and we would all love to see it in action there.
Yes on the scoop an a big HELL YES on the rear steer!
Yes and yes love the build nate, and thanks for the plethora of information. I've learned and applied so much.
Yes rear steer and yes ducting. Having grown up in PNW, I understand keeping rain water out your intake. If you could manage a swoop of sorts with a drain hole at the rear. Sure it would allow some air to escape but it would have draining potential also.
Hell yeah, do the rear steer and the ducting!
Thank you man for being so thorough!
Hi Matt as a campervan electrical installer I’d highly recommend investing in a hydraulic lug crimper for your battery leads, if you get crimps that are sealed at the end you only need to seal the small gap between the lug and wire insulation. This can be sealed with glue lined heatshrink which since finding is what I solely use now
I agree with the hood scoop, but there is also an option of a snorkel which would allow for you to solve potential rain/water issues. Also rear steer is always a good idea, just depends on personal preference. You could always install it later if you feel you want/need it.
Props brother good to see you stepping up your fabrication shop. Can’t wait to see you get some more tooling to help you fab those hard to fab pieces i.e. a lathe and maybe CNC table. Keep up the good work!
You and Austin Niemela do about the best garage shop work I’ve seen on UA-cam. Rear Steer for sure. Air scoop after its proven, will help gauge its effectiveness.
I really would have just bought a threaded temperture sensor.. But well done for pushing through and coming up with something in the shop. That is what this channel is all about..
I definitely want to see the scoop and the rear steer but I do feel like both of those things can wait a few weeks!
I've had good luck using hydrophobic filter socks on cone filters in rough conditions. May be worth looking for one
I've watched this build from the beginning, actually Ian sent me here to your channel in one of his videos when he talked about where this Samurai went. And I've became a huge fan of your channel ever since. I'll be traveling from Pennsylvania to KOH and would love to see this rig and meeting the owner would be pretty cool too! Hope to see you there!
Definitely want to see rear steer. The ducting would probably help some too. Maybe not huge but any lower ingested temps can't be bad. This thing is becoming so intricate... the detail, the effort, the QUALITY. So sick!
Leave the hood and steer the rear. Beautiful work man.
Get this thing running and driving! I want to see it in action!
Yes, let’s go rear steer!!! That would be dope!
Great job to the DMS crew on their first day. That is a challenging trail. You all got this!
Rear steer would be so sweet on that rig. I think adding ducting to the hood would be beneficial if you would make it come up and turn down so it’s not sucking in moisture.
I'd love to see a DIY rear steer. Happy 2024
Yeah definitely do the rear steer! And the hood scoop too!
MYT makes some nice compact fuse/relay boxes with weather seal.
Might be worth having a look at for future builds.
Super clean work Nate!!!
100% rear steer! That would take that thing to a whole different level!
The old aqualoo, can’t wait to see it finished
Love your Samurai build and fitting rear steer would be really handy on the trailers. Keep up the great work Nate.
rear steer and ducting yes !!
This build is deserving of rear steer, also I think ducting to hood would help engine compartment temps during the heat of the summer.
“220ish depending in the holidays” 😂😂😂😂 I feel this
Lol, the truth hurts 😁
get it to king of hammers then do rear steer, this rig is so cool
Would love to see the rear steer conversion, sweet cherry on top of a fabulous crawl cake.
Yes on both counts, out of all the rigs you have built, you deserve rear steer,😁 and of course why not open up the hood scoop, your craftsmanship is top shelf...do it !! 👍 💪
Love the air cleaner placement- inter cooler as well. Great work Nate!
Looking good man, making serious progress!
This gives me rock-crawling Project Binky vibes. Been following this build since the beginning, and I only just realized this.
Also, I do the same "ooh, boy" grunt as I get into cars lol
Last thing... please duct the hood scope. The world needs more functional hood scoops.
Rear steer and ducting please! Excited whenever you post a new video. Thanks Nate
Awesome to see you back at work with the samurai, it is looking amazing, can't wait for the next one!!
I use marine grade heat shrink tube on my wiring. It has a sealer inside of it.
I'm in the same area and fight the same moisture issues. Gotta keep the wiring connections dry.
Rear steer definitely 👍👍
Hood ducting whatever...🥴
Can't see a manager benefit...🤷♂️
I'm really looking forward to seeing this build on the trails...👍👍
Rear steer for sure on the Sami, just to add to the party ability 🤘
Definitely ducting. Add baffling in a way that diverts rain towards a drain so that the air comes in dry. Add a pre filter to the exit of the ducting to keep the filter cleaner. Just some sort of foam panel that you can blast out with air.
Rear steer #1, if there’s time do the ducting… great work Nate 👍
Add rear steer! I think with a rig like that it would be beneficial for sure! I think getting it going is more important then hood duct series
Yes for rear steer and yes for scoop duct!
Absolutely ducting and rear steer! Just in segments.
I would only do what’s absolutely necessary to get it to the hammers and enjoy it things like the ducts can be done later, the rear steer seams like a must for the hammers.
Gota do the rear steer. That would double the fun you will have!!!
Absolutely rear steer!!
I’d love to see you participate in Flex, Rocks & Rollovers 24 hours of Hell & Back next year. King of the Hammers is cool but the 24 hours would be a cool so cool to watch!
Dude! This makes me so sad I sold my Samurai! I love your content. Very motivating!
Use marine terminals on the end of your battery cables, they are designed for a mechanical crimp (no solder needed - can actually cause problems if it wicks up the wire!) and the outside end is fully sealed. Use an adhesive lined heatshrink and you have a clean, reiable weatherproof cable end.
The work you've done is so impressive! I really enjoy your build episodes! Thanks!
Definitely want to see you Rearsteer it!!!
I haven't finished the series yet, so maybe you've addressed these in other videos, but just a couple suggestions - 1.) With your battery on the axle, put a fuse right at the terminal - if anything on the trail catches a main battery cable and rips the insulation off you don't want a fire. 2.) I vote against the hood scoop intake - too much risk of ingesting a wave of water if you cross a creek or big puddle. 3.) as others have said, get it running and test it as-is before adding rear steer, but buy the parts :). Very cool build, I've been enjoying the series very much!
Yes rear steer would be amazing. Hood scoop is cool but I would only add it if you have cooling issues.
Rear steer, yes. Ducting, if it can help keep the filter dry. Then you should get Gail Banks to tune it. Great build.
Thank you Nate, whatever you do seems to evolve, my guess, you'll be doing both, lol. I throughly enjoy watching this! Thanks again 😊
I think the hood project and rear steer should be a later project. I want to see it running and driving and on the rocks!! But, yes it would be cool to see for sure!!!
