Nice video. Just subscribed. I have around 2500 hours in the Seahawk (USN variant), all of it operating off of FFGs, CGs and DD/Gs. Typical up the stern approach is what we did (except for Arleigh Burke's) at 60kts, 1.5 miles at 400ft, 1 mile @ 350 ft, 0.5 mi @ 200 ft, 0.25 mi @ 125 ft. when you're within 0.25 miles, you should only have about 15kts closure on the boat. The stabilator should program accordingly to keep the nose relatively level. Fast closure rate will make it harder to see the deck. For departures, we would pick up to about a 15 foot hover, slowly back up the glideslope, keeping the aircraft in a position to "dive for the deck" if we have an engine failure. Once the aircraft is clear of the deck, we would pedal turn (typically to the left so the pilot on the controls-usually in the right seat, has good visual on the boat) and once stable, pull power in and transition forward. Ship OPS in the day were always fun. At night, not so much. In my opinion, the mod is really well done. With the right tweeks, you can get a pretty good feel for the actual aircraft.
I just started practicing boat landings on this mod today, and this video comes out now. Quite timely. Love your content, earlier on fixed wing formations to setting up the eye tracker and now this. Really impressive.
The older models, HS that has the tail wheel further in, that you are referring to are no longer flown by the fleet. The HSC model that you are flying in the video is more accurate to todays Navy helo's. There's only one crew chief in the helo at one time. Additionally there's either a rescue swimmer position, in the scenario you are flying, or two door gunners along with the crew chief. Flight mission depending. Left flying seat is for the HAC, right seat if the co-pilot. After you take off from the small boys drift back 10 or so feet before you slide left or right. Good flying.
Pilot seats are reversed sorry bout that. Right is HAC. I've downloaded the mod for openbeta and it's not working. Do I need a purchased helo plaform for the mod to work?
I just stumbled onto this comment. I don’t know if you’re aware, but the mod developer came up with an MH-60R sub-mod for the UH-60L that has scripts to make for some fairly realistic ASW gameplay.
@@AIRWARFAREGROUP definitely flaws. but I like to look at the effort that has gone in. UH60 mod could be as good as the A4E mod one day. I am only a newbie at DCS still learning my way around the sim, after not flying anything (RC or flight sims) since about 2000. Really love flying the F14, A4E, P51 and the FC3 planes

Coolest video ever! (I mean, I'm biased towards landing on ships 😁). But yeah, cool, entertaining and educational video. How do you fine control the helo when close to the ships? Do you turn off the force trim or you fight against the system? I find it much easier to control fighting the system.
Honestly, I have fine tuned the Collective, but the Cyclic is pretty much gentile touch all the way. Helicopters aren't man-handled like fighter jets for sure! ua-cam.com/video/R2TkAyIJpL4/v-deo.html

Love this video and your precision. @@AIRWARFAREGROUP Yes, a working RAST would be fun to see. Though IRL, we rarely used the cable other than just to practice. Much easier and faster to just extend the probe and manually land with it in the trap.
It’s been a while but I would have to try it again to remember how it worked. With the module you have to use a PTT communication input in settings and you have to tune radio to the ship’s frequency.
