    Hey, absolutely love the video. Continue staying positive. Don’t let those negative comments pull you down. I know that they could probably be real painful to read, but just remember there’s a lot of people on here that really love you. I’m a professional therapist and a lot of times I wear T-shirts in fact, I’m heading into my office right now for a session. I’m wearing blue jeans, tennis shoes, and a plain gray T-shirt be yourself and as the band victims family says the “clothes makes a man what a charming young fool”

      Haha 😄 I love that. Honestly I used to wear tie dye and handmade clothing for the reason that I think some people feel more comfortable having the "upper hand" in appearance. I suppose it disarms people to get ready to learn or get to the point in informal situations. Thank you for your kind words and thoughtful response 🙏

    Most people, I included, don't understand the youtube algorithm, until you just explained it and what we can do to support your channel. I'm fed up with the AI, so much so, that I created another profile just so I can manage MY OWN feed and home screen vs.. the AI spam flooding only ONE content/channel. Toggling between accounts is much easier than trying to fix my "history" so my future viewing isn't ruined.

    Hi Alex! Once again you’ve covered several of my questions. Thank you so much! I have another one I’m hoping you can cover in a video. When you’re starting a tank for the first time, and you don’t have any other tanks to fall back on, what is a good way to stock it to build up the necessary beneficial bacteria and start various cycles. Some people say to use a filter from an established tank - not an option for me. Some people say to add bottle bacteria; what are the pluses and minuses of this? Some people say to start with very fast growing plants like hornwort and guppy grass, but what if you don’t want these plants in the future and want to have some Crypt and Anubias species. Some people say to put a few hardy fish in a heavily planted brand new tank with nutritious (sand-capped) substrate and let the fish waste be food for new bacteria,but will this harm the fish? Some people say to put snails into a brand new, heavily planted setup and let them cycle the tank. Some people say to cycle the tank with heavy planting, microfauna detritivores, shrimp, and botanicals like dead leaves, but will the leaves cause an ammonia spike that will kill the fauna? How many leaves can you start with in a new tank (mine is a 40 breeder)? Should you start your tank like a giant resurrection jar and add fish after the substrate has a good amount of leaves built up to protect microfauna? I know this question is actually lots of related questions and am hoping it’s enough to make a video that will be useful for beginners.

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  27 днів тому

      Okay I'll add it to my next video :)
      Bur quickly ill tell you ... most things work , just test the parameters and make sure ammonia tests as positive early on ( first 10 days)...then ideally nitrites will show up....then both will go to zero and nitrates will start to rise and it's time for fishies. A bit of Fish food, plants, some rugged danios or guppies etc or even a snail will all add bacteria. Any plants you buy wet at a store should act about the same as the bacteria in a bottle...a live colony starter. ... filter media is fastest, but as you said, we don't always have that

    Hey, I reuse a bunch of my plant trimmings, and excess amazon frogbit! I save the jungle val clippings, hydrilla cuttings, and extra floaters in a bag in the freezer. Then when I'm cooking veggies for snello, they get added, boiled, and mashed together with squash, green beans, bamboo shoots, dandelion leaves, and peas. Then I mix in crushed chalk, some fish flake fo flavor, some squirts of vitachem and set it all in dense gelatin. Chop into blocks and freeze, then bag it up.

    If people think they can wash the bacteria off their filters, don't consider why we use soap or methylated spirits against viruses and bacteria 😅
    Also, if I remember correct the scientist from Prime have said you had to wash your filter for an hour if you wanted to kill your filter completely.

    question... I have noticed that in my shrimp only tank that when I add veg tabs or bottom feeder food that the snails really congregate on these foods. What I find amazing is that the shrimp know the food is there, but once the snails ( bladder, trumpet, and apple snails) move on to the food, the shrimp go crazy around the snails and the food. Very large numbers of shrimp congregate. So do snails metabolize the food that the shrimp find useful? I am constantly seeing this behavior and the baby shrimp in particular are present. Thank you for all the research that you do. Erin

    • @AgxntOrange
      @AgxntOrange 27 днів тому +1

      I’ve been reading the same posts I think. What I can gather as a curious noobie is that it *does* detoxify ammonia, maybe only temporarily? But it definitely doesn’t remove it.
      Basically I wouldn’t ever substitute it for a water change but I have heard of people overdosing it prior to an emergency water change just to give them a bit more time to work with

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  27 днів тому

      Good topic. We don't know what sulphite salts are in it even technically...trade secrets. But a cap full treats like 150 gallons or something wild for dechlorinating.
      As I understand it, the company chemist and lead R&D dr. Spoke with me at AGA a few years back. And said it acts as a life raft for ammonia and chlorine ...it bonds to it, doesn't remove it... but over time as the bonds break chlorine evaporated out , as will ammonia. But in hard water with a high ph (8.5+) ammonia Is 100x as deadly as when it is in 6.5 ph water! So it locks it up for 24 to 72 hours depending on temp and other water variables...but if your ammonia is high, change the water and use some prime

I am now down to 4 of each over the past year. It didn’t start straight away and when I first noticed it I thought it looked a bit like mating behaviour. This one neon actively seeks out his own kind & attacks! @@Fishtory I don't have Plecos myself but even I enjoy sitting in on her presentations about them. I imagine it's satisfying for you to speak to her about the subject. I also enjoyed her presentation about fish food and ingredients from her perspective.

    My electric blue acaras just laid eggs I thought I still had a while because they're only about 2-3" long but nope now I have to figure out what to do
    They're in a 40 gallon tote with 2 angel fish, 4 other little acaras 7 plecos and 2 otocinclus
    Anybody want to donate a 40 gallon tank to me? Lol
