    So what does that reading (#) mean? You're leaving out the important part!

      Hi Tommy,
      The TDS reading is the collective amount of dissolved salts/ minerals in a water source. The figure provides an insight to the overall health of the water source.
      To understand in greater detail, defined tests for total hardness ,alkalinity, Chloride are recommended.

    What does ppm mean??? I thought we need tds. Are they the same thing are do you have to convert ppm to figure out your tds.

    • @pruthvit796
      @pruthvit796 6 місяців тому

      TDS is total dissolved solids. It is calculated in ppm, it's the unit. Parts per million. Tds is measured in ppm. So when you say 50ppm, it actually means your tds is 50. That's it.

    What does the NUMBER Mean as far as qualityof my water

    • @BomboraSupplies
      @BomboraSupplies  2 роки тому

      Hi Toni,
      Thank you for your message :)
      Total Dissolved solids (TDS) is the term used to describe the inorganic salts and small amounts of organic matter present in solution within a water source. The key elements to focus on , but not limited to are usually Magnesium, calcium, Chloride and sodium. A high TDS 150 ppm or more, serves as an indicator that further testing will be required.
      Hope this helps!

      @@BomboraSupplies I have the same question, my tap water came up 340ppm but that doesn’t mean anything to me

      @@Serel25 TDS level less than 300 mg/liter is considered as excellent, between 300 and 600 mg/liter is good, 600-900 is fair, 900 -- 1200 is poor and TDS level more than 1200 mg/liter is unacceptable for drinking. Depending on who you ask, some say more than 1000 mg/liter is not acceptable. If you want specifics as to exactly what's in your water, you'll need to contact a water testing lab to test your water. This meter cannot give specifics. Also they may be able to recommend what to do to get your water quality better, if you so desire.
      It could be you'll need a reverse osmosis water softener or may be as simple as adding a water filter to your water line. A reverse osmosis softener works the best for removing dissolved solids from your water, but also is pretty expensive.

      Thanks for your comment Chad,
      The TDS results pre and post your filtration set up, will depend heavily on the type of filter and the media contained within. For example TDS will not be significantly reduced by carbon based filtration. Any level of dissolved calcium, magnesium, sodium and the like will simply pass through the filter and present similar figures.

    I purchased this believing that it measured salt water content in my fish aquarium? The instructions show nothing for salt content, ph, titrates etc? help

    • @BomboraSupplies
      @BomboraSupplies  Рік тому

      Hi David,
      Thank you for your message,
      A TDS meter does not measure contaminants as individual ions, to test for specific ions you will need to source a testing device specific to your requirements.
      Dissolved ionized solids, such as salts and minerals, increase the conductivity of a solution, a TDS meter measures the conductivity of the solution and estimates the TDS from that reading. The TDS-3 is designed to provides quick and easy method of identifying the level of Total Dissolved Solids in a water solution.
      Your water’s TDS figure will provide a guide as to whether or not there is a potential for high salt and mineral content. If your TDS reading is less than 50 ppm (considered low) this means that from one million particles, there are 50 dissolved ions. The rest of the 999 950, are water molecules. A low figure such as this leaves very little room for much of that figure to be Sodium based, when we know that Calcium, Magnesium, potassium etc will also be present. If the figure is higher than 200 (considered high) the potential for Sodium to be at a higher value increases significantly.
      Hope this helps :)

    My tedious meter seems to be jumping from 70 PPM to 140 when I dip into water but it used to work fine before stayed at one spot. I wasn't given the calibration solution either. What to do?

    How to calculate its value

    Are there any inexpensive ones that have temp compensation? Without temp compensation they are pretty bad going all over the place in readings.

    • @BomboraSupplies
      @BomboraSupplies  2 роки тому +1

      Hi General Awareness,
      The accuracy of a TDS meter can be impacted by the temperature of the water being tested.
      Prominent brands such as Hach and Hanna have units with temperature compensation for approximately $100. We have tested units such as the TDS-3 and found that if temps are between 12 and 25 degrees C, the fluctuation is limited to less than 8 ppm either side.
      Hope this helps :)
